  • They are hands down the easiest dogs to have, they love a long walk, but also will sleep for hours afterwards and be lazy all day. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 4:50pm)
  • Thank you! I'm totally a cat person too, my best friend has 6 cats. I get the best of both worlds! by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:08pm)
  • Loki, Mavis and Bramble 😊 by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:07pm)
  • 2 were supposed to be fosters.... We are now part of the failed fosters club! by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:06pm)
  • Loki definitely lives up to his name! They are all great natured dogs, I'm super lucky to have them. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:12pm)
  • Yes, all rescues from The Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary. From left to right Loki, Mavis and Bramble. Loki and Mavis were supposed to be fosters. We are now a part of the failed foster club! by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:10pm)
  • If you have Facebook, you should follow the My Shawlands Page, or the Strathbungo and Shawlands Community Group. I'm sure they both regularly post pictures of the older Shawlands. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:27pm)
  • Yes! We always end up out for hours chatting to folk we meet. Lots of people who don't have Greys always ask us lots of questions, we love it, and the dogs always love the attention. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 5:51pm)
  • You should try Candy Cane rescue if your looking for a Whippet, I think they rescue quite a few of them. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 8:03pm)
  • I live in a flat, so I have a communal garden where I can let them off, but there are plenty of dog parks and dog runs that you can book if you want a safe option for off lead training or just a run around. I would recommend following some of the Greyhound rescue pages like Greyhound awareness league (GAL) or Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary (SGS) we currently foster for SGS, although two of them are now failed, so we have 3 living with us and our 9 year old son. They really are mostly lazy if they are retired greys. Contrary to popular belief they actually don't need that much exercise. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 8:09pm)
  • We had a Border Terrier before we got Greys, we just fell in love with the breed as there are quite a few Greys that live in Shawlands. All very lovely dogs with good natures. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 8:04pm)
  • Keep us updated! I post regularly on the Scottish Retired Greyhound page on fb, they usually have lots of tips and advice on getting a new dog and how to properly and safely introduce them to each other and such. They are usually a pretty chill breed though. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 8:14pm)
  • I know what you mean, my girl Bramble has been with us for over a year now and she still surprises me with little quirks that I haven't seen before. I think it's because she now has two other Greys living with her so shes started to be more social and act like a young dog. All of them are retired and still pretty young, Loki is 2, Mavis is r and Bramble is 3. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 8:30pm)
  • That meant to say Mavis was 4 not r. You would be surprised how goofy the older dogs can get when the younger ones want to play. Its really sweet. When Mavis came to us she was a scared little girl from a breeding programme who didn't like any dogs near her. Now shes a snuggle bug, who is constantly up for cuddles or snuggling up with Bramble. Mavis has been with us for around 12 weeks, and Loki around 16 weeks. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 9:53pm)
  • If you want any advice or tips, or even just have any questions you can send me a message. I'd be happy to help. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 9:50pm)
  • I wish that was something they implemented here. I think that would be great, I keep mine on lead when out in parks and its stressful when off lead dogs approach us. Especially if we have a new foster who has never seen another breed of dog or been on a walk in a park. We should be more responsible for our dogs here. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 11:40pm)
  • Yes, we were basically the exact same, Bramble was just about to turn 2 when we got her and she was a retired courser with no prey drive. We waited around 2 months for a home check from SGS and adopted Bramble on her second visit to us. We then started fostering in January for SGS. We had a young male called Dave who went to a lovely man. Then we got Loki as a longterm foster as he has a broken back leg and needs an op to fix it. Then Mavis was supposed to be an emergency foster for a few days 10 weeks ago, and we adopted her a few days ago. by grey_bramble (Tue 12th May 2020 11:50pm)
  • We haven't taken ours to Glasgow Green yet. It's not too far, we usually go for Queens Park or Pollok Park. by grey_bramble (Wed 13th May 2020 1:59am)
  • It's a great park to walk in, loads of areas you can go where no one else is around so the dogs can have a run. by grey_bramble (Wed 13th May 2020 1:55am)
  • At the minute SGS have no dogs looking for fosters or homes at the minute because there was such a surge in applications to either foster or adopt. So maybe that's partly to do with it? by grey_bramble (Wed 13th May 2020 2:09am)
