  • Slightly related - if you're on a train from Partick To Hyndland, try and have a look at the building just before the bridge over Dumbarton Road, just as the train leaves the platform. Every bridge on the railway is numbered so it can be reported if there's an incident at it. There's a yellow number plate on the building that says "Dumbarton Rd OB, Patrick". I laugh every time I see it. I work for the railway, I'm not a mad spotter cunt. by No_Country_Members (Wed 18th Mar 2020 11:35pm)

  • Brilliant, might have to buy one of these. Saw Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pantera in there, to name but a few. My Da used to live in the tenements that would be just to the left of your pic and said when there was a gig on he couldny hear his telly so he used to just switch it off and sit at the window watching everybody stoatin' about. by No_Country_Members (Thu 4th Jun 2020 12:17am)
  • I'm a driver who works out of the Central, even during the day it's mental. I used to go for a walk on my break when this all started, not anymore, it's like the wild west. by No_Country_Members (Sun 28th Jun 2020 5:14pm)
  • I done it old school, getting a job elsewhere in the railway then applying when I was in. Keep an eye on the Scotrail/Abellio, Avanti, TransPennine websites. They advertise a few times a year for drivers. There's plenty of info online about what's required and the recruitment process too. I can also attempt to answer any questions, although I've been a driver for a long time now so the process is undoubtedly different from when I went through it. It is a good job, as a Scotrail driver I only work a 4 day week, Sundays are O/T. Its a good gig mate, definitely. by No_Country_Members (Sun 28th Jun 2020 8:48pm)
  • Saw an ad on the railway a while back about pre-loading a smart card with 10 tickets for the price of 9. As far as I'm led to believe it'll work like a carnet ticket like on the Paris Metro where you can use the tickets when you need them, so 10 tickets could last a weeks commute but if you're part time then you could stretch it out over longer. Dunno if that'd be any good for a situation like yours. by No_Country_Members (Fri 17th Jul 2020 2:53pm)
  • Done mate. With love from the beautiful city of Scotland xx by No_Country_Members (Thu 20th Aug 2020 12:34am)
  • My Dad grew up in London Road, had a wee newsagents shop there that he took over from his own Dad, met my Mum who worked in her Mums shop on London Road too. They moved to the East End, where I grew up and after my parents divorced he moved back to Calton and then just off Shettleston Road where he stayed until he passed unexpectedly around a year ago. He was a fiercely proud Glaswegian, loved every aspect of the city and always kept any scraps of newspapers that reported the city in a good light. When he stayed in Calton he rented his house from Thenue Housing and I don't think a day went by when he told me the story of Thenue, St Mungo, and the Glasgow coat of arms amongst other stories. There's no real point to this post really, but this image reminded me of him and as I said, it's almost a year since he passed. Thanks for the memories. by No_Country_Members (Mon 21st Sep 2020 5:26pm)

  • Won't your council tax be a bit cheaper too? We're in North Lanarkshire and if our house was in Glasgow the council tax would be mental. by No_Country_Members (Wed 21st Oct 2020 12:09pm)
  • Can't be fucked with them, my dug's going mental trying to dial herself into the carpet. It's fucking relentless too, day, night, pishing rain, all the fucking time. Tried to take the dug out for a wee wander and got about 20ft before she turned tail and dragged me home. Was honestly thinking I'm gonny need to email an MP and see where we stood with them. I also reckon Tescos, Asda and the others have a responsibility towards the communities they serve. There's no way they make that much profit on them and no cunt needs fireworks 4 weeks before Nov 5th. I know the dafties will still get them from corner shops and other places but I reckon the supermarkets should pack it in. by No_Country_Members (Wed 4th Nov 2020 10:49pm)
  • My missus spent 4 days in the Princess Royal maternity before our daughter was born, and while I spent as much time as I could with her sometimes to give her a break I'd go and sit in the cathedral. It's a beautiful piece of architecture and such a nice place to just sit. Lovely pic πŸ‘ by No_Country_Members (Fri 6th Nov 2020 7:05pm)

  • Took my dogs for a walk at 4, cunt walked to his car, looked at me with my dogs, got a big fuck off box out the boot and went round the back of his house. Not 2 minutes later one of those multi-shot fireworks goes off for about 3 minutes directly above me. I honestly thought my big dog was gonny have a heart attack, she actually scraped a claw off trying to get away, my wee dog wrapped his lead around my legs so we had to stand there, right under this fucking barrage until I could untangle them and go straight back home. Nae point arguing with these clowns, if they had a brain they'd be dangerous. by No_Country_Members (Sun 7th Mar 2021 11:08pm)
  • Sat my CBT 2 years ago, got a taste for it and started proper lessons just as lockdown hit and couldn't do fuck all. Phoned up earlier today to retake my CBT and get my big bike licence as the cost in the long run balances out but that big bike buzz was too good to ignore. But I totally get why folk are content on a 125, great mpg and still nippy. by No_Country_Members (Mon 12th Apr 2021 7:49pm)

  • Had a woman/girl pull the passcom, to stop the train in an emergency, to tell me the sink in the lavvy had no water. I told her I was trying to drive the train, and she actually whined back "but, but, my hands are all soapy and I don't know how to get it off" A woman who downed a full bottle of red wine then spewed it all over the seats the just walking off like nothing happened. A guy at Argyle St throwing a running punch at my train as I left to try and stop the train. 2 guys fishing off a viaduct and when I blew the horn they pulled their hoods up and kept fishing, like it made them invisible. A girl asking where the train was going and me replying "where are you going?" cos it's easier to work out that way. She said it was none of my business but if I had to know then she was going to her boyfriends house. A whole train full of football fans going nuts, singing, drinking etc and as I headed towards Wishaw someone pulled the emergency stop. I went back to reset it and there were people everywhere, on the floor, bleeding, beer dripping from the ceiling. Hadn't moved 100ft and it was pulled again. In the cab we have an over-ride on some trains so we can stop in a more appropriate place, so I hit the button, came to a stand at Wishaw and opened the doors. around 40-50 got off and this woman came to my door, screaming at me "why'd you open the doors, they hit my brother!" Told her we were at a station, had to open the doors, plus I wasn't going to sit there keeping them on the train, they would've wrecked the train. I asked her why they hit her brother and she said about 10 or 15 of them started singing 'show us yer tits" and she told them all "don't talk to me like that or my brother will leather you." There are way more that I just can't think of right now. by No_Country_Members (Tue 24th Aug 2021 3:00pm)
  • Just adverts online on the freight websites or Scotrail website. Fair bit of studying involved but it's not a bad job. by No_Country_Members (Tue 24th Aug 2021 5:28pm)
  • Absolutely. Most employers have a dedicated training school which trains people right through, whether they have railway experience or not. by No_Country_Members (Tue 24th Aug 2021 6:49pm)
