  • Is this from personal experience of being in Tollcross or more of a general East End is rough ? by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:09am)
  • Thank you for your reply! Yes, I’ve heard a few people say that they think parts of the East End aren’t as bad as people say. The house prices / value for money is certainly attractive. I’m planning on driving more to Edinburgh about 3x a week post-Covid. If weather was bad, I would prob stay home or find a way to Queen Street. Not ideal but commuting from maryhill for 5 years has been painful too! by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:09am)
  • Thanks! It’s Braidfauld Gardens, so about 10 mins from Tollcross Park. by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:23am)
  • Thank you! 💗 by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:31am)
  • This is super helpful, thank you! Not too worried about nightlife. We would go into the city if we wanted a night out but our priorities are more going on adventures/hiking/travel than partying. Good to hear schools are decent as well. Not planning on having kids for another 2 years but good to know they are there. by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:38am)
  • Great advice, thanks! We probably will have our first kid in 2 years time so schooling would be approx 7 years away. We also might move back to the US at some point (I’m American), so lots of possibilities! Like you say, we could move in 7 years time if we weren’t happy with the school situation and are still in Glasgow by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:43am)
  • This is really helpful! Thank you! by kattmillerr (Wed 7th Apr 2021 4:49pm)
  • Hey thanks so much for taking the time to reply and leave your honest thoughts. We’re torn on what to do but this is super helpful! by kattmillerr (Thu 8th Apr 2021 7:43pm)
  • Sweet - getting mine tomorrow 🥳 by kattmillerr (Fri 4th Jun 2021 1:54pm)

  • Where did you go that took too much off? Just so I can avoid 😅 by kattmillerr (Sat 19th Jun 2021 9:31pm)
  • That’s so annoying! Brows are so important to the face as well so I can imagine how disappointed you were. Thanks for sharing! by kattmillerr (Sun 20th Jun 2021 11:32am)
  • Not sure where you’re based but Bearsden Dry Cleaners are quite good. Did all my work clothes through them. I’ve also used Havelock Launderette and Dry Cleaners off Byres Road for a blanket clean and sweater stain removal/clean by kattmillerr (Thu 24th Jun 2021 12:00pm)
  • Her place is called Forest Piercing :) she is excellent and also has a selection of fine jewellery if you want to get pierced with real gold, etc by kattmillerr (Mon 28th Jun 2021 12:39am)
  • Go to a Glasgow Library. You can become a member on the same day. You get 10 free prints a day by kattmillerr (Wed 30th Jun 2021 11:48am)
  • I think it’s new because of covid and they don’t want to handle money. I’ve printed a few docs off at Partick Library and there’s a little sign on computers saying 10 free prints a day now 😀 by kattmillerr (Wed 30th Jun 2021 12:46pm)
  • My husband has long hair and goes to Mesart on Great Western Road. Price wise it’s about £30 for men’s cut and style which is far better than the £55ish I pay as a woman. They do a great job and he’s happy 😄 by kattmillerr (Sun 4th Jul 2021 11:01am)
  • Visiting the fluffy highland coos in Pollok Park always puts a smile on my face. Walking around the Botanical gardens with a coffee, exploring the amazing independent shops along Great Western Road and Byres Road, trialling any of the amazing foodie restaurants or driving over to Loch Lomond or Rest and Be Thankful when you need a bit of nature only an hour away. But the best part of Glasgow is the people. Hope you can come visit us soon! Sincerely, An American living in Glasgow who misses family in the States by kattmillerr (Sat 10th Jul 2021 1:02pm)

  • You can also arrange grocery delivery for Tesco, Asda, Waitrose etc. There is usually an option to ask for them to bring your groceries inside for you if you cannot. by kattmillerr (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 11:50am)

  • My husband has two breeding male/female African convict cichlids plus 40 odd juveniles and he is selling them all as we’re moving soon. Let me know if you’re interested! by kattmillerr (Mon 25th Oct 2021 12:59am)
