  • I appreciate the recommendation regarding the clothing. We are from the states in Phoenix where it is roughly 40 year round so we expect and are prepared for the change. Regarding the postcodes, we are looking to spend around 1750/m but would be willing to go up to 2k/m if we can get everything we want. What would be the best way to review private landlord listings? I've skimmed rightmove but nothing besides that. by Barthas85 (Tue 1st Dec 2020 2:02pm)

  • No shit. That's why i pointed out I'm both Jewish and white. People who chant "white lives matter" also not-so-suprisingly have antisemitic beliefs. Or are you saying someone that ascribes to a religious belief is all of a sudden not white/black/etc? by Barthas85 (Sun 31st Jul 2022 2:38pm)

  • I net \~68.8k after pension contributions, wife doesn't work, child goes to daycare, 2 dogs, live in city centre. I think the biggest thing people don't realize when they start making more money is that, if your lifestyle is fine, the extra money can be used to make your retirement better / come faster. Most people tend to continue to increase their lifestyle instead. Knowing I put a substantial amount towards retirement each year is what takes away "the fear" for me. by Barthas85 (Tue 11th Oct 2022 7:37am)

  • Hi. I'm a kipa wearing Ashkenazi and my wife is Sephardic who wears a Star of David. Neither of us have had any actual antisemitic issues (apart from a few lads scream singing some song at us that ended with "thank God I was born a Catholic"). I've actually had quite a few random conversations with people about being Jewish as they never had met one before. There are weekly booths talking about the evils of Israel and free Palestine, but they are generally peaceful and I've never had an issue. Glasgow is very much a "don't be a cunt" kind of place. As long as you're a nice person, 99% of your interactions will be nice. Some won't be of course, but it's likely not because you're Jewish, but because that person just sucks as a human. by Barthas85 (Fri 25th Aug 2023 10:10pm)
  • Nah you're good. Wife wears a star and I wear a kipa. Never had an issue. by Barthas85 (Fri 25th Aug 2023 10:15pm)

  • Egypt won't let them in - Israel's fault But they bombed Gaza after Gaza shot rockets at Israel - Israel's fault they should have shown restraint, not enough Israelis died But they were driven out of their land after a shit load of their neighbors declared war on Israel the day after it was founded because they thought Israel was gonna lose - Israel's fault for not dying But what about the settlements, they are illegal according to international law! - Israel's fault for the international community founding Israel in the first place But Hamas is responsible, not Palestinians - Israel's fault for Palestinians electing a terrorist organization made up of Palestinians But Palestinian refugees were massacred after fleeing in Lebanon - Israel's fault for a Maronite Christian assassinating the President of Lebanon. Quick question: who is gonna get blamed for the entire region's problems after israel isn't there anymore? Because that's the goal, right? "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." That means no Israel. So, who will be the new scapegoat? by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 3:38pm)
  • Hamas is made up of a heavy majority of Palestinians Palestinians elected Hamas You're a fucking walnut by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 4:48pm)
  • Did the Irish elect the provisional IRA to represent them on the international stage? by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 6:36pm)
  • >Hamas have illegally held power for over a decade. Sounds like the people of Gaza should do something about that >The people of Gaza didn't ask for this terrorist attack Thats weird because I'm sure a bunch of 20-somethings didn't ask to get mass murdered, kidnapped, raped, and now being threatened to be executed and broadcast live. by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 6:44pm)
  • Yes what a shocking belief that people should change their situation, even if it takes blood, to better their lives and the lives of their children. Wasn't the point of the rally to change the governments actions? Or are you saying it's different for you than it is for them? Amazingly when you elect a murderous regime to manage your people, it takes force to remove them. Once again, the Israelis didn't "ask" for this either, unless you are arguing that they elected people to do what has been done. Therefore, the logic stands that this also applies to the Palestinians regarding who they elected. My point is you're a blind hypocrite that applies rules to one and not rules to all. Israel bad, Palestinians justified. Let's ignore the 70+ years that Israel has been under fire from all neighboring countries for existing, for being a Jewish state, both metaphorically in the UN and literally from half a dozen wars, intifadas, etc. Noooo can't factor that in, that doesn't fit well with the victimhood complex terrorist sympathizers manifest to excuse the above mentioned actions. NK - who's responsibility is it to fix their problems then? Russia - same question. by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 7:52pm)
  • No, the IRA was never elected. They had to finance their operations through illegal means. by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 7:55pm)
  • You are saying members of the ira were elected to westminster. Not that the IRA was elected to represent all Irish people. You know, like Hamas was in Gaza. by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 8:12pm)
  • Hysterical. Grandiose assumptions indeed. Yes, it's difficult to achieve. Might as well not try and die anyway? Naive again, hysterical. Is this an impoverished measuring competition? Is this where we flex on the internet who is right based on our upbringing and experiences? What a joke. You're right, you haven't justified anything. You have completely ignored the actions of hamas and solely point the blame at Israel. Hamas is made up of Palestinians. Are they importing Iranians to invade Israel? How about Qatari's? Who are these mystical people that definitely are Hamas but definitely aren't Palestinians? by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 8:15pm)
