  • If the flat has internal painted window ledges sometimes you will see child bite marks on them. This is only in old properties but that indicates lead based paint. Apparently lead is sweet tasting so kids back in the day would bite and sook them. by hey_barry (Sat 1st Jun 2019 10:59am)

  • I did it a few years ago camping and there are plenty of camping spots. My stops were if I remember correctly : Drymen ( I camped a good bit after Drymen in a forest) Rowchoish bothy ( off the path to the left out of sight) or walk on to Doune byre which is a good few miles further on. Inverarnan ( bogs and showers) Tyndrum ( this has a campsite and a garage to get supplies) Kingshouse( free camping at the back ) Kinlochleven ( I stopped for juice and camped on the hill leaving the town) Finish I have done it a couple of times and mostly used the same stops. Take midge net and tick remover tool. by hey_barry (Fri 17th Jul 2020 7:48am)

  • Charles Tennent was an industrious chemist who founded the Glasgow water works as well as discovering bleaching powder. I assume he is slumped because he worked so hard in life that this was his actual resting place. I once heard that this statue was commissioned by his staff in spite, don’t think that’s true but you never know as history likes to gloss things over. The sculptor has loads of stuff around Glasgow as he was considered the best portrait sculptor in Scotland during this time. I’ve always liked that statute . by hey_barry (Tue 22nd Dec 2020 12:46pm)

  • Not really between the flats. You have lathe and plaster walls and mice can kick about behind the lathe. You will get them everywhere. If you live in Govanhill you get bedbugs or in Pollockshields you get roaches. The only reason I know this is I've worked in hundreds of tenements. You can seal the gaps of the floorboards or get mouse molding for the skirting but you won't ever stop them. Hope this helps by hey_barry (Fri 29th Jul 2022 8:15am)
  • The small lane called the old wynd on Argyle Street has to be a contender for most potent smell of pish. I actually can't believe people can use that as a short cut. by hey_barry (Wed 7th Sep 2022 12:12am)
  • It's closer to central station than that. Next lane down by hey_barry (Wed 7th Sep 2022 1:56pm)

  • There could be an extra parking charge if you drive an SUV in the city centre. Or stop making bad decisions in the case of selling land to developers and then renting it off them like Barowland park. Or maybe if they lowered the rent on vacant shops they could get some rent instead of it laying empty for 10 years like 13- 15 king street and receiving no rent. I have no idea but I'm guessing someone should. by hey_barry (Thu 13th Jul 2023 9:55pm)

  • I always liked the food in there when I went. Maybe 20 years ago right enough. Once went down stairs to go to the toilet and stuck my head in the wrong door and it was a room full of Chinese fellas having the time of their lives. One guy on another guy's shoulders dancing away while smoking fags and taps aff! Couldn't hear a thing in the restaurant. by hey_barry (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 2:02pm)
