  • Unfortunately, buildings with a stairwell or a close are prime spots for addicts to shoot up. An addict recently died a few feet from my workplace's back door, which faced a close. He had chosen the spot presumably because it wasn't as exposed, it was also on a set of stone steps leading to someone's flat so would have been seen as a comfy spot. There are really only two pieces of advice I can give, move away or be vigilant. Less affluent areas of Glasgow are magnets for addicts and even a small number who do drugs can cause a lot of issues. Obviously, moving away might not be viable. You won't have any luck getting Glasgow council to evict addicts either, but that's a discussion for another time. The more feasible thing is to gather enough like minded neighbours and keep a vigilant watch for suspicious or unfamiliar individuals trying to enter the building. This kind of thing happens in the first place because people aren't vigilant or are afraid to get involved. The kind of antisocial people in question thrive on getting their way by being intimidating or obnoxious, counting on regular people being too afraid or well mannered. by omegaglory1 (Thu 12th Mar 2020 1:42pm)
  • I used to work in a pharmacy in Glasgow, one of my colleagues was also Chinese. We had a regular visitor who'd come in to get his prescriptions dispensed, the man walked with a stick and must have been in his eighties. Since the pharmacy was obviously swarming with Chinese people, he'd make a point to tell all of us he wanted a chicken fried rice on the go. It was funny only because nobody was laughing 😄 by omegaglory1 (Tue 16th Jun 2020 9:12am)
  • Closing the border is being put on the table, although the Scottish government doesn't have the power to do so on its own. Having said that, I've often stressed that England has 10 tens more people than Scotland and most of the cases and fatalities are down south. If this becomes uncontrollable and spreads like wildfire, I can imagine a situation where the border will be closed with or without permission from the UK government. by omegaglory1 (Tue 16th Jun 2020 11:16pm)
  • That's a good idea, but I'll need to check the parking situation as Paisley is terrible for that! I drove by the Thomas Coats church and had a quick peak, but I think that place is closed now. by omegaglory1 (Wed 11th Nov 2020 10:18pm)
  • I've walked through here and suggested it to my friend (who is operating the camera). Sadly, she has strong opinions about shooting in a cemetery. Shame, as some of the monuments are terrific! by omegaglory1 (Wed 11th Nov 2020 10:47pm)
  • I’ll mention it to her when I see her next time, but better to have a happy photographer than a spooked one! by omegaglory1 (Wed 11th Nov 2020 11:09pm)
  • School Wynd, that’s what it’s called! I walked up this lovely road once on a lunch break. I tried to find where this was sometime later when researching locations online but didn’t have a name 😄 I’m also keeping an eye on the Thomas Coats church, I’m interested to see what’ll happen to it post renovation. by omegaglory1 (Wed 11th Nov 2020 11:12pm)
  • She’s not entirely comfortable with doing something like this in a place reserved for the dead. Although there are probably loads of people buried all over, I think she draws the line out of a general sense of respect. On some level, I think she’s also scared she might catch something on camera! Can’t say I blame her... by omegaglory1 (Wed 11th Nov 2020 11:30pm)
  • Actually, I'm the one into gothic stuff . She and I both share photography as a hobby, she's doing this free of charge so I can't ask too much of her (: by omegaglory1 (Thu 12th Nov 2020 5:33pm)
  • Lots of good suggestions from friendly Glaswegians! There are lots of interesting historic sites dotted around Glasgow, and I'm gravitating toward Glasgow University's cloisters for the gothic stone work. It's a short drive to Glasgow Cathedral from there and since I'll be [cosplaying as a vampire](https://www.instagram.com/cosplay_kamille/), the surroundings would be perfect for the theme. I'm very tempted to include Bellahouston Park as part of the shoot. However, given that it's on the other side of town and a typical shoot can easily last a few hours, we may have to save that location for another time. Scotland has a lot of fantastic locations to offer. Sadly, Glasgow and the West have fewer historic sites than the rest of the country. Last time I visited the Borders, I was impressed by the number of old abbeys and churches dotted everywhere. by omegaglory1 (Fri 13th Nov 2020 2:51pm)
