  • As the owner of a couple of drones, I fucking resent these stupid cunts. All that happens is it fucks with folks holidays and screws everyone else with a drone from flying anywhere. Fucks. by esok (Fri 18th Jan 2019 6:00pm)

  • Awesome! I've never been down that way in years, I just remember being down picking up a synth module from a guy and it was like the bus station from Total Recall outside his flat. I just ran back to my segway and doffed my fedora and got the fuck outta there. by esok (Fri 25th Jan 2019 9:03am)

  • I was gonna suggest just taking a photo with your phone so you can forward it to the cops but the wanks would probably take it straight out of your hand. Definitely report this stuff to the cops so at least there is some record of it. That's next level begging and is an escalation that leads to the same shit you get in London which ultimately leads to rife pick pocketing. Stay safe weegies. by esok (Mon 18th Feb 2019 1:51am)
  • You're a legend! Thanks for the info! Hopefully it'll be less shit when it does reopen too! by esok (Wed 20th Feb 2019 8:30pm)

  • That's a sure fire way to conjure a next day vision quest and a guitar duel with the devil for your liver. Fuck all of that. • I really feel for you, especially at your own house, that's miserable! I think I'm going to MacGuyver some form of Sword of Damocles to dangle over her next bike as a security measure. Cheers for the advice though, She has indeed reported it so will check with the insurance today about excess costs etc now we have a crime number. Thanks!! by esok (Thu 28th Feb 2019 8:07am)
  • That sucks! I bought a D lock and one of those heavy duty cable thingers to loops around both wheels, the seat and the frame, but I still reckon they'll go for it if given half the chance. by esok (Thu 28th Feb 2019 8:19am)
  • I would probably do the same. The worst part is she will likely need to get a second hand one off of Gumtree or something to tide her over while I sort the insurance out, and half of those are probably fucking stolen and there is no way to know. by esok (Thu 28th Feb 2019 8:17am)

  • It seems a wee bit counter intuitive to have slender lassies advertising your fuckin kebab outlet. I mean I'm not even passing comment on the blatant misogyny of "here hen, stick yer chist oot and hod ma meat stack", but that kind of shit makes no sense, the whole Yoga pants and coronary heart disease carepack is completely backward. Food looks good though, but I'd wager the greasiest thing in the place is the guy running it. by esok (Fri 5th Apr 2019 7:31am)

  • I think modernisation and gentrification are all great in the assumption that we have ample social redevelopment as well. There are a lot of hotspots of poverty around the city that need appropriate support and resources as much as the dilapidation of the buildings do. That aside, it's a double edged sword, nice new cafes and pubs do give a nice face lift to areas that aren't all that welcoming, but at the same time, retail units and the like don't have much in the way of longevity in an internet shopping focused society. You can only have so many of the same types of place without saturating the market. I personally would love to see some kind of limits set on the number of bookies, tanning joints and take aways, but I've no idea what you would replace them with. I don't mind their existence but you can always spot the impoverished areas straight away by their mix of pseudo-aspirational "better life" type shop units. It's pretty tragic, as long as you are fed, tanned and have a line on to win those millions you're waiting for, you're all set and distracted. Gentrification should be an uplift in the social fabric as well as the modernisation and diversification of a locale in my opinion. Better living through stronger community, the lustre of the boxes you put all of that in isn't important as long as it support what people really need while giving them something new to engage in. Just my mini rant. Good morning beautiful Glasgow bastards. by esok (Fri 12th Jul 2019 8:37am)

  • We've got a number of headline slots in with a promoter and a few that we have set up ourselves. Our branding, content and socials are all bulletproof and we are in for the SAY Awards. We have our shit together, so I appreciate all of your inputs, and will keep it all in mind. We can't play Box as the sound is terrible and there are too many of us / too much stage production to work in that space. Thanks for the feedback! by esok (Fri 12th Jul 2019 10:19pm)

  • I've thought about this too as I've taken up cycling in the last couple of years, but sadly I'm no where near in the shape to deal with the likes of some of those hills, which I think might be behind the lack of priority in some small way. I came back from Copenhagen where it was bliss to blast around on a bike though and it would be great to have the option. by esok (Tue 1st Oct 2019 8:32pm)

  • Thanks everyone for the responses! I'm in a kid/pet free household so am able to be more flexible about things. I'm actually super keen to get a dog that requires lots of training and attention, I'm big on committing to these things and investing my time. I'm doing a lot of touring of the country midway through next year so lots of opportunity for outdoor fun for a dog. Upon reflection I think I'll go to Dogs Trust and see if I can rescue a pup instead of buying. Thanks all, and may you have a banging Christmas! by esok (Thu 19th Dec 2019 10:54am)

