  • I just got back from visiting a friend in Spean Bridge. The Highlands train line (Glasgow to Mallaig) is BEAUTIFUL. Like, you could get off at any stop from Helensburgh north and have a blast. Bonus points if you get off the train at Corrour, the most remote station in the UK (was in Trainspotting, no road access, only 1 remote cafe/youth hostel there, lots of midges). Have fun, hope you find some adventures by tartanbiscuits (Tue 28th Jul 2020 8:52pm)
  • I felt very safe, everyone was wearing their masks and keeping a good distance between seats. I took my mask off to eat lunch but other people were doing the same and no one seemed to mind. I didn't use the on train toilet but other people were. I think just remember the main rules and you'll be fine (wear mask, wash hands/sanitize frequently, and respect distance). And don't forget to remind people! When I got the train home I was so tired and zoned out I forgot the distancing measures and sat right behind a lady, but she asked me very politely to move which I did of course. No problems at all. by tartanbiscuits (Wed 29th Jul 2020 8:52am)
  • I always thought it was an ice cream sandwich type thing! by tartanbiscuits (Mon 10th Aug 2020 11:28am)
  • Do you take commissions? I have a pub in mind that would make a nice gift as a drawing/illustration by tartanbiscuits (Mon 24th Aug 2020 10:22pm)
  • Beautiful! Love the Pot Still by tartanbiscuits (Mon 24th Aug 2020 10:21pm)
  • There is an entrance in the Botanics itself, near to the halfpenny bridge exit, but it's got massive locked gates. We used to go in that way when in high school but I think the security measures have increased since then! by tartanbiscuits (Sat 29th Aug 2020 8:57am)
  • I agree! by tartanbiscuits (Thu 1st Oct 2020 4:14pm)
  • I think so, it looks like it's embossed on the actual box itself. I'll look next time I'm down Byres Road! by tartanbiscuits (Thu 1st Oct 2020 7:47pm)
  • I live in a tenement and we've designated an area of the back court that people are putting hard rubbish for council uplift. There was a whole lotta stuff out there during covid, but GCC actually came and got it all a few weeks ago. Maybe check again with them? Or ask your neighbours if you can temporarily leave it outside? by tartanbiscuits (Mon 5th Oct 2020 11:07pm)
  • I'm not sure but I walked down Belmont Street Bridge and they had literally picked up a parked car and removed it on a tow truck as it was in the way of their cordoned off area. Seemed a bit extreme! by tartanbiscuits (Wed 7th Oct 2020 8:21pm)
  • Hahaha! I'm sure he's weeping into his golden tea cup as we speak by tartanbiscuits (Mon 19th Oct 2020 8:13pm)
  • Maybe creepy is the wrong word. It just felt eerie walking down it when it's so quiet and empty. It's usually full of life and vibrant! by tartanbiscuits (Mon 19th Oct 2020 9:37pm)
  • Second that! You could phone them and ask if they could do a same day service? by tartanbiscuits (Wed 21st Oct 2020 11:22am)
  • Thank you, I'll have a look :) by tartanbiscuits (Sun 25th Oct 2020 9:46am)
  • Actually, that rings a bell, I think that's the one I read about last year! by tartanbiscuits (Sun 25th Oct 2020 9:02pm)
  • Within the Glasgow boundaries are the Kilpatrick hills (I think). You can get the train to Old Kilpatrick (on the same line as Helensburgh) and literally just head up to get lost in these smallish hills. Not super foresty but nice views and hard to actually get lost. by tartanbiscuits (Sun 1st Nov 2020 9:07am)
  • Pizza Punks. Turned up over an hour late, cold and hardly any toppings despite their " unlimited toppings" shtick by tartanbiscuits (Wed 18th Nov 2020 3:59pm)
  • That's great! Maybe I they just had a bad night when I ordered. But still, consistency of quality should be important by tartanbiscuits (Wed 18th Nov 2020 5:07pm)
  • As a resident of Kelvinside, please don't park here. There's enough cars already without commuters coming in trying to get free parking. Try public transport if you want to save money? by tartanbiscuits (Thu 10th Dec 2020 2:26pm)
  • That's ok, it has just been a long term problem in the area but there'll be permit parking introduced anyway next year. You could have a look and see if there's any early bird parking deals at the local car parks? If not, park in Kelvinside/Kirklee but do try to park respectfully (I'm sure you will 🙂) as the main issue is people parking in service lanes/on blind corners/double yellows x by tartanbiscuits (Thu 10th Dec 2020 4:03pm)
  • I really like it! It's like an ideal imagining of what Glasgow could be like if we had the right amount of investment in public transport. by tartanbiscuits (Fri 11th Dec 2020 9:17pm)
  • I was at the farmers market this morning in Partick. There was a great butcher stall with loads of venison, lamb and beef. The market is back there next Saturday. by tartanbiscuits (Sat 12th Dec 2020 4:57pm)

