  • Outside of whether it was a good shopping centre or not, and the arguments about it driving business in neighboring towns the place has a soft spot for me purely for nostalgia. Going to Braehead was an adventure, me and my family would routinely take day trips just to go shopping when I was little back in the early 2000s. I'm from the sticks so it was totally different experience to everything else growing up. I still vividly remember driving up the A83 in the scorching heat of summer just so my mum could spend a couple of hours getting her retail therapy. by BruceC96 (Fri 26th Jun 2020 8:45pm)
  • This is a little different but there's a [tenement building](https://goo.gl/maps/2U3TEfDLUcQ8qshF6) near Partick which completely stands out from any others in the area which I really like the look of. Would love one as a first home. by BruceC96 (Sat 18th Jul 2020 5:55pm)
  • Any suggested Joanna Goodbyte on Geroge Street yet? by BruceC96 (Sat 12th Sep 2020 5:52pm)
  • Mate you've got me feeling way to nostalgic for a monday night. I moved away from here after Uni this time last year to Sheffield and felt the exact same way, hoping to be back sooner rather than later. by BruceC96 (Mon 5th Oct 2020 10:00pm)
  • Ben Nevis → Park Bar → O'neils (gbnf) → Godfather. by BruceC96 (Sat 13th Mar 2021 1:26pm)
  • Yeah done the numbers myself when I saw the announcement, 2.4k properties in the grand scheme of things is not gonna take long to go through. by BruceC96 (Sun 28th Mar 2021 9:32pm)
  • I'm asking myself the same thing so it's not rude at all. I'm weighing up the benefits of location, build quality, what's gonna keep it's value, etc. I'm moving back to Glasgow but at the moment I'm in a flat in a late victorian block of "villas" which has had significant work done to it and I've not had any of the issues you've listed. I'm presuming that you can get a well looked after / renovated tenement flat which will be similar to live in to what I've got right now. Compared to where I stayed when I was in Glasgow before (90s build just south of the city centre) I think I'd prefer a tenement and happy to do improvements in the long run. One thing I've learned during lockdown is that if I'm near a park then that makes a world of difference, even if it's just for getting out to stretch my legs, and it just so happens that near the good parks it's mostly tenements. by BruceC96 (Sun 28th Mar 2021 9:46pm)
  • I've been seeing similar things in other threads on here like suggestions that you should do a verbal offer with a time limit quickly instead of declaring interest and then putting in a firm offer. by BruceC96 (Sun 28th Mar 2021 11:11pm)
  • It's definitely crossed my mind, like everything down by the expressway I'm flat out avoiding until I hear that the costs of the repairs are fixed or at least agreed with a high degree of certainty. Another issue I've seen with some flats by the clyde are embankment repairs being the responsibility of the landowner so the cost gets passed on to the flat owners, that's put me off a couple of properties already. by BruceC96 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 8:54am)
  • Aye its basically a trade off between lower mortgage rates and what becomes affordable if you include the 25k. As it stands I've probably got enough to get a 10% mortgage but ideally I'd be looking at higher to get the interest as low as possible and have a good chance of getting a mortgage accepted. I am looking at possibly sub letting as an option too if I see somewhere that's only just affordable for me. Also in the long run if the money I saved from lower mortgage rates could be invested and either match or better the increase in value of the government's share of my flat then that could potentially speed up getting whole ownership. by BruceC96 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 10:00am)
  • The government doesn't take back 25K when you sell, they take back the percentage they have a share of, so you could lose out on some money if the property increases in value. Not sure what happens if you're property decreases in value but it wouldn't surprise me if the minimum they take back is the amount they put in. by BruceC96 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 10:43am)
  • I used to live near cessnock, there's a few decent blocks but I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back to the occasional orange walks in the summer. by BruceC96 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 12:20pm)
  • Aye the 926 and 976 stop at luss. by BruceC96 (Fri 16th Apr 2021 4:12pm)
  • Heads-up if you're going into town for the first time since last week, there's still a fuck tonne of broken glass everywhere, just in case you've got the dog or wee kids with you. by BruceC96 (Mon 17th May 2021 8:15am)
  • I'm personally hoping that the market slows down a bit in the summer, more properties up on the market with people being more comfortable to show / sell and I'm hoping less people bidding either due to splurging on summer holidays or just realising that they don't actually want to move because of the increases in prices. by BruceC96 (Sun 30th May 2021 11:11am)
  • Strathclyde Uni Gym? The pools out of action at the moment but should be open again soon. by BruceC96 (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:53pm)
  • Yeah it's open to anyone, students, staff and alumni usually get big discounts but right now there's a flat rate for the whole summer of £68. by BruceC96 (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 4:17pm)
  • Where are you getting info about a TIC 2? There's nothing on the planning website apart from the proposed phase 2 of the inovo building across the road? by BruceC96 (Thu 17th Jun 2021 8:33am)

  • Oh it gets better, someone sprayed a whole of comments in defiance of it, and they painted over it all again. Some of them were naff but the MF DOOM tribute was surely worthy of keeping? by BruceC96 (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 9:17pm)
  • I was meant to be going to see pals in Sheffield but Arwen being the being the arsehole he is meant my train was cancelled AND my second attempt at getting a train was cancelled at the last minute. by BruceC96 (Sat 27th Nov 2021 4:13pm)

  • Gallowgate is behind the decks, not playing just trying to punt them to the other party goers. by BruceC96 (Fri 28th Jan 2022 2:46pm)
  • I dodged a bullet when trying to buy a non-factored flat last year. During going through the missives (and chatting to a few neighbors) it came out that the neighboring flat was abandoned on the top floor and was leaking through to the flat below, so potentially a problem with the roof, managed to pull out of the sale thank god with only a legal bill but honestly it's a bit risky. That could have developed into a massive bill for the repair and no guarantee that the other residents would 1. be willing to share the bill and 2. that they would pay. by BruceC96 (Thu 24th Mar 2022 8:51pm)
  • One half of me loves seeing theses old photos of Glasgow, the other is infuriated at the amount of architecture which had been lost. by BruceC96 (Fri 25th Mar 2022 9:19am)

  • Look I get football fans want to celebrate but this was hardly impromptu or unexpected, couldn't a "fan zone" or something been set up least to contain this sort of shit show? I'm not a football fan myself, obviously know what it's all about because there's no escaping it here but. by BruceC96 (Sat 14th May 2022 9:53pm)

  • I think one of the problems not picked up on is when folk leave plastic bags at the kerbside for pick up in the morning. I don't think I've seen one not ripped open by seagulls with the contents spewed over the street the past few months. by BruceC96 (Sun 17th Jul 2022 4:26pm)
  • Why does this sound like a thinly veiled advert for that new roll shop in the barras that specifically offers either or haha. by BruceC96 (Sun 24th Jul 2022 4:16pm)

  • Not long ago I had an idea that you could pedestrianise from the Mercat building down to the Tron Theatre and make that end of Argyle Street into a European style plaza. Would be horrendous for traffic coming from the east end and saltmarket / high street but we could do with more public squares in this city. by BruceC96 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 9:09pm)
