  • Not in Glasgow but bubbaQ in Edinburgh is quality if you fancy a day trip over to the capital! by MathsOnShrooms (Tue 28th Jun 2022 9:35pm)
  • I passed there 1st time back in May. Recommend you familiarise yourself with the back roads near the fort. They're national speed limit but ye defo canny go that quick on them, they're daft wee country roads and can catch ye off guard. Edn road has a bus lane along it, just make sure you read the times of operation before ye go in it. It also changes from 30-40 at a certain point too. Overall quite an easy route I'd say. by MathsOnShrooms (Thu 30th Jun 2022 12:40am)
  • Even as a rangers fan I absolutely detest it. If I'm being honest I don't think a lot of people who "follow" the walks realise what they're supporting by following it. Just shows how ignorant a lot of folk still are in Glasgow. by MathsOnShrooms (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 12:39pm)
  • I used to follow it when I was younger as all my rangers supporting pals were doing it too, it was a day oot for us. It wasn't until I grew up and realised what it actually stands for and now take absolutely nothing to do with it. Back then I just saw it as a way to support rangers but reflecting back it's the opposite of that, it tarnishes the club which is a shame. I was brought up Catholic, my family still practice their faith, so I'm glad I learned from my mistakes and don't participate anymore. It seems there's are more rangers fans like me now who reject the OO, so hopefully the next generation of fans follow suit too. by MathsOnShrooms (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 2:51pm)
  • The Palais' no bad, liked going there even when it was The Dutchess. by MathsOnShrooms (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 2:06pm)
  • I just graduated with an MEng (civil engineering) from strathclyde this summer. A lot of interviewers for grad jobs told me they specifically look out for UoG and Strathclyde graduates so I personally wouldn't worry about future job applications etc. Personally really liked Strathclyde, they have fantastic connections with companies with staff forwarding job opportunities onto the students constantly. Some of the staff are amazing and definitely go the extra mile for you if you reach out - one actually sorted me out with a summer placement as they knew I was struggling to find anything due to my prior work commitments, so shout-out to them!! Only thing that bothered me was how shit the communication was between staff and students, no idea if it's just the civil department or a university wide problem though. Wish you all the best with your future studies! by MathsOnShrooms (Mon 4th Jul 2022 9:41pm)
  • I'm sure I read somewhere that the old all saints store on Buchanan Street is going to be rented out to LUSH for something daft like £900,000 a year. How can smaller businesses keep up with those prices? by MathsOnShrooms (Fri 8th Jul 2022 9:50pm)
  • I'm not 100% sure but I think they wanted workshop space? Other stores do like party things where you make bath bombs and the sorts, I don't think any in Glasgow offer that yet. by MathsOnShrooms (Sat 9th Jul 2022 12:50pm)
  • Nic's NYC deli, there was a shop in town but when I looked it up it seems to have moved to Byres road, near botanical gardens. They do cracking doughnuts as well. by MathsOnShrooms (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:53pm)
  • I live quite close to the "new road" (Clyde gateway) and I hear them every night too. Police did fuck all when I phoned them to complain, said they'd patrol around which stopped them for a day or two but they're back at it again. I sleep with my windows open and I've had to resort to closing them at night - which isn't ideal with this heat we've had lately. by MathsOnShrooms (Fri 15th Jul 2022 7:25pm)
  • I just graduated with an MEng in Civil engineering from Strathclyde this summer with distinction, I had 0 summer placements/internships as covid halted a lot of it for me tbh. I landed a grad job that I start in September and had a total of 5 interviews and/or offers. No one seemed too bothered about my lack of experience and let me discuss some coursework that I done to show off my skills and knowledge etc. The civil department at strath held a few job fairs and stuff which I found very helpful - it let me speak with companies and ask what they're looking for in CV's, cover letters, interview tips and the sorts. If you get the opportunity to attend any I'd sign yourself up. Also, your grade isn't an issue at all, that's still a 2:1 or a merit if you continue with your masters which is fantastic and allows you to get chartered in the future - a company mentioned to me that a master's degree was dersierable to even get into their grad scheme. I personally suffered from imposter syndrome during my time at university as I didn't think I was "smart" enough and deserving to be there. It sounds like you're in a similar frame of mind but you just have to remind yourself that you got accepted into Strathclyde on your own merit and do deserve to be there :) by MathsOnShrooms (Sat 16th Jul 2022 10:21pm)
