  • It's restaurants and bars that are expensive because they can be. Quality is poor in places such as The Corinthian and Metropolitan to name a few, with a lot of people who just go to flash cash and don't know too much about what they are actually getting. There are better areas that do more for less in Glasgow. Many good places in the area though. Decent places for a pint are Max's Bar with a good club (La Cheetah) downstairs. Boteco a wee Brazilian bar, Wetherspoons for tasty cheap ales/shit atmostphere, Stereo and Drury street near central are pretty good. Not too far from Merchant city are two breweries also, Drygate & Tennents which you should check out if you like beer. Fuck that commute but fuck living in Stirling. I say stay in Glasgow if you can though. Best city for miles. by Duckwithers (Thu 11th Jul 2019 7:30pm)
  • That Skybar is terrible. by Duckwithers (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:40pm)
  • The view's great but the management are insane as is the whole brand. Internally it's a mess and it shows. BBC wanted to do a documentary when their job advert blew up on twitter. They declined. by Duckwithers (Tue 6th Aug 2019 6:43pm)
  • How do people not get that its a recording? The guy sounds like a malfunctioning AI. The recording should be someone Scottish. We have been taught not to accept Scottish accents in media and it's a bunch of shite. Fuck the subway guy. by Duckwithers (Tue 3rd Sep 2019 12:15pm)
  • It's ridiculous that the guy thinks its good enough to plaster it absolutely everywhere. Who gave him permission? They are absolute shite. by Duckwithers (Tue 5th Nov 2019 12:34pm)
  • The frequency of seeing panda's tag is far too much for how little it speaks to you. The weight of the message (whatever that may be) conveyed by a cartoon gurn surely is not important enough for everyone to have to see them round every corner of their city. Are you saying that panda's tag has been commisioned around the city? If so I'm astounded. They are the biggest eyesore. by Duckwithers (Tue 5th Nov 2019 2:26pm)
  • Thanks, I was a little confused by Duckwithers (Wed 6th Nov 2019 11:21am)
  • Have you messed about with the saturation? Looks too bright and colourful by Duckwithers (Mon 30th Dec 2019 11:55am)
  • Check out the bar Drury Street on Drury st. Near central and see if you can get invovled with the games they have there. It's chock full of friendly nerds that will at least point you in the right direction. They defo play D&D and board games. Different groups dotted about. The food is also surprisingly decent, all made fresh (had to enquire as to why it was so good time and time again) and its in a basement. Wifi is fucked so I like that too. Goood luck! by Duckwithers (Mon 3rd Feb 2020 10:36pm)
  • Okay so I would recommend ignoring everything negative said here about cocktails and dive bars. Particularly that licensing laws are weird? They are not restrictive really at all. There's no American recipes we come across that we can't make for legal reasons. Glasgow has great cocktail bars, great bartenders and a generally great bar scene too. To name a few; Dakota Deluxe Jack's Bar - A hotel bar with high standards of service with bartenders given good direction and freedom with cocktails Kelvingrove Cafe - One of the best cocktail bars in the country, almost any bartender of talent who comes from Glasgow, passes through here at some point. Tiki Bar - Talented bartenders focussing on Tiki style drinks. The Dam - Cool bar making twists on modern classics, its a kind of faux dive rock bar leaning towards dutch influences and Genever. Tabac - Interesting twists on more old fashioned style drinks made by experienced bartenders Other bars serving impressive drinks; The Finnieston, The Gate, The Gannet, The Blytheswood Hotel, Wheesht, Ka Pao, Gin 71, Five March and Many more. As for good dive bars; Slouch is a rock bar on Bath street that serves the best late night food until 2pm and The Howlin' wolf down the street does a similar thing but with blues music. BLOC+ Is divey too and has cheap food and music Drury st. Is a dive bar too but this is where D&D and Board Game nerds hangout which I think is pretty cool. The food is also made fresh, isnt expensive and is really good. Theres a whole bunch more but I'll stop here. by Duckwithers (Sat 8th Feb 2020 1:15am)
