  • This is useful, but I'd generally take this with a pinch of salt. The Hillington/Cardonald area we live in is a lighter shade than where my mum stays in Govan and she's had less bother than us overall over the years. Not so long ago, three cars were purposefully set alight near us, one with obvious car accessories for babies and young children. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Fri 24th Jul 2020 12:26pm)
  • Absolutely agree. I started taking the extra five minutes to walk further up to Renfield Street for my bus late last year because the one outside Poundland was awful for junkies and the like. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Sat 25th Jul 2020 9:46pm)
  • I pronounce it as Glazgow. I was born here and have lived here all my life. Edit: I do have some colleagues from Greenock and Bridge of Weir who pronounce it as Glassgow though. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Tue 28th Jul 2020 2:29pm)
  • It's a real shame you're not in the G52 area. Thurston Road Surgery are fantastic (and also a training practice) with all aspects of health, mental health included. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Sat 1st Aug 2020 6:36pm)
  • The murder of Julie Reilly. It only happened two years or so ago. Her last confirmed sighting was in an Aldi on Paisley Road West, five minutes from our house. The police presence in and around the shop on the day they were investigating her disappearance round this way was unsettling to say the least. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 2:02pm)
  • That's right. I think we might've watched the same programme. I remember something about the high cost of luminol and how they had to pitch a strong argument for using it to confirm their theory of where/how she was killed. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 6:03pm)
  • Topolabamba is good and you get quite a decent amount for your money. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 13th Aug 2020 2:33pm)
  • Absolute shitehole of a street. I hate it with a passion. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 20th Aug 2020 7:23pm)
  • Uddingston is nice. I have a friend who lives there (recently moved into a Cruden development and it's brilliant). Your flat is in the Viewpark area of Uddingston, which hasn't had the best name over the years, but it has definitely improved. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Fri 21st Aug 2020 12:28pm)
  • Try Aldi for cheap groceries. I find the fruit and veg pretty good and we can do a weekly food shop for the two of us for a maximum of around £70, if we buy extra goodies like chocolate or sweets. Without the extras, we've spent as little as £60-65. Edit: We eat very little meat though and any we do is frozen, so much cheaper. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Tue 25th Aug 2020 1:26pm)
  • A lot of my friends are in a very similar situation. It's dire. My two friends recently moved into a new build together since they started their house hunt in July 2019. They weren't opposed to the idea of a new build, it just wasn't their first option. House after house after house went to a closing date and went for crazy amounts over the home valuation. A house they loved in Cambuslang was up for sale at offers over £179k and sold for £220k - then coronavirus started which made it even harder. They bought their new build at a fixed price and said they don't think they would've got what they wanted (or on the property ladder at all) without it. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 27th Aug 2020 1:42pm)
  • I've always seen it as, if you have Glasgow in your address, you can class yourself as Glaswegian. People are always going to debate it, though. I'm from Hillington and my address has Glasgow in it but several people are convinced Hillington is Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire alone, not Glasgow. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 17th Sep 2020 1:43pm)
  • Aye, they all look the same as well. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Wed 23rd Sep 2020 11:43am)
  • You're just a big jobby, int ye? by glasgowthroaway12345 (Sat 26th Sep 2020 10:17pm)
  • I was thinking about this the other day. My partner is from Manchester so I was explaining how me and my brother went there every Saturday with our mum and dad. I loved the huge sweetie stall. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Mon 28th Sep 2020 7:33pm)
  • I've hardly encountered what I'd call a ned for a long time. I grew up in Hillington (and still live here) so experienced a lot of ned "culture" between those from Penilee and Pollok back in the day. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Wed 30th Sep 2020 2:29pm)
  • For a lot of people, it's their way of meeting up with and socialising with others in one accessible location that they'd rarely see otherwise, so I get why people are annoyed. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Fri 9th Oct 2020 8:10pm)
  • Cessnock is horrible. It's handy for access to town and right through to Braehead with the 9A/90 bus but it's absolutely dire to be in whenever Rangers are playing. I live in Hillington which is a wee bit down the road and it's nicer. Have you looked there/Cardonald? by glasgowthroaway12345 (Mon 23rd Nov 2020 2:42pm)
  • It really depends who you talk to. Hillington was brushed over with the southside label in my office and a woman who's from Pollokshields took high offence that "schemes" were being put in the southside with her. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Fri 4th Dec 2020 9:47am)
  • Cheers. I might have a wee drive about some days/nights next week and see what I think. Like I said, I was raised believing it was as rough as they come! by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 7th Jan 2021 3:22pm)
  • The reason we're going new build is because they're fixed price and come with a warranty (with 2 years from the developer to fix issues free of charge). We've been house-hunting for a while, and more seriously over the past few months, and the detached houses we have offered on have been swept from under us by a lot more £££ from other buyers. by glasgowthroaway12345 (Thu 7th Jan 2021 3:25pm)
