  • I got s*it for this in the wetherspoons in Largs where my parents live, I went out fof a beer with my dad and as you do, found a spot in the bar and made my way in to get served (i never even noticed there was a que) next thing I get a tap on the shoulder from some old git and got told 'excuse me there is a que!' Noe this one is always full of tourists as locals never que (i had never seen a que in there in all the years I have been drinking in it) so I politley told him to piss off and learn the pub etiquete does not involve orderly queing at the bar as I ordered my drinks. Staff serving me even smirked as I did! by modge1981 (Wed 24th Jul 2019 11:41am)

  • I live just outside Glasgow but travel down south most weeks for work. I very quickly realised it was cheaper for me to park my car at an airport park and ride through the week and have my car available to drive home when I get back on a Thursday evening than it was to get the Airport bus and then train home, also saved the wife having to drop me off on the way down. So much for making public transport a cheaper alternative to using your own car. by modge1981 (Tue 11th Feb 2020 7:12am)

  • Whilst I dont agree with it I have always paid mine. Although when I bought my place in Glasgow about 15 years ago and I bought my TV licence (back when they still sent you a paper one) they kept sending me angry letters saying I dosnt have one. So I checked the expiry and made sure my direct debit was still going out, all fine so I left it. Letters kept coming getting progressivley angrier so I decided to phone them, the conversation went along these lines. Me: Why am I getting these letters I have a license and am paying my DD as usual Tv goon: let me check sir.... oh yes it says here you moved to paisley Me: I assure you I have not moved to paisley, I am still in (Glasgow address) TV goon: are you sure??? Me: Oh yeah my mistake, in my confusion I forgot I moved!! Of course Im F***ing sure! by modge1981 (Fri 27th Mar 2020 4:13pm)
  • Cant speak for the GSA specifically but I have been parking my bike in Glasgow for years and usually just tuck it out of the way or use a bicycle rack and have never had a ticket. Generally as long as its not in anyones way you are usually ok. by modge1981 (Sat 28th Mar 2020 8:24am)
  • I think its because the government guidelines are not that clear cut on exactly what constitutes exercise that the police probably just throwing their weight around a bit here. I think it is perfectly reasonable to class skateboarding as exercising and as long as you were keeping to yourself and not damaging anything I think they would struggle to get any kind of fine or charge to stick. I would personally keep doing it, maybe with a go pro or similar camera if you have it and record any further interactions, if they knew they were going to get called out on any of this or put online I think their attitude would change. by modge1981 (Mon 30th Mar 2020 2:33pm)
  • I totally agree they dont have an easy job just now, especially with so many people blatantly disregarding the isolation/social distancing. Im not meaning do it to try and aggrivate them or go.out of your way to provoke a reaction, i just mean if they know they dont have a leg to stand on in asking you to leave and know you are recording its probably going to make them think twice. In any case I hope you manage to get out and enjoy it! by modge1981 (Mon 30th Mar 2020 3:36pm)

  • The guy I use in Kirkintilloch does a mobile service or can collect your bike and return it and covers the Glasgow area, although not sure if he is still working with the lockdown, worth giving him a bell to see. Its Mobile Motorcycle Services, Kirkintilloch, its a guy called Gordon Munro who runs it and he is on 07843 307870. by modge1981 (Fri 3rd Apr 2020 10:15am)

  • Can speak for actually renting somewhere, but I used KPM to rent out and manage my property and they were terrible. My property developed a leak from the hot water tank, which they called an emergency plumber to sort. I was charged for the call out on my invoice and thought no more of it, as far as I was aware it had been fixed as I had no further communication or follow up. Nearly 2 months later I got a txt from the students living in it asking when the tank would be fixed and they would get their hot water back! Turns out KPM had just got the plumber to turn off the water and drain the tank and left it at that. I ended up having to arrange the hot water tank to be replaced myself as it was a nightmare actually getting ahold of anyone at KPM who had any clue what was happening. The 'inspection reports' I got 6 monthly were an absolute joke. They consisted of a word document (not even converted to PDF) with a photograph of the property (taken fron the previous advert, not a new photograph) and no title, the second page literally was: Hallway- Fine Bathroom - Fine Lounge - Fine Etc.... Honestly my 5 year old daughter could probably produce a more professional looking document. In any case Im sceptical they even went round to look at it. When those guys moved out shortly afterwards (understandably!) and the flat went back up for advertisment I was told that someone wanted to move in on a date anout 3 weeks away, great all sorted I thought. 2.5 weeks later I had had no contact or paperwork through so I called up to find that said people had pulled out of the rental a week and a half earlier, KPM had not relisted the property and the property manager had buggered off on holiday! That was enough for me, I jumped ship and never looked back. Anyway, from my experience I would avoid KPM at all costs!! by modge1981 (Tue 6th Apr 2021 9:07pm)

