  • Hi, thanks for the suggestion! Flatshare is definitely cheaper, the only thing that's keeping me away is the landlord verification aspect and that I can't view the room in person (don't have someone in Glasgow who can view the room for me either). by blunder_child (Mon 14th Jun 2021 3:51pm)
  • This is useful information. Thank you! by blunder_child (Mon 14th Jun 2021 5:07pm)
  • Yes I did look at the proximity on Google maps. Although blackfriars looks simpler, I like the proximity to Aldi and high street. For some reason on maps Havannah street (where collegelands and Havannah House are) looks like it's in a corner and doesn't seem as accessible. I think as long as the property and area reviews are fine I should be okay, it's hard to decide without an in-person viewing. Thank you though! by blunder_child (Mon 14th Jun 2021 5:10pm)
  • Yes Havannah House did look a little more fancy but I felt the rooms were kind of small. I'll still see if I can have a virtual viewing arranged. Thank you! by blunder_child (Tue 15th Jun 2021 9:47am)
  • Thank you for the specific answer! How would you describe your experience staying there? Was the room/furnishings provided sturdy and comfortable, and how was your experience moving there and settling in? It's hard to tell in virtual viewings although I did get an idea of the property, room size and amenities. by blunder_child (Tue 15th Jun 2021 9:51am)
  • Add me in please, I'd like to attend! I'm a newbie in Glasgow so it will be fun to meet new people. by blunder_child (Wed 6th Oct 2021 1:18am)
  • Haha I am in the same boat since I recently moved here. It's very hard to make friends after increased social anxiety from the pandemic. Plus I'm a broke student too so I'd like to go out and meet people but can't do it too often to keep expenses low. by blunder_child (Sun 10th Oct 2021 11:25pm)
  • There's a free student food festival happening in the west end tomorrow noon, might go over to check. by blunder_child (Thu 14th Oct 2021 11:18am)
  • https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Glasgow/The-Sanctuary-Glasgow/Deliveroo-Presents-Glasgow-Food-Festival/35921155/?sktag=13086&skcampaign=sh_eventpage here's the link. It's at sanctuary, which as a club has shitty reviews but I'm going to check it out with zero expectations. If I get free food I get it 🤷 by blunder_child (Thu 14th Oct 2021 1:50pm)
  • Pretty decent, I went there alone so it was kinda lonely for me haha. They had food coming in every half hour so I got myself a free chicken chilli salad bowl from Sprigg when I came in. Salad was pretty good, they also had falafel and tofu bowls for veg/vegan options. by blunder_child (Sun 17th Oct 2021 8:03pm)
  • I just got lucky with checking an Instagram story by my accomodation, it said free food and I was interested haha. Made it a complete free experienced - biked for free from the city centre, got free food, biked back home. by blunder_child (Sun 17th Oct 2021 8:06pm)
  • It's great that you've had this experience, and kudos to you for even having the confidence to approach people! It would seem very daunting to do so at first but this post gives me some confidence. by blunder_child (Fri 29th Oct 2021 12:48pm)
  • Wow this looks great, I love the idea! Its so cool to try out different food and find affordable options. If you wouldn't mind company on your trips to restaurants I'd like to join once in a while. by blunder_child (Thu 4th Nov 2021 9:29am)
  • Hi thanks for that offer! Let me know if there's a plan for a walk around Glasgow next weekend, I'll try to make it if I can. by blunder_child (Sat 6th Nov 2021 10:04pm)
  • Okay I always thought even under fixed prices they can't charge you above the price cap. 73p is much above the price cap though and it's a massive jump, I almost thought I was reading wrong. Tbh I haven't gotten my first months bill yet to say but until yesterday my consumption was on track for a £40 bill per month, now it looks like it has doubled. Which is weird because I was given a fixed price estimate of £60 for the month. I thought this was okay because with the higher price cap my cost would increase to that much anyway and my debits now would count as credit balance, but it looks like they've hiked the tariff to put me on track for a £60 bill right from this month. The way the fixed contract is marketed shows that it protects you from rising costs. I hope I can cancel the contract because the current billing rate is too high. I just signed it yesterday. I can't even eat without worrying about a ticking meter. by blunder_child (Sun 28th Aug 2022 8:44pm)
  • Yes I tried changing it on the ScottishPower app but I can't switch to standard variable. I hope I am able to reach them by call/email asap. This is really frustrating and I'm kicking myself for missing out on reading the unit rate price. by blunder_child (Sun 28th Aug 2022 9:14pm)
  • Thanks, I'll contact them to get it sorted then. Meanwhile I did some reading on money saving expert based on what the redditor above suggested, and according to that blog the predicted increase for January is 54%. So I can somewhat see where the 73p charge is coming from as it assumes prices will rise again in January. According to my contract my price is fixed till October 2023. Guess what I'm going to do next is call up SP over the tariff price and understand where it's coming from, then take a call to switch to standard variable. by blunder_child (Sun 28th Aug 2022 10:56pm)
  • Ah that's good to know! I'm going to a metal gig too (my first one but got to start somewhere), and my friends probably told me about the no lone people thing from their clubbing experience. Thought it best to check. by blunder_child (Sat 18th Mar 2023 7:53pm)
  • No I'm going to see Bloodywood on Sunday but I do like Haken! As an Indian, it's cool to see an Indian metal band touring around and I like how they use traditional Indian tunes with death metal by blunder_child (Sun 19th Mar 2023 12:32pm)
