  • There should be death sentences for cases like this - where the evidence is way beyond doubt and the callousness of the offense more than justifies it. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Mar 2019 1:51pm)
  • Not to make us feel better. Although obviously it would. Simply that it is the natural punishment for this type of crime. It is absolutely about justice. Your argument on cost and process is nonsensical. The issues are not insurmountable. It baffles me that a 16 year old is considered a child. Liberal thought gone mad. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Mar 2019 5:14pm)
  • Yes I believe in the ultimate penalty when there is no doubt someone has committed the ultimate crime. As does the vast majority of the world. This guy is gonna go to jail - have a comfortable time there (compared to proper jails - eg Supermax in the USA) away from most other prisoners. With access to first world medical care, psychological treatment, education, etc. is that fair??? Ask the families of murder victims? Get out of your bubble for a second and into the real world. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Mar 2019 9:56pm)

  • Jury duty Glasgow sheriff court about 10 years ago. A ned charged with starting a fight at a neighbors house party. Ned gives evidence. Very few of us in the jury can understand him (and we’re all from Glasgow). His lawyer acted as a translator for each statement made. Fuckin hilarious ! • Am 40. Born n bred in Glasgow in a rough area. Loads of abuse for being of Pakistani origin. Quite blatant growing up. Less obvious racism today as I’ve moved into middle class. More subtle but definitely there. There is a general discomfort that I always need to overcome when meeting new people socially, at work, etc that I don’t see others having to do. I accept promotions are less frequent for no obvious reason and see the glass as being half full for getting on well in life. I travel a lot with work, in UK and worldwide. I always, always, have to explain why I have a Scottish accent but don’t look ‘Scottish’. That is very tiresome indeed. by Comeonyoubhoys (Mon 8th Jun 2020 9:40pm)

  • We did similar in a first floor tenement in pollokshields. Get a structural surveyor in first that will let you know if it’s practical and cost effective (important) especially on ground floor. Our costs (6 years ago) were apx: 1k surveyor and building warrant 4K builder to knock the walls down, put the steel beams in and plaster up. We used Queens Park Builder who have a great rep. Don’t skimp when knocking down tenement walls. 2k plumbing. This was a real pain to do Kitchen and bathroom - we went high end and it cost A LOT Biggest piece of advice - please be VERY comfortable on the cost benefit. Be brutally honest. No point spending loads on structural work on a cheap flat / unattractive location / where the added value will be minimal. by Comeonyoubhoys (Fri 19th Feb 2021 8:17pm)

  • As a recent buyer in Newton Mearns (after 18 months of searching) I would agree that October - December is the time that there is the least competition and therefore less over HR needed. All the nutters seem to come out over summer. COVID pent up demand might be dying down nearer end of the year. Hold your nerve ! by Comeonyoubhoys (Sat 31st Jul 2021 12:38am)
  • New build by any chance? Heat is in tenements at moment in the southside it seems. Also, a lot of buyers tend to ignore places that have been on the market for more than a month, even less so in current market as they assume something isn’t right if not sold by then. Don’t sell for below HR. Maybe take off market for 3-6 months, take critical feedback on board, change what’s required (if poss) and re-list with a new agent. Corum always seem to be able to present and sell theirs well. by Comeonyoubhoys (Sat 31st Jul 2021 12:54am)

  • yes, this has to be a key root cause. see it so much, but people don't want to call it out, and would rather blame the govt or society for everyone's predicament. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Oct 2021 10:48am)
  • Well my view is simply that personal and familial responsibility is usually the biggest factor. Feel free to disagree. And that blame shifting is an easy, much too often used cop-out. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Oct 2021 11:14am)
  • It’s this kind of thinking that perpetuates this type of behaviour. Let’s people blame govt/Tories/others for all sorts, without acknowledging the key issue - personal responsibility. by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 21st Oct 2021 11:12am)

