  • Honestly, for that price you can live pretty much anywhere in the city as long as you're willing to share with a flatmate. There is also the option of going for a studio / bedsit flat in the west-end (room & kitchen). Have a look around Glasgow Gumtree & if you find anything of interest, let me know and I can tell you about the area / if it's a good deal. by RoboticDance (Fri 22nd Feb 2019 9:34am)

  • I was walking about Partick with green & white trainers on (not even a massive Celtic fan, the colours were nice) and I was expecting someone to try something. It's shite on Old Firm day. Too many pissed up dafties looking for a fight. by RoboticDance (Sun 31st Mar 2019 10:08pm)

  • Are there any decent Scottish lagers? Serious question. by RoboticDance (Mon 13th May 2019 7:54pm)
  • Where are you staying currently? You should immediately present as homeless at your local casework team. They'll be able to provide you with info on how to claim housing benefit and will source temporary accommodation for you. I'll be honest, you might end up in a hostel but there's a good chance you'll end up with your own temp flat. From there on, you can apply to housing associations, and you'll be priority due to homeless status. Get to the casework team pronto. Edit: Just read that you're in college. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you might have to drop out if you're looking to claim housing benefit. Temp flats cost a fortune and I doubt you could afford the monthly payments on a bursary or loan. by RoboticDance (Mon 13th May 2019 8:06pm)
  • No worries. Here's a list of the casework teams: http://www.ghn.org.uk/hip/homeless-or-about-to-be/am-i-homeless/your-rights/community-casework-teams/ Go to the one closest to you. You don't have to make an appointment, just drop in and explain that you're on the verge of being homeless and need accommodation. by RoboticDance (Mon 13th May 2019 8:48pm)
  • St. Mungo's is good. Not a big fan of Innis & Gunn to be honest. I know I've probably not tried the right ones, but the Drygate beers always taste too "flowery" and end up giving me the boak. by RoboticDance (Mon 13th May 2019 8:54pm)

  • They're a con. I was applying for IT jobs left and right a while back and got a call from an advisor from 'The Training Room'. Long story short, they were wanting me to pay a few grand to enrol in their program where an advisor would assist me with training and eventually finding a job in IT. The cunt actually had the cheek to ask if I had a credit card I could max out to pay for it. Search Google for 'Training Room Reddit' and you'll get some stories. Don't do it. by RoboticDance (Mon 17th Jun 2019 8:43pm)

  • There's tonnes of great services that fill these requirements already operating in Glasgow. However, since SAMH was taking over and no longer works how it used to, a huge gap has been left and there are no outreach mental support services for homeless people now. by RoboticDance (Fri 28th Jun 2019 11:06am)

  • DELETED As others have mentioned, it's Springburn, Sighthill etc. No one talks about it cause there's barely any uni students or trendy young professionals that live there. I'm not optimistic that it'll change in the future as it feels as though the North is segregated from the rest of the city due to the motorway. Maybe when that new residential development is finished in Sighthill there'll be more interest in the area due to how close it is to the city centre. But for now, the North has been left to rot and the council couldn't give less of a fuck. by RoboticDance (Tue 11th Aug 2020 5:14pm)

  • Don't listen to them. That's actually quite a decent part of Springburn and you have easy access to the City Centre with bus and train routes. Also, as you've mentioned, you'll be right next to Tesco and a massive Home Bargains. Your car will be fine too. Honestly, this sub is ridiculous. I bet not one of them have stepped foot in Springburn. Also, not everyone can afford to rent in Dennistoun and all of these other ridiculous suggestions. Dennistoun is not cheap, despite what this sub will lead you to believe. by RoboticDance (Thu 1st Oct 2020 3:55pm)

  • I recently went to the Loading Bay. I cannot skate for shit, and was surrounded by folk who were amazing. I stood there in awe like an idiot looking at some of them. Point is, no one cared that I couldn't skate. No one stared and were all busy doing their own thing. I wasn't there to socialise but I'm sure you could find like minded people there. They also do tutorials, which I'll defo need to look into booking lol. by RoboticDance (Sun 1st Nov 2020 8:36pm)

  • She will need to contact the local casework team & declare that she is going to be made homeless. Contact your local one: https://www.yoursupportglasgow.org/directory/providerlist/455 It shouldn't be an issue that she stays with you until they source a tenancy for her. Either way, she should explain that she is vulnerable & may not be able to cope in a communal living situation. They'll probably request medical confirmation from her GP to support this. by RoboticDance (Wed 4th Nov 2020 10:36am)

  • Hey, yep exactly the same as the OP. It's not far from where they were viewing their flat. Not a dodgy area at all imo. If you were to walk up past the shopping centre on a Saturday night then it might be a bit edgy, but honestly not that bad. You have the same advantages as I mentioned before: Easy access to buses and trains, close to the City Centre and a retail park with a massive Tesco and Home Bargains. The only truly dodgy bits of Springburn are when you get up near Balgrayhill flats and the surrounding area. You'll be miles away from there. by RoboticDance (Thu 5th Nov 2020 8:04pm)
  • I'm not familiar with London but aye, most likely. Just people getting on with it, outside of a few streets where it can be a bit mental lol. When I was growing up it definitely felt worse than today, but not sure if that was due to my age and being a guy. Felt like just walking through some places was me declaring a challenge / fight. Thankfully don't have to deal with that shite now that I'm older ha. Good luck with the viewing. It's a quiet wee bit. by RoboticDance (Thu 5th Nov 2020 8:53pm)
  • Aye you won't get a decent boozer up that way unfortunately. Not somewhere to call your local anyway. Best thing you can do is jump into the City Centre or get a train to Partick / West End for a decent drink. by RoboticDance (Thu 5th Nov 2020 8:58pm)

  • Not a chance they can afford a flat share whilst on UC. Think you only get around £370 a month (for over 25s). OP, look into applying to housing associations. It'll be difficult to get a flat with Partick HA or Charing X HA, but you should look up GHA as they're citywide. If it really is bad living with your parents, you can always present as homeless. However, there is a chance you'd be sent to a hostel or B&B type situation. Edit: Also, you'll be entitled to Housing Benefit / Element. You can even try looking into private lets that accept DSS, but make sure to check the local housing allowance of the area otherwise your Housing Benefit will be capped and you'll have to pay the difference. by RoboticDance (Fri 6th Nov 2020 5:35pm)

  • To be fair, I've had a letter from Bulb saying that engineers are in the area to fit smart meters. Your guy sounds a bit dodgy though. by RoboticDance (Tue 17th Nov 2020 8:27am)

  • DELETED Everywhere I've ordered from Just Eat. Fuckin bogging food despite the good reviews. I'll stick to the old classics instead. by RoboticDance (Wed 18th Nov 2020 5:05pm)
  • Same places? What I meant by the old classics are places that I've been using for years. Every time I've ventured outwith and tried somewhere new on Just Eat, it has been rank. I'm not even fussy with food, but undercooked to fuck pizzas and watery curries have been a trend with me. by RoboticDance (Wed 18th Nov 2020 5:47pm)

  • I was with Ebico before they went under and now with Bulb. No complaints here. Years ago I used to live in a bedsit and the landlord was set on me sticking with Scottish Power. Bastards were charging me £70 per month (no gas in the flat). Tried disputing it but never got anywhere. OP, sometimes energy companies will pay your debt to get you to switchover to them. Have a look around. by RoboticDance (Wed 25th Nov 2020 10:35am)
