  • Do you a link for this by any chance, I’d be curious to read up on it? by sensiblestan (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 3:41pm)
  • This makes literally no sense??? by sensiblestan (Sun 30th Jan 2022 1:50pm)
  • Theory is that they did it deliberately so they could use it as a function space. by sensiblestan (Wed 16th Feb 2022 7:10pm)
  • Oh god I'm the exact same!! Hope you're doing well! by sensiblestan (Sat 19th Feb 2022 12:37am)
  • But people have always come to Glasgow from all over the country. It’s the poor housing policies and lack of rental protections that have changed. by sensiblestan (Thu 10th Mar 2022 11:52am)
  • You seriously think waving an Irish flag is the same as people singing for us to leave this country?? Seriously?? by sensiblestan (Sun 15th May 2022 12:27pm)
  • Sport isn’t stupid. by sensiblestan (Sun 15th May 2022 12:31pm)
  • Because eBikes are extremely expensive sadly. by sensiblestan (Thu 19th May 2022 12:20pm)
  • Plenty of Glasgow is still flat, especially on the Southside. No excuse not to promote active travel there. by sensiblestan (Thu 19th May 2022 12:20pm)
  • Yeah and that’s atrocious. You can currently get a €9 ticket for a whole months travel in Germany. We’re being shafted. by sensiblestan (Tue 31st May 2022 12:43am)
  • What areas? 75% seems ever so slightly hyperbolic. by sensiblestan (Tue 31st May 2022 12:48am)
  • Are you okay? Stop calling other people liars over nothing. by sensiblestan (Tue 31st May 2022 12:45am)
  • Imagine for a second, just a second, a ring road around the city. Like almost every other city with some sense. by sensiblestan (Tue 31st May 2022 12:51am)
  • They should expand the subway. It’s unacceptable that they’ve never done so in the last hundred years. Failing that, they should keep one line open and close the other for repairs at night, and do so on a rotating schedule. If Glasgow is ever to be treated as a successful international mid-sized city, we need to sort out the gaps in our transport system. I’ve lost count of the amount of people I know from Europe who are so confused by Glasgow’s weird transport when they come here. by sensiblestan (Sun 5th Jun 2022 9:53pm)
  • Nope, more likely that the Glasgow accent is taking over the rest of Scotland sadly. Every young person has to move to a city or the central belt for tertiary education or a future job. by sensiblestan (Thu 9th Jun 2022 12:25pm)
  • That is such rubbish, Detroit and Glasgow are nothing alike and if you knew anything about Detroit today you’d realise this. by sensiblestan (Thu 16th Jun 2022 12:59pm)
  • And that is where the comparison ends. You are forgetting the next 30 subsequent years of history in each respective city. by sensiblestan (Thu 16th Jun 2022 1:00pm)
  • I don’t think your experience is exactly representative. Most people in Glasgow are not considered persona non grata in three quarters of the city. by sensiblestan (Thu 16th Jun 2022 10:35pm)
  • You act like Glasgow is a war zone. by sensiblestan (Fri 17th Jun 2022 12:49am)
  • Detroit has barely recovered, it’s virtually bankrupt. It’s problems are so structural it’s quite saddening. Their collapse as a city dwarfs what happened to Glasgow by orders of magnitude. Glasgow, for all its problems, is doing ridiculously well considering the state we were left in post industrialisation. We love to hate on the place, but this is not the Glasgow my dad grew up in when it was suffering. There is a reason why Glasgow hosted COP26, there is a reason why Finnieston won best area in the UK or whatever, there is a reason why we held the Commonwealth Games, there is a reason why it was voted best place for folk in their 20’s to move to. (even though the last one annoys me since inevitably it just screws us on house prices). by sensiblestan (Fri 17th Jun 2022 12:47am)
  • At least the govt are accountable to us at the ballot box. Private train companies are not. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 10:43am)
  • Refunds are different from delay/delay. You can’t cancel any ticket without a £10 admin fee. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 10:40am)
  • Why are people downvoting this? Firstbus are notorious for making it difficult for customers or anyone unfamiliar with their weird customs. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 11:21am)
  • So insightful. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 11:48am)
  • What if you don’t own a car? Majority of people in Glasgow don’t drive. Only 50% of households have a car. Even humouring you, parking spaces don’t magically appear for 10,000 extra cars. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 11:46am)
  • It’s a bit of both. The current bad service on Scotrail is due to them screwing over their workforce and finally feeling the consequences. by sensiblestan (Sat 18th Jun 2022 12:04pm)
  • They should demolish the Kingston Bridge and replace the M8. by sensiblestan (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 5:24pm)
  • How dare you, I get my local produce from riding my penny farthing to the nearest Waitrose. by sensiblestan (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 8:08pm)
  • That would still lessen the noise. by sensiblestan (Fri 24th Jun 2022 11:18pm)
  • It would quieten the M8. Also you make the argument for why the M8 is bad for residential areas single-handedly with this comment. by sensiblestan (Fri 24th Jun 2022 11:17pm)
  • Short of destroying replacing the M8 and destroying the Kingston Bridge, this is probably the best I can hope for. by sensiblestan (Fri 24th Jun 2022 11:17pm)
  • Why not both? by sensiblestan (Fri 24th Jun 2022 11:24pm)
  • >The issue is that it’s bloody useful having a motorway right into the city That was the same thinking that LA had. Why not cycling and good public transport instead? by sensiblestan (Fri 24th Jun 2022 11:21pm)
  • Such as? by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 12:12am)
  • Billions???? Don’t make things up. by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 12:12am)

