  • I'll give that a look when I'm on the internet this weekend by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Sep 2021 10:54pm)
  • It's a huge struggle, I got an automated message from a Landlord saying he had over 60 requests in 24 hours. He was only open to email suggestions but said he was very strict so I might have a hope in getting that one. Speaking about prices, there's an ex commonwealth games property going for just shy of a grand. It's an excellent place but finding 2 other folk to move into is worse of a headache than actually finding a place for myself 😂 by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Sep 2021 10:53pm)
  • One of the big troubles I have is the transport. My shifts start at 7am so I'd need to be in the city by at least half past. It really frustrating but I can't afford to drive at this point in time. by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Sep 2021 10:50pm)
  • Sadly, I can't afford to drive at this time, so that makes commuting a pain in the butthole. I'm working at the Glasgow Royal with shifts that start at 7am, which rules out most busses/trains sadly. by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Sep 2021 10:56pm)
  • When I started looking for a flat I did use Facebook as a guide for what price ranges I could expect where, but that's all out of whack now because these folk using Hotels and active AirBnB's to scam folk out of their money, especially in a housing crisis by SarkyJock (Thu 30th Sep 2021 9:01pm)
  • She does that all the time, relaxes restrictions for important things to her, then clamps down once it's over. I won't be surprised if the nightclubs and bars either close or have a curfew again. by SarkyJock (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 10:37am)
  • My bus home from work last night broke down because there was water in the engine. Now that's havoc. by SarkyJock (Thu 28th Oct 2021 9:44am)
  • I didn't mean 20 minutes to get there, I meant arriving 20 minutes early after factoring the traffic in by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Dec 2021 2:15pm)
  • Fair enough then by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Dec 2021 2:31pm)
  • Not to mention it's near enough 2 years into the pandemic, you would thought if it was such a big effect, then they woulda figured it out by now by SarkyJock (Fri 24th Dec 2021 3:19pm)
  • I had this issue a while back, not with evri but with another firm. I lodges a complaint with the delivery company itself but when I went to the seller they said to deal with the delivery company. Poor guy on the phone was incredulous when I told him about the contract thing and insisted I was lying. Call centre guys don't have a clue how it works by SarkyJock (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 5:21pm)
  • Not a bus driver but work in a hospital. Any job involving the public is a miserable career choice, opens you up to all sorts of abuse. by SarkyJock (Fri 3rd Mar 2023 11:30pm)
  • I've found there's a growing sense of belligerent entitlement that I hope will eventually level off. Everywhere you look public services are on their knees but people still expect high class treatment. I can only do so much with my own two hands, there's many that don't appreciate that and that's what really hits my mental health. by SarkyJock (Sat 4th Mar 2023 12:18am)
  • Thanks for that experience, I had a quick check of the home report but it noted no issues. I will however keep this in the back of my mind for not just the roof but other issues in the block as well. Fingers crossed anyway by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:09pm)
  • Totally, I expect if anything like that comes up I will need to fight tooth and nail by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:19pm)
  • Yeah, that is a thought I had too. When I next get a weekend off work, my dad and I are going to look into it a bit more, we just didn't have time after moving. The wires in the light fittings seemed okay but we're gonna get together my next weekend off and bring more tools. As for decorating, the walls are a bit of a state at the moment but I'm just going to white them and make it a blank canvas since I haven't decided what I want to do just yet. by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:15pm)
  • Thanks for that one, dad and I were under the impression you needed to have a certification to do them. But I will look into some affordable options by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:28pm)
  • I don't see any cracks that I am alarmed about, there just one that looks like a crack in the plaster between two nails in the wall. I have found the water valve and have marked it with reflective tape by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:32pm)
