  • Thanks, will take a look there! by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 3:59am)
  • I hope you've had a nice day on the internet, Karen. Nice that you're pissed off by someone asking where to buy a Christmas tree stand locally, rather than on Amazon. Have a lovely day. by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 6:38am)
  • Who the actual fuck downvotes something like this? by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 6:36am)
  • Yeah. I bought a tree on the 7th (yesterday). I'm looking to buy one today (the 8th). Amazon can't deliver one until tomorrow (the 9th). That tree is literally sitting in my living room dying. That's why I would like to pick up one today, rather than waiting until tomorrow. by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 7:36am)
  • Don't care about the Karma, just that someone saw a post where someone asked for advice and thought "I don't like that". Oh, and for the record, I did put it in a bucket. But the fact it's two metres tall and balancing between two chairs, and if it falls, that bucket also tips over and seeps down through my wooden floorboards onto our neighbours - is a concern. How does "put it in a pan" keep it upright? by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 3:27pm)
  • Says the guy who thinks you can put a 2m tall tree 'in a pan'. Would love to see your house at Christmas. by david9640 (Tue 8th Dec 2020 4:17pm)
  • Ended up finding one on gumtree, but thanks for your help :) by david9640 (Wed 9th Dec 2020 12:54am)
  • Got one in the end, found one on Gumtree - but thanks for your help :) by david9640 (Wed 9th Dec 2020 12:54am)
  • And if you read my original post properly, you would realise I tried to do that. \*hint\* they had sold out (and said everywhere was out of stock), which was why I asked the question. Do you want to go ahead and show us you putting a 2 metre tree in a pan, just for proof of concept? Yet you're the one calling me stupid. by david9640 (Wed 9th Dec 2020 12:51am)
  • Hey mate! Your post was really helpful, ended up finding one on gumtree. The final paragraph was really good advice, the tree seems to still be in a good condition. Thanks! by david9640 (Wed 9th Dec 2020 12:56am)
  • I traveled over a mile to find the tree since the shops near to me have none. I traveled by foot. I carried it back. I presumed they would have bases. They had sold out. Since all the places near to me had no trees, I thought it best to pick up one as soon as possible. I then asked the nice people of Glasgow, on Reddit, if anyone knew where to buy a tree stand - because I was concerned for the tree. I was always going to find a way to leave it in water, even if that meant leaving it in a bath. You decided to be an arsehole about it. Other people have been far far more constructive - and as a result I now have a stand. Lots of nice people either responded or contacted me to offer solutions. Why are you continuing to try to insult me and my intelligence? You're the one who suggested a bloody pan as a solution. And you're the one continually responding to a reddit post of mine, where I posted an issue and people helped solve it - meaning it was a good idea for me to post in the first place. Oh, and if you want to continue to insult my intelligence, might I add that I come from a pretty poor background, and have therefore never had a real tree before. You may think some things are "common sense" to you, because you've regularly had a real tree, but my family literally used the same tree for almost 20 years. I'm trying to make this Christmas a bit special, considering what is going on. by david9640 (Wed 9th Dec 2020 2:14am)
  • Yeah, we were pretty glad that our letting agency were quite upfront about the rules they had to follow. I've dealt with plenty of letting agencies in the past who would've crossed their fingers that we didn't know and just ask us to leave. by david9640 (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 8:23pm)
  • Yes! It's those exact flats. Thanks for taking the time to respond - it's put my mind at rest. I've only lived in Glasgow for less than a year, so it's really helpful to hear from someone who has lived so close to the area I'm looking at. by david9640 (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 8:45pm)
  • It's such a simple job that I would happily do it for free, if you drop me a message. Do you already have the replacement harddrive, or are you also looking for recommendations on that? by david9640 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 10:42pm)
  • I'm absolutely fucked. Currently live in a decent enough flat, near to the subway, perfect to get to work. £495 a month. My landlord is selling, so I need to be out by the end of next month. I've been looking for a flat for nearly 5 months. I've now accepted that I can't get a similar flat in a similar area. All the flats around me are going for more than £700-800 a month, and going in seconds. Outside of the city centre, flats are still going for £650+. I earn £1,400 a month and no lettings agency will accept that as enough to rent a flat at that price without a guarantor. I don't have a guarantor. I need to stay near the centre to be able to get to work (I work in Partick). I'm literally having to look at flats in Dumbarton, Helensburgh, even fucking Balloch - because at least they're only 40 minutes on the train. Still no success. No idea what I'm going to do. by david9640 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 9:45pm)
  • There's a work colleague who was very anti-vaccine until recently. What changed her mind? Knowing she needed a vaccine passport to attend a hen night. Requiring vaccination passports encourages people to get vaccinated and it makes sure the venue is filled with people who aren't going to become a burden on the NHS if they become ill. by david9640 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 5:29pm)
  • I can confirm that the Irish app definitely works - as does the French app. I have all three apps - and scanned the QR code displayed with another phone; the QR codes are identical. by david9640 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 7:38pm)
  • Oh yes, how dare the government infringe on her right to go clubbing. How sinister. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 12:27pm)
  • Where is your evidence that the government plan on requiring vaccine passports to visit a supermarket? by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 2:00pm)
  • You can keep yourself healthy outside. And if once cares so much about health, then they would have chosen to become vaccinated. This is now becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated, so the unvaccinated should have to deal with the result of their choices. We all had to deal with lockdown previously. Now, we know vaccinated people are far far far less likely to end up a burden on the NHS, so those people can do more - without it causing hospitals to become even more overwhelmed. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 2:11pm)
  • And you just eloquently explained how that is your choice. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 2:19pm)