  • Yes, providing logical arguments is hysteria. Solid point. Yes, you said the IRA didn't represent all of Ireland. I said the IRA wasn't elected. You said it was. I pointed out it wasn't. You pivoted to say that *some members* were elected. That's not electing the organization. Hamas the organization *was* elected, therefore it *does* represent the Palestinian people of Gaza. To quote you: >I don't know why that's so difficult for you to understand. You're posting comparisons to NK and Russia but refusing to address the questions posed when I responded. You ad hom'd when you could have posted substance. by Barthas85 (Mon 9th Oct 2023 9:26pm)
  • The median is actually [19.6 years](https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/state-of-palestine-demographics/#:~:text=The%20median%20age%20in%20the,is%2019.6%20years%20(2023).) for Palestinians as of 2023 and [18 years](https://www.indexmundi.com/gaza_strip/demographics_profile.html) specific to Gaza as of 2021. That being said, I get the point and the government is not representative of the people when you factor in children from birth to 18. Much like...every other country. by Barthas85 (Tue 10th Oct 2023 6:15am)
  • "By any and all means" yep sounds about right. Chickens for KFC. by Barthas85 (Sun 22nd Oct 2023 1:20pm)
  • No, that's called war. The US, UK, and Russia did similar in Afghanistan over the years. Strangely, there are still native Afghanis in existance. The Kurds in Iraq, however, is a great example of genocide. 90% of all villages, towns, and cities wiped out with the use of chemical weapons, which are indiscriminate regarding their victims. Genocide: the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. Palestinian population: From 1990 to 2022 the population of Palestine increased from 1.98 million to 5.04 million people. This is a growth of 155.0 percent in 32 years. - world data So to be clear, you're claiming Israel is both committing genocide while at the same time claiming they are literally terrible at committing genocide. by Barthas85 (Mon 23rd Oct 2023 12:42pm)
  • Any comment questioning Hamas seems to get autovoted down into oblivion. When did this subreddit become r/uk? by Barthas85 (Sat 4th Nov 2023 9:27pm)
  • You're right. The Israelis should use the Jewish Space Laser to pinpoint assassinate them underground in hospitals. I would love to hear your idea on how to remove a terrorist organization that hides amongst civilians while attacking a soverign state. No seriously, I would love to hear the idea. It would save countless lives across the world seeing this is a problem in a few dozen countries. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 7:24am)
  • >Why do you need to question Hamas? Well seeing you have no problem citing Hamas stats, I would argue you have no issue with believing them. There is no independent organization counting the dead. Think 9/11, or even the recent attack on Israel itself. It takes months to identify the dead. But Hamas somehow has a list of 7-8k dead ready on a moment's notice? Come on, man. Use common sense. In no way am I saying no civilians have died, but they openly state they do not distinguish between civilians and militants. And before you respond with "oh so kids are militants?" See above point regarding no independent verification. Yes, kids have absolutely died. Absolutely. It's fucking awful. It's a nightmare. Hamas intentionally went out and SLAUGHTERED children with their bare hands. Israel wants to kill the people that SLAUGHTERED children with their bare hands. Those same people HIDE among their own people's children to get them killed. There is no moral equivalency here. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 7:29am)
  • >Israel keeps Palestinians in conditions that would be illegal in the west Israel pulled out in 2005. Built the wall in 2007 after massive amounts of terrorist attacks. They also established the blockade then. So I would love to hear how that is Israel's fault. "But they control the borders." No, they control "A" border, Egypt controls the other. What did they do? Built a wall as well, with only 1 crossing. They allow zero Palestinians to enter on a normal basis, unlike Israel, that grants 500k work visas a day for Palestinians. What is Egypt doing right now? Building an Even Bigger Wall. Hamas is responsible for what life is like in Gaza. They s[tole the money given to the Palestinians from the international community](https://mackenzieinstitute.com/2023/11/hamass-top-leaders-are-worth-billions-heres-how-they-continue-to-grow-rich/). They [dug up water pipes](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/10/10/eu-funded-water-pipelines-hamas-rockets/) to build rockets and left their people without potable water. They also[hide fuel, food, and water](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/27/world/middleeast/palestine-gazans-hamas-food.html) for their militants while their people starve and die of thirst. They block passage south for innocents to evacuate, then they attempt to escape into Egypt, [hiding amongst the injured](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/03/world/middleeast/hamas-gaza-evacuees-rafah-crossing.html). I say this because I have found most people do not realize what things are like there because they only see what their algorithm feeds them. Quite often, the view would be much different from their own eyes if they went there. In no way am I saying Israel is perfect, far from it. I have no problem stating that. I also have no problem stating that the death of civilians, regardless of their nationality, is horrible and needs to be avoided when able. Hiding behind civilians, after