  • Ah the memories of being in halls in strath and going here for an utter shite kebab after a night out. So many mates ended up with food poisoning and yet we always went back. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 3rd Mar 2019 10:41pm)
  • Work near here, good value and tasty. Really nice lad who runs it too. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 3rd Mar 2019 10:48pm)
  • Arguably more important to the general population of Glasgow than the art school. I'm sure many glaswegians have more fond memories of ABC than they do of the art school. It's a building for the masses, and I feel it's an awful shame its probably just going to get torn down while the Scottish government throws money at the art school again. by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 8th Mar 2019 9:20pm)
  • I work around there have had some junky ask if I want to buy a bike there before, so illl keep an eye out for you. It’s definitely getting worse around there these days, we had the police in our office recently about some junky trying to break into a car park. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 23rd Mar 2019 8:47am)
  • The council actually did recently announced a new plan to bring back more residential to the city centre. Which considering the struggles of high street shops these day could be a pretty good idea for once. by flyingmonkey1990 (Tue 10th Dec 2019 10:45pm)
  • I bought a flat there a year ago and really like living there. Really handy being between town and the west end. Walking distance to plenty pubs and shops, and never had any trouble. by flyingmonkey1990 (Mon 13th Apr 2020 5:28pm)
  • Fuckin hate twats who do this. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 16th May 2020 9:52pm)
  • In my backcourt in the west end alot of people have been having bbqs and no comment has been passed. Doubt there will be an issue unless you're doing it near washing hanging out, depends on your neighbours really but I wouldn't worry. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 20th May 2020 10:31am)
  • It's not so much the architects as the developer who push for overdevelooment of a site to maximise profit. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 14th Jun 2020 10:41am)
  • I walk into the merchant city from the west end every day for work and it does seem like theres just junkies and drunks around, but really I think it's just they're more noticeable as no one else is around. The good weather hasn't helped either, glasgow always get worse when its sunny. People just seem to go a bit wild. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 9:10pm)
  • Yeah must admit I only go early morning then early evening so may be a lot more sketchy later in the evening by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 11:31pm)
  • It's been a great chance to allow scotland to move in to the European way of drinking. I walk in and out of the city centre every day for work and aye I've seen a few wasters absolutely hammered but the vast majority I've seen are folk having the odd pint or two. Gcc should grow some balls and actually try to take a plus from this.we have an amazing city with so much potential for social drinking spots but the city is unwilling to acknowledge it in the fear neds will crawl from the shadows and ruin everything. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 4th Jul 2020 12:00am)
  • A fair point. But the park does allow large gatherings due to its size with a relative feeling of 'police wont see us', in a way having a quiet pint on the street (at the moment) doesn't. There's always some who ruin it. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 4th Jul 2020 7:53am)
  • Ahmen to that! by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 4th Jul 2020 8:48am)
  • I'm getting my bathroom done in a couple weeks and the guys doing it couldnt have been more keen to help/answer queries. I thought a lot of guys would be the same at the moment looking for work but I guess it's just the luck of the draw! by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 23rd Jul 2020 10:25am)
  • You might have hit a cast iron column, we do renovations of some of these old buildings in my office and I'm always surprised by what you find behind the walls. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 12th Aug 2020 10:47am)
  • Just went out for our own 6 year anniversary at the weekend there to Ka Pao, really great if you're a fan of asian food. by flyingmonkey1990 (Tue 25th Aug 2020 5:04pm)
  • I thought the taste was well worth the price, but aye not the cheapest place. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 5th Sep 2020 1:25pm)
  • Not commenting on whether this itls true or not but there is legit a podcast dedicated to the motorway...you can listen to it on Spotify. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 19th Sep 2020 12:23pm)
  • Not sure mate, just says its from the Glasgow motorway archives. Haven't listened to much of it to be honest. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 19th Sep 2020 8:35pm)
  • I mean a train terminal isn't far off that. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 19th Sep 2020 9:12pm)
  • Agree on that, not exactly contextual but then again the original queen Street was just a glass arch with a small building below it. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 19th Sep 2020 9:25pm)
  • Looks like its almost done yeah by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 20th Sep 2020 10:07am)
  • I think second top, mainly because you get the benefits of heat from surrounding flats and you're away from the street. Plus I've heard all too often, and had a couple mates whove experienced it, that too floor flats are good targets for burglars as there's little chance of passer by disturbing them. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 4th Oct 2020 8:38pm)
  • Respect for answering truthfully mate. This is the stupid thing with reddit sometimes. What's the point of asking a question like this if the minute someone answers truthfully they just get down voted? If you do that you'll end up with a one sided view of what everyone's doing and everyone wondering why its spreading. Good on you mate for being truthful. by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 9th Oct 2020 7:18pm)
  • It gets a lot of drunken Strathclyde students in their way home from halls. I used to be one of them many years ago. I've seen parties going on in there at 4 in the morning, fights, the staff fighting customers, the place comes alive late at night. Good memories of it despite the couple bouts of food poisoning it gave me and my mates. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 9:44pm)