  • Thanks! Don’t know how I didn’t see this one pop up. Yes, I’m afraid it’s probably going to need the section removed but luckily we have some spare carpet hanging around. by kattmillerr (Wed 27th Oct 2021 11:32am)
  • Thank you! I’ve contacted John by kattmillerr (Thu 28th Oct 2021 9:54pm)
  • Iolla - city centre location or finnieston. They do their own frames (so not designer) but they are excellent, super stylish and affordable at £75 for frames and lenses. by kattmillerr (Thu 2nd Dec 2021 10:59pm)
  • I commuted by train pre covid and agree with others - about 1 hour 20-30 mins. I live in Maryhill. I started driving recently and parking at the Ingliston Park and Ride. Free parking and then £3.90 return (I think?) for the tram. Tram is slow but you can do emails, sort life admin, listen to music etc. I found this method much much better as it cuts off the stressful Edinburgh traffic after Junction 2. Takes me about 50 mins - 1 hour to get to the park and ride 😊 by kattmillerr (Fri 3rd Dec 2021 7:50pm)
  • Should be totally fine! There’s two big parking lots - one closer to the tram (go through the roundabout rather than turning left at first opportunity) but there is also a bigger lot that’ll take you an extra 2 mins to walk to the tram. I usually arrive between 8 am - 8:20 am and there are always spots. I’ve only started doing this post pandemic so not sure if parking gets busier if more people return to office. by kattmillerr (Sun 5th Dec 2021 1:05am)
  • It is - I did it once as my office is in the city centre but has free parking. I was 20 mins late due to traffic. Much much better to just go to the park and ride and suffer the 35 min slow tram 😅. Also same day peak return on train from Maryhill is £29. That’s half a tank of petrol for me so hard to justify using the train when I can drive about 3/4 times to Edinburgh (plus using the car for other stuff). Environmentally, it sucks but they need to make the train more affordable by kattmillerr (Sun 5th Dec 2021 11:50am)
  • Mongolian throat signing made me chuckle - I do enjoy a good sing song in the morning. Only time I will use the train is if (1) weather is horrific and I don’t feel comfortable driving and MUST be at the office or (2) I’m having a drink or dinner after work with colleagues. by kattmillerr (Sun 5th Dec 2021 3:46pm)
  • We had a similar issue years ago and I’m fairly sure my partner just contacted the council directly to explain the situation and that you can pay the instalment required but you were out of the U.K. Once resolved, I would also set up automatic direct debit for your account so this doesn’t happen again. by kattmillerr (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 12:37pm)
  • Well for those with bad memories direct debit is def better. Manual payments is what made me miss a payment and get in the same mess as OP 😅 by kattmillerr (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 1:39pm)
  • Train to Pitlochry - walk through the town and do the hike and climb Ben Vrackie. There’s a lovely pub at the bottom too for some delicious food and a pint as a reward by kattmillerr (Wed 5th Jan 2022 10:57am)
  • Laura at Number 659 on Great Western Road right next to Loop and Scoop. Her Insta is @laura_mac_nails 🥰 by kattmillerr (Sun 16th Jan 2022 7:26pm)
  • American here - so many people (basically everyone) will say to learn manual. I learned to drive in the US so automatic only and didn’t start driving here until this year. I was about 8 years rusty and wanted to get my license the fastest way possible and also in a way I felt comfortable. There’s loads of signs to learn, other side of car etc. I 100% do not regret just getting my automatic license here. Also - automatics will become more popular the way cars are going with hybrid or electric. In terms of a recommendation for automatic - Jonnie at Topgear driving if you’re west end / Anniesland test centre based. He is incredible. Likely a bit backed up with demand but worth it. Super patient and good chat too! by kattmillerr (Mon 17th Jan 2022 1:44pm)
  • https://www.topgeardrivingtuition.com website just in case you need it. I think they may serve other areas of Glasgow as well. Also Arnold Clarke let’s you rent a learner car and you can bring a qualified pal out with you as a back up option by kattmillerr (Mon 17th Jan 2022 1:47pm)
