  • Hacking & Patterson are absolute thieves. IIRC they take a hefty percentage of any work done by third parties (esp those who are on their books already) and in the year they were our factors they were constantly pushing to get more and more stuff done - none of it necessary, according to 3 subsequent surveyors. Get rid of them asap. by postrockscissors (Tue 25th Aug 2020 7:36pm)
  • Stick with it! I'm about 9months in and found it tough at first - spent my entire 20s either behind a bar or propping one up, so it was a big culture change at first - but I've found that the friends who are worth having are the ones who you can still stick when they're drinking and you're sober by postrockscissors (Sat 26th Sep 2020 6:30pm)
  • If the facial hair growth is a long term concern, it might be worth exploring electrolysis etc. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Sounds like this person is well-intentioned - if they do think you're trans, it sounds like they're trying to be open and welcoming with you, they've just got the wrong idea. Might be worth having a private word with them, explaining the situation but acknowledging they didn't have any bad intentions. by postrockscissors (Wed 7th Oct 2020 5:20pm)
  • Dunno about availability but Central Therapy (in Central Chambers on Hope St) have sorted me out a few times by postrockscissors (Wed 7th Oct 2020 10:36pm)
  • If you think they're intentionally misgendering you and trying to make you feel bad, I'd suggest that's something to raise with their manager/supervisor. by postrockscissors (Wed 7th Oct 2020 10:34pm)
  • She was like a candle in the wind... Unreliable. by postrockscissors (Thu 8th Oct 2020 8:50pm)
  • there are literally "stitch n bitch" groups, but ok by postrockscissors (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:39am)
  • Ah, West. Mind when they put mics behind the bar to record staff and customers without them knowing? Bad bad bastards. by postrockscissors (Sat 10th Oct 2020 7:27pm)
  • seconding this! bought all my xmas presents in there and got some really wonderful bits. by postrockscissors (Sat 17th Oct 2020 1:36pm)
  • Archivist here - if you don't want it to fade at all, don't display it. Sunlight (even low levels) \*will\* damage it in the long run. If preservation is your main concern, store it in a melinex sleeve and keep it in a place where the temperature doesn't fluctuate too much. If you'd rather risk a bit of degradation and be able to enjoy it, I'd recommend reaching out to the Framing Workshop and specifying that you want it framed with archival standard materials - but if they're going to do a decent job of making a bespoke frame, you'll have to give it up for a while. Anywhere that says they can do it same day is messing you. by postrockscissors (Wed 21st Oct 2020 11:22am)
  • We were with Hacking & Patterson and paid about £300 per quarter - they were absolute jokers. Since moved to D&I Scott, same level of insurance coverage and we're down to about £130 p/q. by postrockscissors (Wed 21st Oct 2020 11:25am)
  • Great idea - annoyed I didn't think of it, as "scan and display the copy" is archives 101 these days! by postrockscissors (Wed 21st Oct 2020 3:06pm)
  • This might be a bit convoluted, but I checked to see where the archives for the Institute are held and the record at TNA says [they're 'privately held'](https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/N13819611) and to contact [NRAS](https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/record-keeping/national-register-of-archives-for-scotland/contact-nras). It might be worth getting in touch with them to see if you can contact the archive that has the papers. In my experience as an archivist it's quite unlikely they would hold a copy of your mum's \*actual\* certificate, but they might have an example of one from c. 1948 which they/you could use to make a mock-up? by postrockscissors (Mon 9th Nov 2020 3:00pm)
  • Inn Deep had Shred on tap last time I was there. It's a bit watery for me but nice to get a proper pint of something. I'd rather drink a drip tray than go near Nanny State, and West won't be getting a penny from me after how they've treated their staff this year. by postrockscissors (Thu 12th Nov 2020 8:15am)
  • Yeah, being shamed into doing the right thing is a great look. by postrockscissors (Thu 12th Nov 2020 8:28am)
  • Aye, so much stuff says it's recyclable, but people don't seem to know that GCC are so pisspoor when it comes to what they actually accept. by postrockscissors (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 6:44pm)
  • They can recycle cardboard. I meant more the stuff like their inability to accept tetrapaks, most plastic tubs etc. The list of what they do take is really limited - great guide here https://zerowastemarket.org.uk/blog/a-guide-to-recycling-in-glasgow-city by postrockscissors (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 9:20pm)
  • AFAIK, it's all to do with how it gets sorted at the recycling plant and the partnerships they have for passing it on. V little of the UKs recycling actually gets processed here, we ship it out to other countries and let them deal with it. It's the British way. πŸ™ƒ I've lived elsewhere in the UK that did recycle a lot more though, so think there must be other options. by postrockscissors (Fri 4th Dec 2020 12:23am)

  • We had the bedroom and hallway of our tenement replastered last year. It was £600 if I remember correctly. The guy who did ours was fantastic, lemme know if you want his number. by postrockscissors (Thu 18th Feb 2021 9:39am)

  • Used to work in Inn Deep and the staff from Cottonrake would often bring us a wee bag of unsold treats at the end of the day. God I miss those brownies. by postrockscissors (Thu 18th Mar 2021 6:01pm)

