  • I think it does need to be taken on a case by case basis but by and large everyone at my local field has they're dogs off the lead at it doesn't seem to be any bother . Certainly I don't think on a walkway its appropriate. But I think it would be cruel to never let your dog off the lead in the wide open spaces like parks . And qlot of us don't have cars to be able to take them somewhere in the countryside. by jungleboogie94 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 2:34pm)
  • I don't know the ones your talking about but more commercial yeah . Like the new developments along the waterfront and all the hotels springing up around Central. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 6:52am)
  • I 100%a agree we do need even more new development I just wish it was done more tastefully by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:37am)
  • Yeah my friend lives in one very expensive for a place with no personality. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:43am)
  • Is ten a penny more to your liking ? by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:42am)
  • Yeah I'm pretty sure stonemasonry has almost died a death . Atleast it probably isn't prevalent enough for many new developments. I just wish when I was coming across the train bridge to Central the waterfront wasn't dominated by modern architecture. I agree with the cranes but in the same breath I'm glad they have kept a couple . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:41am)
  • I think that will come with time . As we transition to less of a car based society the infrastructure will become less necessary thankfully. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:49am)
  • Indeed but they are culturally distinct atleast. Go to Germany look at the old buildings they have a certain style as do ours as do Italy. All this modern architecture is homogeneous shit by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:48am)
  • Indeed I just think it could be done more tastefully. Even over on the continent I've seen large modernist buildings being given classical facades . Which although not perfect atleast is alot better . With all the new hotels I think they are trying to make Glasgow a more tourist friendly place . Which is probably a good thing for the local economy. But I don't think we can just offer good night life . It needs to be a nice place to walk around during the day and thats where nice architecture comes in. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:46am)

  • I'm not a fan of them but yeah I get that you mean about the new residential buildings especially the roofs that does seem short sighted. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 8:37am)
  • It is a good point and I do agree that it's useless having uninhabitable buildings . However that really should be the government's purview to keep our historic buildings upto scuff . But more than that I was really getting at buildings being built with a modern interior but with a more classic looking facade . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 8:36am)
  • I disagree last thing you want is some effervescent glow over the city sometimes progress doesn't mean good. It wouldn't be if the required trades like stone masonry were still in mainstream use . Which fell away because the architectural style changed . So if people didn't start building modern carbuncles it would still be possible. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:34am)
  • Yeah I know what you mean . Aswell as glasgow has never been a city of particularly tall buildings thankfully. But I think the price could be brought down with government investment into stone masonry . With the trade falling away so much the cost would be astronomical. But if more buildings that are being built required them the cheaper it would get over time as the trade would grow. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:38am)
  • Yeah I think Birmingham has had some of the worst of it from what I've seen . I was in Manchester a few years back and I didn't see much of historic buildings in the centre. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:35am)
  • Yeah especially round somewhere as historic and beautiful as that . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:34am)
  • Yeah its unfortunate really takes away from the local pride in the place if none of the buildings are beautiful by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:42am)
  • It's a combination of things unfortunately. Lack of care in urban planning to cater more to cars , loss in interets of cultural architecture, most modern architects design for fuction over form . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:40am)
  • Not seen that but obviously I'm not going to be as up to date with these things as you would be . But yes it is a problem everywhere. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:34am)
  • Yeah the last couple iterations of Birmingham Central library are just vile . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:33am)
  • That does factor in but surely invest more now to keep it around longer . If your building is nice enough to become beloved by the community if will stick around thus be worth the initial investment. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:43am)
  • Oh I'm not going to sit here and defend brutalised architecture not a chance Le corbusier has alot to answer for. Not every one no but it seems to be almost all new builds now are to the same modernist style and its extremely boring and doesn't inspire any love. It's not that they did but I'm sure some did. It's that we had a local style . You look at the tenements or alot of the buildings in Buchanan Street they just fit . by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:40am)
  • I think that's subjective . If your City looses all its beauty for sheer utilitarianism I really think that's a crime against the people living there. The weathers bad enough here most of the time without the architecture adding to the misery. A nice looking place not only is better for the locals it boosts tourism. Where would you rather go or live somewhere with classic architecture like Florence , Granada or Krakow . Or some cyberpunk looking hell hole like Tokyo , Hong Kong or any number of other large Chinese cities. by jungleboogie94 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:50am)

  • This is just my opinion but unfortunately if were a city for all races creeds and religion then we have to put up with the ones we don't like aswell or people have a right to be bigoted about other things . Just because we don't agree with orange walks doesn't mean we get to say they can't have them . There's a lot of people who would disagree with for example pride parades or other movements taking over parts of the city for occasions. So if were supposed to be accepting of all we can't cut out the orange walks just because we don't agree with them. by jungleboogie94 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 7:12am)