  • You're a brave man mate. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 10:06pm)
  • Always depended how many pound coins I had left after the cheap student nights, was a big fan of chips and cheese. Will never forget getting a sarbeni once when I had more left than normal, couldn't say what a sarbeni even is to this day haha. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 10:19pm)
  • Yeah nigh on impossible. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 10:37pm)
  • There was lasers from the other side of the square too. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 17th Dec 2020 10:48pm)
  • Get on to the WHO mate, might be on to something.. by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 18th Dec 2020 12:43am)
  • Just ended up doing the same after watching this haha by flyingmonkey1990 (Mon 28th Dec 2020 4:02pm)
  • Was there too and saw tonnes of folk. Always surprises me seeing parents with kids doing it too. by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 1st Jan 2021 11:57am)
  • Ah that's gutting to hear! I grew up with fires in my all my childhood homes in Glasgow and when I moved away. Reallly wanted to get one now that I have my own place. Cheers for the info though! by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 15th Jan 2021 11:49pm)
  • Chill out mate. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 16th Jan 2021 7:47am)

  • Had one of their black pudding ones today, so good. by flyingmonkey1990 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 12:04am)
  • I remember doing an exhibition pin up in there when I was in uni and it was so filthy we could barely get our work hung up as nothing would stick to the tiles. So glad to see work finally starting on it, it's a great space. by flyingmonkey1990 (Tue 27th Apr 2021 9:33am)
  • Toilet in the merchant Square, they aren't signposted so not used often. Always quiet and cleaned daily 5 stars. by flyingmonkey1990 (Mon 11th Oct 2021 10:13pm)
  • Drove past me up by strathclyde uni, had so many tunes. Loved it. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 10:08pm)
  • This happened to my friend just the other day, exact same story - two foreign guys pretend to be drunk go to hug/dance with you and knick your phone. She contacted the police after and got told today that they'd apprehended them after they did it again (it'd been caught on cctv) however two officers got seriously injured apprehending them so count yourself lucky mate, I know she does. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 14th Nov 2021 11:16pm)
  • Lupe pintos on great western normally has a small selection of foreign beers, might get lucky there. I'm sure I've seen it in there at some point but that may have been a long time ago. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 11th Dec 2021 12:56pm)
  • Night song of the last tram by Robert Douglas. Memoir of a kid who grew up in Maryhill just after the war. Really good read. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sat 11th Dec 2021 1:16pm)
  • I think we need to bring back a mix of city centre living, with small shops/bars/cafes etc to support those living there. It's not uncommon in many places around the world and would kill two birds with one stone. Use up vacant space and bring back people to the city centre. Historically that was also the norm so no reason it can't work now, just need gcc to be more open in terms of planning and development (although they have made this a target for the future admittedly). by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 12th Dec 2021 5:22pm)
  • Not sure where your flat is but our factor is queen's Cross housing association factoring, ever since I bought my flat they've been very helpful and the cheapest factor I've had. While they might not be applicable applicable where you live you could maybe investigate if your local housing association do factoring, always seem to care more and do it for a good cost. by flyingmonkey1990 (Tue 18th Jan 2022 7:50am)
  • You require standard planning permission for a conservation zones. You would only require additional planning consent I.e. listed building consent if the building involved work on a listed building. When applying for planning consent in conservation zones it is just means that the planning department will have more onerous requirements ro be met. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 19th Jan 2022 8:38pm)
  • When I saw masters and 22k I had a feeling it would be architecture. I can't remember what I started on when I finished my masters but it wasn't that far off that I don't think. Albeit that was a few years ago. by flyingmonkey1990 (Thu 27th Jan 2022 8:23pm)
  • Haha I did this exact same thing around 2010 maybe? Trooped a big load of interviewees out to Milngavie to try sell wall insulation. They all raved how great it was, but it was all commission based pay. Told them I wasn't interested and they got pissed at me for it. Office was in a non description block near Central Station if I remember correctly. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:41pm)
  • We took our puppy to kelvin grove park as there’s a fenced off section just across from the band stand. We’ve been taken our dog their for almost a year and he’s met tonnes of dogs of all sizes and ages. Never had any trouble and he loves it, lots of very chatty dog owners too! by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 28th Sep 2022 10:49pm)
  • Funnily enough I just had one yesterday and was thinking the exact same thing, didn't remember them being that good! by flyingmonkey1990 (Fri 24th Mar 2023 9:02am)
  • You'll need planning permission/listed building consent to replace them. They will very likely request they match the original, i.e. timber frame sash and case. They're not cheap... You'll need to apply for both listed building consent and planing consent, planning carries a fee for an application but listed building consent does not charge. by flyingmonkey1990 (Mon 27th Mar 2023 10:57pm)
  • I'd recommend Kelvingrove art gallery, followed by a wander through kelvingrove park then on to kapao if you like Asian food (does small plates of really nice food), or head to finniestion where there's lots of nice bars and restaurants. There's also the hunterian museum nearby and Glasgow uni which is nice to walk around. by flyingmonkey1990 (Wed 26th Apr 2023 9:26pm)
  • Great to see ships of this size and complexity still being built on the Clyde. by flyingmonkey1990 (Sun 2nd Jul 2023 9:26pm)