  • Yup! Our Mavis was the exact same, she still is a bit when dogs come running over in parks. As you can imagine it gets difficult having 3 of them out, if one gets a fright or anything it sets them all off on high alert haha! by grey_bramble (Wed 13th May 2020 9:07am)
  • Shes a great natured girl. She was a bit scared and growly when she first came, but shes such a big softie who loves kisses and cuddles and will beg for tummy rubs! by grey_bramble (Wed 13th May 2020 7:46pm)
  • If you like, you could just come to mine and scream in my face like my kid has been doing. THE WHOLE OF FUCKING LOCKDOWN. P.s - hope you're ok! Queens Park in the woods round about the flagpole might be a good place for a scream. by grey_bramble (Thu 2nd Jul 2020 2:04am)
  • I applied about 8 weeks ago via a link the school sent out in an email. Still waiting for it to arrive. by grey_bramble (Wed 4th May 2022 11:18am)
  • Please book somewhere else for lashes. My last experience with lashes from here was terrible. The girl was still using the little ring of glue on her finger for dipping the lashes into. A sure fire way of having the glue spilt on the customer. Alas this happened! The girl tried to get as much off as possible, but I was left with a large black splotch on my eyelid that wasn’t able to be removed. It also burns if applied directly onto the skin, so you can imagine it was painful. by grey_bramble (Mon 1st Aug 2022 8:58pm)
  • Was in there last night on my way home from a friends with my 11yr old around 7:30pm. Couldn’t believe the nick of the wains not much older than him being wee dicks inside the McDonald’s to the folk who worked there! Makes me wonder what the parents are doing? by grey_bramble (Fri 5th Aug 2022 6:40pm)
  • I suppose that their parents are the bams that went to the same school I did. So that makes a lot of sense! by grey_bramble (Fri 5th Aug 2022 11:38pm)
  • We’re in Shawlands, and have definitely noticed a decline of sorts. We don’t really let the kids out after a certain time. (14m, 11m) Although this is more so that they don’t get themselves into any trouble. (Teenagers!!) The promise of the arcade to be demolished and new homes to be built will most definitely affect low income families - pushing up buying/renting prices for flats already there. We have an issue already with there not being enough car parking spaces in Shawlands also, which I don’t think has been addressed properly. It’s been a tough time since covid. Although Shawlands/Strathbungo still seems to be doing well as far as retail/coffee shops/independent business, I have seen a lot of places go out of business, or, only last a couple weeks maximum due to financial fallout since covid. by grey_bramble (Sun 7th Aug 2022 9:44am)
  • I get your point totally, however, in this climate of rising energy prices, inflation and recession - surely we should be protecting our renters, who already live in the area, by giving them a set renting price for a fixed period of time, rather than having it rise yearly with all the other costs. Believe it or not, there are many low income families already struggling in this area. Hiking prices on new builds thus raising prices in tenements/other housing, could put a lot of people out of their homes, due to falling behind on the payments for rent or mortgages. If businesses cannot keep up with the rising lease/rent prices on a lot of the places I see here unused and empty, then how can the people who have lived here for years also keep up with the constant rising costs? I think it’s something that the Shawlands MP and Living Rent are currently taking a look at though. So maybe there is some help out there for the folk who need it. by grey_bramble (Sun 7th Aug 2022 2:32pm)
  • I whole-heartedly agree. It is a complete eyesore to look at. The inside is more or less empty now. It could definitely be used for something else. I’d personally like to see a little green space perhaps woven in somewhere to the plans! by grey_bramble (Tue 9th Aug 2022 7:38am)
  • Living paycheck to paycheck as a single mum in Shawlands. Rent has just gone up, energy bills are crazy. Usually in the negative numbers in my bank come the week before payday! by grey_bramble (Fri 19th Aug 2022 12:28am)
  • Clay Oven Tandoori on Fenwick Road in Giffnock. Great curries and kebabs. by grey_bramble (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 5:28pm)
  • This might be a bit far out, but the Granary, in Shawlands. They have a front bar that would comfortably fit 30. They had a make-over inside and updated their food and drinks menu. I don’t imagine it would be overly expensive to book it out either. by grey_bramble (Sat 10th Sep 2022 12:22am)
  • If you are interested in care, lots of private care homes are looking for staff at the moment. Most will put you through an SVQ2 for care. Check on the care inspectorate website, they may have some job listings or may be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck with the job hunt! by grey_bramble (Mon 12th Sep 2022 12:10pm)
  • If you are applying on sites like indeed, specify care assistant in the keywords box and any that come up, contact directly. Either by phone or email, it adds a personal touch. I would do this with any job site you are using. If you Google private care home jobs in Glasgow, you will get a few hits that way too. It could also help if you already know someone in the industry. Add any care experience you have into your CV, be it helping with younger siblings, or older relatives etc. Hope this helps! by grey_bramble (Mon 12th Sep 2022 12:23pm)