  • It's a choice you're making by thinking you know more than scientists and medical experts. Like I said, this is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated - you're now having to deal with the consequences of that. The rest of us are protected, and therefore don't. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 2:29pm)
  • I didn't say you said it didn't work. I said you think you know better than scientists and medical experts, which your following paragraphs have shown. Your decision not to be vaccinated certainly affects others. You're more likely to end up in hospital, taking up a hospital bed that someone else might have needed. Our hospitals are already at breaking point. The government literally passes rules that affect our lives all the time. Until the age of 18, I wasn't allowed into a nightclub. I have to wear a seatbelt. I can't smoke in public indoor spaces. Scotland has minimum alcohol pricing. I can't drive over 70mph. I can't buy alcohol from a shop after 10pm. I can't consent to fighting someone in my own home. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 3:18pm)
  • If 90% of adults are vaccinated, but 65% of those in hospital come from that unvaccinated 10% - then yes, it is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. The only person who's blinded by propaganda here is you. Like I said, pandemic of the unvaccinated. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 7:02pm)
  • It's a sign of how incredibly dumb you are, that you downvoted that. Facts apparently don't matter to you. Here's the source, by the way: [https://fullfact.org/health/economist-vaccination-status/](https://fullfact.org/health/economist-vaccination-status/) When you consider that the unvaccinated folk are almost entirely young, it's a even worse to think that so many are hospitalised. by david9640 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 10:56pm)
  • I am. The owners of my flat are selling, so I need to be out in two weeks. I've found nothing in Glasgow even close to the same size or price. So I've resigned from my job. I'm going to spend a couple of months abroad, then move back home to Fife. I was depressed as fuck about it for a while, so I feel for you. The Glasgow rental market is fucked up at the minute. by david9640 (Tue 16th Nov 2021 3:57pm)
  • I stay in the St.George's cross area and discovered a mouse a few weeks back, and then another this week. I'm fucking petrified of the pricks, but managed to catch the first one in a box. The one I discovered last week was in my bedroom and literally sprinted away right under my bedroom door (which I didn't think was possible). I'm starting to wonder if it's just normal in Glasgow to live with mice. by david9640 (Sat 20th Nov 2021 9:28am)
  • Hi, I really appreciate your reply and your good wishes. There's a pharmacy really close by, so I will try them tomorrow. Thanks! by david9640 (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 12:49am)
  • GTW storage seem like a good shout, might even avoid the need for a van since they're so close to where I am. I think the Amazon suggestion seems like a good shout - I've had a look and it doesn't seem too expensive to buy some boxes, but I'll ask my bar staff friends and maybe try a couple of hospitality places. Thanks for your advice! by david9640 (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 1:02am)
  • I went on to Gumtree, an Ebay listing in Glasgow was advertised - long story short, I've ordered some decent sized boxes and will pick them up this week. by david9640 (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 1:09am)
  • Oh great, another American 'candy' shops are fronts for money laundering post. Very original. by david9640 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 10:48pm)
  • I struggle to see how this would work. For a business that buys and sells goods, the tax man would want to see evidence of them importing goods from America. There would need to be customs declarations for that. So there would be a paper trail of the goods bought. The money laundering side of things would be pretty difficult to pull off - and pretty risky as well, because it would be easily discover-able. What's probably closer to the truth is that they are offered cheap rent by landlords, because landlords would otherwise be liable for double council tax. They open the business. As they're declaring a small income, they're then entitled to the small business bonus and reduced rates. Then they import some products, and claim to sell those. But at the same time buy counterfeit products and don't include them in the sales figures. They make a moderate profit as a result. But as a front for £100,000s of money-laundering, despite every man and his dog in Glasgow 'knowing' what they're up to? I have my doubts. No drugs gang or serious criminal would be so stupid. by david9640 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 11:17pm)
  • Go ahead and explain how you think it would work then. It's possibly the worst possible money laundering business idea out there. It literally took a two second google to find out more: [https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jun/17/oxford-street-us-candy-stores](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jun/17/oxford-street-us-candy-stores) *"the owner of a property lets it to an intermediary, who rents to the souvenir and candy stores usually on licences. That means the landlord c****an avoid paying business rates on an empty shop****, and instead the occupier – paying minimum rent and low staff salaries – becomes liable to pay the tax.* *However, they provide false details or shell company names that quickly dissolve to avoid paying business rates, making it hard for the council to recover the debt.* *Products found in this week’s raid included 2,246* ***counterfeit*** *Wonka bars, 2,838 unsafe disposable vapes, 223 toys without safety labels and 1,393* ***counterfeit*** *mobile phones. Council officers also confiscated* ***fake*** *iPods and Rolex watches, and have so far seized about £574,000 worth of counterfeit and illegal goods in its crackdown"* They're there to avoid the landlord having to pay additional business rates (which is what I meant when I said council tax), and to sell counterfeit goods. Like I said. by david9640 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 11:51pm)
  • I don't know where you studied, but four paragraphs is not an essay. And if you compare what I hypothesised, versus what I discovered when I did further research, I was right. I'm sorry if you don't know what money laundering is, or how it works. by david9640 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 12:42am)
  • DELETED Are you an idiot? Those links literally prove my points. This is about avoiding business rates and selling counterfeit goods - not money laundering. This type of business would be very ill suited to money laundering. by david9640 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 12:40am)
  • "Here's some light reading or viewing for you" in reply to a comment where I was pointing out that the topic is brought up every two seconds, and inferred doubt - is a passive aggressive pretending to be helpful type reply and deserved my response. by david9640 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 12:49am)
  • I don't think Starling or Chase have any limit - would probably be easier going with either of them. by david9640 (Fri 4th Aug 2023 12:50pm)
