  • Seen a guy on a black Planet X bike up Onslow Drive in Dennistoun tonight. He was in cycling gear (didn’t look like a bam) but was cycling it on the pavement slowly, like he was getting used to riding it for the first time. Maybe been sold it by said bam? by thrillamilla (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 10:30pm)
  • Sorry I can’t help you out more, if I see him again I’ll stop and ask. Keep an eye out on the usual places like FB market and Gumtree. Check if there’s anywhere with CCTV that might cover it? Sad to say that the police probably don’t have much time to look for stolen bikes but at least you have a report number. Secondly, check your contents insurance if you have it, some policies include things like bikes outside the house. When I was in your situation, I was insured up to £500 of missing bike. If anything, at least it’s an excuse to get a new bike. Also a chunky lock. https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/997986.html by thrillamilla (Tue 24th Mar 2020 2:30pm)
  • Can I ask where in Dennistoun? That's where I live and now I'm concerned. Sorry about your situation, only place I got burgled was the West End, ironically. by thrillamilla (Fri 10th Apr 2020 5:02pm)

  • Wagamama’s is pretty good value and has lower calorie options - about £11 for 4 people (1 main ea and 5 sides). Queue at Silverburn was busy but ended up waiting maybe 30-40 minutes at about 7. If you go about 8 you wouldn’t be queuing long at all. by thrillamilla (Wed 19th Aug 2020 10:25pm)

  • I know it’s always a common theme but any argument or near miss I’ve had is with taxis, some are nice, some are not. I usually don’t skip forward to the cycle waiting area at junctions if it’s a busy morning/night as the people who I pass to get there have already overtaken me and either 1) have a certain amount of patience 2) didn’t give enough room when passing the first time. When coming up to chokes in the road, like narrow roads between islands I usually take the middle of the lane. Anywhere where it’s narrow enough that someone in a car might want to try and overtake. And make sure highly visible when doing this, or anytime for that matter. Don’t wear all black at night. Be considerate of everyone on the road. I know the de facto position when cycling is to assume that everyone in a car is hates a cyclist but as a driver and cyclist I know this isn’t the case. Put yourself in their position, they might’ve had a bad day and just want to get home and a rude cyclist is just another trigger to set them off and do something stupid. They teach this in driving but hazard perception goes a long way if you’re cycling in town on a busy morning. Try and look ahead on every road, think about what you’re going to do, think about what you might do if you were in a car. But stay vigilant and expect the unexpected. It rains a lot in Glasgow in winter (and summer) and it can suck going into your destination the whole day wet so either don’t cycle that day, get good waterproofs or have a change of clothes packed (right down to your kegs). by thrillamilla (Wed 7th Sep 2022 12:16pm)

  • I find it crazy that (presumably) a lot of influential people pass through the M8 (over the bridge at Cowcaddens) and yet we are only half way through the bridge repair that’s going on. Surely GCC would have them working on that day and night to get it fixed ASAP. I feel embarrassed that a portion of people’s first impression of Glasgow is gridlock of the main motorway at pretty much any time of the day on any day of the week…and there’s more roadworks (down to one lane on the slip road) if you’re coming off at Anderston! by thrillamilla (Thu 8th Dec 2022 4:48pm)

  • Big and small shops on the high street are usually owned by a bigger company and have an actual HR portal with all the bells and whistles that go with it. Restaurants will have more flexibility as some of (if not the majority) are either not owned by a parent and have more autonomy to hire people, more so when there’s a chef to who can’t find a clean plate to sell the food that they need to make money. And the manager can only roll their sleeves up and pitch in so many times ;) by thrillamilla (Mon 16th Jan 2023 10:49am)

  • I suppose one way around this is to ask to have it removed then tip it in cash. That way you’re making the tip easier for the staff to actually receive, not that that’s guaranteed knowing some places. by thrillamilla (Wed 25th Jan 2023 11:57pm)
  • On that junction approaching from Glasgow Green there’s a straight on cycle lane that passes through a left turn filter lane. I’ve never understood who has right of way - I’d say it’s always the cyclist here - but always stop to look for indicators (some times they’re turning and not indicating) and give the traffic right of way because I don’t think anyone knows… by thrillamilla (Sun 29th Jan 2023 7:57am)

  • Not an aerodynamic engineer but my best guess is that it’s something to do the planes coming into land to Glasgow with the low cloud, moist air and low pressure below the cloud. I live just underneath the flight path where planes circle in land at Glasgow and normally hear it when the weather is like this. You can’t really hear much when the plane is in the cloud, then it gradually builds as the plane descends until it bursts through the bottom of the cloud. That sound is exacerbated by the moist air because water droplets propagate sound more. Video below is what we example of what you’d hear popping through the clouds. [Wake turbulence](https://youtu.be/fcxIgNwXuqc) Edit: Flightradar24 is 5 mins behind real time so might be worth trying to match it up. by thrillamilla (Fri 30th Jun 2023 10:57pm)

  • To think in 1934 they probably thought we’d be sucked through a network of tubes in seconds to get to the spaceport to go on a holiday to the moon in 2024. Instead we’re just watching the wee LED screen tell us a less bus is due when it’s nowhere to be seen and taking the tram would probably get you there on the time you aimed for. by thrillamilla (Mon 31st Jul 2023 12:08am)
  • This is going to get downvoted but I like that they do this in Glasgow because it lends credence that despite free speech is “free” it is not a tool that can be used to manipulate. Glasgow understands that there are people with backward views and we accept it but we don’t condone it. Let them come and spew their shit, we all know it’s dogshit. by thrillamilla (Sat 5th Aug 2023 6:38pm)