  • Thank you for this! I don’t really keep up to date with these kind of things. Super sad to read, it was probably imo the best chippy in Southside that I have tried anyway. Plus the guy was a stoner which just made me appreciate him even more haha! by grey_bramble (Tue 11th Oct 2022 10:45pm)
  • Try the bartering pages on Facebook. If you’re strapped for cash, swapping for bottles of wine, cupboard staples etc, can be easier on the purse strings than buying from shops or Facebook marketplace. Brilliant Bartering Glasgow. Southside Bartering - if you’re on the Southside etc. by grey_bramble (Thu 13th Oct 2022 12:07am)

  • Small noise deterrent? I’m sure you can get one with a frequency for dogs, it’s not harmful to them, it’s just a very high pitched noise that is irritating to dogs and will keep them from coming in your garden. Good luck! by grey_bramble (Tue 25th Oct 2022 7:45am)
  • The Columbia Inner limits II jacket is on sale on their own website. Some down to around £60. by grey_bramble (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:07am)
  • You’d think they would just shovel and flush down the loo if they are too lazy to go to the bin shed. Manky bastards man. I agree with the paper bag and set it on fire haha, chap and run! by grey_bramble (Wed 23rd Nov 2022 5:07pm)
  • Just heard the Whale of a Time soft play at the other side of the arcade, is also closing down. I’m nearly 30 now, and remember going there as a kid, also worked there for a brief period when I was younger. The spoons is always packed with the old boys from around Shawlands, and the surrounding areas. Shame, they will probably go to tassies or georgic now. They both have a few regular groups of old ones that go in during the day, so at least they won’t be tossed out to no where. by grey_bramble (Fri 3rd Feb 2023 1:17am)

  • I’m so sorry this happened. We have the same issue, we live in the area just off the main road. I have a Greyhound who is also as terrified and reacts the same way. So I stand with you on this! She hasn’t been the same since bonfire night just passed. Scared at the slightest noise, and reluctant to leave the safety of the carpark. Bloody bastards!! by grey_bramble (Wed 24th May 2023 9:02pm)

  • Just done the weekend in Arrochar with my Greyhound. Train from Queen St to Arrochar and Tarbet. If you take the scenic walk to Arrochar from the train station it’s about an hours walk through the hills. Or 15ish min to Tarbet, hotels/bed & breakfasts at both. by grey_bramble (Mon 28th Aug 2023 5:32pm)
  • I hope your friend has been on to Google reviews and screenshot every single nasty reply this owner has posted about them. I’m actually in complete shock at the level of maturity and the downright slander being posted about your poor friend. Totally unacceptable, and very unprofessional. by grey_bramble (Sat 30th Sep 2023 2:56pm)
  • Absolutely shocking that they’ve been allowed to post and name your friend, slandering them all over Google. Now the reviews have been deleted as with the replies from the owner. Suddenly a bunch of 5* reviews have appeared. Very strange. I really hope your friend takes this further! by grey_bramble (Sun 1st Oct 2023 12:50pm)

  • I whole heartedly agree with you, it’s absolutely unreal the state of this country and its govt. They are the reason our communities need these wee groups and should be held accountable.
