  • I was trying to call to confirm appointment for viewing and couldnt even get ahold of them. I figure if it’s hard to even contact them for viewing, it’s probably going to be worse for getting them to fix things around the house. by milo1605 (Fri 16th Apr 2021 9:56am)
  • Fair enough. I guess she has her reasoning. by milo1605 (Mon 7th Jun 2021 4:56pm)
  • You’ll probably get some ignorant comments from people sometimes but not malicious or anything. I’m Vietnamese and my neighbour keeps telling me she knows Vietnamese people are very gentle which is hilarious if you ever been to Vietnam lol. Also she asked if I want to “meet my own people” because she gets her nails done by some Vietnamese woman. But i wouldnt call it racist but more like ignorant. by milo1605 (Sat 12th Jun 2021 7:20pm)
  • Registered with the GP when I first moved here but you have to call them a week later to ask for your CHI number. Basically England has NHS number but scotland has CHI number. Once you got your CHI number, you can call the help line. They’ve already been vaccinating international students. I got a text last week and have my vaccine appt next thursday. by milo1605 (Sat 12th Jun 2021 7:29pm)
  • No, you dont have to pay for GP registration. Idk about the GP closest to you but i just look up mine online, find their website and download the new patient registration form, print it out and fill it, take it to the GP the next day to drop off. Some GPs just have the forms in the clinic so you would have to come in, pick it up and come back later on but most have them online nowadays. When you drop it off, you must have your residence permit aka BRP and a proof of your address which is either bank / utilities letters or the school would provide it to you (if you study at Glasgow Uni, you can download it on your student center) Good luck and hope you’ll get your vaccine soon :) by milo1605 (Sun 13th Jun 2021 9:27am)
  • Could you kindly dm me the cancellation finder website? It would be a great help πŸ˜… by milo1605 (Tue 20th Jul 2021 11:06am)
  • Non viet on Sauchiehall street for best vietnamese food :) by milo1605 (Sun 1st Aug 2021 11:54pm)
  • Yes banh mi is not quiet right but i think it’s too much work for them to get the bread right plus the real banh mi with all the processed luncheon meat that is made in vietnam would be way too expensive to import by milo1605 (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 10:44am)
  • Yeah not authentic but it’s good though :) Although it is def over-priced since stir-fried is the easiest thing you can possibly make by milo1605 (Mon 2nd Aug 2021 10:46am)
  • As a Vietnamese person, Tesco sells these baguette loaf that is just like banh mi bread. You can get Vietnamese Spam at any of the two vietnamese supermarket by the central station. Wayy cheaper than paying £5.80 for them by milo1605 (Sun 15th Aug 2021 2:36pm)
  • It’s called chαΊ£ lα»₯a. Which is like processed pork that looks like spam but wrapped in banana leaves instead by milo1605 (Tue 31st Aug 2021 11:02am)
  • I haven’t tried the banh mi but it is proper authentic! The owner opened another one on union st next to the central station. They’re both called Pho 79 and they’re where Vietnamese people hang out on the weekend (I’m Vietnamese lol). It can be intimidating for people to come in sometimes since everyone is Vietnamese inside and usually all very loud and ‘aggressive’ by milo1605 (Tue 31st Aug 2021 11:01am)
  • In Glasgow but used to live in SoCal here. Weather is the best but then you get wild fire and drought πŸ˜‚ and unless you live in good cities, water from the tap is horrendous by milo1605 (Sun 12th Sep 2021 9:52pm)
  • When I was starting my account w Royal Bank of Scotland, I tried to do the online application on their website but proof of address and ID kept getting denied. Went to the bank and they said I had to make a call and get mailed a paper application form, then go back to the bank with my ID afterward. The problem with RBS is that you can’t come in to open your account because of Covid. While their app is great and such, it was definitely a pain to open an account with them. by milo1605 (Thu 16th Sep 2021 11:53pm)
  • Panang is good for some dishes but their tomyum has condensed milk in it which is totally not a thing!!! Source: lived in Bangkok by milo1605 (Thu 7th Oct 2021 1:29am)
  • But that’s for getting the spousal visa. We just want a marriage license at the moment. by milo1605 (Fri 8th Oct 2021 10:49am)
  • If you’re down to travel to Stirling, The Book Nook is a used bookstore with really really good book selections. Like the best I’ve ever seen. None of those Asda books stuff. Also please check out your local library. They’re FREE to get a membership for and they have an app now which you can check if your local library has the book you want. Oh and if they dont but they have it at another Glasgow library? They will literally order it for you to your local library….FOR FREE! by milo1605 (Sat 16th Oct 2021 2:34am)
  • Can attest to this, i’m a Vietnamese student at UoG and i have a fair share of agents trying to rip me off. Especially since the law means that you would have to have a UK guarantor or pay 3 months rent up front. Many will tell you that since the demand is too high right now, you have to pay 6 months or 1 year in advance or they wont give the flat to you. But Stirling is def a good recommendation since it’s only 30 mins by train to Glasgow and it’s a very cute town too. I found the people quite friendly but again, not sure if that would be the case w agents. by milo1605 (Sat 16th Oct 2021 2:41am)
  • Fellow international student at Glasgow uni here who live in private accommodation. Like the above comment, i would suggest try Stirling. Come and stay at a hostel for a month or so, then look for accommodation. You would want to view the flat IN PERSON. There was a post recently of international students paying £10k for a private accommodation apartment type only to show up and see that’s all the main facilities are still under construction. Look up for the article on BBC. by milo1605 (Sat 16th Oct 2021 2:45am)
