  • Used to work in Chinaskis in Charing Cross. Very nice place, especially if you like Bourbon, and fun vibe amongst staff. Same guy owns Tabac, which is one of the best bars in town. Second the above post: DO NOT work for G1! by GassenhauerUK (Thu 29th Jul 2021 6:02pm)
  • Nothing much to add to the coping techniques, but as we’re here, I pulled in front of a van on the outside lane the M8 last week on the way to Edinburgh. When I checked my mirror, I had to double take, the guy was reading and sorting paperwork at the steering wheel whilst driving at 70 miles an hour. It blow my mind that these people think being completely reckless actually qualifies them as fantastic, confident drivers. by GassenhauerUK (Sun 15th Aug 2021 1:26pm)
  • If you cycle through Pollok park follow the signs to Paisley. There are a few roads through Pollok but very quiet. You then cycle along the white cart and through a few suburbs to Paisley Canal station. There are then cycle routes along the old railway out all the way to Greenock or Kilbirnie. by GassenhauerUK (Wed 18th Aug 2021 10:04pm)
  • Yeah, very similar. Castle Semple Loch if you head south or Kilmcolm if turn at the junction to go West, are definitely the highlights. by GassenhauerUK (Thu 19th Aug 2021 8:31am)
  • Tchai Ovna and Voltaire & Rousseau bookshop on Otago Lane are both unique and memorable places! by GassenhauerUK (Sat 21st Aug 2021 4:09pm)
  • Check the map of Multiple Deprivation, thats a fair guide to neighbourhoods... [https://simd.scot/#/simd2020/BTTTFTT/12/-4.7004/55.9294/](https://simd.scot/#/simd2020/BTTTFTT/12/-4.7004/55.9294/) by GassenhauerUK (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 8:47am)
  • Castle Semple Loch by Lochwinnoch. You could get the train to Paisley Canal and then its a straight-up, totally flat off road cycle route all the way. My wife isn't a cyclist and she managed the route there and back. Edit: Now I think about it, it's not totally flat, a bit of gentle up and down, but not bad. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 7th Sep 2021 3:24pm)
  • Aw, that's a shame to know. Last time I was there, there were lots of kids diving off the jetties... but they were kids, so maybe they were just mental. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 7th Sep 2021 5:04pm)
  • I know, I'm a cyclist and would definitely classify it as flat. My wife isn't though, and she definitely found it 'rolling.' The OP said they were a beginner, so maybe they would find the same. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 7th Sep 2021 5:02pm)
  • She’s from Northern Poland, so also extremely flat. by GassenhauerUK (Wed 8th Sep 2021 9:06am)
  • Worked with the Raven once or twice. Absolutely lovely guy. by GassenhauerUK (Wed 8th Sep 2021 3:22pm)
  • I have been looking for well over two years now. Just spent two weeks being roasted by my Polish in-laws for barely understanding anything. Duolingo has been the best I’ve come across. I did 20 lessons with an online tutor but they were rubbish. I think there needs to be four signed up for the Live Language in Glasgow course to go ahead, so is anyone else wanting/needing to learn? by GassenhauerUK (Fri 1st Oct 2021 8:33pm)
  • I think I’ve been registered with them for ages, but the Polish club lessons someone posted below also look interesting and like they’re definitely running. Returning from the motherland over the weekend, I’ll send you a message once we’re back. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 7:40am)
  • Best cheesecake I ever had was at Two Fat Ladies on Blythswood Street. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 9th Oct 2021 10:23am)
  • Last time I went to a retrospective of Soviet Sci-fi at the GFT it was full of guys on their own (including me). by GassenhauerUK (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:30am)
  • Strictly speaking it was an Andrei Tarkovsky retrospective, but the GFT is a great place for geeking out on films and being comfortable in amongst a silent brethren of the socially awkward. by GassenhauerUK (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:55am)
  • Man, the fried chicken! The fried chicken is sooooo good! by GassenhauerUK (Mon 11th Oct 2021 2:00pm)
  • No, we all went home and interacted through internet forums instead. by GassenhauerUK (Mon 11th Oct 2021 4:55pm)
  • ‘ThE SeAcH BaR’, I realise there are many barbers in Glasgow, I’m asking after people’s personal experiences of a particular speciality. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 3:27pm)
  • Cool, well thanks for taking the time out of your day to comment. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 3:57pm)
  • Aye, I’ve kind of been doing that to keep it tidy. Was sort of looking forward to finding someone who really knew what they were doing. Thanks for the advice. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 4:35pm)
  • Thanks for the recommendation! by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 4:44pm)
  • Ah, well, we all have off days. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check them out. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 4:40pm)
  • Thanks! I’ll make sure to check them out. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 16th Oct 2021 6:16pm)
  • I saw a couple of delegates outside Silverburn last week. You could tell they were delegates as they were driving the kind of cars and wearing the kind of suits that you just don’t see in Pollok. They looked like men who would be committed to protecting business interests from the impact of climate change [protest]. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 9th Nov 2021 7:27am)
  • The West coast’s little slice of Surrey... by GassenhauerUK (Tue 9th Nov 2021 7:55pm)
