  • Radio clyde used to be an amazing station, and it had some of the most innovative DJ's in commercial radio in the late 1980's and mid 1990's, (eg *DJ Segun; All right all night* and *Paul Welsh*.) But now it is a terrible facsimile of an X Factor type playlist. Does Glasgow Uni still do its "legal" type pirate radio station aka Radio Mercury? by fluffykintail (Sun 10th Mar 2019 2:09pm)
  • Lack of sunlight/vitamin D in winter. Facebook/*scumbook* creates social alienation. Dating apps encourage users to dehumanise their fellow human. Reality TV promotes fake unrealistic lifestyles that isnt possible in the real world. Violence. deprivation. Crap music. Deal with that lot and the suicide issue will go away. by fluffykintail (Tue 19th Mar 2019 2:25pm)
  • Just to chip in from Edinburgh; Edinburgh is going through a process of being depopulated because of Airbnb flats. A high percentage of people who you will mingle there with are not local and are transitory in nature, (aka they are only there for 2-3 days.) by fluffykintail (Thu 21st Mar 2019 3:01pm)
  • So its still safe then? That stuff with the Old firm was just a blip? by fluffykintail (Mon 1st Apr 2019 1:25pm)
  • Did they not renovate posh yuppie type flats above the Bamboo club? Its the same building that faces out on to Renfield street? by fluffykintail (Wed 17th Apr 2019 7:16pm)
  • Why dont they make the Paisley-Renfrew-Govan proposal a subway instead? By doing so it takes up less space and the subway stations would have minimum impact on the surrounding area. by fluffykintail (Mon 29th Apr 2019 10:45am)
  • I wouldnt say he is a busker; He is more along the lines of a modern art installation. Something that Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer would do on one of their shows. by fluffykintail (Sat 1st Jun 2019 8:30pm)
  • >How much money does a business in any city lose by Mardi gras passing by? >How much does a colourful gay pride march cost businesses they pass? The demographic for those events is quite different from the demographic at a Orange walk in Glasgow. Significantly. the Gay Pride march brings in a substantial amount of money to bars and restaurants that cater to gay clientele. The "pink pound" is quite significant in Glasgow. Just ask the pub and club trade. Same goes for the Mardi Gras. Now as an overview i am not discounting that the Orange Walks might bring in revenue. But no one has ever done a cost analysis of what the Orange Walks contribute to Glasgow financially. This would be a major opportunity for the Orange Lodge in glasgow to show what they contribute to Glasgow with regard to trade, and custom during the summer marching season. so if their is issue with the policing costs to Glasgow, the marchers can say that this is offset by the money that comes in (if it does). I just find it curious that no one in Glasgow has ever attempted to find these things out. by fluffykintail (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 10:20am)
  • >plenty of things to hate To me its not an issue of hatred; Its an issue of lost revenue. *Example*; Say the wife wants to take the daughter shopping for nice things. but then cant get into town due to the orange walk. then when they do get in, they realise that a walk is taking place, and the daughter is frightened. So the mum decides to take her to a cafe. Only to discover the cafe has closed for the day due to it being on the marching route. So several retail shops are affected by the walks, who have lost custom and trade. And the cafe has lost potential customers and coin again due to the unpredictable nature of the summer walks. Now consider that the high street is dying on its feet at the moment due to multiple issues, can Glasgow's shops, cafes and restaurants afford to take a significant hit in their pockets due to the Orange Walks? (EG; how many empty shops does central glasgow have now?!) So a significant amount of revenue and custom is lost, to service the historical remnant that is the Orange Walks. by fluffykintail (Mon 3rd Jun 2019 11:52am)
  • >GHA don’t own properties in the city centre, they took over the old GCC housing stock. That statement is not correct; Just last fortnight GHA was advertising properties down towards Merchant city and Saltmarket in really inappropriate allocations bands. >The system is a needs based system now. I agree. but it is implementation is seriously flawed. People who have repeatedly made themselves homeless due to addiction/anti-social behaviour shouldnt be put to the top of the list to a lovely victorian tenement flat in the city centre or affiliated areas. There are a lot of housing officers at the GHA who have never been held to account for the bad decisions they have made over housing policy. Those decisions have helped to repeat a vicious cycle where junkies have been given keys to properities that are clearly not suitable for them. It could be argued that GHA's housing policies of the last 10 years helped to contribute to the decline in the Govanhill area. There needs to be a serious overhaul of the allocation policy at the GHA. And Martin Armstrong needs to be held to account over his decisions. by fluffykintail (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 3:11pm)
  • >It is correct. No again it is not correct. GHA advertised last week one property on High Street right beside Merchant City. GHA advertised last week one property on Parnie Street. Again Merchant City. Fortnight ago GHA advertised a flat on King Street. Again Merchant city. And in a really inappropriate allocation band too. Fortnight ago GHA advertised *two* flats on the Saltmarket. Both of them where in allocation bands that would allow a junkie to get access to said flats. (And no they are not Lowther Group) I am acutely aware of the housing stock that the GHA has. by fluffykintail (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 3:24pm)
  • I never deleted my post. Must have been one of the mods. Next time your accosted in the city centre by junkies, just remember this conversation we had. Just saying. by fluffykintail (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 3:32pm)
  • Soomeone buzzed me here over your post; I am mod for r/edinburghovertourism, and i can assure you that Glasgow doesnt want to go down the route of Edinburgh. Shopping in central edinburgh is hellish due to the insane amount of tourists in the city. Edinburgh is dysfunctional. It doesnt function as a city anymore. Glasgow should use Edinburgh as a *template* with regard as to mistakes to avoid in planning. by fluffykintail (Sat 1st Feb 2020 5:39pm)
  • Just to let you know it is the same in Edinburgh right now. There is a lot of selfish panic buying happening in Edinburgh. by fluffykintail (Fri 13th Mar 2020 11:10am)
