  • Yep, but where can we dump cars for free at Charing Cross?! by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:11am)
  • I don’t think any of us want to be reliant on and pay for public transport. It’s not a bad idea, but I think we’re pretty set on driving to a communal meeting area. If we can’t find somewhere though, I think your suggestion may be the way. Cheers. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:17am)
  • What’s mental about it? by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:24am)
  • I think that’s a fairly major backtrack for the eastender. Would suit me and the south sider though. Hmmmm. I’ll suggest it! Cheers. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:44am)
  • Nice, thanks. I’ll suggest this and see if the other 2 know the area better than me. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:41am)
  • 😂 by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:52am)
  • I did, actually. Robroyston sounds good. We’ll look into that. Ta. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:51am)
  • I like this plan. Cheers. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 11:56am)
  • Is there not a time limit on how long you can park there? by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 1:29pm)
  • Aye, there’s a time limit though. We’d get tickets. by Bannybaws (Thu 6th Feb 2020 1:57pm)

  • Unreal so it is. Soy & garlic chicken thighs with a kimchi cheese fries on the side... my favourite munch in Glasgow. by Bannybaws (Mon 15th Jun 2020 9:47am)
  • VR the people is the best thing I’ve read today. 👏🏻 by Bannybaws (Mon 15th Jun 2020 2:13pm)
  • I can’t figure out whether or not the jakies are just out in bigger numbers these days, or if it’s because of Covid and the streets are generally quieter so they’re sticking out more. Either way, Glasgow’s a bit grim right now. I took a tourist through the city last weekend and was pretty embarrassed by what they had to see. by Bannybaws (Fri 21st Aug 2020 9:32am)
  • Still Game is probably an accurate representation of some classic, old-school Glesga patter. Even with the glaring absence of the F-word... by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Sep 2020 1:50pm)
  • Solid shout. Seems like butternut squashes are in short supply too. 😅 Probably gonna need to be turnips fs. by Bannybaws (Sat 31st Oct 2020 3:33pm)

  • Pretty much exhausted all the west end supermarkets. Think it’s time to give up. 😥 by Bannybaws (Sat 31st Oct 2020 3:38pm)
  • Came here to sing the praises of Kimchi Cult! The soy & garlic glazed Korean chicken thigh with a side of kimchi cheese fries is my undisputed best munch in Glasgow. by Bannybaws (Tue 22nd Dec 2020 2:49pm)
  • Blame Limmy. by Bannybaws (Tue 11th May 2021 9:39am)
  • It sounds like you just have neighbours from hell. I lived in Bishopbriggs from when I was 5 until I was in my mid-twenties. Started off in the Auchinairn end, then moved closer to Balmuildy Primary school area. I haven’t experienced anything like what you’ve described in ~20 years of living there. My parents are still there, and I think it’s a lovely place to live. Unfortunately it just sounds like you’ve managed to land yourself in a terrible street. by Bannybaws (Tue 18th May 2021 12:23pm)
  • Yeah, some honkin’ shite about not condoning the actions of a “small minority”. Sure, that may have been a minority of the club’s fans, but it was in no way small. When you have a sizeable minority like that, more action needs to be taken than brushing it off as being a few bad eggs. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:23pm)
  • REMOVED I have no idea how big Rangers claim their fan base to be. “Small minority” were their words, not mine. Not sure why I’m being downvoted. Unless of course it’s the Huns. (Not a Celtic fan btw; I don’t follow football at all) by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:30pm)
  • Still a load of shite though. The carnage wasn’t caused by a dozen arseholes. There were hundreds of them. I’m willing to bet the number of people contributing to the litter and smashed glass was in quadruple digits. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:42pm)
  • Hun isn’t Sectarian language. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:45pm)
  • Thank you. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:54pm)
  • You educate me. Sectarianism is religious in scope. Can you explain to me the etymology and definitions of Tim & Hun, because I’m not sure they’re religious terms. Happy to be proven otherwise. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:53pm)
  • That article says that those words are used against the respective sides, but does not imply that the words themselves are inherently sectarian. They may be derogatory towards a certain group of fans, but it doesn’t make the language itself sectarian. I could hate Celtic because I’m a Protestant and then call a Celtic fan a smelly sausage. That isn’t sectarian language, but it could be construed as sectarian hatred if that’s what fuelled the (very mild) insult. Hun/Tim are ‘smelly sausage’ in this scenario. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 2:59pm)
  • Ye a hun, aye? by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 3:01pm)
  • I’m not the one policing language here. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 3:01pm)
  • I’ll grant you Fenian, as this holds Irish/political/religious weight. Tim and hun don’t. I’m still waiting on the meaning of those 2 words and where they derive from. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 3:00pm)
  • Hah, never been called a bigot before. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 3:32pm)
  • I don’t follow football so I wouldn’t have a clue. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 5:04pm)
  • Everybody sh, the Reddit polis has arrived. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 5:19pm)
  • Hahahahaha. I’m a left-wing liberal queer atheist; your assumptions about me couldn’t be farther from the truth. I casually dropped the word hun, since from my understanding it was nothing more than a casual term that folk use to refer to Rangers fans (this fact is very much up for debate, as this thread has clearly shown) so no, I’m not a bigot at all, I simply just am not involved in fitbaw culture. From my limited experience, the fans on each side call each other those terms very casually and it’s not as brutally offensive as is being made out. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 5:16pm)
  • Hmm, equating those 2 things really isn’t a fair comparison. A daft sporting rivalry involving daft name-calling and in-fighting over religious ideas that the vast majority of the fanbases don’t even understand/follow really isn’t the same as the oppression and hostility still faced by the queer community. I could’ve been disowned, beaten or killed depending on where I was brought up because of who I am. But I’m sure being called a hun is sore, too. by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 5:25pm)
  • Why does it offend you? by Bannybaws (Tue 25th May 2021 5:55pm)