  • My SO is doing her degree there. She is doing a Fine Art degree. Generally, she finds it horrifically disorganised, and all of the facilities, even the new ones are over subscribed. She complains of a lack tutorials or scheduled content, kitchens with no water or heating, lectures and tutorials being cut back more and more every year she's been there and the student social hub "The Vic" is now closed down, so a uni without a pub / events space. Also she has had to work with classmates to put on mandatory scored exhibitions because the faculty have failed to organise a location, as is their task. Take this as you please as it is of course second hand info that I get over dinner when she comes home from uni! by esok (Sun 19th Jan 2020 11:17am)
  • They do a great job of presenting well apparently - my SO said they were touring new potential students around on the open days touting the excellent bar and venue with event spaces when they had already been notified of the closure and were talking about dedicated resources that simply didn't exist. by esok (Mon 20th Jan 2020 12:55am)

  • I had a guy on my Facebook, a friend of a friend type, posting about the immense danger of 5G. Now I thought this guy fairly smart, not the inherently ignorant type that my mind conjures when I hear about this tripe. I asked him why he thought it was dangerous, and he *almost* started a reasonable discussion. Not that his points were valid at all; The frequency of the radiation of the antennas is the same as gamma radiation etc etc (it's not) - and then he descended into madness about how it causes COVID and how the lockdown is in place to allow the government to install 5G masts. Apparently we are now under the Orwellian control of Virgin Media, Three and Vodafone to name but a few. I made the mistake of asking for proof whereby I get a load of published articles from blogs that have three followers wearing tinfoil balaclavas and am summarily blocked five minutes later. This dude is about to have his first kid, and these fuck nuggets are completely ignorant. It's horrific. Also, why would we need to be locked up for a 5G install to go ahead? It's been rolling out across the world for years in terms of hardware deployment at the very least. I wish conspiracy theorists would use the same kind of energy they do negating scientific basis on learning about where their information comes from. Propaganda would be dead in a matter of weeks. by esok (Thu 9th Apr 2020 7:44am)

  • I'd suggest the council route because the last thing you want is to become a target if your hunch is that they seem aggressive. Chances are they simply haven't been challenged so they just think the behaviour is acceptable. This is all much easier if you have a close with a few neighbors and you can't then be singled out as the complainant of course. Remember if your behaviour (which I'm sure is perfectly fine btw!) was offensive, you'd likely respond better to an official reproach rather than having some stranger in your block telling you what to so. Basically report it to the right authority and keep a track of it, both the behaviour and your contact with the council. Don't make it personal and equally don't take it personally. People can be ignorant, but it's not aimed at you generally even if you have to put up with it. Keeping that in mind should at least help you stay calm and in control. I'm sorry you're having a terrible time with your neighbours. I've been on both sides of this, noisy junkies in my block in an old flat and an over zealous old dear next door to my old house calling the cops on me for having parties at 8pm when I was working from home on a project while wearing headphones. It can get messy so some distance and a little perspective can be invaluable! Best of luck! by esok (Tue 12th May 2020 12:18am)

  • I've never experienced this personally. It could well be Google being a bit sensitive when cars back up on a certain road and the latency between it tracking that info and updating its tracking notifications is what makes it completely invalid? Just theorising though, as I say I've never had it happen to me. I live out Bishopbriggs way so Cathedral thru Kingston Bridge are my staple lot. by esok (Tue 18th Aug 2020 9:18am)

Who knows really. All I'm saying is, if someone shat in your sambuca, there's probably a reason, but there's no reason to wish folk ill. • Remember it's only for Uni, it's not forever. Take it as an opportunity to try living in another city, but mainly start off by treating it like you're going on Holiday. Get maps, check out trip advisor etc (when the world returns to some semblance of normality), and look at it as a fairly safe opportunity, you're not going to the other side of the world. The best part is that you get to go out on your own. It can be daunting but just like changing classes at school or starting a new job, it feels like a lot, but before you know it, you'll be meeting like minded people and sharing in a situation with others like you who have moved away from home for the same opportunity. A good trick is to join some meet up groups as well (again after this madness is reduced) and make some friends that way. It's a very tough time to be relocating and could result in some loneliness but just keep your digital safety net at hand and schedule calls in over zoom or whatever to decant your experiences until you start to get a foothold! You're gonna do great and you're gonna have an awesome time both socially and creatively, run head first at it and give it your best! Good luck! by esok (Fri 12th Feb 2021 7:48pm)