  • Another Mount Florida archivist! Hello! by postrockscissors (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 4:09pm)
  • Ah, are you doing the IMP course? There are actually quite a few archivists in Mount Florida, maybe there's something in the water.... by postrockscissors (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 6:35pm)
  • That would be amazing! I don't have either so hadn't heard about your work before a quick google now, so glad to see folk getting out and doing something! I'll DM you tomorrow ☺️ by postrockscissors (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 9:34pm)
  • Love the enthusiasm, but I don't want to end up properly 'organising' something (haven't done first aid since I was in the Brownies..) but if folk want to join me they're welcome! by postrockscissors (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 10:23pm)
  • Aye it's been in a sorry state for a long time. Hoping to do Cathkin Park one day too, it's heartbreaking what a mess it is. by postrockscissors (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 9:39pm)
  • it's not so bad. events are few and far between, so as long as you remember when they're coming up and make sure you're either out or don't need to go out you're ok. pain in the arse getting home from town on the trains mind. i'd probably not want to live in a ground floor tenement, there are always a fair amount of arseholes pissing in gardens/snorting coke in door ways but it usually settles down fairly quickly. by postrockscissors (Sat 27th Mar 2021 12:43pm)
  • i worked at those shows selling programmes and it was fucking terrifying. nothing scarier than hoards of wine-drunk 40yr olds stumbling towards you like a Lambrini-fuelled day of the dead by postrockscissors (Sat 27th Mar 2021 12:41pm)
  • Oh, and no fees, nothing at all to pay them by postrockscissors (Sat 27th Mar 2021 7:03pm)
  • Also strongly recommend these folk, we dealt with David and he's since sorted out about 7 of my friends looking to purchase. He managed to secure a mortgage for me even though I'm a PhD student with no secure income, he's a miracle worker! by postrockscissors (Sat 27th Mar 2021 7:02pm)

  • A huge proportion of the litter is from bin collections being done so poorly that half the waste gets blown down the road. Wish we didn't have to get out and do it ourselves but rather that than continue to look at it every day. by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 5:32pm)
  • I just posted here and on NextDoor.com, I want to start a Slack/Discord server too but not sure how easy that will be for folk to use. I'll send you a proper message later and give you a bit more info, but deffo go for it! by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 6:18pm)
  • Organise one! I always wanted to do it but felt a bit overwhelmed knowing where to start. Turns out there's a lot of folk willing to help who just need a push πŸ™‚ by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 6:15pm)
  • This was in Mount Florida, planning on more in the future! Where are you? If you have a suggestion for an area that needs tidying then let me know and I'll get in on the list! by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 7:51pm)
  • I haven't seen him in months, or at least he never seems to come round our bit any more by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 8:42pm)
  • That's on the list! It's the edge of the MF council area and we're planning to do a pick to establish how much litter is there now as a baseline for when the McDonalds opens at Asda. I'll drop you a line when we next get together! by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 8:57pm)
  • This is the first time! I was just fed up of seeing it round here so decided to see if anyone else would be up for helping me by postrockscissors (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 9:40pm)
  • Yeah, I do think a discord or slack server would be a good idea, I just wouldnt want to alienate people who are more comfortable with FB/NextDoor etc. Would be great to be able to get all these small efforts together though! by postrockscissors (Sun 4th Apr 2021 11:28am)

  • Not quite what you asked but I rented above a takeaway for 2 years and it was horrible. Constant second-hand food smells, always loads of rubbish in the back close and loads of noise at night. The flat burnt out a month after we moved out due to a fryer catching alight. by postrockscissors (Thu 8th Apr 2021 9:22am)

  • worked there for a year, it's an absolute shitehole. don't touch anything you'd expect to have been washed. i quit when the shift manager told us to rinse and reuse wedges of lime from people's drinks by postrockscissors (Mon 26th Apr 2021 11:13am)
  • Arlington Baths? I think it's closed at the moment though. Wish there was a dedicated public swimming pool in the city that you didn't have to join a gym to use. by postrockscissors (Sat 1st May 2021 8:48am)
  • Do you have a source for that? I know stuff that can't be recycled in the UK is often shipped abroad to be burned for energy by postrockscissors (Tue 4th May 2021 1:46pm)
  • spill all the beans! what could residents do to improve recycling in the city? what are the most commonly 'wish-cycled' items? what do you wish we knew? by postrockscissors (Tue 4th May 2021 8:14pm)
  • This is fantastic info, thank you! by postrockscissors (Tue 4th May 2021 11:15pm)
  • Get the Lower level train from Central to Hyndland. You can walk do a loop from there towards the city via Hyndland Rd (past the uni, through Kelvingrove etc) and then double back through Finnieston/Partick and jump on the train back to the centre from Partick, either to Queen St or to Central. I'd advise getting a train to Central, and then another down to Shawland or Pollokshaws East Then walk up through Shawlands to Queens Park station, and hop back on the train into town. That would take about a day. If it's green areas you're after, I'd also think about Langside/Cathcart/Mount Florida in the south - all within walking distance of Queens Park, Linn Park, Pollok Park. Maryhill less so, save Ruchill Park. Hope that helps! by postrockscissors (Wed 5th May 2021 7:48am)
  • Of course! It's been so long since I left the city I forgot it doesn't start and end in Central 🀦🏼‍♀️ by postrockscissors (Wed 5th May 2021 8:27am)
  • if you're a creative or artsy person, you might want to check out Dardishi too - [https://www.dardishi.com/](https://www.dardishi.com/). They're a Glasgow based community arts project/collective that showcases the work of ME/Northern African/Arab women. Lots of good folk involved in that group by postrockscissors (Sun 13th Jun 2021 10:56am)
  • Arrange a chat with a mortgage advisor. They'll be best placed to give you an idea of how much you should be looking to save, how much is an appropriate bid, what sort of place you can realistically expect to get. David at Mortgage Advice Brokerage (https://www.mortgageadvicebrokerage.co.uk/) has sorted out pretty much all of my pals, and they don't charge for their advice. I know this probably sounds like an ad but honestly if David could just be in charge of my whole life everything would be amazing. by postrockscissors (Mon 16th Aug 2021 10:24pm)