  • As other people have said, the walks and views up on the Braes are great. Killoch Glen is a particularly lovely spot, as is Duncarnoch Fort (known as the Craggie), which for a short walk affords a gobsmacking view. Great place for a picnic on a nice day! by GassenhauerUK (Tue 16th Nov 2021 9:04pm)
  • I was in Buddies on Pollokshaws road and two guys came in wanting to their hot wings challenge. Can’t remember how many wings they we’re supposed to eat in five minutes, but it was a lot and they were very, very, hot. To be honest it was mildly disturbing to watch. They came in two happy go lucky lads and five minutes later were jabbering and crying like they’d just come back from Nam... and they both failed. Anyway, if your up for a challenge... by GassenhauerUK (Sat 4th Dec 2021 8:23pm)
  • Funny story, when I first moved to Glasgow, I didn’t understand that as a cyclist I was meant to turn up onto the pavement, and cycled through the actual road Clyde tunnel... which was also shut to one lane each direction at the time... don’t ever do that. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 2:07pm)
  • From my own experience, I’d say the panic can be a powerful motivational force. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 5:54pm)
  • Yeah, somehow survived but definitely lost one of my nine lives that day. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 5:58pm)
  • Oh, yeah defiantly a few toots. On the way down it was terrifying, on the way back up it was terrifying and like cycling up a fairly full on gradient at full gas whilst smoking 50 fags. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 5:57pm)
  • Yeah, I was between concrete walls before I realised I was definitely in the wrong place. They don’t make it clear though, do they? by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 5:56pm)
  • I used to go practice around the Glasgow Museums’ Resource Centre after work, down in Nitshill at the end of Woodhead road. Completely deserted after 5, and has a little roundabout to practice on too. by GassenhauerUK (Tue 25th Jan 2022 8:52pm)
  • These guys definitely do the best cinnamon buns I’ve ever eaten. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 5th Feb 2022 12:05pm)
  • Got hit by a car on my bike once, and used DB. They were good, but took a fair whack of the compensation. I got hit by another car a few years later, and used a company that were also good but didn’t take any of my compensation. Can’t remember for the life of me what they were called, but there are clearly better companies out there who will give you a better deal. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 26th Mar 2022 9:30pm)
  • I was in Buddies in the south side, and some guys came in to do the ‘hit lot wings challenge.’ Think they had to eat like 20 extremely hot hot wings in five minutes. It was as honestly disturbing to watch. Two happy, normal lads just turned into jabbering ruins in front of my eyes… by GassenhauerUK (Sun 24th Apr 2022 10:37pm)
  • We went for a walk around Barcraigs reservoir today. Its just south of Johnston/Howwood. I'd cycled past it a few times, and been curious. It was almost completely deserted. There was a cranky fisherman who was a bit grumpy about us parking in the otherwise empty angling club carpark, but there are a few spots on the road. Beyond that there were just a couple of other families swimming and a few canoers. It was a pretty idlic day... The Boarding House in Howwood is a decent family pub too if you looking for a little nearby infrustructure. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 13th Aug 2022 8:35pm)
  • I got into a rut. Had a bad back, bad knees, was getting out of shape. I was thinking, 'this is it, you're 36, and youth is over.' Someone recommended pilates, and I signed up to do inferno hot pilates at Glasgow Hot Yoga in Battlefield. It was amazing, super intense but it makes you feel great (after your first two or three visits at least, it'll make you feel pretty sick at first!). I went two/three times a week for a year or so (over zoom during the pandemic). I stopped when my wife and I had a kid, but I now know the exercises well enough to do it at home. I miss the heat, the teachers and the fact that paying a monthly fee forces you to do it. Downsides, where some weird class times. You can do the yoga classes too for the fee, but that never really interested me. by GassenhauerUK (Thu 18th Aug 2022 1:50pm)
  • For sure, and it just got me on track for living a healthier, more active lifestyle. I mean I really committed to it, but if you can force yourself through the first couple of weeks, it becomes a habit. I had sciatica from an old pelvis injury that wasn't treated properly. it flared up a few times, but just let the teachers know what issues you might have and they'll give you adapted versions of the exercises if necessary. Doesn't seem to bother me anymore. If you choose to go along, I hope you have fun! by GassenhauerUK (Thu 18th Aug 2022 3:29pm)
  • Linlithgow is nice to look at when you pass through. It has a castle, a nice church with a very scuptural modernist spire and lots of Mary Queen of Scots history. The view across the Forth Valley when you get to Falkirk High is pretty spectacular too. by GassenhauerUK (Sat 27th Aug 2022 2:37pm)
  • Are you interested in participatory work in the community? Glasgow Connected Arts Network is free to join and hosts networking events: [https://www.glasgowcan.org](https://www.glasgowcan.org) by GassenhauerUK (Mon 29th Aug 2022 7:57pm)
  • No worries.... Actually, do you ever do songwriting in the community? I'm struggling to find someone to work on a project in October/November. It might totally not be your thing, but just thought I'd chance my arm. Feel free to send us a message, and maybe we can have a conversation about it. by GassenhauerUK (Thu 1st Sep 2022 9:16am)
