  • Max men’s grooming at the St. George’s X end of great western rd is the best barbers I’ve found in Glasgow. £10 for a good cut and student discount. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 30th Jun 2019 2:11pm)
  • I definitely remember doing something like that. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 8th Dec 2019 7:30pm)
  • There’s one up by Charing Cross that just says “gimp” by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 12th Jan 2020 1:08pm)
  • Have a look with SpareRoom, I’ve always had good luck finding flats/flat mates with that. Student accommodation can be very expensive but yeah, is a good way to meet folk. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 12th Jan 2020 3:30pm)
  • I think it was “mirth” by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 5th Mar 2020 1:48pm)
  • I’ve found SpareRoom is the best way to find flats or flat mates, definitely the best route to go down. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 7th Mar 2020 3:21pm)
  • Yeah city closed a couple of hours ago. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 17th Mar 2020 11:56am)
  • L’Aquila in town is great. Gennaros in Anniesland too. Oh, and MacDonners at Queens Park. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 15th May 2020 11:52pm)
  • You’re better off finding a private let if at all possible, student accommodation tends to be overpriced and poorly maintained in my experience. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 19th May 2020 3:29am)
  • For Cardonald, Paisley Road West or Ibrox would be pretty handy and you’ll find a decent flat round there easily enough. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 19th May 2020 12:12pm)
  • MacDonners does great pizza. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 4th Jul 2020 2:16pm)
  • It’s honestly great, genuinely one of the things I miss about living in the southside. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 4th Jul 2020 2:35pm)
  • I was down in Partick there and there were loads about, wee fucks kept flying under my mask. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 31st Jul 2020 4:46pm)
  • I used to live down Cowcaddens just by Chinatown, used to see loads of Chinese celebrations and stuff, it was great. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 10th Aug 2020 2:08pm)
  • Yeah my partner, my brother and a friend have all had letters in demanding money from the council, despite 2 of them being exempt. It’s been a nightmare trying to get hold of them but eventually we got it sorted. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 5th Dec 2020 4:26pm)
  • I’m gonna paste a comment I made to a similar thread, but the council have been dreadful this year. It took phoning citizens advice to sort it out, and the person we talked to suggested that it’s happening to a lot of people at the moment. “Yeah my partner, my brother and a friend have all had letters in demanding money from the council, despite 2 of them being exempt. It’s been a nightmare trying to get hold of them but eventually we got it sorted.” by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 7th Dec 2020 10:12pm)
  • Letting yourself off lightly there. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 5th Jan 2021 12:38pm)
  • There were a few birds of prey nesting at Yorkhill hospital last time I was up that way, there’s also one that hangs about the City of Glasgow college. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 12th Jan 2021 11:52am)
  • Go up the Necropolis. People will hear you but they’ll just assume it’s a spooky ghost. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 25th Jan 2021 11:02am)
  • Albert avenue where it meets Maybank st? by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 8th Feb 2021 10:40pm)
  • You’ll find somewhere, though having your dog will make it considerably more difficult. I’d suggest start looking early and make plans for temporary accommodation if your search run over. If your travel plans are flexible maybe try looking over the summer. Anecdotally my wee brother found a flat within a week of looking last week. So it’s definitely possible. Oh, and try SpareRoom, I’ve used it a bunch of times in the past and it was pretty great. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 26th Feb 2021 9:39pm)
  • Sorry I’ve no idea about how visas work, I imagine the uni would have information on that if they’ve got any services open just now. Good luck with the move! by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 26th Feb 2021 10:28pm)
  • It sounds like you’re conflating hard work with having wealth. There is no amount of hard work that can compete with the passive income someone who owns a lot of rental properties has. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:14pm)
  • The roofs in Glasgow are amazing to climb. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 9th Apr 2021 8:31am)
  • I recently helped clear out a friends flat and the uplift guys were great. Took everything and let us throw a few final things on while they were loading it up. Sounds like it just depends who you get. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 19th May 2021 5:30pm)
