  • Avoid G1 by Queen Street. Fuckers. by granitedon (Tue 30th Jul 2019 2:57pm)
  • Had one at Prestwick Airport last week - got an appointment online within an hour, drive through process fine (it's also nowhere near as unpleasant as made out) and then got a result via text within 24h-30h. by granitedon (Mon 14th Sep 2020 3:33pm)
  • Cheers. They're mangled flatpack boxes from massive wardrobes so need to be recycled rather than reused. by granitedon (Fri 30th Oct 2020 11:28am)

  • Magic, this is really helpful. Thanks by granitedon (Tue 5th Jan 2021 3:36pm)
  • I'm really sorry this is happening to you but from the comments seems like you're taking a really reasonable approach to what is a shitty situation, so well done. You could always write to your MSP or MP about it and push the police to do more, quite often a letter to the chief constable sorts things out. I'd set out basically everything from the above and that you don't feel you're getting anywhere. Especially reiterate the police's duty of care too. Hope it's resolved soon and take care. by granitedon (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 7:54pm)

  • *"Figures from the neutral Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) show that between 2013-14 and 2018-19, the Scottish Government’s revenue budget was cut by 2.8 per cent by Westminster.* *But the* *Scottish Government* *were even more brutal in their cuts to councils – hammering them with a 7.5 per cent reduction in funding over the same period." (*[*Daily Record*](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/snp-more-brutal-tories-turbo-17372365)*)* It's a total disgrace the way the Scottish Government treats councils - especially Glasgow and others with extreme and rising deprivation issues. That plus more and more of councils' budgets are ringfenced funding, so they're getting less money and less choice of what to spend it on. Makes you wonder why Glasgow City Council's leadership is so afraid of asking their party colleagues in Edinburgh for more money. by granitedon (Wed 24th Feb 2021 11:44am)

  • A lot of good stuff on here. Would also recommend the Headspace app, especially its SOS sleep stuff, works a dream. Also, your work might have a decent employee support programme with access to some light touch therapy, always worth seeing what is available. by granitedon (Mon 20th Dec 2021 11:41am)
  • Imagine being elected as leader of an "anti austerity" administration, in charge of the council with your party leader and first minister a city MSP, leading the richest devolved government in history... and entering an election threatening to scrap services for some of the most vulnerable. FFS pick up the phone and get a decent settlement for Glasgow or what's the point in being council leader. by granitedon (Wed 26th Jan 2022 8:46am)
  • Council tax is a very small portion of council funding. After five years, you wonder why Susan Aitken hasn't bothered to just sort out fairer funding from her party leader (who leads the richest devolved government in history). by granitedon (Wed 26th Jan 2022 1:47pm)
  • Twitter DM Virgin - see if you can bump the customer service queue and explain it’s affecting six people for work etc. In the meantime see if they can compensate through hotspots or money off your bill etc. by granitedon (Wed 26th Jan 2022 8:30pm)

  • Welcome to the reality of local government in Scotland which has been absolutely cut to the bone. You used to be able to walk in to the chambers via the John St entrance to deal with ctax. Might still be possible and they just don’t advertise it. by granitedon (Thu 15th Jun 2023 8:39am)

  • In a close I used to live in there was a non serious fire and the fire brigade didn’t leave until everyone had removed bikes from the close. If you’re concerned, and you should be, phone your local fire station. by granitedon (Thu 29th Jun 2023 8:19am)

  • Arnold Clark, Evans Halshaw and the like are all fucking cowboys. Go somewhere smaller, via Autotrader, where they’re offering a guarantee (normally 30 days full, year extended). Then find a decent local, independent garage (community Facebook groups will have some they all rave about) where you can ask them to give it a once over after you’ve bought it within h the 30 days. Most will do it for free but you could offer money for their labour. Safest way to do it and you’ll not get ripped off. Oh, and pay a min of £100 with a credit card which will guarantee your whole transaction. by granitedon (Sat 29th Jul 2023 7:28pm)
  • Not sure it’s consistently as poor. Friends in Aberdeen couldn’t believe I can’t recycle glass in a tenement for instance, their waste collection seems positively 2023 compared to ours which is basically landfill plus a wee bit of recycling if you’re lucky. by granitedon (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 9:01am)

  • It’s just them - often very lonely - staying in touch with loved ones in other countries and they speak when they’ve not got a fare in the car. A lot of private hire drivers in Glasgow are people who have had a successful asylum claim in the UK but can’t afford or don’t have an entitlement to have family here, they can end up going years without seeing someone. by granitedon (Tue 8th Aug 2023 12:40pm)
  • Belfast is a fucking tremendous city break. Lovely place to spend time, convenient travel, amazing boozers, a lot of interesting things to do/see. Also, flights and hotels are cheap and all in the city centre. It’s been my favourite weekend away in the UK recently. by granitedon (Wed 9th Aug 2023 5:41pm)
  • Sounds like a shite workplace, I’m sorry. If there’s a way to raise this with HR, even informally, I’d encourage you to do it if you feel comfortable. You won’t be the only one to know how unacceptable this is. by granitedon (Tue 15th Aug 2023 9:22pm)
  • Grim! I’d say to think about changing job but can see from your post history that’s in motion by granitedon (Tue 15th Aug 2023 9:29pm)
  • Don’t know why this has been downvoted so much. There is a lot of racism in Scotland; there are a lot of people who never interact with people other than their own race or with the same skin tone. There is low integration and real inequality. Eg: the proportion of all non white people in Scotland who live in crowded accommodation in one or two postcode sectors in Glasgow’s southside. by granitedon (Tue 15th Aug 2023 9:34pm)

  • Many of them are victims of trafficking and many more get paid absolute shit for doing a miserable job, bringing people who have more money than them food on a bike in a cold city who then complain it’s cold when it arrives. Unfortunately, they don’t have the money to buy proper kit and are just scraping by. by granitedon (Tue 7th Nov 2023 12:02am)
