  • [Some more info on the Glasgow contingent here](https://www.freedomfromtorture.org/about_us/freedom_from_torture_scotland_in_glasgow) and [in general here](https://www.freedomfromtorture.org/about_us). Their display is in the museum on the wall to the library if you're keen! by Knifa (Mon 15th Apr 2019 12:40pm)
  • [Monzo stopped doing pre-paid](https://monzo.com/blog/2018/01/18/future-of-prepaid/). You can use BACS like a regular account. by Knifa (Fri 26th Apr 2019 5:08pm)
  • eBay is going to be easier than trying to find it somewhere in town. by Knifa (Mon 6th May 2019 11:58pm)
  • I can print it for a couple of quid if you like. Send me a PM. by Knifa (Sat 11th May 2019 10:04am)
  • 3DHubs changed to selling parts themselves rather than the community marketplace so it costs a bomb now. :( by Knifa (Fri 17th May 2019 12:48am)
  • [Arrange for a bulk uplift from the council](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/bulkywaste) and find some pals to help you carry it downstairs or [pay somebody to take it out of your gaff](https://www.gumtree.com/removal-services/glasgow/uplift). Don't just leave it outside. It sounds like your letting agency are at it though. They should definitely come take that sort of stuff away. by Knifa (Thu 12th Sep 2019 11:24pm)
  • [I've got loads of these.](https://www.banggood.com/100pcs-5mmx2mm-N52-Strong-Round-Magnets-Rare-Earth-NdFeB-Neodymium-Magnets-p-988439.html?rmmds=myorder) I wouldn't say they're super strong but they can hold a pencil to a fridge --- will probably work for a hall effect sensor. Send me a PM and I can try get one to you. by Knifa (Tue 5th Nov 2019 12:53am)
  • [Check Dronesafe](https://dronesafe.uk/). If it's 250g or heavier you need to [register with the CAA as a pilot and operator](https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/). You need to pass an easy online test and pay the £9 registration fee. After, you need to stick ID labels with your operator ID on it on your drone. The likelihood of being checked is very slim but it's worth avoiding any hassle by getting it done. Can also recommend [getting some liability insurance](https://www.fpvuk.org/) --- it's mega cheap. by Knifa (Sun 23rd Feb 2020 10:50pm)
  • Aye, I missed that, sorry! Just edited the post there. IIRC I saw that they're planning on changing the law to be 250g or above, OR ALSO anything that can capture personal information (e.g., camera, microphone, etc.) to close the loophole. Struggling to Google for the links I had on it before though. I'd keep an eye on it just in case. Don't be a mad cunt and fly over populated areas with people and cars and you'll be generally aight. by Knifa (Sun 23rd Feb 2020 11:00pm)
  • Yeah, absolutely. It takes about 10 minutes tops. The test is just an online multiple choice one. by Knifa (Mon 24th Feb 2020 12:01am)
  • We're offering [these masks](https://imgur.com/a/sUSftBV) for free to key workers if they need them, e.g., hospitals, care homes, pharmacies, etc. They're obviously no replacement for proper certified PPE but are infinitely better than nothing. Hit us up on [our website](http://print2help.com/) or [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/print2help/), or even just send me a PM and we can try help you out. by Knifa (Mon 27th Apr 2020 2:39pm)

  • Is this not a mains powered alarm? Looks like it seeing the plastic channel going into it, as well as you not being able to get into it. by Knifa (Sat 30th May 2020 6:10pm)
  • Think of it this way: if they want it done, this is most likely the only time they'll ever be able to do it. Moving all your furniture out after the fact would be a nightmare. by Knifa (Mon 1st Jun 2020 10:22am)
  • Maryhill Road has one by the fire station. Got caught out because I thought it was one of the day-based morning/evening ones, not 7-7. by Knifa (Sat 1st Aug 2020 11:13pm)
  • Glasgow is crying out for a decent dedicated makerspace. Feels like every other major city has one with loads of machines and tools, but we've got fuck all. Maklab died a death because it cost a fortune to do anything there. by Knifa (Tue 4th Aug 2020 1:52pm)
  • [Check out O2's coverage checker](https://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker?cm_mmc=affiliate-_-204909-_-blank-_-blank&awc=3235_1597840599_349ac3d4b42ad17b5fcbf8f48abb766e). Glasgow has practically no 5G coverage, especially not inside. Outdoors walking around the city centre, maybe. You'll get great 4G pretty much everywhere though. by Knifa (Wed 19th Aug 2020 1:37pm)
  • Shut at 9pm on Friday just there. Don't think they've updated anything, annoyingly. by Knifa (Mon 7th Sep 2020 1:56pm)
  • You get paid more upfront at the start of the year. by Knifa (Tue 22nd Sep 2020 10:43am)
  • https://2ndhnd.com/ sell good 2nd hand office chairs (Aerons, etc.) and will deliver. Not local though. by Knifa (Wed 30th Sep 2020 12:25pm)
  • It's worth it if you're using it all day everyday e.g., remote work, save your back and all that. Can't imagine paying full price brand new for any of them though. They've got genuine bargains every now and then. by Knifa (Wed 30th Sep 2020 12:34pm)
  • Pre-COVID, I'd ride an EUC along the canal path from town and back every day without any hassle. Police won't cause you bother if you're not a cunt --- had a few encounters and they're generally just curious. Scooters have become a bit more popular this year and I've seen way more folk out on them, so YMMV. EUCs take up less footprint than a scooter or a OneWheel (pretty much just standing space), though, so I always felt that helped. They are absolutely illegal though. Never went on the road, mind, and wouldn't want to. by Knifa (Fri 27th Nov 2020 7:09pm)
  • Sunny G is always the answer. Always something mad on, any time of the day. by Knifa (Mon 4th Jan 2021 11:48pm)
  • They're in very short supply everywhere. Best bet is to [keep an eye on Stock Informer](https://www.stockinformer.co.uk/checker-nintendo-switch). Looks like they're [in stock on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07W6HNZNW/ref=olp_aod_redir?th=1) at a premium from weirdo sellers. Don't think you'll find it in town. by Knifa (Wed 13th Jan 2021 7:09pm)
  • Is this one of those skate ramps at the side of the transport museum? by Knifa (Fri 12th Feb 2021 4:31am)
  • Don't think you're going to find what you're looking for unless someone's got their own machine in their gaff. Closest you'll get are the euro machines at Soar, bowling alleys, etc. Can't think of anywhere in Glasgow that would have the right arcade vibe (or be an arcade at all) to have them in. by Knifa (Mon 17th May 2021 3:38pm)
  • [Pretty much everywhere near the university is paid parking](https://glasgowgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c7573c30724645c7861698125682b78a), though you can get a permit if you live in one of the zones right by it. For free parking you're going to be going further up into Queen Market Drive / Maryhill zone which is usually pretty congested. I wouldn't count on anything that's free parking staying free with the rate parking controls are going up. If you can suss it out, or at least just get away with keeping your car wherever you stay and get public transport to uni, it's worth bringing it IMO. Lots of nice places to visit near/in/around Glasgow that takes aeons to get to with public transport vs. a quick drive. by Knifa (Fri 21st May 2021 1:44am)
  • I wouldn't worry about it really unless you're planning on staying in a really rough area, haha! Most housing around the university is flats anyway so you'd be in good company with other folk parking on the street. by Knifa (Fri 21st May 2021 1:53am)
  • If you check on the website for rescheduling your vac, the hydro has lots of appointments all this week. Moved mine to tomorrow morning last night. https://vacs.nhs.scot/ by Knifa (Mon 14th Jun 2021 10:06am)
  • Sometimes the man/men will also do the heavy lifting. Easiest thing to do is to ask. If you're doing a bunch of furniture, might be best to get actual movers so they can tetris it into the van properly. by Knifa (Tue 13th Jul 2021 7:52pm)