  • Another reason to insist on a contract and to read it carefully. A friend of mine applied for a job once in Glasgow, can't recall the name of the employer but they were eager to make him sign the contract on the day. He insisted on a copy to take away to read before making a decision. When he did read it, the T & C made it clear if he left before the probation period he would owe them a hefty sum. Their idea of a fee to cover "damages" if you will. I'm not sure if there is any connection, but we suspected a scam company. by omegaglory1 (Fri 13th Nov 2020 5:23pm)
  • I'm also curious about this, I work in healthcare but I'm self employed so not tied to one specific workplace by omegaglory1 (Thu 31st Dec 2020 4:16pm)
  • Is the woman elderly? You’d be surprised how many people receive things by accident e.g. prescription meds, parcels; and refuse to hand them back, sometimes it’s because they have dementia. That can make them act in very unreasonable ways. If it turns out she has relatives in the same building, or if she has a carer who visits, it might be possible to ask them to intervene. Hopefully that’s not the case and the courier service just hasn’t delivered your parcel yet. I had ordered a fridge from Currys a few week ago. They phoned on the day of delivery but never showed up, claiming there was no answer at the address. Since this was the city centre, I suspect they just couldn’t find their way and headed back! by omegaglory1 (Wed 3rd Feb 2021 12:14pm)

  • Takeaways being restricted to not having customers inside also doesn't make much sense. There is at least one family on our street hosting their two daughters, one brings her husband and child, the other her boyfriend. Pretty sure that's more than 2 households. A friend of mine has phoned the police numerous times, there are indoor parties several times a week on his street but so far no police officers have appeared. It's not coffee shops and businesses that are spreading Covid, yet they're being singled out. The government aren't willing to clamp down on the house parties. There is a lot of talk about personal liberty, but it's the elderly and immunocompromised who are paying the price. by omegaglory1 (Thu 4th Feb 2021 3:00pm)
  • Not a takeout person myself. However if you’re looking for an authentic restaurant once things are back to normal, Ka Ka Lok and Same Same on St George’s Road (car show room on that same stretch of road) are pretty good. For really good dim sum, Loon Fung on Sauchiehall Street is considered the best in Glasgow by the Chinese community 😋 by omegaglory1 (Thu 1st Apr 2021 9:02am)
  • spacemonkee78, you've made an excellent choice, I’m Chinese and Ka Ka Lok is a family favourite. There’s an aubergine dish I’d highly recommend, I don’t know the English name but it’s slices of aubergine with meat sandwiched between 👌 If you’re feeling particularly adventurous you should ask if they have soft shell crab available on the day, sounds scary but it’s amazing! by omegaglory1 (Sat 10th Apr 2021 8:43am)
  • I’ll might give Bearsden a go, thanks! by omegaglory1 (Thu 24th Jun 2021 6:18pm)
  • Recently ordered takeout from Nuku Nuku on Hope St. I forgot the taste of sushi, it was delicious. Their takeout is just as good as sit in 😋 by omegaglory1 (Fri 6th Aug 2021 4:48pm)
  • I recommend a dehumidifier for your home. A lot of Glaswegian houses or flats can be quite small, older buildings also have issues with ventilation and airflow inherent to their design. You’re going to want a way to keep your home dry in the humid summer months and the damp winter months! by omegaglory1 (Thu 16th Sep 2021 6:06pm)
  • Check with your local pharmacies, they’re often looking for people to help them deliver medication to patient homes. Sometimes it’s part time, at other times they look for someone who can do multiple days a week by omegaglory1 (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 1:17pm)
  • Take a photo of their work van, make sure the number plate is clearly visible. Find a way to ask for a business card from them without arousing suspicion. The best option would be to contact the council, let them know it’s a matter of urgency and have them visit while the work is taking place. The landlord will be liable for damages incurred on the drainage. No doubt he’ll try and shift the blame onto the builders/tradesmen but once they finish and leave, the council will have a hard time chasing them so act before they leave. by omegaglory1 (Thu 7th Oct 2021 2:10pm)
