  • Ah of course there is a large Muslim population in Glasgow so I can see why these would be popular with non drinkers for religious reasons or otherwise. I remember a few years ago someone tried a dry bar in the city but I don't think it took off. by kennyfern (Mon 13th May 2019 8:14am)
  • Sounds cool but not sure about eating a pudding while drunk at 3am. by kennyfern (Mon 13th May 2019 8:12am)
  • If anything wants to take off these days it has to be instagramable! by kennyfern (Mon 13th May 2019 8:11am)
  • Ah like the tanning salons of yesteryear, I see! by kennyfern (Mon 13th May 2019 8:10am)
  • New 16 gram stuff tastes bitter, like it has crushed paracetamol in it. Truly revoliting and undrinkable like all artifical sweeteners. Irn Bru was my favorite soft drink but I just drink coke now when I want ginger. Sad to think I will never enjoy a lovely ice cold irn Bru ever again :( by kennyfern (Tue 4th Jun 2019 3:18pm)
  • Its not even that but to a lot of people the artifical sweetners taste very bitter like crushed paracetamol or it triggers migraines. Ultimately its only a drink but it used to be a favorite treat for me but I wouldn't buy it now as it tastes so awful and bitter. by kennyfern (Tue 4th Jun 2019 3:20pm)
  • I was just attacked by one this morning, nearly shat myself! At my bit we don't have wheelie bins and most folk don't bother with food recycling or any recycling so its an all you can eat buffet on bin day so we get loads of them. I don't like them at all because they attack othet birds and wildlife but if people didn't drop litter and recycled properly we wouldn't have such a problem. by kennyfern (Fri 26th Jul 2019 12:05pm)
  • Done! by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 10:53am)
  • It’s done, they said I’d done the right thing reporting it. by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 10:53am)
  • They certainly shouldn’t have this dog as they can’t look after it properly. by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 10:52am)
  • I‘ve heard huskies are the new status dogs because idiots think they’ll look cool with a game of thrones dog not realising how much work a husky is. by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 10:51am)
  • Perhaps but I don’t know them and am concerned they would be aggressive. They are not our next door neighbour but their back garden faces onto our street. It could potentially be any number of people. The other day someone else shouted from further up the street to shut the dog up, but not as politeply as that! by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 10:57am)
  • I’ve reported it, hopefully it gets sorted. by kennyfern (Fri 24th Jul 2020 11:04am)
  • Thanks for that information, I guess it will be a while before we see any rebuildin. by kennyfern (Fri 26th Mar 2021 10:03pm)
  • I think they need to rebuild it it’s was the best place in town. by kennyfern (Fri 26th Mar 2021 10:02pm)
  • Awful, they need to sort it out pronto! by kennyfern (Tue 25th Jan 2022 12:04pm)
  • You can still find reasonable places to rent in greater Glasgow or the surrouding areas like Paisley which is only 10 minutes on the train from Glasgow city centre but if you want to stay in a desirable area close to glasgow city centre or the west end then that will be pricey. The Glasgow area does have breweries and there is always hospitality work. It kind of depends which Uni she will be attenting. by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 5:36pm)
  • I get what you are saying but I think you're being a bit hyperbolic, its not "hell here" its not great and the government in Westminster is a bad joke but Glasgow area is still a decent place to live. by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 5:48pm)
  • No probs, you take care! by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 5:53pm)
  • I totally get that but no need to put the OP off by telling him its hell here thats all I was saying. We know a couple from america who just moved over for his girlfriends studies and they are loving it here. by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 5:51pm)
  • No need to be rude! by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 6:01pm)
  • Well thats a city centre Uni so you have direct trains in from all over the surrounding area into glasgow which opens up a lot of options to you including Paisley which is more affordable but still I nice place to live and work providing you avoid the rough bits but just ask back on here when you are flat searching for advice on areas you are looking at. by kennyfern (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 6:00pm)
  • Definitely fruit flies they don’t look like the fungus gnats you mention. by kennyfern (Tue 4th Oct 2022 10:54am)
  • We wash our indoor food bin out very frequently. We also clean out our brown food and garden waste bin each time it i emptied, about once a month. However we live on a row of terraced houses where not everyone is as clean. The fruit flies are breeding in the outside food bins, especially those that are not being cleaned or even where people aren’t cleaning jars and tins well enough. The flies from our neighbours bin can get into our bin even if the lid is down so as soon as we put a food waste bag in they are back. They then fly in to our home through open windows. Ordinary house flies have been worse this year as well. New food bins only being emptied once a month is definitely part of the issue. by kennyfern (Tue 4th Oct 2022 11:02am)
  • I’m doing that and have been for two months now. I‘m just sick of it, I’m watching Dahmer on Netflix and my dish of apple cider vinegar and the dead flies in various states of being dissolved makes me feel like the Jeffery Dahmer of fruit flies 🤢 by kennyfern (Tue 4th Oct 2022 11:06am)
  • I do know that but in our case they are definitely coming in from outside. If we open the window even with no bananas in the house, we see them in and around the food bins outside homes on our street. We also wash fruit and keep it in the fridge and have been really careful with anything that might attract them or give them a safe haven so vinegar and soda crystals down the sink, washing out or bins often but it’s all for nothing as the problem in our case is outside and we can’t force neighbours to do what we do. by kennyfern (Tue 4th Oct 2022 11:11am)
  • In about 30 years Netflix will do a show about me, with all my neighbours saying how they knew something grim was going on in here. by kennyfern (Wed 5th Oct 2022 10:08am)
  • Such a shame my favourite restaurant 😥 by kennyfern (Tue 13th Dec 2022 9:57am)
  • I don't mind the cold but it's -8 with a freezing fog. So much colder than you will have experienced a few weeks ago. Also the constant rain and damp over winter really effects some people. There is very little sunlight in Scotland in autumn and winter it's starting to get dark at 3.30pm at the moment which some people even those born to it can find depressing. In contrast in summer it only gets dark for a few of hours at night so from 11pm till 3am. This can affect people's sleep, so black out blinds are a must for many. The summer here is also very wet usually and can get really hot. The combination of high humidity and high temperatures (for Scotland) is really uncomfortable and my own least favourite time of year here, I'll take freezing fog over that any day! I'm used to the weather here and don't mind the cold but the constant rain, dampness and humidity are annoying. by kennyfern (Tue 13th Dec 2022 10:13am)
  • I don't think its fair to say people just moan about it for the sake of something to say. I'm generally fine with the weather here but it does create genuine problems for people and some people do get depressed due to lack of light. by kennyfern (Tue 13th Dec 2022 10:27am)
  • We are about £60 a week of two of us from sainsburys delivery, then another top up shop usually at morrisons which is £10 -£20. We also might do a shop at the Chinese supermarket or Waitrose for things you can't get elsewhere so that's would be another £50 but we don't do that every month. by kennyfern (Tue 13th Dec 2022 10:34am)
  • I agree with you on aldi Lidl fresh produce, I've bought there that looks fine, you take it home to cook the same day, chop it and its rotten inside. I just don't trust them so avoid them now. by kennyfern (Tue 13th Dec 2022 10:38am)