  • Knew the deal when I came into a building built in 1907, just need to build up a big war chest and prepare. by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 10:37pm)
  • Thanks for the detailed response, I'll just go through point by point. Locks were sorted same day I got keys. For the rewire, my dad and I are planning in the next two or three weeks of checking if that's needed. Wires themselves look okay at outlets and lights, so we're gonna get some detectors up the road (he lives in the borders) and see if it's needed. Carpets are planned, but not in the budget at the moment. There is laminate in place now which will do for the time being. As for noise, I am ground floor but thick underlay is the plan. At the moment, the windows are painted shut and not letting a draft in now, however when the heatwave comes, they will be scraped, recoated and new rubber seals put on them. by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 11:23pm)
  • Dirty windows are my pet hate. I'm ground floor so I'll use my pole for painting to mount a brush and squeegee. I'll have a look, I work a lot of nights in the NHS so I'll need blackout blinds or curtains, but I'll keep my eye out. by SarkyJock (Sun 9th Apr 2023 11:27pm)
  • You start to worry when a solicitor gets involved. Besides, I think under Scottish law you need to be given a grace period unless you have broken terms in your contract. My landlord recently told me I had to leave because he was selling the flat. I was given 3 months which I believe is standard. I would start looking for another place now, because when the notice comes in, then you'll have a deadline. by SarkyJock (Tue 18th Apr 2023 11:27pm)
  • It's the downside of America being the dominant English speaking country, their culture bleeds into other countries and causes shite like this. The US is a shit show and now it affects us. I once got harassed in the street by anti abortion idiots. Just asked who are they to be dictating what others do in their own lives and moved on. I believe they were told to leave by the police later that day if my friend was correct by SarkyJock (Fri 21st Apr 2023 2:59pm)
  • Burn the whitehouse down again, bring them down a peg or two by SarkyJock (Fri 21st Apr 2023 5:19pm)
  • I keep my food bills manageable by eating a slow cooker meal 3 days, an individually cooked meal 3 days and 1 takeout/eating out a week. But it also helps that I don't much go for lunch so that's a spot of money I'm saving but I lose that having an omelette for breakfast. by SarkyJock (Mon 24th Apr 2023 4:21pm)
  • Corporate greed is often not talked about enough. We're on the precipice of big global financial crisis and everyone is looking to build their rainy day fund for that, companies no exception. Look at eggs, farmers are saying that despite the costs to produce tripling and the cost on the shelves doubling the price the shops are paying the farmers is near enough the same. Energy companies, governments and everyone else is doing the same. by SarkyJock (Wed 17th May 2023 3:39pm)
  • *wank by SarkyJock (Wed 17th May 2023 3:53pm)
  • CBDC's are something that does worry me a bit, especially in the UK where things like crypto are quite tightly controlled and some banks won't let you interest with crypto services. I believe they did something like this in Nigeria or another African country and it all but sent their economy into a nosedive. Given Downing St's record of botched digital shite then this can only go as bad by SarkyJock (Sat 27th May 2023 2:45pm)
  • I'm inclined to agree somewhat, the 20 min neighbourhood thing where you have all you're amenities in close proximity is good. As someone who doesn't drive, that's perfect for me. But I can also understand the tinfoil hat pov. It was crazy to think they'd lock down the world in 2020 for the better part of 2 years but they did, so it isn't a *huge* leap of logic they are making. Theres not much trust in government right now, which I share since they've proven to be useless, self serving and incompetent. The whole concept ain't something I've given much thought to, perhaps once I've read beyond the concept and into how they are implementing it in Oxford I'd have a better opinion but at this point I couldn't care much. by SarkyJock (Sat 27th May 2023 2:52pm)
  • Because someone took me admitting that I don't know much about a topic and could see how the conspiracy theorists got their opinions and lumped me in with them 😂 by SarkyJock (Sat 27th May 2023 5:01pm)
  • You're spot on pal. I don't know much about this stuff but I just wanted to express that I can understand the tinfoil hat folks thought process. I probably couldve worded it better, but then again, if some folk used the brain between their ears the world would be a scary place by SarkyJock (Sat 27th May 2023 5:08pm)
