Wait you work with all the major agencies int he area and haven’t heard of any reports or investigations?? A 2 second Google search will give you plenty. I have a friend that worked in one of the local high schools and also dealt with and heard horrific stuff, so quite surprising you haven’t? This is the most sensible post on this thread. Good on you for speaking up. Over the last few months we’ve had Roma women begging in our town. They get dropped off in the morning by a guy in a Mercedes and are dotted around the town outside Our local Tesco and Greggs etc, they are then picked up later on and driven back to Govanhill. It’s clear exploitation of these women, yet people are willing to turn a blind eye. People have reported them to the police however have been told there is nothing they can do as begging is not illegal, but clearly there is something darker going on that isn’t being looked at. They seem to have moved from the City Centre since lockdown due to it being quiet. There are definitely deep issues going on within some of this community, so no matter what people think of the videos, something needs done. by emzk03 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 10:45am)

I never said they did, in fact I’ve been absolutely disgusted at some of the things posted about these women on social media. So I’m not actually sure what your reply to my point is about?? I’m a person that is concerned about what is happening to these people. I’m replying to the person above who is stating he has seen first hand that there is things going on in Govanhill. I get what your saying but I’m not “the people of Barrhead”, I’m one person replying to what I think is the most sensible post on this whole thread. Take away the Alex videos, and I truly believe there is major issues in the Govanhill area. These poor women are clearly getting exploited and I also have a friend who worked in the school down that way that has dealt with major issues in some of the children, obviously she was unable to disclose what this was though. Everyone also needs to watch the BBC documentary that was done on these issues. Whether you like Alex or not or agree with the videos, there is something underneath what he is saying, and that’s what people need to get to the bottom of. Many people calling him an outright liar, but I truly believe there is some truth in what he says. He’s not saying it correctly or going about it the correct way though. I’ve never said Alex should be the face of this. I don’t think people are reading my posts right, I’m only concerned for the people of Govanhill who may be getting exploited. Nooo, I’ve never once said I think he should be immune to the same? Does anyone EVER read things properly in this thread. There are ladies on this thread who have mentioned his ex-partners name, bringing her into this (and also telling lies about her). I’m only concerned about that part. The ladies have no right to mention his ex’s name or talk about what the children think. They are nothing to do with it. I’m shocked that people think this is ok. I honestly couldn’t care less if people want to say stuff about Alex personally. From this thread it’s obvious that people have a lot against him. Darren McGarvey (also known as the rapper Loki). He does a lot of great work around political issues, poverty, addiction and has a background of addiction himself. He has a few books out and has done a couple of documentaries, really interesting guy. As mentioned above, I’d definitely look further afield than just around the west end area (if that’s the only place you’ve been looking). This is the most sought after and more expensive area. Look a good few miles out (in any direction) and you may have more luck. Most areas have good transport links into the city so your partner wouldn’t struggle to get into uni. I’ve found them MUCH MUCH better since they’ve rebranded from Hermes but it could just be it’s a new driver in my area.