  • What cities? by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 2:47pm)
  • Wrong on every level. by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 5:38pm)
  • Imagine, just for a second, that cycling, walking and public transport is better in those cities. Driving in cities isn't even fun or enjoyable anyways, I don't get why people would miss it if given the choice of better alternatives. by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 5:38pm)
  • The first bus app is terrible and barely gives you the correct info. by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 5:55pm)
  • For you personally, or for everyone? by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 7:37pm)
  • The app is rubbish and unreliable. by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 8:04pm)
  • >At least youse get to get off the bus - they dont ETA and every time you flag a bus down just to ask if it goes to a certain destination, you are adding more unnecessary delay onto that drivers route, Have you ever wondered why people ask if the bus goes to a certain destination? by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 8:03pm)
  • What street furniture should we get rid of? by sensiblestan (Sat 25th Jun 2022 8:31pm)

  • Bearsden is overrated anyways. by sensiblestan (Sun 26th Jun 2022 12:33am)
  • Plenty of industries and jobs engage with drunk people, yet no one tips them. Do you tip bouncers, paramedics, train conductors, bus drivers or even the police? >Yeah but for the most part retail and supermarket staff aren’t working till midnight and dealing with drunk self entitled rude arseholes. That is not the reason why tips exist. by sensiblestan (Mon 27th Jun 2022 11:43am)
  • The GoMA is normally open till 8pm on Thursdays. by sensiblestan (Tue 28th Jun 2022 3:47pm)
  • Agreed, Glasgow really needs more squares and smaller pocket parks. Its insane how few places there are in the central area of the city for people to just sit. by sensiblestan (Thu 30th Jun 2022 6:09pm)

  • Nope, they literally have and will be there next month to discuss the plans with locals. by sensiblestan (Tue 12th Jul 2022 1:55pm)
  • >(like lowering an underground railway line) Why lower it? >to cover and/or replace These are two very very different things. A cover would be nothing near a billion, not even close. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 8:52am)
  • Of all the examples you could've picked, and you picked this one? The differences are so astronomical between even the big dig and the absolute worst case most expensive option for Glasgow. Tbh it's also pretty disingenuous when the current proposal is a small roof over an area maybe two or three football pitches large. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 8:50am)
  • You are not the public. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 11:39am)
  • I’m from Bearsden, and I approve this message!! Bearsden, Milngavie and Giffnock are tax robbing bastards. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 11:36am)
  • Then be in favour of cycle lanes. It protects pedestrians. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 12:54pm)
  • Then be in favour of cycle lanes by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 12:56pm)
  • And your point? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 12:55pm)
  • The reason for that is it can be dangerous for cyclist to reenter the road after the cycle lane. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 1:02pm)
  • It literally is the solution. Have you ever wondered why they might cycle on the pavement? Almost like the problem isn't your means of transport at all but rather some people are just simply arseholes. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:09pm)
  • That is literally what cyclists want. They want cycle lanes. You are arguing against yourself. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:08pm)
  • Then be in favour of more cycle lanes that connect up. A cycle lane for 100 metres is useless. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:12pm)
  • So what is your solution to this? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:11pm)
  • Do you think cars drivers who speed and go through red lights represent all drivers? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:11pm)
  • What type of cycle path was it? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:21pm)
  • I'll rephrase, do you think cyclists who speed and ride on pavements represent all cyclists? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 4:35pm)
  • Why do you think they are on the pavements? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 5:51pm)
  • Yet there they are. Why do you think that is? by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 6:03pm)
  • Why do you think they might be on the pavement, hypothetically? Have a guess. Btw, your own link includes this. >Don't cycle on the pavement unless it's a designated shared surface for pedestrians and cyclists or a core path. Which is not the same thing as: >Pavements are a space for pedestrians, so please keep the fuck off it. by sensiblestan (Wed 13th Jul 2022 6:25pm)
  • In Netherlands they took away red lights for cyclists because they weren’t needed (in some places) Red lights are designed to control cars, and heavy vehicles, and nothing else. by sensiblestan (Thu 14th Jul 2022 12:56am)
  • Do you have a link for the pedestrianised city centre core plans on the off chance? by sensiblestan (Mon 18th Jul 2022 8:09pm)
  • A free one? by sensiblestan (Thu 21st Jul 2022 12:25am)
  • Glasgow has terrible public transport. by sensiblestan (Sun 24th Jul 2022 8:33pm)