  • As far as I'm aware the Winter Gardens has been closed for a while (even before covid) with no reopening date confirmed. I think there's extensive work to be done but issues with funding. by tartanbiscuits (Mon 28th Dec 2020 2:23pm)
  • I saw this a few hours ago. Gave me mega anxiety looking at him 😧 by tartanbiscuits (Sat 27th Mar 2021 3:02pm)
  • Mortgage underwriter here- you are right that a lot of lenders won't lend on a property like this. They view it as a risky security (if you default it may be hard for them to resell the property and get their money back), some won't lend at all, some will require a lower LTV. That being said, there will be a bank out there who will lend on it but rates may be a bit higher. The way I see it (this is personal opinion only, I'm not an advisor!) is it depends on how you view this property. Do you absolutely love it, it suits your needs and you fully see yourself living there long term? Then it may be worth the risk. If not, your concerns about resale value and having trouble remortgaging in the future may need to be considered further (are properties in the area selling well? Similar flats above retail premises selling quickly?) by tartanbiscuits (Thu 8th Apr 2021 9:28am)
  • Get the bus to Luss and can do Beinn Dubh - a great wee hill with nowhere near as many crowds as Ben Lomond on the other side of the loch by tartanbiscuits (Thu 29th Apr 2021 8:56pm)

  • Freehold tenure doesn't actually existing Scotland, it's Feudal. Many lenders who do not lend on freehold flats in England and Wales will offer mortgages in Scotland for non-leasehold flats. by tartanbiscuits (Mon 3rd May 2021 2:18pm)
  • Really? I'm a mortgage underwriter and all applications for Scottish mortgages are marked as feudal. Maybe it's an outdated system!! by tartanbiscuits (Mon 3rd May 2021 3:38pm)
  • I live near the children's wood on Clouston St in the West End. My toddler LOVES it. Mud kitchen, wood sculptures, tree houses, rope swings... What more could you want? Unless you hate mud. Then don't go there! by tartanbiscuits (Thu 6th May 2021 8:18pm)
  • I'm pretty sure the conservation rules don't apply to back windows, only the front. by tartanbiscuits (Fri 18th Jun 2021 7:54am)
  • I was going to come and say this! Got prescribed this a few years ago and I get it every spring/summer now. It's the only thing that works for me. by tartanbiscuits (Tue 29th Jun 2021 10:21pm)
  • Just to point out that you don't have to do the whole walk in one go. It can easily be done in stages as most of the sections are accessible by public transport. I don't have a huge amount of free time so have been doing it in stages over the last few months. It means you can enjoy the scenery and the walk without having to carry a huge bag! by tartanbiscuits (Tue 6th Jul 2021 10:20pm)

  • The outside car park at the back of Maryhill Tesco. There's a big bit farthest away from the store that rarely has parked cars in it so good for practice. by tartanbiscuits (Sun 1st Aug 2021 9:55pm)

  • I served Ally McCoist a salad at a restaurant in Princes Square I worked at when I was younger. He sent it back because it had red onion in it (which was on the menu) and demanded one with white onions... tool by tartanbiscuits (Wed 8th Sep 2021 3:42pm)
  • Could've been stolen though? by tartanbiscuits (Sun 12th Sep 2021 4:12pm)

  • Crow Road by Iain Banks? Its only partly set in Glasgow but such a good read. Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart is great too but not exactly fun holiday reading! by tartanbiscuits (Fri 10th Dec 2021 10:11pm)