  • Just graduated as a civil engineer from strathclyde and I bagged myself a grad job that's still based in Glasgow with a decent company. My starting salary is around 28k. I also had 0 intern/summer placement experience, I found applying for grad jobs much easier than summer placements tbh. I didn't even feel like this did me a disservice during interviews, they were very interested in my university projects and dissertation. Strathclyde have fantastic connections with companies - I had a lecturer email job vacancies every week or two. I'd recommend getting your masters, it seems there's a push for students to get their masters so they can become chartered in the future. The company I'm going to work for want to get me chartered within 5 years - and they will fully support me through the process. I also suffered from a bit of imposter syndrome during uni as all my friends were getting summer placements and more grad job interviews and I felt I wasn't smart enough etc. But it all worked out in the end, just have to believe in yourself a little :) by MathsOnShrooms (Mon 25th Jul 2022 11:41am)
  • Ah didn't realise! I hope you're doing much better regarding uni stuff, it really is though being a uni student just now. by MathsOnShrooms (Mon 25th Jul 2022 11:44am)
  • Yeah I stupidly didn't take out any breakdown cover, lessons learned I suppose! Will give them a call, thanks! I'm going to try get it a jump start later on today and try take it to any garage that will have a look at it. by MathsOnShrooms (Sun 7th Aug 2022 12:07pm)
  • Nah used it last night. I got a new battery put in it around 2 months ago, so worried it's the alternator or something. Going to ask my neighbor when they get home for a jump start. by MathsOnShrooms (Sun 7th Aug 2022 12:06pm)
  • Aye a think there's something draining my battery and just need to try get that sorted. There's a chance it's my black box (insurance) but don't know for definite. I'm getting a jump start later on and I have it booked in somewhere for tomorrow. I need to find out why my battery is dying so quickly. by MathsOnShrooms (Sun 7th Aug 2022 5:28pm)
  • Nah not yet but got a jump start and the cars been fine since. Going to get my battery and other components checked next week as I'm worried it'll just go flat again. by MathsOnShrooms (Wed 10th Aug 2022 8:17pm)
  • I never left anything on but my blackbox is connected to my battery and I have a suspicion that it's draining my battery. It went flat when I left it lying for 2 weeks a few months back and I need to leave it lying for a week next month and I'm worried it'll go flat and I'm stranded at the airport. I've also been told to check the alternator, just incase that's causing issues but I have 0 car knowledge so hoping the garage can shine some light on my battery issues next week! by MathsOnShrooms (Wed 10th Aug 2022 8:35pm)
  • Chatelherault country park just over in Hamilton. There's a few walking routes and I think there's also a 10km circular route too. by MathsOnShrooms (Tue 13th Sep 2022 4:46pm)
  • Athena glasgow tweeted that they were looking for senior players 3 days ago, I think they're based in springburn by MathsOnShrooms (Sun 18th Dec 2022 10:04pm)
  • I'm supposed to finish up tomorrow but had a few days of annual leave that I have left over and finished up on Tuesday there. by MathsOnShrooms (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 12:27pm)
  • There's a 5s/7s amateur league in Glasgow but I can't seem to find much info regarding it. I know Cathkin Blazes and BSC Glasgow Woman both take part, could try contacting those teams. by MathsOnShrooms (Thu 18th May 2023 2:51pm)
  • Ross Hall hospital - I paid £395 last November. Had my scan and results within 8 days of phoning them. by MathsOnShrooms (Sat 20th May 2023 8:56pm)
  • It was either that or a ~6 month waiting list on the NHS which isn't ideal if you really need one. by MathsOnShrooms (Tue 23rd May 2023 7:22am)
