  • Awww that's gotta be heartbreaking. I guess just attention and physical contact to help her understand you're her new family is all you can really do. I hope she settles in soon. by upboats4u (Mon 21st Jan 2019 10:28am)

  • Yoga really depends on the style the instructor is trained in but I've found it's generally at an accessible level. (and if they're a good instructor they should be able to adapt to you) I would also highly recommend the Lift It classes, it's max 4 to a class and often less than that, basically a free personal training session if you're interested in learning compound movements like squats and deadlifts and level 2 moves on to Olympic lifts. by upboats4u (Wed 30th Jan 2019 1:07pm)

  • There's a cool site called www.workaway.info where you can volunteer for food and accommodation all around the world. There are a few in Scotland, why not take a break and spend a month on one of the islands doing some outdoor work or something. If you do want to travel £8k will go a long way using that method. by upboats4u (Mon 6th Jan 2020 2:26pm)
  • Raining. The weather in autumn is raining. Or windy. Or both. Or sometimes gloriously crisp and freezing. But mostly raining. Waterproof boots, lightweight very very waterproof jacket, bonus points for extra length and a good hood that doesn't blow off in the wind. Probably won't get bellow freezing but it could. Unlikely to get above about 15 degrees on an average day, most likely colder as the season progresses. All that said September can also be one of the best months for clear days and sometimes it stays slightly warmer into October too. by upboats4u (Thu 9th Jan 2020 11:34pm)

  • Yep, this is your biggest advantage in the situation. Your landlord should also be officially registered (easily searchable) and if he isn't you not paying rent is the least of his worries. Join Living Rent firstly. Pay your council tax. Ask your landlord for the details of your deposit and if they cannot provide them then its highly unlikely they will be taking legal proceedings against you for the flat they are illegally renting to you. by upboats4u (Tue 31st Mar 2020 11:31am)

  • DELETED Have you lived there or ever spoken to anyone who lived there? I don't know what I expected... by upboats4u (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 9:31am)
  • DELETED My point is i don't want to talk about the problems in ghill I want people to ask themselves why they feel so strongly about it. I can find newspaper clipping about horrible violent crimes anywhere in Glasgow including on my street currently in the west end. (which btw i feel significantly less safe in compared to when i lived in ghill) by upboats4u (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 9:30am)
  • DELETED So how can't you acknowledge the positives? Did you talk to a brown person during your time there or engage in any way? by upboats4u (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 9:36am)

  • There's v little chance that anyone will look at it/buy it for more than the gold weight value unless _maybe_ it has makers marks of a famous maker on it. by upboats4u (Sat 24th Apr 2021 12:08am)
  • You can weigh it yourself, minus the estimated stone weight (a stone carat is 0.2g), check marks for what carat of gold it is (stuff bought on holiday is often 14k and has no marks) and check the bullion price for how much 24k is worth to get a rough idea of the worth. by upboats4u (Sat 24th Apr 2021 12:10am)

  • yep (I was wrong they are actually 16gb sticks) ddr3 is like 10 years old so its possible they won't actually be "better" just "bigger" than the ram you already have... by upboats4u (Sat 25th Jun 2022 4:10pm)
  • Their pay is not decent (I guess depends on role) they were recently recruiting for skilled workers (chef) at an embarassingly low rate. by upboats4u (Tue 26th Jul 2022 8:57am)
  • This assumes someone has anything left after rent ect. I spend 150pcm on food, don't drive or really go anywhere that isn't walking distance and I have 150 left over after all non negotiable expenses (that doesn't include household goods like bin bags/seasonal things like boots, socialising in any way, getting the bus once in a while etc). by upboats4u (Fri 19th Aug 2022 11:30am)
  • Thanks, I do actually try to save a decent proportion of the "spare" money but I'm also paying for therapy out of pocket because the nhs mental health system is worse than useless (for me) so functionally there is zero left! I also am autistic so have very limited capacity for work on the side (but also don't do normal people things like pub/cinema/following fashion etc so am "cheap to run" luckily!) I'm really grateful to live somewhere that has social support and can't even imagine what its like for those living inbetween the breadline and being eligible for UC! by upboats4u (Fri 19th Aug 2022 12:16pm)
  • "Fees for hall hire are fixed at £85 for an afternoon OR evening booking. Fees for all day bookings are £140 (all-day definition covers any function starting pre-1800 hours and running into the evening" this is the info I got from them, is this "buttons"? • for price and convenience the morrisons at 5 barrack st is gonna be your best bet, and if aldi has things they're probably a good place as any. Ikea won't be cheaper and navigating the busses on your first days in the city is inadvisable. by upboats4u (Tue 19th Sep 2023 1:09pm)

  • I recently got McGill's 3 after exclusively using first forever and I was amazed tbh. Friendly driver, clean bus, usb charging points. Like the bus was so clean I was trying to find evidence of any dust or debris at all and wondering if this was its maiden voyage. by upboats4u (Wed 18th Oct 2023 10:40pm)
  • I did wonder whether my McGills experience on the 3 heading south was because of them catering to the leafy burbs, when I lived in Govan MG never seemed so luxurious. by upboats4u (Thu 19th Oct 2023 1:00pm)
  • yeah I saw it open on saturday by upboats4u (Tue 31st Oct 2023 4:20pm)
  • I think the only thing nobody has mentioned is that it can get noisy in part depending on where you live (traffic noise, people on the streets at all hours, crowds leaving hampden walking back into town) so if you're sensitive to noise and the flat is closer to ground level that's something to take into account, Calder St is not quiet. My previous flat was ground floor in a quiet area and had no issues at all re noise but felt less safe walking home at night because of how quiet it was, my current flat is top floor in hearing distance of cathcart road and the noise levels are sometimes quite disturbing to me but feel safer walking alone 'cos there are always people about. A lot of the damaged cars I've seen around are near the mechanics and panel beaters that are around (and some underground ones too as far as I've noticed, where people work out of their flats and work on cars out on the street). There are plenty of fancy cars parked around the place I don't think it's particularly more likely to be vandalised here than anywhere else. I'd also ask about pests, there are some blocks that have problems with cockroaches because if there are one or two flats in the block not getting treated its hard to keep them out. Same with rodents although its easier to keep them out if you're diligent with sealing up holes. I have a friend who lives on Calder St in the stretch that people have said is the worst and they've had no issues it really depends on what your block is like. by upboats4u (Wed 8th Nov 2023 1:45pm)
  • Is it possible you have a neighbour smoking or growing and your complainer is just assuming its you? I'm an ex smoker and v sensitive to cannabis smells and as a bunch of people have already said vape really should not be stinking so much your neighbour can smell it enough to complain. by upboats4u (Sat 11th Nov 2023 10:49pm)