  • Honestly you’d have a better experience getting a flat share with other students. Try having a look on SpareRoom to see what’s available, I’m sure there are plenty that would suit you for a semester. You’ll very likely not find an en suite, but everything else is feasible. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 3rd Jun 2021 1:11am)
  • You’ll be exempt from council tax as long as everyone in the flat is a student (which I assume will be the case if you’re going for a studio) not sure how those prices compare to private halls, your cheapest option would be a flatshare tbh by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 5th Jul 2021 5:38pm)
  • MacDonners does the best Indian pizza. Get their chilli sauce to dip in. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 6th Jul 2021 11:25pm)
  • Poundland does them. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 10th Jul 2021 1:00pm)
  • Sartis is decent if you’re looking for somewhere in town. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 27th Jul 2021 1:01am)
  • You can try the council tax live chat, it’s been a nightmare getting anyone on the phone recently. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 4th Aug 2021 5:59pm)
  • I’ve always had the best luck with SpareRoom. Have to admit I’ve not used it in a while but it’s been great for finding rooms previously. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 10th Aug 2021 10:45pm)
  • I’d first contact [Glasgow Housing Association](https://www.gha.org.uk)they’ve been very good in my experience. There are other housing associations about too but I’ve not rented from them. I’d advise you to contact [Citizen’s Advice](https://www.cas.org.uk) as well, they’re always pretty busy but they’re a great resource. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 25th Aug 2021 11:27am)
  • Thanks so much, we’re in Anniesland so Clydebank is definitely doable. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 6:23pm)
  • Thanks so much, I’ll give them a call and see what their advice is. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 6:35pm)
  • Thank you, my partner loves doing research so I’m gonna pass all these suggestions on to her and it sounds like we’ll end up with the best care we can get for our wee goblin. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 6:57pm)
  • Thanks for the suggestion, we’ve tried running the shower till it’s steamy and taking her in there for a wee bit which seems to help a bit. I’ll ask a vet about nebulisers though cos that sounds like a more long term option. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 6:56pm)
  • Thanks and I’ll tell our wee rat you called her exotic :p by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 7:01pm)
  • Cheers, I’ve shared this thread with my partner so she’s putting a list together of places to try. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 7:13pm)
  • Thank you, I’ll add that to the list by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 7:11pm)
  • Aww that’s great thanks, obviously as little travel as possible would be ideal. We’ll give them a phone too. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 7:46pm)
  • Looks like they’re open tomorrow so we’re gonna try them in the morning :) by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:43pm)
  • Thanks mate, I’ll post an update :) by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:43pm)
  • Cheers, I’ll call them too by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:42pm)
  • Yeah we’ve had problems previously with pet shop rats. You’ll fall in love with them, if you end up getting more in the future I’d definitely recommend a breeder. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 18th Sep 2021 6:04pm)
  • Thanks, we called this morning but they’ve no room for new clients. We’re gonna keep trying the places suggested and our wee rat is happy and sooky so she doesn’t seem distressed at least. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 18th Sep 2021 6:03pm)
  • Thanks for asking, we’ve had problems with one substrate before, currently our preferred one, Kaytee Clean and cosy extreme odour control, hasn’t been available for ages so we’ve been using back-2-nature for the time being with shredded paper and cut up old clothes. If you’ve got any input that could help we’d really appreciate it. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 19th Sep 2021 11:20pm)
  • I totally understand why you’re not able to stay outwith the city with nursing, I did a stint working in Glasgow and living in Paisley and it was literally impossible on Sunday’s. I second SpareRoom for finding somewhere. I think I read you’re based in the royal? From there east end into the city centre are your best bet area wise. Cowcaddens has been pretty cheap rent wise in my experience and I loved living there. If you drive then Cumbernauld is also an option, I checked public transport times and they’d be fine other than Sundays. If you want more information on areas there I can ask my partner and edit my comment if you want. There’s definitely somewhere out there you can get, it’s just brutal at the moment. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 25th Sep 2021 11:06am)
  • Cheers mate, it’s not a bother if we have to wait a bit. We’ve got everything else sorted. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 9:49am)
  • We’re around Anniesland if that helps at all by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 12:00pm)