  • I get they want to raise awareness of their policies etc but the volume of this stuff is shocking. I mean seriously, has anyone ever been swayed to change their vote/allegiance based on a flyer through the door? In this day and age of environmental awareness and conservation how they can justify producing this volume of useless stuff that is probably going straignt in the bin in most households is rediculous. by modge1981 (Fri 30th Apr 2021 9:30am)

  • As a former postie I can confirm! It wasnt much it was like 0.5p per flyer or something like that, admittedly this was back in the late 90s so not sure what the score is these days. by modge1981 (Fri 30th Apr 2021 2:10pm)
  • If you can take off one of the remaining ones you can probably get someone to reproduce one on a 3d printer relatiey cheapley. I got a latch for my motorcycle luggage box replaced that way and that was what actually got me into 3d printing myself. I would actually offer to do it myself for you but Im away for the next couple of weeks, if its not urgent I could probably try and do it early August for you. by modge1981 (Thu 15th Jul 2021 10:55am)
  • Unexpected peep show! by modge1981 (Thu 15th Jul 2021 2:37pm)
  • We had that in our house a while back, a scottish water engineer came out and had a look and test the water, he said the chlorine content was indeed slightly high and this was sometimes due to having to change the chlorine dosage at the pumping/filtration stations and it takes a while to sort itself out over the network. He suggested if you fill a plastic bottle and leave the lid slightly ajar so its not air tight the chlorine should dissapate enough over a couple of hours that you wont notice the taste. We have not had the problem again since. by modge1981 (Sun 18th Jul 2021 1:01pm)
  • Dont know any first hand, but there are a few asian sweet shops you pass on the way down Pollockshaws road that would probably be a good start to try. by modge1981 (Sat 14th Aug 2021 7:58am)
  • If the car has been parked on the street with no insurance (you said your insurance starts tomorrow) this is also illegal as unless the vehicle is SORN, which it can only be if parked on private property, not on a public road. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 2:37pm)
  • As soon as you buy the car and transfer the V5 the existing tax from the previous owner is cancelled, so unless you have taxed the vehicle since buying it then it wont be taxed. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 2:42pm)
  • It cannot be on a PUBLIC road. A SORN vehicle must be stored on private property. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 2:48pm)
  • Yeah you probably just got lucky nobody reported it and the police never clocked it. But even if insurance is in place it wouldnt be valid if the vehicle was SORN and parked on a public road. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 2:57pm)
  • Even if insurance is in place if there is no tax on the car then it wont be valid. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 3:29pm)
  • Also if the vehicle is now registered to you following the transefer of the V5, your friends insurance likley still states she is the registered owner/keeper so again would render it invalid. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 3:34pm)
  • If its a private parking space that you own thats fine, but if its part of a shared residential car park that has no designated spaces it is still classed as a public roadway. by modge1981 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 3:30pm)
  • I have read about the health issues on dog vs horse crap, but it hardly makes it ok if people have to walk through it or if kids pick it up etc. And it will literally sit there till it rots, some piles have been there more than 2 weeks now. by modge1981 (Fri 20th Aug 2021 10:04am)
  • Its easy for me to step round but manoeuvering my son's pram round it, my daughter treading through it and trying to stop my dog licking/eating it at the same time isnt. by modge1981 (Fri 20th Aug 2021 10:08am)
  • https://ibb.co/p3dz43c I literally had to lift the pram over this lot by modge1981 (Fri 20th Aug 2021 10:12am)
  • Rented properties in scotland by law already need smoke alarms in all main living spaces and hallways as well as heat detectors in kitchens. The new legislation just states they now have to be interlinked so that if one is triggered they all sound. by modge1981 (Mon 30th Aug 2021 3:43pm)