  • All the bars I mentioned would make a good manhattan as it is only two ingredients and just needs to be stirred correctly. Personally I would ask for it sweet as sweet vermouth really pairs particularly well with Rye. KG cafe serves then in a Nick & Nora glass so i would go there personally. Although cocktails are more widespread in the US. On the whole, the quality is actually worse. Most bars use sweet and sour mix which is not fresh citrus and you cannot alter the balance of sour and sweet. Sweet and sour mix doesnt exist here. Also, Old Fashioneds from America are made with a different recipe that is not as good as the UK's. Fixed measures only applies to drinks with less that 3 ingredients which is why you will see zombies on sale in the UK. A manhattan at any of the bars i mentioned will be over 50ml of 40% abv. I suppose you're right, the 'Dive' bars i mentioned are just dive themed rather than the real american thing but I think you still get your fill of a similar vibe. by Duckwithers (Sat 8th Feb 2020 11:29am)
  • Yeah as the other dude said, Kelvingrove Cafe isnt the cafe of the museum. Don't go there for drinks. Its in Finnieston, next to The Gannet. Which is one of the best restaurant's in the city and what you get for what you pay is pretty amazing. This is an amazing area for restuarants, a quick list would also include; Alchemilla, The Finnieston, Gloriosa, Sila, 5 march. Check out Finnieston after the museum, theres even a nice park nearby. by Duckwithers (Sat 8th Feb 2020 11:40am)
  • The city centre is divey AF round many a corner. You can get a legal carry torch/flashlight with teeth on the front for breaking glass that is probably the best defensive object you can carry legally. Dont go about shouting that you're 17 and alone, keep yer wits aboot ye and walk around like you know the place better than home. by Duckwithers (Sun 9th Feb 2020 5:42pm)
  • I can get a taxi from St Georges road to the airport for £15.80 and do it through the app, so thats what you're up against I suppose. by Duckwithers (Sun 23rd Feb 2020 11:51am)
  • Here, anyone mind soap and water? by Duckwithers (Mon 16th Mar 2020 6:19pm)
  • Its utterly ridiculous. Do you know you can pay £100 to have him put your name on a wall somewhere? At one point of sauchiehall street you can see 3 of them at the same time. Who in the fuck tries to make their own brand and then advertise it all over the city with no ones permission and think its sound. Guy is a wanker and a parasite. by Duckwithers (Mon 4th May 2020 9:41am)
  • Good curries but quite antiquated imo. Feel like I'm back in colonial times. by Duckwithers (Mon 29th Jun 2020 11:57am)
  • KRK do some great nans that you can fry woth a little ghee in a pan if your making a curry yersel. by Duckwithers (Fri 10th Jul 2020 7:13pm)
  • I mean if you have a tandoor kickin' aboot the hoose you probably make better nan that this but they are nan's aye. In a sealed packet and they're half cooked so in a frying pan with a little butter on the outside just warms it up and browns the surfaces. They are better than any nans you get from the supermarket and quick but no where near nan from a restaurant. by Duckwithers (Sat 11th Jul 2020 10:25am)
  • I live in the city and have absolutely no idea what your on about. by Duckwithers (Sun 26th Jul 2020 11:14am)
  • If you think capitalism is the curreny best option, then you must research more options. There is more than just the linear right wing/left wing dichotomy were are commonly presented with. by Duckwithers (Sun 26th Jul 2020 11:26am)
  • If you look for it yourself then you are interested in finding out about potential alternatives and challenging the idea that capitalism is the best we can do. If I propose ideas, subject to my bias, then it becomes an argument of the feasibility of the ideas I give examples of in comparison to capitalism, which I don't wish to get into or endorse any particular ideas. That said, Technocracy is one example of something that is outside the limited spectrum of left/right. Resource Based economy is an concept that attempts to solve the waste of finite resources on the planet caused by capitalism and other systems. There are more, all have their flaws, but to say capitalism is the best we've got is short sighted. We can always do better. by Duckwithers (Sun 26th Jul 2020 11:03pm)