  • A lot of it comes down to what you were first taught. As another poster said, if I was taught manual (or stick as Americans would say) when I first started learning then I think I’d pick it up faster than trying now. I do think it’s a great skill to learn but I prefer automatic for now. Just in case you do get behind the wheel of an automatic - the gearbox has markings PRND. You just move it to D for drive, R for reverse, N for neutral or P for park. So to drive, shift to to D and voila! Step on gas and go. 😀 by kattmillerr (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:52am)
  • @montysbakes on Insta. Southside based, reasonable prices and gorgeous cakes. She did a semi naked, 3 tier cake for my wedding and people raved. Edit: If you scroll to the very first photo on her Instagram page - that was my cake 💗 by kattmillerr (Tue 25th Jan 2022 10:00pm)

  • Just moved here as well, iChai is pretty good. The salt and chill spring rolls are great 🙂 by kattmillerr (Sat 26th Feb 2022 10:30am)
  • We moved to Anniesland recently and love it. Very easy access for Queen Elizabeth via Clyde Tunnel by car. Congrats on the offer! by kattmillerr (Mon 7th Mar 2022 9:04pm)
  • We paid 9% for Anniesland too by kattmillerr (Thu 14th Apr 2022 9:16am)
  • My husband and I bought a flat in Anniesland and really love it. We’ve only been here a few months but feel very safe, amazing access to West End via GWR, City Centre via Clydeside Expressway or Southside via Clyde Tunnel. Braehead is easy to get to by car as well. I also love Beefcake (highly recommend trying their cinnamon buns and picking up a loaf of sourdough). by kattmillerr (Tue 17th May 2022 5:21pm)
  • Little Soho on Crow Road for sit in pizza! Italian Job Express for takeaway as others mentioned by kattmillerr (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 10:15pm)
  • I’d just reach out to a few for a quote. You can used the app Rated People to find someone locks to you. I’ve used two electricians lately and it was £50/£60 per hour. by kattmillerr (Wed 13th Jul 2022 9:19pm)
  • I moved here 10 years ago but I can confirm that “have you seen America lately” is my stock response when people ask why I prefer Scotland over the US. by kattmillerr (Wed 20th Jul 2022 2:23pm)
  • I know it’s not Southside but I commute to Edi 2-3 times a week from Anniesland. 10 mins and you’re on the M8 via clydeside expressway. by kattmillerr (Tue 16th Aug 2022 12:58am)
  • Download the “Cat in a Flat” app or go to the website. You can search for verified / background checked cat sitters in your area. They usually range £10-15 for one visit a day or £18-£20 for two visits a day. You can even pay circa £30 for someone to stay overnight. You can be specific about your cats needs when chatting to sitters and sitters will normally send pics and texts every day. I found our cat sitter there and it’s been fab. by kattmillerr (Wed 12th Oct 2022 7:59pm)
  • Anniesland is great. Train station goes to Central and Queen St, easy access to byres road/great western road for restaurants, bars, shopping etc and easy to get to city centre. Quiet and safe. by kattmillerr (Tue 17th Jan 2023 8:48pm)
  • Johnnie at Top Gear automatic driving is great. Covers Anniesland test centre. Everyone will tell you to drive manual but just do what works for you 😊 by kattmillerr (Mon 20th Mar 2023 8:55am)
  • Lilybank Gardens car park. Plenty of spaces and at the back of Ashton Lane / near subway by kattmillerr (Wed 24th May 2023 3:34pm)
  • This happened to us a few years ago. Give them a call asap and explain what happened and that you’ve paid the instalments for last month and this month. Explain that you can’t afford to pay the entire amount in one go. They should be willing to go back to instalments. by kattmillerr (Sun 4th Jun 2023 10:57am)
  • Just to add a different view - Tapi at Great Western Retail park did 3 rooms for us with laminate. Great price and the fitters they use were excellent. We’re very happy with the quality. by kattmillerr (Mon 12th Jun 2023 6:47pm)
  • Are you near Anniesland? I’m on cat in a flat and can help if so by kattmillerr (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:27pm)
  • Aw too far for me to cover, sorry! by kattmillerr (Mon 17th Jul 2023 8:31am)
  • Second this. I transferred here from the Barclay Medical Practice in Maryhill. Always like the GPs and service. I’ve not struggled for on the day appointments as well. by kattmillerr (Thu 31st Aug 2023 8:37am)
