  • Yes, they've given us the 6 months. Without going into all of the boring details, we were basically pissed off that we'd been paying rent to live in this damaged flat for over 2 years without the repairs being completed, only to then get kicked out so that either 1) the landlord could then do the repairs and profit from the housing boom, or 2) re-rent the property because we'd become too troublesome tenants. And in the process of fighting this we discovered a tonne of other dodgy stuff the letting agents had done (lying to us, not registering the deposit for months, charging a holding fee etc.) and were just thought that the system relies on people going quietly. So we decided not to! Hopefully can raise awareness for others in the same (or worse) situation and maybe link up some people with help that is accessible. by FirstLetsYouDown (Wed 12th May 2021 8:15am)
  • Hi, yes we've tried all sorts! Had environmental health out numerous times, had a notice put on the property etc., all to no effect. Also went the tribunal route from February last year but still no resolution as they won't visit to do the inspection due to COVID, and we will be evicted before they do. The landlord has refused to engage or speak with us at any point during our tenancy, so we are forced to target the letting agents as their representative. The letting agents also did a lot wrong in terms of not lodging the deposit on time, charging a holding fee, misleading us, and generally being as obstructive as possible. We basically feel as though we have no choice but to pursue direct action as being patient and nice, and following the 'proper' routes hasn't got us anywhere by FirstLetsYouDown (Wed 12th May 2021 11:29am)
  • Don't see that being a problem! by FirstLetsYouDown (Wed 12th May 2021 11:24am)
  • That all sounds like good advice, thanks a lot. Luckily we already have our own lock on the property as when we moved in the door wasn't secure and the landlord refused to pay for it so we got it done ourselves. We are currently witholding rent in a separate account and will pay it back if they agree to a rent rebate for the time we spent with two damaged rooms and an extension to our eviction notice. Though this does seem to have increased the urgency with which they respond, it has also meant they tell us we are 'illegalling witholding rent' at every given opportunity, so swings and roundabouts really. I think Living Rent have emailed all the local MSPs, if one of them came on Friday that would be impressive! by FirstLetsYouDown (Wed 12th May 2021 8:08pm)
