  • I can't even imagine why someone wouldn't understand that you have problems related to your hearing/hearing aids. Sorry this keeps happening to you, pal. by skinofadrum (Thu 24th Sep 2020 12:56pm)
  • I'm glad you're all sound and happy with your extended bubble but it's a situation that flagrantly breaks the rules, so to say you're taking it seriously is a bit of a stretch. by skinofadrum (Thu 8th Oct 2020 9:52pm)
  • We're going to have to agree to disagree. There's absolutely no interpretation of the current recommendations that allow for a bubble to have up to seven different households. You can form a bubble with one other household if you live by yourself, or if you have childcare needs. Nothing in there about 'we hardly mix with anyone and we work from home'. But on you go, pal. by skinofadrum (Thu 8th Oct 2020 10:09pm)
  • Up to. That was a fairly key part of that sentence. by skinofadrum (Thu 8th Oct 2020 10:53pm)
  • Oh, well gold star for you then. I hope you can feel my sarcasm through the internet? by skinofadrum (Thu 8th Oct 2020 11:22pm)
  • Since I'm paying a delivery fee, no I don't tip (mainly use JustEats). Feeling a bit bad about it now after reading the comments here. I tried to tip a delivery driver who delivered something quite heavy (not food) once, and he didn't want to take the money. So that was awkward and made me think there's definitely not a common tipping standard. by skinofadrum (Sat 17th Oct 2020 10:54am)

  • People say this like it's such an easy thing, but all my friends are in bubbles with their parents and my parents live in another country, so... yeah. Depressing af. by skinofadrum (Tue 17th Nov 2020 9:53pm)
  • Assuming you're talking about the registrars (births, deaths and marriages), they won't be back in the Mitchell until some point in 2021. A lot of their information is available on Scotland's People. Glasgow City Archives and Special Collections in the Mitchell are still operating although they both have a large backlog due to the pandemic. by skinofadrum (Thu 26th Nov 2020 11:56pm)

  • The Cathcart circle does still run, just not as often as before. There are 2 or 3 trains per hour going through Shawlands for peak work travel time and then it's 1 an hour for the rest of the day. It's ridiculous but there's no sign of them changing it back - the trains are still much quieter than they used to be. by skinofadrum (Fri 26th Nov 2021 11:10am)

  • It's not strange! Lots of people go to museums and art galleries by themselves. Sharmanka's one of Glasgow's more weird and wonderful art pieces, so definitely worth a visit. Hope you enjoy it! by skinofadrum (Mon 7th Feb 2022 5:21pm)

  • They're looking at refurbishing the Provand's Lordship at the moment so would think they're unlikely to get rid of it. St Mungo's would be no great loss. Would definitely be better as an interpretation centre for the Cathedral and Necropolis than what it is now. by skinofadrum (Mon 21st Feb 2022 10:52am)

  • Sorry, are you saying Ukraine should sacrifice itself to secure the safety of 'the west'?? by skinofadrum (Tue 1st Mar 2022 4:02pm)
  • You said they should secede 'contested territory'. There isn't any contested territory, just like there wasn't when Russia annexed Crimea. There's land that belongs to Ukraine that Russia wants. That's not 'contested'. Russia have already shown they'll come come later for more if you concede territory, so why the fuck should anyone have to give in to them? Certainly not so that the countries around them don't also get invaded. by skinofadrum (Tue 1st Mar 2022 4:12pm)

  • Was there earlier this week and hated it. People on one side of me wore their masks the whole time, people on the other side only wore them when they went to get more drinks at intermission. My main problem though was that I'd forgotten how small the seats were and it felt terrible being wedged in between a bunch of strangers after years of social distancing. by skinofadrum (Fri 11th Mar 2022 2:16am)

They're in the galleries every day so there's a high chance one of them will remember the painting you mean, and if not they should be able to track down someone who does. by skinofadrum (Sun 8th May 2022 5:33pm)

  • I'm Irish and I've had people take issue with my accent a handful of times since I moved to Scotland. This isn't a Scotland-specific phenomenon and I would never advise someone to 'beef up' a foreign element to their accent. Your accent is your accent and if people take issue with it they can fuck right off. by skinofadrum (Sat 25th Jun 2022 3:21pm)
  • I had this problem with food smells from my downstairs neighbour coming through the built-in cupboard in the living room. I used sealant all around the edges of the floor and the skirting, and in the joints of the floorboards, before putting down a scrap of thick lino. Haven't had any problems since. by skinofadrum (Sun 26th Jun 2022 11:16am)
  • I had the same problem so used lots of filler to bring the gaps where skirting board used to be out to the same level as the wall and then used sealant between the base of the filler and the floor. I also had some defunct pipes running from my flat to the one downstairs (old water heater, I think) and I made sure to seal around those really well. Basically, fill any cracks or gaps in the wall with polyfilla, and then fill the joins of everything with sealant. Honestly made a world of difference for me so hopefully it will for you too. by skinofadrum (Sun 26th Jun 2022 11:51am)

  • The building I live in is factored by them and I'm not a fan. Their communication is often confusing and vague. They sent a surveyor around to access my flat once without telling me in advance, and then they never gave me the results of his survey. And, this sounds minor but drives me insane, they send a LOT of post related to their annual charges. by skinofadrum (Mon 8th Aug 2022 6:27pm)
  • Council workers also had a pay freeze for several years in a row that other industries didn't have. by skinofadrum (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 9:11pm)
  • According to my union, council workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland were offered a flat-rate pay rise of £1925, not a choice between a better percentage or £3000 cash. I'd also question your statement about the UK government providing the same money to Scotland but Nicola Sturgeon personally misappropriating it. by skinofadrum (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 9:10pm)

  • My turn for a train whinge. Do they not run trains late on a Friday anymore? Last train to Cathcart last night was at 11.05,and that's not even my closest station (last train to my actual station was at 10.45). Had to fling myself across the town after a gig at the Old Fruitmarket to catch it. by skinofadrum (Sat 28th Jan 2023 9:40am)

  • Thanks for the heads up on the Schubert performance! Even though it's day of, Glasgow Life still made me buy two tickets so I wouldn't leave a single seat by itself... by skinofadrum (Fri 19th May 2023 10:38am)
  • Shame you couldn't make it, it was really good. The musicians seemed to be really enjoying themselves! I book a lot of single tickets so I've come across the single seat restriction before. Glasgow Life are bad for it, but they're not the only ones who do it. It's usually if there are two seats in the middle of a row and you try to book one, they stop you. If there are three seats, you can book one no bother. This time it was for those two seaters that run along the side of the City Halls. Wouldn't let me book just one even though those were pretty much the only seats left. by skinofadrum (Fri 19th May 2023 4:13pm)

  • They 100% will NOT chap your door. I booked a pick up and forgot about it - they went to the designated area, saw nothing and left. I had to rebook (and pay again).