  • Folk on this sub are obsessed with helicopters and what they’re uptae. by Bannybaws (Sat 10th Jul 2021 11:28pm)
  • The trend of Glaswegian folk being bamboozled by things in the sky continues. Usually it’s the 500 “WHAT’S THAT HELICOPTER UP TAE?” posts we get a week. Think rockets are a new one but. by Bannybaws (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 8:14pm)
  • Pure curtain-twitchers. I’m now imagining there’s a sizeable contingent of Moiras and Agneses on this sub and having a wee giggle about it. by Bannybaws (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 10:58am)
  • Yeah, if you’re in the west end, this is the best place. There are always novice skaters down there all the time, so you’ll not have to feel self-conscious or anything. Great wee skating community down there. Friendly. by Bannybaws (Sat 31st Jul 2021 7:30pm)
  • It’s funny how I can just happily be living my life, then all of a sudden I’m reminded that people ACTUALLY believe in shit like that, then I need to sit for a minute and just contemplate it. It actually scunners me a wee bit. Fucking ghosts man… come on. by Bannybaws (Fri 6th Aug 2021 7:48am)

  • “Don’t get one that often” “Few times a month” Emmm… by Bannybaws (Sun 17th Oct 2021 12:38pm)
  • Does “few” mean 3? 3 McDonald’s a month is a lot, I’d say, yeah. Especially if you preface it by saying you don’t do it often. That’s basically a McDonald’s a week. How is that not often? 😂 by Bannybaws (Sun 17th Oct 2021 12:45pm)
  • Finsbay Flatiron on Woodlands Road is decently priced and really good. by Bannybaws (Wed 24th Nov 2021 1:41pm)
  • Okay cheers, thanks for that. by Bannybaws (Fri 21st Jan 2022 5:35pm)
  • Haha sorry! I’ve been living on this street for nearly 4 years now and never had a sniff of a warden in that time. After a while of parking in my designated parking spot in the residential car park, I decided just to park on the street directly in front of my door for convenience. I’ve been doing this for about 3 years. Then suddenly today out of nowhere a warden has appeared. Had a chat with the guy about how we’ve never had the parking policed on this street the entire time I’ve lived here, and how it’s unfair to spontaneously decide to patrol it and stick tickets on us without any warning. He even conceded that this isn’t their regular route and it was a one-off that they came down. If they’re going to start regularly patrolling, then sure, nae bother, I’ll park in my spot from now on, but if it’s just going to be once in 4 years, then am I fuck paying for that. We’ll see what they say. Worth a shot. by Bannybaws (Fri 21st Jan 2022 6:21pm)

  • Never once happened to me. But chuffed we’re all collectively being calling mingin’ bastards due to you having an unfortunate experience. Cheers. by Bannybaws (Mon 23rd Jan 2023 4:55pm)
  • Well that clearly doesn’t work… by Bannybaws (Tue 31st Jan 2023 5:52pm)
  • Not a drumstick nah, they’re still around. by Bannybaws (Sun 12th Mar 2023 10:47am)
  • Aye, I think we’re thinking about the same thing. Definitely big tongue-shaped lollies. Don’t suppose they’re still around? by Bannybaws (Sun 12th Mar 2023 11:24am)
  • Possibly! I was obsessed with the strawberry ones though. by Bannybaws (Sun 12th Mar 2023 11:44am)
  • Not Mini Milks, no. Weren’t they ice-creamy? Think you can still get those, too. by Bannybaws (Sun 12th Mar 2023 11:43am)