targeting civilians, does not equal a free pass. It just makes you responsible for the death of all the above-mentioned civilians. >Palestinian health authority stats are generally recognized as accurate, they literally posted the id cards of the victims so it's easily verifiable. Palestinian health authority, as stated before, does not differentiate between militants and civilians. Let's assume every Palestinian that is female and under the age of 18 is a civilian (even though [Hamas training starts at 4 years old](https://www.businessinsider.com/hamas-kid-summer-camp-2016-8?r=US&IR=T#palestinian-youths-attended-a-military-exercise-during-a-summer-camp-organized-by-the-islamic-resistance-movement-hamas-on-august-11-2005-at-an-refugee-camp-from-the-gaza-strip-1), which is a human rights violation). With that assumption, that means statistically \~6500 civilian deaths. Horrible. Just horrible. Literally could have been avoided if Hamas decided to fight on a battlefield and not from civilian populations. However, as they pointed out, it is [not their responsiblity to protect Gazans](https://www.timesofisrael.com/top-hamas-official-claims-group-is-not-responsible-for-defending-gazan-civilians/), it is...Israel's responsibility? Regarding the ID tags, would love a link. I have a background in AI so I would be able to see if they are legitimate / edited / duplicated rather quickly. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 8:53am)
  • >Quite simply you remove the human rights violations that cause people to be so hopeless that violence seems like the only solution. You are not saying what those are. Are you referring to the wall? Because that was created after the Palestinians were blowing themselves up to kill as many Israelis as possible. The blockade? See previous answer. Was waiting for the Apartheid claim, but you know that's not legitimate. >Palestinians basic human rights including self determination in their own country Offered 5 times, once again clearly not coming from a position of honesty. >Netenahayu supported the violent Hamas over the peaceful PLO I would put "peaceful" in quotes there, but this is accurate. This is where I point out that Israel isnt perfect and Netenyahu needs to go. Quite simply, in your words, everything you are asking for either did exist prior or has been offered. In all situations they were used to kill civilians or rejected because of the belief that Israel should not exist and therefore they are following the 3 "No's" from the AL. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 9:18am)
  • At the end of the day, I am citing specific examples and how it hasn't worked. You are speaking in generalities and fantasy, assuming a wand could be waved and all of a sudden a terrorist organization will want peace. It's not reality. I wish I lived in the world you do, because at least that means there would be peace. But I live in the real world, where it is a multi-billion pound a year business to ensure the Palestinian people suffer, are never free, and never have their own state. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 9:20am)
  • "Remove human rights abuses" isn't specific. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 9:43am)
  • If you're talking about the blockade, they follow international law. If you're talking about the current war, they are following international law. If you're talking about the wall, guess what? Following international law. International law =/= no civilians die in war. International law =/= requiring arms be trafficked through your country to your enemy. International law =/= granting rights to non-citizens for free movement. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 9:58am)
  • They have access to food and water, Hamas steals it. Since Israel, once again, doesn't control Gaza, that's a Hamas issue. Freedom to travel? I don't know about you, but I need a visa to go into a country that I don't have citizenship in. Return to their homes - Israel offered this and many accepted. That's why there are over 2m Arabs living in Israel. Where do you think they came from? The sky? Vote - blame Hamas. Arabs and Palestinians in Israel can vote, are judges, and are in the parliament. Build houses - see "vote" answer Walk on the street - see "vote" answer Prosper and have a future - see "vote" answer Self determination - I'm all for it! Let's get that 2 state solution rolling, right? To live to old age - #1 morbidity influencer in the region is Hamas. Evicted from their home - pay your rent / mortgage / property taxes. Last time I checked, if I don't I'm out on my ass. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 10:04am)
  • Hey! I am always happy to learn! That seems to be the difference between myself and many that hold opposing views. Could you provide some links? I truly do love expanding my knowledge on this topic and, as stated before, have no doubt Israel has not done its best. As a country it is not perfect, nor is any, as they are made up of imperfect people. And if possible, could you pick a NGO outside of Amnesty, [it has a track record.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Amnesty_International) by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 10:20am)
  • Once again, could you pick a NGO that doesn't have a colorful and checkered past regarding Israel? It's important to get info from sources that have limited bias. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Human_Rights_Watch by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 11:31am)
  • Do as you wish. I only asked for a NGO that has not shown a history of bias against the exact state you are claiming has done something, and using them as an example. I am not "rejecting pretty much any" NGO, just ones that have \*glaring\* issues historically in reference to the topic at hand. If you do not wish to vet your own sources, and use ones that funnel into your confirmation bias, that's on you. by Barthas85 (Mon 6th Nov 2023 1:41pm)
