  • Yeh I mean look at the housing situation in Glasgow, take for example the City Center. No other choice for exercise than to go to these parks sometimes. Nearest one to me is Glasgow Green, abide by social distancing rules and it’s fine. by IrishMamba1992 (Sun 5th Apr 2020 6:10pm)
  • I was sure that they removed the whole tenancy agreement thing that says you have to stay at a property for a certain period of time. So the 6 months thing doesn’t sound right by IrishMamba1992 (Tue 14th Apr 2020 8:58am)
  • Would appear so, guess there’s excess drink for them that will have an expiry from their taps. I’d guess they follow what a pub in Belfast is doing and putting them in plastic pint sized cups and then delivering them safely. by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 16th Apr 2020 6:04pm)
  • Drinking a pint is significantly better than a bottle or can. The pour is different say for a Guinness, so getting a can of that isn’t really comparable to an actual pint. Just big taste differences I guess! by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 16th Apr 2020 6:01pm)

  • Mary Seacole would be a famous woman we could think about. She’s a part cerribbean/part Scottish nurse that saved a lot of lives during the Crimean War. Not necessarily big impact on Glasgow though as you asked but certainly a famous person of colour in Scottish history. • Me and my partner just reserved a plot outside Glasgow. I’m of the opinion that the market won’t effect new builds overly aside from the building times. Depends what you’re going for though. Show homes etc are closed but beginning to reopen as well as builders returning. It’s probably not great for viewing houses. But based on what I’ve been hearing a lot of people (myself included) have saved a lot of money during lockdown so find ourselves in a good position now. Also fuck my upstairs neighbours by IrishMamba1992 (Mon 15th Jun 2020 8:44am)

  • A shame for people that don’t have gardens that are socially distancing. The rest are obviously fanny’s breaking the rules by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 25th Jun 2020 7:18pm)
  • I guess it’s hard to say, I’d imagine a portion of those people are very local to it. I’m city centre so I have Glasgow green and that’s really it, so if that’s too busy I have to go Alexandra park or somewhere. So it’s a shame for those close to the park who are “local” by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 25th Jun 2020 7:42pm)
  • I’m in that position in a high rise, thankfully I’m a bit of a heatphobe so can’t stand these temperatures, but there’s certain days during lockdown it’s been bad by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 25th Jun 2020 7:52pm)

I’ve been complaining to them for months and nothing has happened, did they remove the tenant? by IrishMamba1992 (Tue 8th Sep 2020 9:53pm)
  • Schools are not babysitting services. Transmission at schools effects the teachers as well, if teachers are being put in danger (which they are) then this needs to be looked at too. by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 10th Sep 2020 6:12pm)
  • Agreed children are there to learn but if we do enter another lockdown due to the rising cases then we need to look at better safety precautions in schools. Currently the systems just aren’t there to protect teachers if things get worse. With regards to their learning, there is suitable timetables for blended learning that will really benefit the young people, especially with a significant amount of secondary children being given iPads recently. I personally am in favour of this blended approach with pupils coming in certain days etc. I also don’t think replacing teachers who don’t want to expose themselves need “replacing”, that is a very harsh attitude to have for people protecting themselves. I’m also not entirely sure about a glut of PGDE students needing jobs either when they are in jobs either as probationers or on supply. by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 10th Sep 2020 6:26pm)
  • Just to preface, I really don’t believe in another lockdown, just interested in protecting teachers, I did not once imply any other profession was in less danger or less exposed than anyone else so not sure why you brought that up. Another lockdown would ruin the economy, so I don’t think it should happen at all, just make sure people are safe. The strategies are in place for blended learning to be of a real benefit to young people. My only issue with it is the emphasis it puts on them to be in charge of their learning and obviously not learning social skills etc is an issue for primary. i personally think that because the young people would come in 1/2 days instead of not at all like during lockdown that this model could be successful. As they’re seeing their teacher at least once that week to ask why work is not being done etc. I agree with your points about internet connection etc which are very valid and well put. Schools opened during lockdown for these young people who lacked electricity etc but not many showed up and the schools ended up just shutting anyway. (There’s probably a deeper issue there, depending on catchment area). Regarding internet, I put forward an idea for dongles to be distributed to young people needing internet access, but again was financially feasible but the discussions were there. Appreciate the discussion, your points are certainly valid. by IrishMamba1992 (Thu 10th Sep 2020 7:13pm)

  • Really really unfortunate for not just Glasgow as a whole but the British Basketball community, it’s a small enough community as is without this stuff. Glasgow has been getting worse since lock down number 1, with people in the city centre, so I really hope it was just some junkies in the town and not near where they live. by IrishMamba1992 (Fri 5th Feb 2021 11:15am)

  • I work in the area, and commute via the train station every day. It’s a rough area if I’m being honest. Depends how tolerant you are, lots of football stuff naturally and just general deprivation. Also been a Covid hot spot for the last year or so and the area next to the Gallowgate is one of the most deprived areas in Scotland. Obviously location is great and lots of access to nice green areas like Glasgow Green. Depends what you’re looking for really by IrishMamba1992 (Wed 19th May 2021 2:14pm)

  • Other than the stuff mentioned by others. Lots of stuff you can for free too. There’s sort of a slave trade walk you can do in Glasgow City Center, a tour of Glasgow’s roots in the slave trade that I recommend to people as a history buff. by IrishMamba1992 (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 10:58am)

  • I go to Dumfries once or twice a month. Partner is from there and I’m getting married there. The town centre is pretty much dead but it’s a lovely place as people have mentioned. 1) local community are lovely and the pubs are very welcoming. Stunning local surroundings. People generally don’t move to Dumfries. A lot that live there are born and don’t leave. 2) as mentioned above the town centre is pretty dead, not many new businesses but there are lots of little cafes and bars but I think a lot of the locals probably take up those jobs. There is one McDonald’s you could look into I guess. You could try Moffat maybe for a job too. 3) I wouldn’t travel down from Glasgow on a daily basis unless you drive. Even then I wouldn’t do that with petrol prices. by IrishMamba1992 (Mon 13th Jun 2022 10:57am)
