  • Thanks the James Kelman sounds especially interesting. by stuckist (Mon 29th Apr 2019 11:31am)
  • Thanks some interesting suggestions there, I live about 2 minutes from Espedair St and have never read it so should really do so! by stuckist (Mon 29th Apr 2019 11:30am)
  • We go up to glasgow on a Sunday a couple of times a month we would see a film at the GFT and eat out at a city restaurant, maybe pop into waterstones and buy a new book. Where we live public transport is off early on a Sunday so it looks like we will be heading to Silverburn or Braehead now sadly or just stay in. Not well thought out. by stuckist (Tue 14th May 2019 11:35pm)
  • Thank you thats all really interesting and informative, much appreciated! by stuckist (Thu 16th Jan 2020 5:25pm)
  • sorry, don't quite get you? I seen it on the news but no detail on it. by stuckist (Thu 12th Mar 2020 5:34pm)
  • the kings have capacity for over 1000 but as of yet no news by stuckist (Thu 12th Mar 2020 5:43pm)
  • exactly, would be helpful to have some detail, so people can adjust plans by stuckist (Thu 12th Mar 2020 5:52pm)
  • Is it safe to go to a family gathering in glasgow this weekend? I'll be seen as a sad sack if I don't go but I'm worried and think it should be called off, downside is that would mean isolation for older relatives, what should I do? by stuckist (Tue 17th Mar 2020 3:27pm)
  • Thanks, I want to see them and want to go but don't want to for fear they'll end up ill. People coming who have young kids in nursery. I'll be the bad guy if i don't go! by stuckist (Tue 17th Mar 2020 3:33pm)
  • Yeah thats great your mum is onboard with it all, mine isn't and doesn't want to "stop living her life" over this. I'm noticing many pensioners have a similer attitude, I'm really worried about how things will be in a week or two :( by stuckist (Tue 17th Mar 2020 3:35pm)
  • I am under huge pressure to go :( hopefully the government will make an announcement to further deter it or I grow a pair! by stuckist (Tue 17th Mar 2020 4:06pm)
  • I agree but so hard to say no to people you love in this situation. The government really need to mandate against it officially or people will not listen or be emotionally blackmailed into doing things against their better judgement. by stuckist (Tue 17th Mar 2020 4:25pm)
  • Hope your joking here, because my neighbours don't like us very much after we complained about them being obnoxious arseholes, literally throwing shit into our garden. by stuckist (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 11:23am)
  • Thanks, I have amazon prime so will try them. by stuckist (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 12:06pm)
  • I have amazon prime, thank you! by stuckist (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 12:05pm)
  • I agree! by stuckist (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 12:05pm)
  • Is there any indication from medical staff at the hospital of how wide spread Covid-19 is within the local community in the Greater Glasgow area, any particular hot spots? by stuckist (Mon 6th Apr 2020 9:37am)
  • Just a note on hospital admissions. I am due to go in for testing due to abnormal bleeding (tmi). Thats something that is potentially quite serious. I haven’t heard a date from the hospital yet (due last month sometime) but I haven’t chased it up because I thought everything was on hold due to Covid19. I am worried about my health though. I also know of many others who have had medical treatment delayed indefinitely due to covid19 in the Glasgow area. by stuckist (Mon 6th Apr 2020 9:42am)
  • Thanks for answering and for doing your job, take care! Just to add I have thought that as we in Scotland entered lockdown and social distancing in line with London where they seem to be a few weeks ahead of us in terms of infection spread that hopefully Scotland and other parts of the U.K. will have a less serious outbreak. But that all remains to be seen. by stuckist (Mon 6th Apr 2020 9:50am)
  • I’ll call my GP as see if they can look into it. Thanks. by stuckist (Mon 6th Apr 2020 10:01am)
  • I was in there a few times and it was always pretty rubbish. In fact I've never heard anyone say anything good about the place. by stuckist (Sun 12th Apr 2020 6:36pm)
  • Venus has been very visable and bright in the night sky for quite few weeks now. Its an amazing sight! by stuckist (Wed 6th May 2020 6:15am)
  • Thanks for this. I think I'll arrange to have them picked up and dropped off initally just in case. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 8:35pm)
  • Sounds grim, glad you're finding its getting a bit better! by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 8:59pm)
  • I suppose glasgow has been bad in some ways for years now, perhaps removing all the workers and shoppers is just showing that up more. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 9:00pm)
  • I guess that makes sense, I'm just worried with less people about anyone who is walking about or waiting for a bus will be more of a target. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:37pm)
  • Interesting take, thanks for posting. I'm feeling a bit better now about things but will still organise a lift for my partner when I can't do it myself at least for the next wee while. Looking forward to your "massive shite up a close" thread! by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:36pm)
  • That part of town has a "history", you're right that they need to clean it up. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:42pm)
  • I did wonder right at the start of this what sort of effect the lockdown would have on drug users and the people who beg in the city centres as few people would be about to beg from. Sounds like it is a bit desperate for them. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:45pm)