  • a place can be developed yet soulless, like Hamilton. by sensiblestan (Mon 8th Aug 2022 1:32am)
  • Nah it's just you. Glasgow is doing fine relative to other places. by sensiblestan (Mon 8th Aug 2022 1:31am)
  • What parts of campus did they take away student parking? by sensiblestan (Tue 9th Aug 2022 12:54am)
  • That’s crazy they would stop. by sensiblestan (Tue 9th Aug 2022 11:11am)
  • Barely anyone lives in the city centre, only 20,000 compared to 600,000 within the city boundaries. Country parks are not the same as a town. Almost certainly when most folk refer to place being souless or crap it's due to the poor town centre and lack of amenities there. I'd wager most people to Hamilton because it's affordable, not because it's the best location or environment for amenities. Those housing estates are car centric islands, all they do is add car traffic to the place outside of Hamilton they work or socialise in. Hamilton would've been much better served by created houses that are community orientated and walkable to amenities and public transport. by sensiblestan (Tue 9th Aug 2022 7:46pm)
  • What’s MMR? by sensiblestan (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:23pm)

  • They’re not banning those cars, it’s private cars that would be prohibited. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:23pm)
  • Buchanan Street is already pedestrianised… by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:22pm)
  • Why would it make it worse? by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:21pm)
  • Not even a crazy opinion, it’s the plan the council has for 2030. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:21pm)
  • You’d park in one of the many many car parks. When you mean directly to the office are you meaning parking directly outside? Literally every car user is a pedestrian after they park. The concept of the ‘last mile’ is one of many good arguments for pedestrianising the city centre. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:27pm)
  • I’ve grown up in the west end my entire life and I can easily confirm you are talking rubbish. I could talk to my parents, my friends, colleagues and also get them to confirm this if you want? by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:34pm)
  • How many spaces are there? Is it on street parking or a car park? by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:32pm)
  • There will be exemption for stuff like this. Same for work vans and disabled people etc. Not like they’re will be a security guard on the outskirts of the city centre barring them from entering. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:32pm)
  • That’s an extreme waste of space. Where in the city centre is this? I find it weird that a ground car park is in the city centre. Gross waste of real estate. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:36pm)
  • Have far are you willing to walk from a car park to your office? by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:43pm)
  • I’ll try and find a link but it’s the councils future plan after the avenues get done. However, them saying this and them actually doing it are completely separate things😂. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:41pm)
  • That’ll probably not change. It’s the grid area that will most likely be pedestrianised. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 4:46pm)
  • Okay I’ll humour you, in your opinion what made it so shit in the early 2000’s? by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 5:26pm)
  • That’s very fair. I’m dreaming of a 24 rail service. I’d settle for 1am on weekdays and 4am on weekends for now if they did increase times. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 5:33pm)
  • Interesting, you have a link by any chance? I wonder if it’s anything to with how visually interesting the walk is and also how pedestrian friendly it is. by sensiblestan (Wed 17th Aug 2022 8:13pm)
  • Where should they go then? by sensiblestan (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 11:12am)
  • How will you sort climate change without cyclists? by sensiblestan (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 2:52pm)
  • And how do you propose to reduce transport emissions and climate change if we don’t encourage cycling as a mode of transport? by sensiblestan (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 6:21pm)
  • They are building some bars and restaurants besides the casino on the waterfront soon. by sensiblestan (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 12:15pm)
  • Hmm, so cars don’t cause traffic or congestion then? You know nothing of the problems EV cars would still cause. It’s either that or you don’t care. by sensiblestan (Wed 24th Aug 2022 5:12am)
  • Have you heard of cycle lanes? by sensiblestan (Thu 25th Aug 2022 1:40am)
  • This basically incentivises drinking alcohol. Being a non-drinker and still being ripped off is not going to serve bars well in the long run. by sensiblestan (Mon 19th Sep 2022 2:40pm)
  • It’s a good point. Though I’d wager with the decrease in drinking amongst the younger generations they’d be wise to diversify their drinking options. by sensiblestan (Tue 20th Sep 2022 12:37pm)
  • True that, still feel £3.50 is pushing it for a can of coke. by sensiblestan (Tue 20th Sep 2022 2:00pm)
  • This is literally NIMBY logic 101 by sensiblestan (Wed 21st Sep 2022 1:04am)

