  • I'd avoid Countrywide, who I will refer to as Cuntrywide from here on. Had a flat on Bell St, good price for the size, but it was a bit run down and they were useless. Had to chase up issues constantly, they lost their set of keys to give to workmen but never told us so any repairs that needed doing never happened on the first arranged date because we were out and the workmen couldn't get in. The flat above had a water leak that came through our ceiling, their emergency water contact number in the TA was just some national 9-5 Scottish Water thing that wasn't for emergencies. It took weeks to sort out, they just didn't care. Then at the end of the lease, on the last day they could contest it, they tried to keep half of our deposit for cleaning even though we left the place in a better state than we found it. Fought it and got it all back, but it took two months. I'm now looking at buying in the next 12-18 months and wouldn't even enquire about a property they advertise. by Casiofi (Thu 15th Apr 2021 9:45am)
  • That sounds exactly like the Cuntrywide incompetence I had to deal with. I hope you got your money back. by Casiofi (Fri 16th Apr 2021 7:57am)
  • Wild, it was the Merchant City lot that I dealt with and they were unbelievably incompetent! Glad they do their job at least some of the time. by Casiofi (Fri 16th Apr 2021 7:55am)
  • DVLA are bad for it. I had to order a cheque book to send payment in with a form to remove the private reg from a car. by Casiofi (Fri 9th Jul 2021 9:15pm)
  • Congrats! I made a couple of offers on ~£100k valued places at the start of the year, but even with offers stretched to my limit I couldn't keep up! Putting it off a couple of years to save a bit more. This gives me a bit of hope, thanks! by Casiofi (Wed 14th Jul 2021 8:50am)
  • No advice for you, but I feel your pain. I've put it off for a couple of years to build up a bit more cash in pocket to be able to go over asking price. One place we put an offer in was advertised at £99k, HR £110k, went for £130k. For a 1 bed off Cathcart road! It's madness for anyone who's not cash-rich or bankrolled. by Casiofi (Fri 30th Jul 2021 12:49pm)
  • Enjoy your shonky Musicmaster for that money! by Casiofi (Thu 19th Aug 2021 10:53pm)
  • Toro on Pollokshaws Road in Shawlands. Insanely good. by Casiofi (Fri 27th Aug 2021 8:15am)

  • There's a hairdressers on my street that has no customers in half the day, my girlfriend went in to get an appointment and they said they 'weren't looking to take on any new customers'. by Casiofi (Sat 13th Nov 2021 9:03pm)
  • Second for Conroys. Make That A Take put on punk shows there, they're a good crowd who are open to other genres in my experience. by Casiofi (Wed 6th Jul 2022 9:49pm)
  • Financed out their arses in most cases, I think the cost of energy this winter is really going to knock a load of people harder than they think. by Casiofi (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 5:13pm)
  • Yeah we had neighbours drilling into our shared wall last week, 9pm was our cutoff for having a word with them, they were sound though! Everyone is entitled to peaceful enjoyment of their home, nobody is expecting no noise outside of working hours but there's a bit of give and take. by Casiofi (Sat 6th Aug 2022 10:16pm)

  • Yeah, check your account balance to see if it is in credit/debit, mine was £66 up as that's how they paid it to Octopus. Don't know if it'll show up on bills or not. by Casiofi (Thu 20th Oct 2022 8:42am)
  • By its very nature, public transport needs to be integrated with active transport, because we can't all have a bus stop, train station or subway station on our doorstep. A large cycle network is key to having a functioning and flexible multimodal transport system, where you can cycle the first and final mile on rougher days and cycle the whole way when you want to. by Casiofi (Thu 29th Dec 2022 2:17pm)
  • It's bonkers. I put an offer in on a flat in Govanhill, asking offers over £99k, HR £110k, offered £117.5k and it went for £130k!! by Casiofi (Thu 2nd Feb 2023 1:49pm)
  • Second Lobo. Cracking wee place. Been a few times and never had a bad plate. by Casiofi (Tue 21st Feb 2023 11:06pm)
  • Bonus that if you don't feel like cycling back it's way easier to get on a bus/train with a Brompton*. *Other folding bike brands are available. Just not as fun. by Casiofi (Tue 28th Feb 2023 11:28pm)
  • Don't know how feasible this is for you, but how about cycling to your nearest station (if there is one 20-30 mins away) and taking the train for the second part of the commute? Skips the car all together. If the station doesn't have cycle parking you are happy with, you can usually take the bike on with you with minimal fuss. I can't recommend anywhere to park, but I can wholly recommend a Brompton that will fit nicely into the boot of your car and under a desk at work, negating any storage issues. If you don't already have a bike/racks etc. by Casiofi (Tue 28th Feb 2023 11:35pm)
  • I am very biased having just taken delivery of one, but they're an absolute blast. I got one because I have a small flat and nowhere to keep a bike. If your work does the cycle to work scheme you save like 25% off a new bike, spread over 12 months, which helps a lot. by Casiofi (Thu 2nd Mar 2023 7:29pm)

  • Four is taking the mick. One is pushing it imo, depends on how much space there is, I know my close doesn't have the space. Have a word, if they do nothing, buying your own bike locks is not expensive... by Casiofi (Thu 29th Jun 2023 8:15am)
