  • \> The government has suggested social distancing and vital travel only this entire time but because it hasn't been law no one has been following it. Hi, have you heard of "Eat out to help out"? by sboy365 (Sat 10th Oct 2020 1:17pm)
  • Think Annie Lennox was singing about her big day out in Glasgow? by sboy365 (Mon 17th May 2021 8:41am)
  • This doesn't really defend against the last minute U-turns and "oh, just another wee week" lies, which are what I find most annoying about the newest announcement. by sboy365 (Mon 17th May 2021 10:57am)
  • As far as I'm aware, there's no evidence that spread is driven by younger people. Glasgow City's numbers are massively inflated by a few neighbourhoods which aren't particularly studenty areas. (Pollokshields East + West, Maxwell Park, Govanhill West, Gorbals and Hutchesontown). Young people (like everyone else in the country) have had their lives heavily restricted since early last year in an effort to keep cases down, despite significantly less risk of death themselves (8 of Scotland's 7664 covid deaths were under 25). I do agree with you that targeting groups more likely to gather might've been a better vaccination approach (though I'll admit to not knowing much about how vaccines affect spread, so I won't comment too much). by sboy365 (Tue 18th May 2021 1:55am)

  • No worries, you came off perfectly reasonably! I do agree with your worries on household mixing (I think that's the gov stance too). I've spent most of the night digging through Public Health Scotland's spreadsheets, so I just had a bunch of crunched numbers to hand (plus I still count as young, so I may have gotten a little overly defensive) by sboy365 (Tue 18th May 2021 2:16am)
  • You seem sound too! It has been a downer of a weekend - feel free to send me a message if you ever want a chat by sboy365 (Tue 18th May 2021 2:30am)
  • When's Sturgeon giving her next covid brief? I'd have hoped for daily updates after the last minute plan change by sboy365 (Wed 19th May 2021 8:30am)
  • You never mentioned what kind of work you do (understand if you want to protect your privacy). It sounds like you were working in a 'startup' kind of place - Glasgow (like everywhere else) has a bunch of small, medium, and large businesses - you might prefer something more corporate, if the beer and pizzas weren't up your street. It's usually acceptable to quiz an interviewer on company culture, to see if you think it's a good fit. by sboy365 (Wed 19th May 2021 7:27pm)
  • Oh nice! Still, would have been nice to get a hint of a proper timeline last Friday. I've really been going for it with the data this week - I wish the 7-day neighbourhood cases weren't on a 3 day delay. by sboy365 (Wed 19th May 2021 7:34pm)
  • That'd be my best guess too. Apparently not the priority (unless there's some obscure rule blocking it until the transition is finished). Only other guess is that they think there's nothing worth sharing. by sboy365 (Wed 19th May 2021 7:33pm)
  • Ah nice, thanks! Looks like they've not properly announced a time yet, from what I can find Friday does ring a bell by sboy365 (Wed 19th May 2021 7:32pm)
  • At least: Driftwood, Nico's Bar, Kilts & Cocktails, Spoons, Life by sboy365 (Fri 21st May 2021 12:34am)
  • I think it's time to relax the outdoor drinking by-laws (maybe allowing only smaller, to keep the park's neighbours happy too) - not sure if there've been any recent attempts to get them overturned. I did ask the Kelvin SNP candidate about it (though it's a council issue, not ScotParliament) - she didn't seem overly keen (mentioned concerns for anti-social behaviour), but didn't outright reject the idea. by sboy365 (Fri 21st May 2021 12:38am)
  • Strathclyde's have been postponed (last year's are still postponed too) by sboy365 (Fri 21st May 2021 8:26am)

  • We're just a bunch of alkies, we couldn't possibly understand the data by sboy365 (Sat 22nd May 2021 2:13am)
  • The figures are all published [here daily by public health scotland](https://www.opendata.nhs.scot/dataset/covid-19-in-scotland). They also have [Tableau Dashboard](https://public.tableau.com/profile/phs.covid.19#!/vizhome/COVID-19DailyDashboard_15960160643010/Overview) by sboy365 (Mon 24th May 2021 1:42am)