  • I've always been aware of it - but what's tragic is that I feel like I've developed a blind spot, like it's just noise in the background, it's so very pervasive across the city. Every once in a while, the scale of it hits me and it's never a dull hit either - last time was late last week I was driving on to the M80 and the entire slip lane was just peppered with general trash - all of the slip lanes are like this and it boggles my mind. by esok (Mon 9th Aug 2021 11:05am)

I have been down loads while remodelling the house and clearing up rooms / cupboards of shame in my house, as well as old BBQs and stuff. • Generally, I'd suggest you kill them with kindness. I had lived in a 4 in a block for about 9 years. When I moved in, the old dear upstairs called the cops because I was having a party. I was in on my own eating my dinner while watching a film on my laptop because nothing was unpacked yet. This continued for a wee while, so I decided I needed to take her "that young guy is gonna be trouble" mind set from her. I basically dropped by her door, asked her for some local info (to make her feel like she was useful) and then I got the bin schedule from her and then told her to leave the bins, and I'd sort them from now on. Little things like this make them stop treating you like "other" and actually have a name and a face to you which makes it harder for them to be difficult. Another wee tip is give them a number to text when they have a problem, but get a cheapo Pay as you go phone, that way you can control the situation and give them a sense of community at the same time. Don't give out your personal actual number of course! If this stuff either doesn't work or doesn't sound like something you'd want to do, you could always just black book every single interaction and report to the police or council if they are being unrealistic in a shared space. Unruly neighbors aren't just those who have mad raves for days at a time. I wish you luck though, it's a piss situation to be in. • There's a wee site in Stirling called Cobleland, some nice walks round there, a wee river and good facilities and cheap. Great wee first time away place! by esok (Sun 10th Apr 2022 7:05pm)
  • Similar deal, a milestone birthday for me, but I live in Glasgow and all of my family are in a wee town to the east. So as not to cause anyone inconvenience, I insisted I get a taxi through so no one had to come get me or bring a car. I get the taxi, on time no less, however the guy has the location I'm going to on his satnav, insists I show him where to go every step of the way even though it's on his screen and complains the entire time that it is 12 miles away. I mean, he got the booking, he had the location at the start and he was being paid over £20 for a trip that would use less than £5 both ways even in a much less efficient car. Really pissed me off and ruined my mood for the journey. These fuckers need regulated because complaints go nowhere. by esok (Sun 17th Apr 2022 10:27am)

  • I used this, at a work pub quiz. I worked for a weapons company. Lead balloon. by esok (Wed 6th Jul 2022 11:21pm)
  • Glasgow Studios down in Dalmarnock as well, right next to Dalmarnock train station too. My mates band use them and they seem well serviced and clean. by esok (Mon 11th Jul 2022 7:25pm)

  • I think they know their demographic. They're not prone to making a misteak bake. by esok (Wed 6th Sep 2023 12:37am)
  • Played there, seen many bands there, would recommend. It's not the stuff of legend like it used to be purported in the old indie days but still a good venue. For reference I've seen varied folks from Har Mar Superstar and Lizzo through to Kasabian and Coldplay play there. by esok (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 11:27pm)

  • Good.idea but the good ones are extortionate and the power bills they run up aren't light either! Really good shout but a shame that OP would have to pay a tariff for clean air just because some dick is taking the piss in a common area. by esok (Mon 30th Oct 2023 11:21am)
  • Yeah, I have no idea what I'd do in that situation! You're right though! by esok (Mon 30th Oct 2023 6:14pm)
  • Contact someone who knows what they are doing. ISPs and installation wayleave are not difficult, but it does seem like you might be a little bit out of your wheel house. Just getting internet access from Public hotspots might be a stop gap but running your business over one is just exposing yourself to attack vectors from third parties on the same device because it's outwith your control. Do it right so it doesn't bite you on the butt later! by esok (Wed 1st Nov 2023 8:09am)
  • Oh and additionally, there are no post codes in the city centre that have zero coverage - having been a systems engineer in the city for 22 years, I can attest! A cheap option might be a 5G MiFi device but best check with mobile provider gets the best signal where you are. Good luck! by esok (Wed 1st Nov 2023 8:11am)

  • Having just put an offer in on my first place, I know what you mean! Although as much as I don't trust the home report, I've come to trust builders even less, so to the best of my ability, I just did a whole bunch of YouTube sleuthing about what to look for in a building, and bought a cheap damp meter off Amazon. That was the best I could muster! Probably not much help but thought I'd chime in! by esok (Mon 20th Nov 2023 1:24pm)
  • As long as he steams a good ham. by esok (Mon 20th Nov 2023 1:20pm)
  • Thank you very much! Best of luck in your hunt too! Oh and yeah, I don't think the damp meters are up to much, but I just wanted some sense that I was arming myself with some information! by esok (Mon 20th Nov 2023 6:13pm)