  • Locavore's is decent, and you can order extra stuff alongside it each week. You can add exemptions for things you really don't like. It's good to try get you to use up things you wouldn't use otherwise, so if you don't think you'd do that might not be worth it, sure. by Knifa (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 2:46pm)
  • It's pot luck, you can pick a box size and they give you what's in season from nearby! by Knifa (Thu 22nd Jul 2021 3:56pm)

  • Just the 35 quid unless you've got loads of massive stuff. > We will collect up to 10 standard items for £35. > > Large electrical items are charged at £35 each. by Knifa (Sat 21st Aug 2021 10:28pm)
  • The newer ones are up the nose only at least. by Knifa (Fri 8th Oct 2021 6:03pm)
  • It's the time taken driving versus public transport that always gets me here, is the thing. I'm near enough to the city centre and we're talking e.g., 15m driving to get to Mugdock, but it would be 1h30m on the bus. 25m to get to Queen Park, but 50m with a train/combo hassle. It's alright if you've got the time to spare. by Knifa (Wed 20th Oct 2021 3:47pm)
  • You are chasing an impossible goal trying to get anything in a tenement to be level/straight/at 90° angles to anything else. by Knifa (Sun 31st Oct 2021 7:16pm)
  • Hopefully it's alright to link this straight up. Folk seemed happy enough when the crowdfunder went up earlier this year. Missed their post myself about the Patreon and only caught a quick mention of it on the radio, so thought I'd stick it in here. by Knifa (Sun 7th Nov 2021 2:10am)
  • It sounds like you want to work somewhere in person in Glasgow --- are you tied to that? You can really easily make double or triple what you're suggesting there with a full remote job (e.g., London or Dublin based). Regional salaries are long past their time. by Knifa (Tue 9th Nov 2021 10:39pm)
  • Stick your job on [mybuilder.com](http://mybuilder.com) and go for the cheapest quote from the highest rated person. Used it loads of times, way better than trying to phone around unless you know someone really personally. by Knifa (Tue 16th Nov 2021 8:58am)
  • What do you need an instructor for? If you're not needing refresher lessons, it's just handled by DVLA and you can just do it on the [gov.uk website](https://www.gov.uk/exchange-foreign-driving-licence). by Knifa (Mon 17th Jan 2022 12:02pm)
  • Ah, fair play! Most instructors are booked solid at the minute as is, hearing from pals that've been trying to get lessons, etc. Hope you find somebody. :) by Knifa (Mon 17th Jan 2022 12:06pm)
  • Happened to me this week as well! Rubbish. by Knifa (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 6:28pm)
  • Been to that one and it was decent enough. Didn't feel like we needed any more stuff. Don't think I'd do it again though, sounded like it would be cathartic but it was a bit awkward honestly. by Knifa (Wed 9th Mar 2022 6:23pm)
  • They [are actually community interest company](https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/SC412721). Had me worried there. Matches the registration number on their website, which does just say they're a limited company to be fair. by Knifa (Fri 25th Nov 2022 8:38pm)
  • [Sumo Storage have been decent to me](https://sumostorage.co.uk/). Not a chain, and were easy to deal with. Went with them since their Google reviews are outstanding. I pay 40/mo for [2sqm roughly](https://imgur.com/a/ecoVhDQ). by Knifa (Tue 26th Sep 2023 12:43pm)