  • Shit, sorry to hear that, sounds horrible for you having to dodge all that. I think guys can sometimes forget that certain situations can feel and be more threatening for women. I might take a drive up tomorrow and check it out for myself and see whats best. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:52pm)
  • I always felt Glasgow was a city which got a bad press but for the most part it was safe unless you went looking for trouble. It does sound like that's not really the case at the moment but hopefully it's only temporary. I used to live in townhead and never felt unsafe but I'm hearing bad things at the moment. by stuckist (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:55pm)
  • We took our car to the Hillington MOT centre based on recommendations from locals. They did need to do a bit of work (our car is pretty old) but it was only £30 for the part and labour, we didn't feel ripped off. by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 11:31am)
  • No way, do yout think I'm mad! Lol, perhaps I will in the spring. Although I'd scared I might bump into Iain Duncan Smith. by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 12:02pm)
  • Thats very true! by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 12:07pm)
  • Thank you for this nuanced reply it does help me put my own memories and experiance into perspective. I suppose it would have been quite a different experiance to be a teenager or young adult in the area as opposed to a child. My parents said that everyone who could get out did get out but not everyone was able, like my gran who was poor and and didn't want to leave the neighbours she'd had for years. I'm glad to hear the area is better now, I believe they knocked down lot of the worst flats like the one I was in as a kid so I hope the housing situation isn't' as bad now. I will need to go back at some point. by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 12:13pm)
  • Lol, not heard about Bruce Morton for years! Yeah Scheme doesn't sound great even the term "projects" sounds better or does it? by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 12:28pm)
  • You're right, my gran was widowed and homeless with 4 young children when she got offered a flat in Easterhouse and I think she was immensely grateful to have a place to live. People forget that Labour did a lot of good when they were in power. They were not perfect by any means but at least they didn't lift people out of poverty by merely changing the definition of it like the tories, they did real things like rebuild schools and upgrade homes. Its been very interesting to hear your take on things. by stuckist (Mon 7th Dec 2020 1:39pm)
  • Some parts of Glasgow are pretty grim and its been worse in the past year due to the pandemic partly because less "normal" people are about to dilute the loonies, so your getting concentrated neds and jakeys. Living in an urban area in Glasgow probably isn't ideal for your personality type. I used to live in townhead when I was young and didn't like it, now I live out of the city centre in renfrewshire and its much nicer and suits my nature better, much less stressful. by stuckist (Tue 18th May 2021 2:44pm)
  • A lot of it is due to the pandemic for sure, the average joe isn't about so the glasgow wildlife is roaming free, its not a true picture of the city in normal times. by stuckist (Tue 18th May 2021 2:50pm)
  • Well done for holding on to the girl, you did great. Its so hard when you are young, everything seems so big, so final, when you get older you realise that everything passes and its easier however painful to put things into perspective. If there was one thing I wish I could give to young people it would be this realisation. We also need far better mental health provision so that nobody needs to end up feeling this way. by stuckist (Tue 18th May 2021 4:38pm)
  • Thanks! by stuckist (Tue 18th May 2021 5:32pm)
  • Ah cool, thats great I will keep an eye out! by stuckist (Tue 18th May 2021 5:53pm)
  • I preferred the old vintage looking subways before the renovations by stuckist (Thu 10th Jun 2021 9:44am)
  • Yeah they are breeding in exterior food bins round here and just fly in any open window, I was in the shower yesterday and could see them flying in when I opened the window to let the steam out. We didn’t have the problem when food bins were collected every week and the bins were smaller and easier to clean out. Perhaps the weather is part of the issue being so warm and humid. Lots of house flies coming in as well. Definitely have to keep things really clean to deter them. by stuckist (Mon 12th Sep 2022 12:44pm)
  • Yeah its not cool, luckily the colder weather seems to be doing them in so finally able to have a shower by myself! by stuckist (Sun 18th Sep 2022 3:37pm)
  • You can usually get a seperate service that irons your clothes, most do a pick up and drop off too. I think cleaners would do what you ask but mostly they are there to clean not tidy or organise. If things are bad then perhaps organise a one off deep clean and organising service then hire a weekly cleaner to help keep on top of things. by stuckist (Sat 19th Nov 2022 1:52pm)
  • Theft of vans and tools is awful though, it devastated my bils earnings when it happened to him. I think his van was stolen to put the engine into a taxi cab and of course his tools were knocked to. Not everyone has a lock up or a safe place to keep them. by stuckist (Thu 19th Jan 2023 4:51pm)
  • Often that's dependent on having a place to lock up tools and not everyone has that so they take what they can inside and hope for the best. Insurance settlements don't always compensate in real terms. Also the existence of insurance doesn't make it a victimless crime. by stuckist (Thu 19th Jan 2023 10:30pm)
