  • Live outside Falkirk. We have a pathway that goes between a neighborhood and a field. Took a walk there the other day. One TV, a washer+dryer and and office chair were scattered along it. Together with loads of bottles, cans and other litter. It’s no doubt in my mind that Scotland has a cultural problem with litter and trash. by TheYardMill (Sun 4th Apr 2021 7:45am)

  • It’s not just Glasgow. The past 3-4 years cocaine has become extremely normalized in Sweden. To the extent that people aren’t hiding it anymore and it’s almost an accessory to their clubbing persona. by TheYardMill (Sat 11th Sep 2021 12:05pm)
  • Gothenburg. Born and raised, moved to Scotland last year. Been around groups were drugs aren’t frowned upon my entire life. But in the last few years cocaine in particular has become very prevalent in the “mainstream”. It’s gone from certain groups doing it to pretty much just being a little bit everywhere and there’s a culture around it now that wasnt there before. Here’s an article outlining how cocaine has risen x4 in Sweden. https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/kraftig-okning-av-kokain-i-sverige by TheYardMill (Sun 12th Sep 2021 12:32pm)

  • If you’re into alt country/country rock, Drive-By Truckers are playing soon. And Nathaniel Rateliff as well. by TheYardMill (Wed 18th May 2022 6:01pm)
  • Real talk? It’s very run down and needs massive investments, like entire train stations are rusted and haven’t seen any repairs for years. It’s dirty with litter everywhere. Flat prices are going through the roof. Downtown is full of hollow faced people with substance abuses. Public transport is expensive and unreliable, it’s seriously a joke compared to continental Europe. Large areas of the city are completely undeveloped and just wastelands. There are trees!!! growing on top of roofs a little here and there. The list goes on. It sometimes feels like a city that has no idea where it’s headed or what it needs to do to get there. by TheYardMill (Sat 28th May 2022 11:00pm)
  • I’ve only lived here a short while so I can’t compare to what was. Investment doesn’t just mean development. I mean develop the city from the run down place it is into a clean and functioning modern city of the 2020s. Maybe these developments are a sign of what’s to come, I really hope so. Because at the same time there is abandoned buildings, rusty train stations, fly tipped furniture (in a city, like come on), areas who have not seen landscaping for years, broken playgrounds etc. As someone who moved here from elsewhere I was quite shocked at how some seemingly simple ordinary things were not being kept up with here. Litter, potholes, general upkeep etc. The fact that we have trees growing out from drains is very telling. Like I said. It sometimes feels like the city doesn’t know what it needs to get where it wants. by TheYardMill (Sun 29th May 2022 9:26am)
  • Yeah. Obviously we see the city biased depending on our experiences. I would love to see Glasgow in the light of Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Copenhagen etc. Even Eastern European cities I’ve been to seem better at general upkeep. As someone from Sweden, Glasgow has more of a “Southern Europe”-vibe in that regard for me. Feels underfunded and slightly dysfunctional. by TheYardMill (Sun 29th May 2022 10:17am)
  • Alright, and there’s no cap for how many foreign students there can be? Seems like a system that puts local students at a huge disadvantage. by TheYardMill (Mon 6th Jun 2022 1:17pm)

  • Lol, every city has more or less creative ways to remove graffiti. Stop pretending that every little thing that happens in this city is exclusive to Glasgow. by TheYardMill (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:57pm)
