  • I’m sure in Falkirk we *used* to get one or two uplifts a year for free, then a charge for subsequent collections. That seemed reasonable to me (I’ve maybe used the service once in about 6 years). Give everyone the service for free, and charge the folks who are abusing it or taking the piss. Now Falkirk changed to charging for every one... just before I had to use the service for the first time. 🤬 by dst87 (Fri 21st Feb 2020 9:42am)
  • Nice, thanks for that. I’m hoping if I get a decent day next week I’ll be able to just go an enjoy whatever’s open. by dst87 (Wed 8th Jul 2020 6:58pm)
  • While it’s totally doable to have an EV without home charging, home charging is definitely the easiest and best option if it’s available. You basically never need to do anything; your car is already charged with a full (or, 80%) battery every day. No last minute detours to the petrol station en route (something that would be much harder with an EV because even at a rapid it takes a bit longer). So, yeah, comparing using public chargers with public filling stations isn’t like for like really. Still totally possible to have an EV Without home charging but it 100% requires a bit of research and planning. by dst87 (Thu 7th Apr 2022 7:34am)
  • Yeah very true. I have an overnight tariff giving 4 hours of 5p electricity which is a significant saving. by dst87 (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:53am)
  • I always prefer the train. Direct service, comfortable, and no faffing about in the airport (or getting to or from the airport). Just like flying, the earlier you book the better. by dst87 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 7:10am)
  • If you’ve got a relatively new phone that supports it, you may find it easier and cheaper to get an eSIM roaming plan. [This blog explains how that works and how to set it up](https://jeremyburge.com/post/684413901800095744/why-esim-is-my-new-best-friend-data-roaming-fees). by dst87 (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 1:41pm)
  • You’ll be cheapest to just use a travel credit card or debit card from a modern bank with no fees. Card acceptance is pretty universal in Canada, so it’s unlikely you’ll need cash. If you do need some cash the [MoneySavingExpert travel money comparison](https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com) is handy and will list places that you can use. by dst87 (Tue 15th Nov 2022 7:47am)
  • I’ve been pretty impressed by [Döner Haus](https://www.donerhaus.uk) on West Nile Street. If you haven’t tried it may be worth a shot as I think it’s *much* better then GDK. by dst87 (Mon 28th Nov 2022 7:39am)
  • You can get a single train ticket tomorrow for £85. That’s gotta be cheaper than hiring and fuelling a car, especially for a one-way rental (if that’s what you need). That’s from TrainLine. https://i.imgur.com/OA5UKKh.jpg Should be much more enjoyable and quicker than driving, and you can do something else on the train too. Also, if you’re eligible for a [Railcard](https://www.railcard.co.uk/about-railcards/) you’ll save more. Probably could buy a one year railcard for about the saving on this journey, and have it for the rest of the year for other journeys. by dst87 (Thu 29th Dec 2022 9:55am)
  • If you have an iPhone (and I’m sure there’s similar for Android) you may have [Find My](https://www.apple.com/icloud/find-my/) turned on. This is sensible to set up on any future device if you didn’t do it this time. You can sign into your Apple ID online and track your iPhone, remotely wipe the device, lock the device, play a sound, mark it lost etc. by dst87 (Mon 2nd Jan 2023 5:29pm)
  • We used [Blade and Butler](https://bladeandbutler.co.uk) and were happy with the results. Not sure about anything local unfortunately, but if no local suggestions are made they were great. by dst87 (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 8:52am)
  • Just book online. If you can’t book, they’re probably busy. In my experience it can be a pretty busy restaurant. by dst87 (Tue 7th Mar 2023 10:42pm)
  • I like to just split bills evenly. Sometimes you’ll “win”, sometimes you’ll “lose” but it generally works out over time. I’ve occasionally worked it out afterwords out of curiosity and it’s never a massive difference. If you and the same lot of people go out all the time together, you could try something like [Splitwise](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/splitwise/id458023433). Then just take turns paying and pop it into Splitwise. Might be overkill depending on how often you’re doing stuff, but it’s amazing for group trips / holidays or flat-sharing expenses. by dst87 (Sun 28th May 2023 7:35am)