  • No worries, cheers anyway by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 3:28pm)
  • Cheers I’ll try on there by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 3:28pm)
  • Cheers mate I’ll look him up by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 3:45pm)
  • Any chance you could link me his details? Dm is fine if you’re not wanting to post here. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 4:03pm)
  • Ideal cheers by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 29th Sep 2021 4:58pm)
  • How quickly do you need stuff moved? If it’s in good enough condition you could give it away on Facebook and gumtree. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 6th Oct 2021 10:53pm)
  • I think most places will charge to pick up regardless. Gumtree is still a decent option to try and get rid of the bulkier stuff. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 6th Oct 2021 10:58pm)
  • I’ve been finding there’s a £60 minimum for a van to pick up from most places. You’d be as well phoning round the charity shops and seeing if any of them can take anything. Bhf in partick has a big shop, other than that I’m not sure off the top of my head. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 7th Oct 2021 8:19am)
  • Have you got mobility issues? Or can you just not be fucked walking? I’ve never owned a car and have no intention of ever doing so, it’s never caused me any problems other than getting a bit damp on the way home from work. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 11th Nov 2021 4:14pm)
  • I moved to Paisley with no knowledge of the area and ended up staying on Well st for about 18 months. Honestly had 1 incident while I was there, which wasn’t even too bad. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 17th Jan 2022 10:21am)
  • Yeah, a lot of places have reputations that are decades out of date tbh. Hope your move to Paisley goes well! by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 17th Jan 2022 9:22pm)
  • My partner studied whilst on benefits, here’s what she’s got to say: PIP is fine, if you’re on that it won’t be affected. Any sort of UC, as far as she knows, will only continue if you’ve been declared unfit for work by the DWP. Unsure on old style housing, might be ok. Old style ESA might affect your student loan, my partner’s experience was the college saying to contact DWP and the DWP saying to contact the college, so I guess if you want a go of a kafkaesque nightmare you could have a go at that. She also suggests phoning CAB (citizens advice bureau) they’re entirely on your side and know their shit inside out. They’ll also help with any forms you need to fill out. Good luck, hope you manage to get something sorted. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 22nd Jan 2022 12:05pm)
  • Phone 111 or your gp, you’ll need crutches that fit or you could end up making it worse. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 11th Feb 2022 10:40am)
  • It’s somewhere around £500 a month, so not enough to not work however there will be discretionary funds you can apply for depending on where you’re going. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 2nd May 2022 11:35pm)
  • Basic human needs like shelter shouldn’t be an “investment” My need for housing is more important than some prick making money. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 9th May 2022 10:39am)
  • I mean, I work full time and study full time and I don’t drive. I walk to work and take the train to college. Sounds like you’re just a lazy prick who can’t manage to do anything without driving. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 17th May 2022 4:17pm)
  • SpareRoom has been great in my experience, though it’s been a while since I used it. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 28th May 2022 10:21pm)
  • So just to warn you I’m talking out my arse because I’ve not flat hunted in about 5 years. Where are you needing to be closer to? West end of city centre? If you’re looking west end Anniesland is still fairly affordable, as is Kelvindale but the transport links aren’t as good. City centre, cowcaddens has always been surprisingly cheap, it’s worth a look I guess. You could try maryhill, summerston etc. If you’re close enough to a train station it’s not too isolated. Also ibrox/govan with the subway there is worth a shout. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 28th May 2022 10:25pm)
  • Congratulations on making the move! The accent will be difficult, even if your English is perfect. I’d recommend watching some Scottish media to get an idea of how it sounds. “Still Game” and “Limmy’s Show” should be on Netflix and give you an idea of what to expect. Good luck to you and your family, and I hope you all enjoy the city and make it your home. It’s grim in winter but around April/May it really comes alive. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 25th Aug 2022 11:36pm)
  • Always happy to see landlords/airBnB cunts get fucked by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 7th Oct 2022 8:52pm)
  • As is tradition. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 7th Oct 2022 9:41pm)
  • I always took it to mean behind the hour, so 5-10 minutes to by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 9th Nov 2022 9:32pm)