  • Blue dog is shite as well, overpriced drinks by under experienced and seemingly underpaid staff. Full of bams. Havent tried Ad Lib, wasnt going to. by Duckwithers (Fri 25th Dec 2020 10:31am)
  • SIX by Nico is just gimmicky shite anyway. It's a novelty restaurant that has people from itison convinced the food is the highest standard in Glasgow when it is far from it. Not writing it off completely but it's about as posh as The Corinthian. by Duckwithers (Sun 17th Jan 2021 7:06pm)
  • Women in Glasgow call men Doll all the fucking time! They certainly aren't callin ye 'bro' or 'mate'. If you get irritated by an older women calling you doll you really are a delicate wee number. I suspect however that you're talking shite to save face 🤷‍♂️ by Duckwithers (Tue 24th Aug 2021 11:03am)

  • Having concern for the well-being of other humans at the mercy of a huge bank's predatory practices is not merely carrying anger. How much of a boot licker do you have to be to refuse to see that? by Duckwithers (Wed 13th Oct 2021 2:15pm)
  • Hospitality so aye, pretty altruistic. Not that it is relevant at all to my comment in anyway, or the argument at large. Having some industries with flaws does not make others free from criticism. by Duckwithers (Wed 13th Oct 2021 2:26pm)
  • Yeah cool lets just divert this wherever you'd like to go. On yourself son. by Duckwithers (Wed 13th Oct 2021 2:42pm)
  • Don't know where you're going and Idgaf. Only interested in shoehorning you way into an irrelevant argument. You made this about my job for some reason despite the fact it is not relevant at all to what I was saying. You're not worth talking to because you're being stubborn, childish and toxic. ✌ by Duckwithers (Wed 13th Oct 2021 2:56pm)
  • Aye but then the prices go up and everyone gives bad reviews. I work in a restaurant of highly skilled front of house staff that all have 5+ years experience. Our tips are substantially more than average because of our experience. If we were to add that to the price of the food to pay wages to match our current earnings, not only would it be ultimately the exact same bill you'd be paying, but it would difficult to know where to inflate prices and do so honestly. Good service has value, it is also discretionary if added to the bill and restaurant managers and owners are at the mercy of tipping culture just as you are. Saying they can just "pay their staff a living wage" does not scratch the surface of what is a complex situation that no one has much control over. And it really simply arises out of the desire to give staff something extra for the fact the had an undeniably positive impact on an experience your were anxious to enjoy. I took my gf out for dinner last night for her birthday, the server was class, very attentive good chat, caring. Her service was worth good money and it deserves its own item on the bill imho. by Duckwithers (Mon 1st Nov 2021 12:01pm)

  • This is the answer. Only with very dry climates does it work, as it causes you to sweat, and in that climate sweat is evaporated super quick and off sets the heat from the tea. Anywhere humid doesnt get the same effect. by Duckwithers (Tue 19th Jul 2022 8:42am)
  • Absolutely need to check out the food at Max's bar during the day. That kitchen has been consistently sling decent scran for years for cheap and nobody seems to know about it. Heaving at night, dead during the day but the scran is class, always got a poutine on, good quality, hunners of it and it's like 6-7 quid. Also do soup and sandwiches... by Duckwithers (Tue 9th Aug 2022 3:32am)
  • Well hopefully it doesn't turn out like Shoreditch in London, where all the graffiti has become adverts. Fucking disgrace. by Duckwithers (Fri 6th Jan 2023 9:39am)
  • Trackers on the bus work fine for me, do you have the app? Where you can see the bus moving on a map? by Duckwithers (Wed 1st Feb 2023 10:56am)
  • Yeah I was just checking cause its literally the first time in my life i can fairly consistently catch a bus now using that. But yeah the bus company is fucking POS. Unreliable bastards since I was born running a monopoly on the buses here and have actively lobbied against progress for transport in Glasgow through the years. I would happily burn them to the ground. by Duckwithers (Wed 1st Feb 2023 11:32am)

  • Honestly WTF are you all on about? Did you actually read the article? She was on probation, she was continually fucking late and got fired. That is not even a news story. Her pay was delayed for asking for thousands of pounds she wasnt due and then tried to charge them for the delay! She's a fucking rocket! I am 100% up for nailing bad employers to the the cross but this is just complete pish. by Duckwithers (Tue 12th Sep 2023 11:35am)
  • That's fair that they did not need to delay on the payment and I'd be interested to actually see what other employees have to say. Wouldn't say its cut and dry from the available info. by Duckwithers (Tue 12th Sep 2023 1:58pm)

  • What is the problem with driving a car to a train station that goes into the town? The people that live in the city centre are living within areas that have been high and pollution which has a greatly adverse affect on their health if they are always living and working in that space. by Duckwithers (Wed 15th Nov 2023 3:24pm)
  • Well i hope you can appreciate the value to the resident of the area despite the inconveniences you experienced. Thousands of people live in the LEZ zones and it means something to not have to have your life shortened by something that can be fixed via more careful planning, even if it seems disorganised in its infancy. by Duckwithers (Wed 15th Nov 2023 5:24pm)