  • What did he say? by sensiblestan (Tue 27th Sep 2022 5:11pm)
  • What a shame for you. by sensiblestan (Fri 7th Oct 2022 8:26pm)
  • The SEC and the Hydro are pretty world famous for their event hosting abilities, they routinely win awards for this pretty much every year. 14,000 tourists into the city plus full hotels is hardly something that is bad for a cities economy. Remortgaging a building doesn’t contradict hosting a big event than brings in revenue and increases the city’s international reputation. by sensiblestan (Fri 7th Oct 2022 8:30pm)
  • These things all happened very recently, how can you say they haven’t worked in the long-term? What do you define as long-term, 1 year? The shit public transport has got nothing to do with money in regards to what the city council has powers to do. If you’re wanting transformational change such as in the proposed Clyde Metro proposal then that is coming from the national coffers. Local councils don’t have the money raising powers or ring fenced control for those type of developments sadly. If Glasgow won the Eurovision bid, what are they paying the organisers for? I’m genuinely curious here, Eurovision is coming to the hydro. If anything I would’ve though the organisers would be paying the Hydro and their company. Unless you have the numbers to reinforce your argument, I’m very disinclined to support limiting the international reputation of Glasgow by knocking back hosting events because of a slightly more evolved version of the ‘why don’t they fix the roads first’ argument. Eurovision would almost certainly be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any city, especially considering the UK has for my lifetime been terrible at the show. by sensiblestan (Fri 7th Oct 2022 10:34pm)
  • We were in the final two…by your own logic we are therefore the one of the best locations for events in the UK, at the very least. Unless you think Liverpool are undeserving. Glasgow is already considered a world class events location despite it’s transport issues. Plus the city council owns 91% of the holding company that runs SEC You should look up the stats for the Hydro. by sensiblestan (Sat 8th Oct 2022 1:11am)
  • It’s patently obvious we would if it was awarded. How have other cities managed to do it? This is the literally just hosting an event in existing infrastructure. by sensiblestan (Sat 8th Oct 2022 1:26am)
  • What do you define as good service? by sensiblestan (Tue 18th Oct 2022 5:37pm)