  • That’s probably best if you cant come before renting the flat by milo1605 (Sat 16th Oct 2021 10:13am)
  • Yeah it’s a new thing they’re doing. The big boss just decided last month that toplo and the other restaurants in the chain will now get 10% service charge on the bill. It’s annoying but at least the tips go to the staff (both floor and bar staff) by milo1605 (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 1:49am)
  • Work in a city center restaurant. I would say it’s 50-50, some are absolutely nice and some are just demanding and rude. Pre-COP26, it was mostly nice people with the occasional rude ones. One thing I am quite sick of is big table splitting it 8 or more ways. We had 1 big table of 30 people and they all wanted to pay for their food only so that was not fun. by milo1605 (Tue 9th Nov 2021 2:54am)
  • Can confirm on the American tipping thing. I have not have any COP26 person tip. by milo1605 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 1:34am)
  • Everyone at my work wanted to quit today. One girl almost cried because of how rude the customers were to her. We just had a pretty rough night where we’re understaffed and the majority of the COP26 people are demanding and rude. Pre-COP26, people are quite understanding with us being understaffed but these people’s expectations are just unrealistic. One customer said oh but being this busy is good for you guys. No, no it’s not. We still get paid minimum wage, the only ones profiting from this is all the big bosses who definitely have not even wandered into the city since the beginning of COP26 by milo1605 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 1:46am)
  • We just had this tonight. Some Colombian delegates said to me: Maybe if you know who I am, you will bring me my pint faster. Me smiling and walked away but in my head im like ‘We’re a mid-range price Indian restaurant, if you’re really that important, go somewhere fancier’ by milo1605 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 1:52am)
  • I heard Little Hoi An is good but they’re such a small restaurant and only open Thu-Sat. I have tried to get in like 3 times already and just kinda gave up 🀣. by milo1605 (Fri 12th Nov 2021 11:50am)
  • We have the Chapaghetti ones (the korean black bean noodle) from Amazon and its the same brand we used to eat back when we were living in Asia. If you buy a big box of it, the orice is the same as buying in store by milo1605 (Fri 19th Nov 2021 1:43am)
  • Theres the southside book club on Facebook group if you want to check them out by milo1605 (Fri 19th Nov 2021 1:51am)

  • DELETED Yeah there’s not a lot of other types of Asian other than Chinese and Indian. It is annoying sometimes (I’m Vietnamese). Also fuck whoever says there’s not racism here. I work in hospitality part-time and do get the occasional racist people by milo1605 (Sat 12th Feb 2022 3:54pm)
  • The oxfam bookshops are probably your best bet. There’s one near Queens Park and another one by GOMA by milo1605 (Sun 27th Feb 2022 10:14am)
  • Honestly i love the libraries. They have free wifi and few power socket and you won’t feel guilty for taking up a table to yourself like you would have in a cafe. by milo1605 (Sat 5th Mar 2022 11:18am)
  • Im a bit late on this but if you have a bank account, message me privately and i’ll send over the rest. by milo1605 (Sun 17th Apr 2022 2:42am)
  • Have you considered a lower paying job as a starting point? Im a recent grad too and just took up a job that pays only a tiny bit more than my current minimum wage job to gain experience. For business development, I would say maybe also look into admin jobs or business development positions in a start-up or smaller companies. I got an interview recently for a start-up company business development administrator. by milo1605 (Thu 19th May 2022 12:37am)
  • Went on the DVSA website and use my post code to look up instructors around me, then proceeded to call like 10 of them before one actually is willing to take on new student. Not the most convenient way but thats what I did by milo1605 (Tue 31st May 2022 9:09am)
  • Im glad you didnt take the SMP job because I actually have a friend who started there a month ago. They’re sending her out to sell BT fiber optic right now and she basically has to work from 9AM to 8PM everyday by milo1605 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 6:56pm)

  • Pho 79 on union street but as a Vietnamese person, I haven’t found a good pho place yet by milo1605 (Sat 30th Jul 2022 8:28am)
  • I know the owner, it’s definitely authentic but also their Pho is cooked in Northern Vietnamese style so the broth is more clear (or to a Southern Vietnamese person like me, bland AF πŸ˜‚). by milo1605 (Sat 30th Jul 2022 12:44pm)
  • There’re different Oxfam bookstores around the city which usually carry lots of children’s books by milo1605 (Sun 11th Dec 2022 9:57am)
  • I really like mine, John: +44 7505 926235 Not sure if he has any availability right now but give him a call by milo1605 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 3:30pm)
  • They’re not just flies but some other tiny flying insects that I’m not sure what they are. The garden is in quite a state so that’s a good shout, I’ll check and see if there’s any water in pots and buckets. Thanks very much! πŸ˜† by milo1605 (Mon 27th Mar 2023 4:24pm)
  • Thank you so much! We were considering carnivorous plants but I heard they need filter water? Do you just water yours with a tap? by milo1605 (Mon 27th Mar 2023 5:22pm)
  • Thank you! We’ve never lived in a house before (always lived in a flat) so were not sure if this is something I can do myself. Good to know it’s easy to do yourself by milo1605 (Mon 27th Mar 2023 5:21pm)
  • Agreed with this. It’s exactly what I’m doing at the moment. Not great money but they’re paying for my ICAS. by milo1605 (Fri 28th Jul 2023 12:18am)
  • Yeah i have a degree in liberal art and loads of my colleagues studied something different. Look at the ICAS website and see whos hiring. Generally, big firms like Grant Thornton, EY etc. are now hiring for the August intakes by milo1605 (Fri 28th Jul 2023 5:53pm)
