  • He's not wrong, a limited knowledge of the city will tell you about the massive wealth built off the 18th century triangular trade network, Robert Burns was even going to work as an overseer in a Jamaican slave plantation. The Clyde was literally terraformed due to trade generated to accommodate more cargo ships. People from Glasgow have such a massive chip on their shoulder about Westminster but are completely ignorant of the history of their own city, astonishing. Check the street names for a start. https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/scots-fact-of-the-day-robert-burns-and-jamaica-1-3666374 by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 6:36pm)
  • I'm not sure exactly what model of reparations he had in mind but it wouldn't make sense for reparations to take the form of austerity policy, since it would affect institutions that still benefit from historic genocide/slavery the least and those who are most vulnerable the most, which isn't the point. Rather than target public owned institutions or individuals, large private interest companies would maybe pay additional corporation or trade tax, since the wealth generated by the slave trade in the first place was private enterprise. This is really about net societal benefit too since effects resulting from generational poverty negatively impact the economy. by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 7:13pm)
  • Nobodys asking to, in fact it's better they stay that way since it offers a window into the cities colonial past for those with limited understanding. by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 7:24pm)
  • There's a social democratic economic case to be made alongside the social justice one, you should do some research into the undeveloped countries involved in the triangular trade network and generational poverty to get a better understanding by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 7:35pm)
  • Yeh I was being a bit facetious by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 7:46pm)
  • An economic case for reperations in principle, based on the net drain generational poverty has (which is nationalised rather than privatised). Obviously each scenario is different, the case in the us for descendants of slaves and impoverished black communities for example, is different to underdeveloped countries which were subjected to colonial resource exploitation. by winking_scone (Sun 17th Feb 2019 8:07pm)

  • Great, it's for a sculpture installation that will amplify the sound of a viscous liquid falling onto acrylic. I have tried using non-powered contact mics but I think it needs additional 9v since the sound of the impact I'm looking to amplify live is actually very quiet. • bcus america is the only country with systemic racism by winking_scone (Mon 8th Jun 2020 12:30pm)
  • Technically they mean different things for a pedant, your explanation of the term systematic actually validates its usage here though. Your comments here reflect the kind of attitude which motivated this post. by winking_scone (Mon 8th Jun 2020 4:08pm)
  • I had actually intended to post systemic in the title however these casual experiences are just as important as the examples you mention, especially because it's the kind of thing that is easy to deny or gaslight over by winking_scone (Mon 8th Jun 2020 4:16pm)
  • I mean it was specifically the idea that racism amounts to offending people more than your dictionary ownership, i doubt there is a causal relationship by winking_scone (Mon 8th Jun 2020 4:28pm)
  • This is very interesting thanks for sharing, I am white and from Glasgow, it seems that casual racism along with a denial that racism exists institutionally commonly go together here by winking_scone (Mon 8th Jun 2020 4:33pm)

  • Glasgow is a racist city to it's core, i hope we can begin to realise this and not immediately go on the defensive by winking_scone (Mon 15th Jun 2020 8:51pm)
  • there is a subscription service i used to use dont know if its still available but u would parcel the roll up and send to it to a depot, they would put them in a warehouse with other rolls with industrial dehumidifiers, there was a next day or 2 hour service and you could track the moisture removal progress with an app, i dont eat carbohydrates anymore so havent used in a while though. • I mean I am concerned about it from health/wellbeing pint, due to the residual effects of lockdown it's really shaved off a lot of social interaction and I'm noticing that it's possible to go this duration without actually speaking by winking_scone (Sun 20th Sep 2020 4:22pm)
  • I'm sure there are, this who Im quite worried for atm, are you finding just now particularly hard? by winking_scone (Sun 20th Sep 2020 5:10pm)
  • Lol at ppl making and liking graffiti being left wing, obv u never been to an orange pub by winking_scone (Thu 8th Oct 2020 12:08am)
  • There's majority discontent with Tories in Glasgow so i would say it's reflecting the room, graffiti is also very authentic, its a valid form of expression that everyone is entitled to perform and often exists simply as a reaction to the privatisation of public space But for me the giant wall murals with exception of maybe the St Mungo one are really tiresome and shite, they are visually striking and intuitive uses of public space though that isn't about marketisation so I in principle for me they are good still! by winking_scone (Thu 8th Oct 2020 8:55am)
  • Pretty grim attitude to have towards ppl who are likely to be vulnerable, suffer from wealth/education inequality and predominantly working or lower class by winking_scone (Sun 21st Feb 2021 11:20pm)
  • "there's nothing about wealth inequality or vulnerability that stops ppl from being reality deniers", u heard about the vaccine uptake among bame population? Fkn hell and you post on acab too by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 7:50am)
  • Lol that has nothing to do with it. It's the same reason bame communities are skeptical about the vaccine, it's a class issue of education among other more complex things that dispose ppl to these beliefs or there's a strong correlation. Literally wishing death on what ur likely to find is disadvantaged ppl is a pretty nasty/conservative attitude by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 8:35am)
  • Did u just ignore my comparison to bame community vaccine uptake to make the point it's about **education inequality** among **many other complex class issues**. Another comment seemed to suggest these ppl were recognised to come have from Glasgow North, don't see many Newton Mearns cunts mixed in there by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 8:51am)
  • ...whose boot lol by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 9:18am)
  • Bame ppl are more likely to experience disadvantages of wealth/education. It's a common Tory talking point to obfuscate the class inequalities of race by switching the focus to skin colour rather than societal issues that are the cause by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 9:33am)
  • Yeh I post in sino & r/communism too lol ur literally wishing death on disadvantaged ppl man, if ur posting in acab u should know better, save ur death wishes for cops by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 9:48am)
  • Libs gotta lib by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 10:07am)
  • Yep I'm using the bame analogy for populations who experience disadvantages economically and in education on a class basis for resulting behaviours in the world by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 10:23am)
  • How do u explain the bame statistic? by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 10:46am)
  • Ur trying really hard to make this not a class based issue, yes there's probably racist things going on here too, the working class has become stratified by racial tensions is not a newsflash by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 11:04am)
  • Ok but as another comment said u misunderstood my analogy with the bame population with this same point, the 'these people' you are talking about are the ones I'm referencing as being likely disadvantaged. I don't doubt that Alex Cairnie is as as you say, but I'm making this point about him. The problem is individualising the issues to private responsibility rather than looking at the systematic inequalities that surround them, which leads to really ugly places as seen with the above comment which wished death upon them via 'natural selection' from covid by winking_scone (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 12:24pm)
  • I don't doubt that but my point is there are complex social issues which would lead such groups as here to this situation by winking_scone (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 9:30am)