  • What does specific houses mean? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:07am)
  • What would you change? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:10am)
  • Sometimes it’s a short lived trend. Year on year Finnieston consumes more and more of the West End and a year after the Govan Partick bridge is finished we will probably be calling Govan South West Finnieston. by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:24am)
  • Related note, Google Maps gives an outline of areas now. Defos helps with this sort of debate. For example, this is what they give for Partick. https://i.imgur.com/sgSKHdC.jpg by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:22am)
  • This is common for all good public schools though. by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:28am)
  • That’s it? So you wouldn’t change the catchment? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:25am)
  • Those new builds are expensive houses and everyone who lives in them is loaded though. They were built with no commitment to having a school place provided since you can’t just expect a school to somehow accommodate 400 extra homes and presumably up to 400 extra school places with no extra funding. Don’t hate the school, hate the system that enables this lack of joined up thinking between all levels of government, housing planning and education. by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:34am)
  • These exact same problems have happened with Bearsden Academy… by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:31am)
  • What do you think is a catchment area? Plus can every school just suddenly expand to take in 100 extra pupils as a result of new builds that were built with no guarantee or coordination of being in the catchment? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:38am)
  • It’s because the catchment is massively over subscribed by around 60%. by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 10:38am)
  • Why do you think they get too much funding currently? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 11:11am)
  • And your point? What is the functional difference difference between a comprehensive and a public school that relates to the matter of this discussion? by sensiblestan (Mon 24th Oct 2022 1:57pm)
  • What a lazy reply. by sensiblestan (Wed 26th Oct 2022 1:45pm)
  • Thank you for revealing your personality. by sensiblestan (Wed 26th Oct 2022 4:31pm)
  • Something is wrong with you. What is the functional difference difference between a comprehensive and a public school that relates to the matter of this discussion? by sensiblestan (Wed 26th Oct 2022 5:48pm)
  • I hope you don’t have conversations with people in person like how you do on here, I hope you don’t stop someone mid-conversation just to say I have now received the information from somewhere else but will reveal nothing else to you. So kind. I hope you have a fantastic evening. > I genuinely have no desire to interact with you, because you seem unable to play the ball, not the man, so to speak- so move on. This coming from the person not answering the question…you’re a joke. All you had to do was the answer the question but instead you were belittling and dismissive. The ball was the question and you never played it… But of course, since you said ‘have a lovely evening’ that makes you a good person. Hope you have a lovely evening. by sensiblestan (Wed 26th Oct 2022 6:09pm)
  • With all my heart and soul, you’re welcome. In the future, answer the question. by sensiblestan (Wed 26th Oct 2022 6:41pm)

  • Have you considered a world where that travel could happen by train? by sensiblestan (Mon 28th Nov 2022 1:46pm)
  • So you don’t like walking anything over 5 minutes? Are you able to park right outside your workplace door in the city centre?? How feasible and efficient do you think that is for a city? by sensiblestan (Mon 28th Nov 2022 8:03pm)
  • >I don’t work in the city centre…that’s THE point ie not everyone works 9-5 in the city centre and the nearest train station to me almost a mile away. So your point that not everyone works in the city centre is… to defend building a massive motorway though to the city centre? Have you considered alternative options like doing this with good public transport like in Europe? Have you considered a world where there is closer public transport to you than a mile away? Have you considered the Clyde Metro plans? Now obviously this can’t happen overnight but your refusal to even consider any other possibility for how a city is designed and moves it people around os quite something. Not only are cars worse for the environment, they load the cost onto the individual and price out half of the Glasgow population when all the investment has being going onto the roads. Would you be happy with a future where you could get into town in 15 minutes via train, or do you want to keep saying no to a better future? Should Glasgow have more cars or trains? by sensiblestan (Mon 28th Nov 2022 10:12pm)

  • Nope, I’m not guessing. Hence why I asked. What do you mean by woke stuff? by sensiblestan (Fri 6th Jan 2023 12:08pm)
  • You guys are fantastic with your general buzzwords, is any question now sealioning to someone like you? 'Woke' is such an ill-defined, overused term that now seemingly is used as a cover for a broad range of things, then yes it is perfectly acceptable to ask the poster what they mean by 'woke'. Especially when they haven't given an example with any actual specifics... by sensiblestan (Fri 6th Jan 2023 5:44pm)
  • Hmm, you realise it's you who is bringing this up again and messaged me? You're not even the original commenter... (It was heavily downvoted because of that dumb aside...) . Anyways, you're right. I'm not gonna waste any energy on someone like you who keeps replying to me to say I am wasting my energy... I'd rather hear the actual views of the original commentator and not some weird backup who is hypocritically focusing on said 'dumb aside'. >you're now 24 into fishing for some kind of gotcha Btw, asking a question of someone and them not replying after a certain time whilst I go about my life is perfectly fine. You seem to be living in a world of assumptions and clock-watching on here which is unhealthy. Only reason I am back on this thread is because YOU replied... Not sure your cost-benefit skills are up to scratch. For example, half the reason the Dutch were able to bring out their massive change towards cycling and public transport was because of the number of children that were being killed by cars. by sensiblestan (Mon 27th Mar 2023 12:14am)