  • Phone your factors/landlord and ask for a pointer to come out to check the grout on the outside. Do your windows have vents? If so try keeping them open as much as possible and see if that helps. If not, I know it’s freezing but try to keep a window open a wee bit when possible. Make sure you get a pointer out either way. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 12th Dec 2022 9:35pm)
  • Probably, depending on sizes. I’d make a frame from CLS to attach it to first though. Then you’ll want it plastered over. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 9th Jan 2023 1:53pm)
  • Hey I did that once, except it was summer and I was in a shitty dingy and we got a puncture and had to get off and just go to Tchai O’vna by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 13th Jan 2023 7:42am)
  • Yup, the amount of cars, and stupidly big ones at that, is absurd. Glasgow is a fairly walkable city, and public transport is slightly less good than average. Thankfully there seems to be a move to make the city more people-friendly. It might take a while to manifest but hopefully it’ll drive down the number of cars in the city. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 26th Jan 2023 9:38pm)
  • Fuck off, I’m not kicking about the city in high-vis because you can’t drive slower and pay attention to your surroundings. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 9th Feb 2023 8:59pm)
  • Yeah, and I’m saying as a pedestrian I shouldn’t have to wear reflective gear to walk about the city. If you choose to drive then it’s on you to not kill anyone. The city is for people, we all know it’s dark this time of year so watch your speed and watch your surroundings. by DryDrunkImperor (Thu 9th Feb 2023 9:16pm)
  • Clyde tunnel is no bother, you should give it a go. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 25th Apr 2023 6:55pm)
  • Tbh I walk it but coming back up looks brutal on the bike. Takes me 10 mins walking so leas than that on the bike. I’ve actually posted a video of it cos it’s cool looking, have a watch if you’ve not been in if that would help. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 25th Apr 2023 7:49pm)
  • Look into GalGael, it’s based in govan. Otherwise, City of Glasgow college does various woodworking courses. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 14th May 2023 7:42pm)
  • Wearing a mask reduces the chances of you spreading your disease to others. It’s just courtesy to wear one when you’re ill. I’ve had a shitty cold for 2 weeks now, I mask up in work and shops because it’s a shitty cold and I don’t want to give it to others. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 11th Jun 2023 10:32am)
  • Glasgow uni, take her a walk around the cloisters. Weather permitting down onto Byers rd and the botanics. If it’s shitey weather take the train into central and walk up to The Pot Still, sit in and have a drink. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 7th Jul 2023 11:21pm)
  • Talk to him next time you see him, sit down beside him on the stairs and say you notice he’s having a shit time of it. Ask his consent to help, don’t be condescending (I mean accidentally, obviously you’ve got a good heart) but he might be fine struggling up and down the stairs. Recommend home delivery of shopping, he may not be aware of it being an option, perhaps get a couple of deliveries yourself if you can to show it’s a fairly normal thing now. If he’s not into any of that just keep doing what you’re doing, chat to him, offer to help and when he declines just tell him to chap your door if he ever does want a help. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 14th Jul 2023 9:45pm)
  • Pigeon Palace by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 17th Jul 2023 4:54am)
  • I’m saying no, can’t see any burn marks on the tin foil. Plus it’s a fairly regular shape, maybe wrapped around something oily? Could be talking shite idk. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 30th Jul 2023 9:47am)
  • Nah man, I’m not a wee mouse I’m not gonna scurry. by DryDrunkImperor (Mon 7th Aug 2023 6:54pm)
  • The woodpeckers in Dawsholm park are pretty cool, also easy to spot considering the racket they make. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 26th Aug 2023 9:51am)
  • Walk it 5 days a week, it’s not great and it’s always awkward having to pass someone walking slower. The experience has really taken a dip since they got rid of the graffiti. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 2nd Sep 2023 7:19pm)
  • Yeah, also the discordant noises really add to the liminal feeling. by DryDrunkImperor (Sat 2nd Sep 2023 7:15pm)
  • Ahaha nah that’s all away, along with the actual footprints. I do miss seeing “Peter Prior sucks balls” tho, I always pretended he’d written it himself and was just really pleased about it. by DryDrunkImperor (Sun 3rd Sep 2023 10:19pm)
  • I doubt it’s just sleeping you’ll be doing in the car based on OPs observations. by DryDrunkImperor (Tue 5th Sep 2023 8:17pm)
  • Max Men’s Grooming. I’ve spent over a decade in Glasgow and no one comes close to him in quality. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 11th Oct 2023 10:40pm)
  • I bought a £50 dinghy off Amazon and had a great time going from spiers wharf up to the locks at maryhill. Just have to row yourself. by DryDrunkImperor (Wed 8th Nov 2023 8:42am)
  • It’s quite Giorgio de Chirico I thought. by DryDrunkImperor (Fri 1st Dec 2023 7:31am)