  • All good! by sboy365 (Fri 28th May 2021 8:25pm)
  • Had my vaccine text in today from the Lanarkshire health board (I've updated my GP to Glasgow since then, though they're going slow on the paperwork). Any idea if I can rearrange my vaccine to NHSGGC? by sboy365 (Sat 29th May 2021 12:04pm)
  • The raw data is published daily [by Public Health Scotland](https://www.opendata.nhs.scot/dataset/covid-19-in-scotland) in CSV format. Definitely read the note for each data source for caveats (e.g. neighbourhood case data is published on a 3 day lag) by sboy365 (Sat 29th May 2021 12:45pm)
  • Worst case I can reschedule the date and go to that test centre (clashes with Jury Duty, probably won't let me out of it for a jab), but it's a 3 hour round-trip by bus, so I'd rather walk 10 minutes to the Louisa Jordan if it doesn't cause too much hassle. by sboy365 (Sat 29th May 2021 1:17pm)
  • Sounds like it's worth a swatch! Is this Locavore on Renfrew Street? by sboy365 (Sun 30th May 2021 7:48pm)
  • I'm quietly optimistic that moving the briefing to Wednesday means they have some reason to suspect it'll actually go ahead, but we've been burned before. by sboy365 (Mon 31st May 2021 12:34am)
  • > When are gigs back on? Probably not for a while yet (in Glasgow City, at least) - the only music allowed in level 2 is quiet background music (including live background music). It's like living in the town from Footloose :DDDDD by sboy365 (Tue 1st Jun 2021 11:32am)
  • Sorry, I've decided to just take a different date in the same health board, haven't tried to move it. by sboy365 (Tue 1st Jun 2021 3:08pm)
  • Glasgow's just coming out of a really long, really depressing lockdown. We can get the doom and gloom (however valid it may be) to fuck for a few days. by sboy365 (Fri 4th Jun 2021 11:09pm)
  • This is true - to be honest, I'm really liking most of what the council have done to pedestrianise the city over lockdown, and I hope they make some of it permanent/seasonal. That said, I no longer have to drive in the city (used to work in hospitality, after buses stopped) - I'd probably have a different opinion if that was the case. by sboy365 (Sat 5th Jun 2021 10:32am)
  • Hadn't heard about this, thank you! by sboy365 (Sat 5th Jun 2021 1:16pm)
  • Vaccinated people are still being asked to test themselves twice per week, so this is a bad idea. by sboy365 (Wed 8th Sep 2021 9:32pm)
  • I think [this NHS Inform page](https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/regular-rapid-coronavirus-tests-if-you-do-not-have-symptoms/) is the source of the advice, but I keep seeing targetted social media ads from NHS/gov with the same advice. by sboy365 (Wed 8th Sep 2021 11:41pm)
  • Anyone know where I can get a couple of kitchen knives sharpened? I'd have guessed it'd be the kind of thing that Timpsons would do, but their site doesn't mention it. (Or any idea if the wee cheap Amazon knife sharpeners are any good?) by sboy365 (Wed 15th Sep 2021 4:01pm)
  • [This should help you find somewhere near you](https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/findatestcenter.html) Never got one at a pharmacy, but I know GCU should be a safe bet til 8pm by sboy365 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 5:13pm)
  • Anyone know if there's any update/more info on the Elmbank Street stabbings the other day? by sboy365 (Wed 6th Oct 2021 11:30am)
  • Can hear bagpipes and stuff on Sauchiehall Street - orange walk, or has the tattoo shown up in the wrong city? by sboy365 (Sat 9th Oct 2021 12:03pm)
  • Oh nice, thanks! by sboy365 (Sat 9th Oct 2021 12:22pm)
  • Just saw that the Christmas market was (apparently) cancelled due to COP26 preventing them from being guaranteed access to the square. [Link](https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/christmas/cop26-glasgows-biggest-christmas-market-cancelled-over-site-access-problems-3434849) Genuinely sick of being turfed out our own city for a vanity conference. by sboy365 (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 12:32pm)
  • They can only get a half of cider/perry, or a measure of brandy, so it's hardly worth their journey. by sboy365 (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 5:37pm)
  • Could someone give me a quick explanation of the Scottish Power protest? From what I understood, all their generation was in renewables, which I thought would be the goal. by sboy365 (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 6:40pm)
  • Anyone know if Cineworld Renfrew Street's got work planned or something? Website doesn't have any showings from 12th-17th. by sboy365 (Mon 8th Nov 2021 10:37am)
  • Anybody know if there's any plan to extend the Mitchell Library opening hours? Wanting to force myself into the habit of reading, but I work a 9-5+, and the Tue-Sat 10-4 hours don't really mesh well with that. Bonus question: any recommendations for other good places near Sauchiehall Street to just read in the evenings, as a non-student? by sboy365 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 2:52pm)
  • Thanks! Never actually tried the CCA cafe, will probably give it a go! The only GFT cafe I've seen is tiny, the one on the way in to Screen 1 - is there another one? by sboy365 (Sat 13th Nov 2021 6:09pm)
  • Ahhh must have been before I'd ever been, thanks! by sboy365 (Sun 14th Nov 2021 5:33pm)
  • As expected, right after 30k extra people left the city by sboy365 (Sat 20th Nov 2021 2:32pm)
  • I'll admit, I didn't actually know this - fair enough, probably wasn't a big cause of cases, thanks for the info! For the record, I am fully vaxxed/masked (even got my flu jab!) and think everyone should be, though I'm wary of measures creeping back in and never going away by sboy365 (Sat 20th Nov 2021 4:43pm)
  • Yeah, Glasgow Live had prepared me for a city in ruin, but I only noticed a massive amount of police & a slightly longer queue in Tesco by sboy365 (Sat 20th Nov 2021 5:54pm)
  • Freezing again this morning, still not seen any snow in the town yet though by sboy365 (Mon 29th Nov 2021 10:22am)