  • I’ve just finished my PGDE and I absolutely would not have been able to work at the weekends. The workload was mental and I essentially did not have weekends. They were spent planning lessons. So unless your organisational skills and productivity levels are off the charts, I’d try and find something else. I think some folk suggested tutoring. Less hours and more money is the way. by Bannybaws (Thu 8th Jun 2023 9:09am)
  • Bold of you to assume the cretin has a job. by Bannybaws (Tue 13th Jun 2023 10:45pm)
  • Came here to say Kimchi Cult and am delighted it’s the first comment I see. The soy & garlic chicken thigh is my favourite scran in Glasgow. Side of kimchi cheese fries tae and you’re laughin’. by Bannybaws (Sun 2nd Jul 2023 4:07pm)
  • My ex is Mexican, I spent a month in Mexico last year, and I’m currently in Texas where there’s a lot of Mexican food on offer. I can honestly say that any Mexican food you can get in Glasgow is just as good as in Mexico. I don’t really get what people mean when they say “it’s not real Mexican”. I’d even go as far as to say our ingredients may even be of a higher quality, particularly the meats. I’ve tried Topolabamba, Bibi’s, El Jefe’s, almost all of the suggestions in this thread and they’re all fine. They all serve recognisably Mexican cuisine and they hit the spot just fine for me (without the dodgy stomach issues I got from a roadside taco vendor in Playa del Carmen and a Mexican-owned cantina in downtown Austin) by Bannybaws (Wed 19th Jul 2023 9:30pm)
  • Cool! I’m curious to see what your opinions are on our attempts at Mexican while you’re here. Try out all the places mentioned in the thread and I’m sure you’ll enjoy at least one of ‘em. Just steer clear of Bar Burrito. It’s crap. by Bannybaws (Wed 19th Jul 2023 9:46pm)
  • Some people don’t know the difference between classic Glasgow patter and Limmy/Still Game patter. Not saying the latter aren’t funny, but I wouldn’t say they’re true Glesga sayings. by Bannybaws (Thu 27th Jul 2023 5:19am)
  • It’s attitudes like this that allow toxic and damaging religious bigotry to proliferate. No, not each to their own. Not in this case. by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Aug 2023 2:50pm)
  • Which street preachers clearly don’t, as they feel the need to spew their unsolicited, antiquated rhetoric to the public. by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Aug 2023 3:48pm)
  • See, I don’t like this train of thought at all. “You do you”. I’m a gay man, so if I walk past these cunts and they’re spouting homophobic bile, I don’t think I could just “do me” and walk on by. This behaviour needs called out for what it is: bigoted. It’s easy for folk to say “just ignore it” if what these people are spouting doesn’t actually impinge on your life in any way. by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Aug 2023 4:49pm)
  • Preaching that we’re dirty sinners for just being who we are? Nah, not fair at all. Weird that you’re trying to find ways to defend these tits. Nobody wants to hear their shite. by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Aug 2023 5:01pm)
  • You lost me at “That’s not preaching though”. Aye it is. by Bannybaws (Sat 5th Aug 2023 6:18pm)
  • Yer da tracks discounted mince. by Bannybaws (Tue 15th Aug 2023 8:40am)
  • This is mental to me. I’ve got both Chinese and Pakistani pals, all Glasgow born & bred and we’ve had chats about this sort of thing before. From their perspective, the fact that you’re not using it maliciously is completely irrelevant. Chinky/Paki have very commonly been used as derogatory terms over the years, and it still rouses feelings of anger for them, whether it’s aimed at them maliciously or not. They’re nasty words full of historical racism and hatred, so let’s just assign them to history now, eh? There is no reason we should be referring to a Chinese restaurant as “a Chinky” or a corner shop as “a paki shop” in 2023. The fact this even needs explained is baffling. by Bannybaws (Tue 15th Aug 2023 9:46pm)
  • It’s just sheer ignorance and a refusal to learn. “Brought up saying it tbh”. Aye and I was brought up believing in Santa. It’s time to grow up. by Bannybaws (Tue 15th Aug 2023 10:12pm)
  • Sounds like patter they just made up. by Bannybaws (Thu 16th Nov 2023 8:35pm)