  • You need to take proof of address. I got some shit for forgetting that by SarkyJock (Thu 8th Jun 2023 11:07pm)
  • Sorry, farts have been pretty bad lately. Think I may need to drop carbonated drinks.... by SarkyJock (Sun 11th Jun 2023 2:04pm)
  • If you click on the stop you're at, it will show you all the incoming busses relatively live. You can pick a particular service from the bottom aswell. If there are two of the same though, if you click on the bus stop then the "departure board" button, it will tell you how many seats are free. by SarkyJock (Mon 3rd Jul 2023 11:25pm)
  • They really do need to do this here. I've used those night bus services somewhat regularly and they've been a life and money saver. Anytime I've been on them, they've always been half full. If anything, I think the routes could do with expanding to other directions imo by SarkyJock (Mon 10th Jul 2023 4:14pm)
  • We do though... Public transport is a devolved issue. They have the power to legislate on public transport in the sense of busses, trains, taxi's - hell even the upkeep of the roads is their responsibility! Fiona Hyslop is the minister for transport in Scotland. Write to her, it is what she gets paid for after all. by SarkyJock (Mon 10th Jul 2023 4:19pm)
  • Agreed, the only thing their food is good for is to prep you for a colonoscopy. Or be the reason you need one by SarkyJock (Thu 19th Oct 2023 6:01am)
  • Apparently from the leaflet I got, there's 2 general waste, 1 bottle and can, 1 paper and card, 1 food waste. The 2 general get picked up every 4 days and the rest is 8 days. Same situation and you, have some difficulty wrapping my head around it but I worry about the yobos running round setting fire to bins out of boredom. by SarkyJock (Wed 25th Oct 2023 11:46am)
  • Useful to hear thanks. Have relatives living elsewhere who have had segregated bins out in place and the councils there are picking up bins bi-weekly for general waste and monthly for all others. Can't help but be suspicious that GCC won't decrease collections down the line by SarkyJock (Wed 25th Oct 2023 11:52am)
  • I just worry about parking, each one is easily taking out 2 parking spaces. I get they are trying to promote leccy cars or hopping on the bus when it eventually arrives but this seems a bit silly by SarkyJock (Wed 25th Oct 2023 11:49am)
  • I need a key for it? by SarkyJock (Wed 25th Oct 2023 9:49pm)
  • That's gonna be a fun addition to the key ring, roughly how big is in relation to a hand or phone? by SarkyJock (Wed 25th Oct 2023 10:08pm)
  • The 14 civilian towns in north Israel were ordered to evacuate because the skirmishes with Hezbollah on the border were getting intense. Let's be clear, it is not abandoned. The territory and border is still manned by the IDF and civilians who refused the order. Read through your thread with the other dude and jesus Christ, you must be allergic to arguing the point. We all know there is terrible things going on in the Gaza, coming from both the IDF and Hamas. However, what input does a Glaswegian ship building plant have any power in the IDF? None, that's the correct answer. They build near enough everything themselves and the last military thing they bought was a dozen ships from Germany. Protesting there is useless, they want change, go protest in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. by SarkyJock (Thu 7th Dec 2023 6:30pm)
  • You may be right, but it's been like that for a while in my area. by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 12:38pm)
  • It is bizarre, it's been like that for a spell. I was travelling over the weekend and the prices were like that before I left. Most I've ever seen it before is like £3.75 for a 3am delivery after a night out. I do see the humour in it too, but jesus, £8 for a five minute drive. by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 12:37pm)
  • This is the answer, been watching too many American shows lately since UK TV is shite by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 5:49pm)
  • It's called a treat you miserable sod! If you read the post, most of the time I walk to my local chippy or Chinese. The apps are maybe a once a month at most occurrence. by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 5:58pm)
  • Used to live in the city when I was in halls, apps were always handy for the big orders we had after hangovers. Even then, max we ever paid was £2, although this was 2018 by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 5:55pm)
  • Simple dude, with simple needs. by SarkyJock (Tue 12th Dec 2023 8:22pm)