  • Kings work on the same rules at the Theatre Royal (need to dump any glass bottles into a plastic cup before you go into the auditorium). by sboy365 (Wed 15th Dec 2021 11:04am)
  • A new variant should never have been a surprise. If vaccines weren't actually the route out of this, they shouldn't have pushed them as if they were. Not excited for another "3 weeks to flatten the curve". by sboy365 (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 12:31pm)
  • Worth checking a comparison site too (uSwitch, comparethemarket, moneysupermarket) in case there's a non-BT-infra supplier available who you hadn't heard of. It's dependent on what kind of connection to premises is available (you'd need fibre to premises for 50-60 and beyond, but may only have copper). In my case, BT & ISPs using their existing infra could only provide ADSL (10Mb down, 1Mb up), but Hyperoptic were present in the building and could do a run to my flat. (Obligatory: I am not a physical infrastructure person) by sboy365 (Thu 13th Jan 2022 4:04pm)
  • TIL, thanks for the correction! by sboy365 (Thu 13th Jan 2022 5:32pm)

  • Cool! Is there a map showing the area they're planning to "people first"? Agree that better public transport would help with support - I don't drive (live near Shawlands, work in city centre), and my commute by bus or train both work fine, but the train journey could be made much nicer by adding an extra carriage to the train (+ running more off-peak trains), and the bus journey could be so much faster with a bus lane along Pollokshaws Road. by sboy365 (Thu 24th Nov 2022 4:41pm)
  • > The answer to your question is that a private company is under absolutely no obligation to do anything for you if they don’t want to. You can make a complaint to them but if they’re not interested there’s nothing you can do. This is an oversimplification - see: [Transport Scotland - Buses](https://www.transport.gov.scot/public-transport/buses/) by sboy365 (Wed 22nd Nov 2023 5:37pm)
