  • Very last minute but does anyone know of shops/businesses that would be willing to donate vouchers or gifts for a school's summer fayre raffle? by spongespatula (Thu 26th May 2022 7:28am)
  • Good idea, thanks! by spongespatula (Thu 26th May 2022 8:45am)
  • If you like pizza, Mozza or Paesano are good! by spongespatula (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 9:55pm)
  • Mozza (although Paesano is better, but doesn't deliver)! by spongespatula (Mon 29th Aug 2022 6:15pm)
  • Teachers are not on strike next week, it's all the other staff around them that is. I think there is some concern for teachers that they might be reprimanded if they don't show up for work. The schools might be closed to the kids but teachers are still expected to be there as they are paid for those days (Meetings? In-service training days? Class cleaning?). by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:05am)
  • I have no idea what they are meant to do but some of the teachers I know said they are expected to be in school and fill up that time. And because their union hasn't said anything about supporting the strikes, one is worried about being negatively affected if they don't go into work those days. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:14am)
  • Some of the people going to strike (not teachers) are on 14k or less a year. Now that is a ridiculous pay, for the workload involved. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:18am)
  • That's exactly why I was asking. I've heard from some teachers that in support of their colleagues they won't be scabs but others have pointed out that they are worried about getting caught in the repercussions that not going to work might have. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:21am)
  • Because teachers work alongside people who are on strike, and in the same work environment. Teachers are not on strike but support workers, teaching assistants, janitors, dinner ladies etc will be. Some schools are entirely shut during that time. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 9:28am)
  • Some secondary schools (the ASN ones) in Glasgow will be shut because they cannot safely operate without extra staff. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 10:54am)
  • You are missing one big category there: pupil support workers. Basically there all day with the teachers, and outside during snack and lunch breaks. Tasked to take care of the children with additional support needs, challenging behaviour, disruptive or dangerous in the class...on less than £14k a year. by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 11:01am)
  • I'm not saying there is a point. But the teachers I know have said they will have to physically be at school because they are still getting paid (despite this specific school being shut during the strikes). by spongespatula (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 12:44pm)
  • That's as stupid an argument as saying "wearing a skirt is basically asking for rape". by spongespatula (Fri 20th Jan 2023 10:59am)
  • Oxfam has a book store online and physically (one is in Byres road I think). They do mostly second hand books so might take in donations. by spongespatula (Sun 19th Feb 2023 11:40pm)
  • Sorry I don't know about in your areas, and this suggestion might be a bit too far for you but from experience I've got only positive things to say about [Lorimer&Findlay ](https://www.lorimerfindlay.com/) by spongespatula (Tue 28th Feb 2023 7:18am)
  • You might be better off booking ahead. I used to with Airport Taxis OTS and it was cheaper than getting a taxi there and then. You give them the arrival time and flight number on the online booking form so they know when to be there (considering passport and luggage waiting times). by spongespatula (Fri 3rd Mar 2023 7:06pm)
  • Sloans in Argyle street do a lovely French Martini! Oh and there's some nice frozen margaritas in Mezcal. by spongespatula (Fri 3rd Mar 2023 7:11pm)
  • Heard good things about 'The Brunch Club' (near Kelvingrove museum) by spongespatula (Tue 28th Mar 2023 8:43pm)
  • OP has written it out under the post by spongespatula (Wed 7th Jun 2023 4:37pm)
  • If you like books, Waterstones in Sauchiehall Street has a couple of cafes inside (one downstairs, one top floor). Might be a tranquil gap stop between places. by spongespatula (Tue 27th Jun 2023 2:41pm)
  • This looks to be a fairly modern (like last 30 years?) addition. There is a step into the flat so floors have been raised up. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 9:44am)
  • First floor by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 9:42am)
  • Maybe the housing association that owned it had some shares in a gravel business lol. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 9:46am)
  • Thank you, that's reassuring. Regarding the joists eh, the whole floor is raised and laid on top the original floor and joists, so I'm hoping it won't be too much of a problem. I expect all work has been done quick and cheap unfortunately. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 10:04am)
  • Cool, good to know. I was just surprised because it must be quite a weight. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 10:05am)
  • Forgot to mention in the description that this has been placed on top of the floor. There's a step of like 5cm if not more into the flat. So if I were to take off this raised floor there should be still floor and deafening under that as per normal. But don't worry I don't have the courage or money to lift all of that back up. I'll just put flooring above it. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 11:03am)
  • Thank you, it was screwed in (in that spot at least) so we'll screw it back in. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 12:18pm)
  • Original boards or a replacement of those, yes. by spongespatula (Thu 24th Aug 2023 3:24pm)