  • VIP dry cleaning in Milngavie do a pretty good job, I’ve used them several times for clothes that had mildew/odours. To be considerate, clean up as much of the vomit as you can before you hand it over 😄 by omegaglory1 (Tue 4th Jan 2022 10:32am)
  • Did a quick Google of that chair, it looks good. Would you say it’s a bulky chair? I uses to have a bulky office chair, but I’m doing a makeover and aiming for less obtrusive looking furniture by omegaglory1 (Tue 4th Jan 2022 11:30am)
  • Thanks for the input everyone. I stopped by Chrystal & Hill in Darnley and ended up getting this one https://www.chrystal-hill.co.uk/products/chrystal-mesh-office-chair-2/ by omegaglory1 (Fri 7th Jan 2022 4:34pm)
  • It came to £150 after delivery by omegaglory1 (Sat 22nd Jan 2022 12:59pm)
  • I never thought about that, thanks! I just hope they have a large enough bath as I have a graphics card component to clean and it’s quite long. by omegaglory1 (Sun 27th Mar 2022 2:32pm)
  • What you’re saying is the agency who advertised the property may have a responsibility? I’m a bit of a newbie myself when it comes to this, although my family as a whole has some experience with this kind of thing. When my friend told me about the dry rot problem, my first thought was whether the agency could be pursued as they should have carried out an extensive survey of the property/building and any problems disclosed 🤔 by omegaglory1 (Mon 23rd May 2022 9:11am)
  • We have a factor that deals this stuff like this but it’s more difficult in his situation. Getting in touch with all the other residents and getting them to cough up money isn’t going to be a fun time by omegaglory1 (Mon 23rd May 2022 9:25am)
  • There’s a tenament flat on Main Street, Cambuslang that’s on the verge of collapsing due to decades of water damage and neglect. It’s currently held up by scaffolding and steel supports to stop it literally falling to bits and taking out the pharmacy underneath it (relocated now, thankfully). Last time I checked, still no progress getting hold of the landlord and residents simply don’t have the money to fix such it. by omegaglory1 (Mon 23rd May 2022 9:35am)
  • This doesn’t sound right, our factor is around £350-400 per quarter and we’re situated not too far from Lancefield Quay. by omegaglory1 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 10:42am)
  • I’ve been Googling tailors and Zip Yard looks good! 👍 by omegaglory1 (Sun 28th Aug 2022 11:46pm)
  • As LadyJekyll said, the London event is more expensive. If it’s anything like the big cons in the US, probably very stressful as well. If you’re in or near Glasgow, ACME is quite easy to get to by car or train. I like the vibe of the Scottish cons, there’s a big indie presence 😄 by omegaglory1 (Sat 10th Sep 2022 11:13am)
  • I had no idea the SEC hosted a craft fair! It looks like the next one is in October, I might check it out. Last time I attended a con, it was MCM Scotland 2019, I think Still Game was on at the Hydro. The audience from that event spilled out at the same time as the con goers, it made for an interesting sight 😄 by omegaglory1 (Sat 10th Sep 2022 11:10am)

  • Nah, it happens when I’m driving. Windows were randomly acting up while I was on the M8 😆 by omegaglory1 (Sun 13th Nov 2022 9:09am)
  • Roundabout? What is this bourgeois nonsense? Long live the motherland. by omegaglory1 (Fri 6th Jan 2023 11:03pm)
  • Stirling Castle is very nice, its a lovely bit of Scottish history and about an hour drive. I always bring it up as a potential place to visit especially since Glasgow doesn’t have much in the way of heritage sites that aren’t earlier than the Victorian era! You can visit the city too! by omegaglory1 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 10:55am)
  • Hi, can you DM me the link too? by omegaglory1 (Sun 30th Apr 2023 10:21am)
  • Many dehumidifiers come with a hose, you can extend it and let it run off into the kitchen sink which will save anyone having to empty the tank. However, you would need to leave the dehumidifier sitting on the worktop for this to work. Heating isn't cheap at the moment but I strongly recommend keeping it turned on at a low setting. The heating bill is nothing compared to the potential cost of having to remove mould and damage to your belongings. Or having to answer to your landlord. by omegaglory1 (Sat 2nd Dec 2023 3:44pm)
