  • Depends on the high rise I think. The ones in Broomhill are mostly decent. Now and then there's a problem neighbour or rubbish left outside but it's mostly pretty quiet and respectful in my experience. The Broomhill flats are weirdly situated though, bottom 10pc of Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, then literally across the road on Broomhill Drive, top 10pc. by scarebear__ (Mon 24th May 2021 12:54pm)

  • Some of us remember the 80s and the exact same rhetoric being used by educated middle class people with "legitimate concerns" about gay people. The topics are slightly different but the same barely concealed disgust is still very much apparent. Keep them out of normal people people's spaces, treating them like an issue rather than living breathing people, won't someone think of the children, etc. It's foul. by scarebear__ (Tue 20th Jul 2021 3:07pm)

  • Long time ago now, but I got it for an interview in London the next day back in the late 90s when I was poor. We stopped at some services in North of England in the middle of the night and when we came back on the bus there was a screaming fight and punches thrown in the aisle between two women over - get this - someone sitting in the wrong seat. No sleep, screaming match for the rest of the night, everyone telling them to STFU and being ignored, including the driver who put up with it I didn't get the job. by scarebear__ (Wed 21st Jul 2021 5:21pm)

  • An Australian guy came up to me and a friend outside Bennetts in about 2001 wanting to find "some action" and we were drunk and going that way anyway so walked him down to Anderston where we set him up. On the way back into town because we were tired and needed a taxi we stopped a guy throwing himself off the George V Bridge into the Clyde so I'm glad we helped that horny guy out. by scarebear__ (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 9:48pm)

  • Yup. I was cycling through in the summer and trying to negotiate the people walking as well as other cyclists and was met with some aggressive GoPro cycling wank coming the other way screaming "On the LEEEEEFT ONLY!" at me. Hope Doom Awaited him, the twat. by scarebear__ (Sat 9th Oct 2021 11:41am)

  • YES. Nearly stepped on someone's camouflaged rat dog in the half light while running yesterday, like it's my fault you have a diarrhoea hued yapper the same colour as leaves. Got yelled at. Shouted "put it on a lead then" as I ran past. I feel better now having shared my brave story, thanks. by scarebear__ (Sat 20th Nov 2021 9:31am)
  • I agree with OP, bike lanes are for cyclists but while everything is mainly about cars and driver convenience on the road, pedestrians/cyclists are an afterthought. Take that bit under the railway bridge at Clarence Drive, which exemplifies the lack of a shit GCC gives about their cycle lanes and upkeep. Always full of litter, mud and leaves it's far more dangerous than cycling in the road. Then you get shit from drivers because you're in their way. Cyclists act like they do because they have to think quickly and assert themselves with their behaviour as they're moving so everything can seem urgent and aggressive even when they're just trying to get out of your way. We're stressed. We'll die on the road, not you. Also, motorists - cyclists can't see you. Your windscreen is reflective. You can wave and gesture and look and yell all you want but your car is just a two ton metal death box and we want to get away from it. Slow down and treat us like a car and it'll be fine. by scarebear__ (Sun 5th Dec 2021 11:07am)
  • Your selective stats are not convincing me Glasgow has careful drivers. I'm on the road every day. I see how little of a shit they give for cyclists. Report from this year - six year high in cyclists fatalities in Scotland. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.scotsman.com/news/transport/alarm-scottish-cycling-deaths-reach-six-year-high-3040984%3famp The Dept of Transport stats for 2018, so pre weird COVID/lockdown distortions of usage show that (p. 17) There were 1.8 fatalities per billion for motorists There were 20 TIMES that for cyclists - 29.7. [Transport stats 2019](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/870647/tsgb-2019.pdf) Some of those people maybe cycled into a canal I guess but the vast majority were involved in car accidents. by scarebear__ (Sun 5th Dec 2021 1:42pm)

  • I use it most days to get to work in Govan on my bike. The climb gets easier after the first 3 years. They've stopped the door entry buzzing thing so sometimes you get cyclists coming down the wrong way (you're meant to go from the entrance near Govan Lidl to go northbound) and that can be a bit dangerous. I saw a human poo there near the Govan exit in the summer, so that was nice. by scarebear__ (Tue 25th Jan 2022 3:58pm)
  • It's not the worst thing I've seen in Govan. by scarebear__ (Tue 25th Jan 2022 4:39pm)

  • Your windscreen is probably reflective too so she may have had no idea you were letting her cross and didn't want to take the risk you'd just start moving again? by scarebear__ (Mon 31st Jan 2022 11:57am)
  • Same as cyclists. We're always going to end up worse off in any miscommunications though. Sometimes I can see a driver doing something in my direction when I'm on my bike but I'm not taking any risks. They're in a 2 ton metal death box, after all. by scarebear__ (Mon 31st Jan 2022 12:23pm)

  • Walked past a Big Issue guy and said "I've already got one, but thanks", then realised he hadn't even spoken to me so I just looked like some prick telling him how virtuous I am. When I first arrived in Glasgow in 1991 there was this guy used to stop people at St Enoch bus station as was and ask for 50p for the bus to Kirkintilloch, I gave it to him then met him every week for the following 6 months when passing that way. by scarebear__ (Wed 20th Apr 2022 12:28pm)

  • Paisley Road is fucking insane. Potholes, drivers just whizzing 2 feet from you, people doing mad turns in the road and not noticing you, people turning off the road into side roads without looking at the inside lane they're crossing. And the fucking car door monsters. I wish I had the guts to just go dead on in the middle of the lane but the aggression from cunts can be fucking scary. by scarebear__ (Fri 29th Apr 2022 4:22pm)
  • Lol, good bit of cyclist unity there. by scarebear__ (Fri 29th Apr 2022 5:03pm)
  • The one on Clarence drive is more dangerous than cycling in the road. by scarebear__ (Fri 29th Apr 2022 7:45pm)
  • People in parked cars who just open their door on you as you pass on your bike. Sometimes they just injure you by hitting you with the door, sometimes they knock you into the other lane. Mostly they blame you either way. by scarebear__ (Fri 29th Apr 2022 9:48pm)

  • How'd it go, OP? I was around the back too in the Orange pen, ended up with a time of 58:37 which I'm thrilled about, as I thought under an hour was beyond me! The redditor who warned about the SECC carpark was not wrong about that, the phlegm or the bollards. Hidden cones near the Armadillo was a fun moment too. Really enjoyed it though. It was great. by scarebear__ (Sun 19th Jun 2022 1:47pm)