  • I can relate to this. I'm also 25 and working now, but since I'm not from Glasgow it's quite hard to make friends here. People at my work are older and have their own lives, I live alone so no flatmates, the 1-2 friends I made in uni all moved away. Tried meet-ups and it was okay but like you said, older people there. I'm in a club for my hobby (cycling) and while the club is fun, the people there as well are older and have their own lives. I do miss having a group of friends that are around my age to go to a pub on the weekends, or have a picnic with on a sunny day. Perhaps you could join a hobby group and that would help but atleast for me I still find it incredibly hard to make friends with people when they've lived here for ages and already have established social groups. by blunder_child (Sun 16th Jul 2023 3:59pm)
  • I'm in Paisley so I joined one local to me, I'm sure there are plenty in Glasgow. Clubs would usually have different ride groups on different days, there would be no-drop social rides too that go at the pace of the slowest rider. In my experience everyone is very kind and encouraging, and if pace is what you're nervous about you'll get faster riding regularly with a bunch. You could find clubs here https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/clubfinder or there's CTC Glasgow too. by blunder_child (Sun 16th Jul 2023 8:26pm)
  • Sure, will message. Not big on socials though, sorry. by blunder_child (Sun 16th Jul 2023 8:49pm)
  • Aye applications are open for the quarter life crisis club. by blunder_child (Sun 16th Jul 2023 8:50pm)
  • Thank you, I'll check TK Maxx or Next. I really like the quality M&S has but sadly they don't offer more variety. I suppose a lot of women don't wear dress shirts anymore but I still wish there were some options around. Not very sure about shopping online as quality is a hit or miss, plus I like checking the fabric and fit before I buy. I've seen charity shops as a suggestion here too, I occasionally look around those to see if they have any options. by blunder_child (Sun 24th Sep 2023 4:07pm)
  • Thanks! I should check out River Island and New Look too, although I haven't seen much in New Look. If I had to shop online I'd consider Asos too but I'd like to check fabric and fit in person. I guess sizing would be a concern with shein/temu too, I wear XS/UK 8 but I'm concerned shein or temu might be much smaller if they use Asian sizing. by blunder_child (Sun 24th Sep 2023 4:11pm)
  • Thank you! Ah yes reminds me of a shirt I have from H&M as well, it's got extra buttons and cloth layered up to conceal the buttons and avoid gaping. I don't mind 3/4th sleeves as well, I just like wearing shirts and trousers to work because I feel they suit me well. I'll check Cos although I'm a bit worried they're out of my budget. I found out John Lewis stocks Boden, and I should probably have more luck there finding other options too. by blunder_child (Sun 24th Sep 2023 4:16pm)
  • Omg yes! I didn't think of this, I just looked up Uniqlo online. Their natural fiber shirts are a bit pricey (I was hoping for something around £20 but these start at £30) but I like their collection, it is what I'm looking for. Thank you! by blunder_child (Sun 24th Sep 2023 7:44pm)
  • Some of these styles in the £20-25 range are really good! Thank you for sharing this xx by blunder_child (Sun 24th Sep 2023 9:00pm)
  • Ah sweet! I feel reassured hearing your experience. My project will be on 3mm - 3.5mm needles so I hope they don't have issues with smaller needles. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 11:44am)
  • Thanks for this, no harm in popping them an email to ask. I'm just worried I'd meet someone at security who'd insist they're not allowed and then take them. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 11:42am)
  • Thanks for this, never actually seen something so specific. Don't think I'd seen it at my home airport, and questions like this on the knitting community always have mixed answers. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 11:41am)
  • Bit worried about the security guard thing which is why I asked to see what people had experienced. If I ran into a situation like that and showed them the website guidelines someone else posted, would they listen? The ICs are the "premium" set and the plan was to detach the needles. I would not want to lose the needles or even the cord because that would leave my needle set incomplete. The needle set was a gift to me. The less premium option was to use fixed circular needles with a lifeline, if I lose those needles I can buy another one at my destination. For a 20+ hour journey I would be dressed in a hoodie and joggers I'm afraid :( I'm also younger so a lot of people don't assume knitting is one of my hobbies. I might consider wearing a hat and hand warmer set I bought from one of my knitting pals. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 11:58am)
  • My paranoia would probably make me do this, but I did hear of some good experiences and tips here too. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 3:28pm)
  • I don't have any wooden needles because I don't find them comfortable. I have this cutter with the blade on the elephant trunk - https://www.woolstack.co.uk/knitpro-elephant-gauge-yarn-cutter-view-sizer/ - would this be a problem? I can avoid keeping a cutter/blade in my bag I would put a lifeline in my work and let it unravel till the lifeline. by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 3:28pm)
  • I've got knit pro ICs as well! I'll just have 3 or 3.5mm needles on me, I'll pack the whole set in my checked in luggage. I have this cutter with the blade on the elephant trunk - https://www.woolstack.co.uk/knitpro-elephant-gauge-yarn-cutter-view-sizer/ - would this be a problem? I can avoid keeping a cutter/blade in my bag I would put a lifeline in my work and let it unravel till the lifeline if my needles were gone. I don't want to lose the needles 😭 by blunder_child (Sat 9th Dec 2023 3:27pm)

  • I've seen another commenter mention the pencil case tip too, that sounds really neat! Won't be able to carry a cable key but it's not a major inconvenience. Okay now I'm questioning if I'll lose them at Heathrow too, my flight route is GLA > LHR > destination. Used to be a frequent flyer but haven't travelled international in many years now. I imagine I won't pass through LHR security since I'm coming in from GLA, is my assumption incorrect? Thank you for the wishes!