  • Ignore what you being told - definitely not everything is going for way over HR. And don’t chase nutters that do offer silly money. We bought a house in Newton mearns last year - a real hot spot for house prices. I went back and checked how much each of the 25 odd houses we viewed over the course of a year actually sold for - the range was from 2-17% over the HR with the cast majority being between 5 and 10% over HR. Interest rates are now going to start rising and global economic conditions are getting worse. This will put a cool (but prob not a drop) on the housing market. by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 5:22am)
  • It’s good interest rates will soon start to rise. All interest rates at such a low level do is inflate asset prices and too much risk taking. Time to get some normality back into the financial system by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 10:20am)
  • It’s tough medicine but required big picture. Can’t have cheap money out there forever. Econ 101 by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 11:24am)
  • You can’t let the irrational dictate the market. Big picture cheap money is bad. Drives inflation and asset bubbles. Keeps fueling demand everywhere. That needs to be tempered and in current situation withdrawing QE and starting the increase on rates is the best way to do it. And we’re only talking about rates going up to what would still be historic lows (sub 2%) - due to not wanting the housing market to completely crash. by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 12:00pm)
  • I am guessing you are under 30 ? Hence you don’t think lending is cheap. My 0.79% mortgage rate is essentially free money and a negative rate when inflation is factored in. The biggest determiner of house prices is availability of debt. Less availability pushes prices down. Supply of housing may push it up but that’s another matter. If you are looking to get on the ladder, have a good job etc you will be much better off long term with higher rates. Otherwise the rate of house price inflation will be more than what can be saved ave and the situation gets worse. Anyway, back to my spreadsheets zzzz by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 12:31pm)
  • I really don't understand how my council tax in Glasgow is a good bit higher than my council tax when I lived in London (zone 2) - and the services here are much worse. Not sure it's a budget issue. by Comeonyoubhoys (Fri 5th Nov 2021 1:35pm)

  • What is included in social care costs, that they take up such a huge part of the budget? At some point, there needs to be a line drawn on how much money that dept gets; or the SG needs to top it up. Much better than letting every other service go to shit. by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 26th Jan 2022 4:34pm)
  • Dealt a fair bit with GCC in a past career. It was corrupt as fuck. Backhanders all over the shop - was like an east end big boys mafia. Paid way over commercial rates for things and didn’t care cos people were given jobs, gifts ( Celtic box tickets were a favorite) and commissions to go along with how things were done. I remember a well placed senior council figure who was leasing a Mercedes e class for 20 quid a week from a key GCC supplier and folk claimed it was a commercial rate. Lol. • I’d propose that social care costs be paid by the SG once those costs reach a certain percentage of any councils overall budget. As it’s not a cost that the council can control. None of the cost is ‘gutted’. Simple and effective. Therefore won’t happen. by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 26th Jan 2022 6:07pm)

  • There is probably a recession coming later this year or early next. Always the best time to buy as folk won’t go nuts over HR. Q4 usually quiet vs other times of the year. Always buy desirable areas and never overpay for new builds. Best time in recent times to buy (anecdotally) was 2008/9 and the 6 months before the last Indy ref by Comeonyoubhoys (Wed 16th Feb 2022 12:03pm)

  • I think you’ll find we only declared war on Germany after he occupied a good few European territories. Not after the first. And when he attacked Poland, the UK had an alliance with them, just as we do with nato countries yet. And hitler didn’t have nukes either. I am sure you will be the first to sign up to go and fight Russia or send your kids / dad to do it. Aye? by Comeonyoubhoys (Thu 24th Feb 2022 7:12pm)

  • I bought a house 18 months in the Newton Mearns at a high-ish price bracket. Bid on 5 properties and had a good look at 10 more. I paid 11% over HR. I went back and checked the others I was interested in and lost out on. Of the 14, the highest over HR was 20% (one place) and the lowest was under 5% (I think 4 of them. Most were between 5 and 12% over HR. This was for places with HR between 400 and 500k in a very competitive area. by Comeonyoubhoys (Sun 27th Mar 2022 3:53pm)
  • I think going 20% over in the current economic climate is very risky. Especially with elevated HR’s, living cost inflation and interest rates that will rise to at least 2.5%. Only if u absolutely love the place and can see yourself there for 10years+ by Comeonyoubhoys (Sun 27th Mar 2022 3:58pm)
