  • I am gay and have lived in Glasgow for thirteen years. In spite of its reputation for progressive politics, Glasgow is definitely more homophobic than where I am from (Cheshire/South Manchester). Glasgow is definitely about 20 years behind in social attitudes. by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 1:11am)
  • I am sorry, but I disagree, and I have lived here for 13 years. Based on my personal experiences as a gay man, Glasgow is more homophobic than Manchester. There's a rough lad culture here that isn't tolerant to people acting gay. You get it in England as well, but not as strongly. I would not like to be a gay kid growing up in Glasgow or its satellites, e.g., Motherwell, Paisley. My best friend is homophobic, a typical Glasgow lad, and I can't even tell him I am gay. I never experienced this in England growing up. by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 1:18am)
  • Glasgow is a WORLD CLASS city of architecture. Glasgow has some outstanding buildings, old and modern. Not just MacIntosh, but also Alexander Thompson, Gilbert Scott, Jack Coia, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, and some exquisite domestic and tenemental architecture. Glasgow's architectural heritage is underrated due to the economic deprivation associated with the city on account of de-industrialisation and depopulation. Glasgow has unfairly earned the reputation of being the rough city, and Edinburgh the elegant city. This falsehood is perpetuated by many Glaswegians who are inverted snobs and who are reluctant to take pride in beauty of their own city. Glasgow is self-loathing and needs to have more confidence in herself. The place has been left to decay and too many in Glasgow are indifferent about this. There are far too many abandoned, derelict, and disheveled buildings and plots. Tragically, a lot of these are left to ruin, and then mysteriously catch on fire. by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 2:07am)
  • I assumed that Lanarkshire/Renfrewshire would be the same as Glasgow for it, but actually, I wouldn't know, because I have hardly been to those places. What is it about Glasgow I wonder? by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 2:13am)
  • Gay scene is also fucking shit. No wonder so many Scottish gays move to England when they turn 18. by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 2:10am)
  • Ah football. That's the real religion in Glasgow. Glaswegians worship the game. It is more popular than Catholicism and Presbyterianism by a mile, and it has been this way for a long time. by ManyReason738 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 6:32pm)
  • Glasgow Caledonian University could buy it and use it for lecture theatres and teaching and office space. by ManyReason738 (Fri 19th Aug 2022 9:53pm)
  • It definitely will 'accidentally' set on fire. They should rename Glasgow Fire City. by ManyReason738 (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 1:14am)
  • The main building at the University of Glasgow was designed by Gilbert Scott. It was built in the late 19th century, but a lot people think it is medieval. Have a walk around the quadrangle and pretend you are at Hogwarts! by ManyReason738 (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 1:12am)
  • Well it's true, it is quite wet here. by ManyReason738 (Thu 25th Aug 2022 12:41am)
  • I assume he has refugee or asylum seeker status? I highly recommend he attend the ESOL school at St Aloysius in Garnethill. He can learn English there and get help with lots of other things as well. There is at least one Vietnamese student at the school. It is free and he will get the opportunity to speak with a preist if he wants to. Make sure he is vaccinated before he comes. He can just turn up. He should come to the Ogilve centre which is next to the church at 10am on a weekday during term time. Lessons last until noon. by ManyReason738 (Wed 31st Aug 2022 6:23pm)