  • Long time since I have been on the club scene in Glasgow, but one that always sticks in my mind was getting knocked back from one of Sauchiehall streets finest (think it was the garage but not 100% as it was that long ago). Just walked away no fuss and joined the back of the que again, 5 mins later back at the front, same bouncer lets us in no bother. by modge1981 (Fri 3rd Sep 2021 9:11am)
  • Top tip. Dont tell them its a wedding, tell them its a 'family function' and you will probably find the price will drop significantly. by modge1981 (Mon 13th Sep 2021 3:41pm)
  • From my understanding after 8am is outwith the antisocial noise enforcement times so ypu may be out of luck, although this may be different as its construction work, not a domestic noise complaint. My advice would be to call the council and they can give you the best most up to date and factual advice. by modge1981 (Thu 7th Oct 2021 8:48am)
  • If you are up for trying to crack it check out 'lockpicking lawyer' on youtube, he has guides on how to pick pretty much any of the main bike locks including kryptonites. by modge1981 (Fri 29th Oct 2021 7:21pm)
  • Ive nothing against a small fee, means dropping off you know you will get a space to drop off or pick up as they wont all be taken up by people loitering and double/triple parking as you had when it was a free for all. I think the £2 was reasonable, £4 is taking the piss. by modge1981 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 11:23am)
  • If you get clocked on CCTV picking up at BP its a £40 fine, a guy I worked with got spotted picking up our boss there last year. He got a letter with a picture of the CCTV showing him arriving alone, him and the boss putting bags into the car and then the two of them leaving. by modge1981 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 11:26am)
  • The prices for that airport bus are a joke. Dont get me wrong its a decent quick service, but when I was flying for work weekly it was significantly cheaper for me to drive in and leave my car at a park Sunday-Thursday and have it available for when I got back than it was for me to het the traon into Glasgow and then the Bus to the airport. Im all for using public transport but with the prices for trains etc in the UK its just not going to happen. by modge1981 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 12:09pm)
  • What are you basing it being illegal in the EU from? Do you have a source? Airports throughout the EU have been charging like this for years. by modge1981 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 12:06pm)
  • Cant remember. I have seen signs around stating that drop off/pickup anywhere other than car parks or the designated area is subject to a fine but I never thought they were enforced until I saw that one. by modge1981 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 2:40pm)
  • Ive got stacks of footage of idiots on the road from my car dash cam and my Motorcycle GOPRO, everything from blind corner overtakes, red light running, dangerous turns and general stupidness. Ive reported a few of the properly dangerous ones to the police but they have no time or inclination to do anything about it and I have been fobbed off. Bar posting it on youtube or here in r/idiotsincars sadly there isnt much else you can do. by modge1981 (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 2:01pm)
  • Ive taken video footage of dangerous driving to my local station and showed them and they were not interested. by modge1981 (Fri 24th Dec 2021 10:26am)
  • 2 instances. First a guy stopped at a red light, decided he didnt want to wait and turned left into the pedestrian crossing where a number of people had to move quickly to get out of his way. Second, when I was on my bike, an Idiot overtook on a blind corner coming towards me, narrowly missing me, if I was in my car it would have been a head on collision without a doubt, it was only because I was on the bike I managed to swerve right to the outermost section of the road. Both of which I would say are pretty damn dangerous by modge1981 (Fri 24th Dec 2021 11:51am)

  • Not in Glasgow but I got mine done in Pentland Powder coating just outside Edinburgh and tyey did a fantastic job. I got all 4 of my 18" alloys on my BMW repaired and re coated then new tyres (I provided) fitted for just under £300. And all 4 wheels were a mess when I took them in, they came out looking factory new. Admittedly mine were powder coated alloys not diamond cut, but I saw they do repair diamond cut too. They also offer 'loan' wheels that you can have fitted on your car whilst yours are being done. I can certainly vouch for their workmanship, i was a very satisfied customer. by modge1981 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 1:54pm)
