  • What a dafty. They do nearly made it too. I can just hear them saying “nearly there...nearly there...shit.” by PauloRodriguez (Sat 3rd Aug 2019 7:11pm)
  • I’m not sure they’ll do it, however the Glasgow Angling Centre might be able to advise you. by PauloRodriguez (Sat 3rd Aug 2019 11:03pm)
  • Agreed, I was watching folk ditch pairs at Dumbreck station thinking “what a waste”. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 18th Aug 2019 5:40pm)
  • Another thumbs up for Kenny’s music, the staff couldn’t be friendlier and they’ve a decent selection. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 2nd Sep 2019 2:59pm)
  • It’s larch road in Dumbreck. I lived there for awhile and was stunned when I saw Limmy for the first time. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 8th Sep 2019 1:58pm)
  • What about us brain-dead slobs? by PauloRodriguez (Mon 6th Jan 2020 11:35pm)
  • I’d second both of these, I’ve been to both venues a few times and had a decent time. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 16th Jan 2020 7:16pm)

  • The suggestions above are good ones. Hope everything goes ok for you. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 27th Feb 2020 8:36pm)
  • That’s what baffles me the most - even if you’re locked away for a fortnight, there’s a limit to how much you can really need. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 8th Mar 2020 6:45pm)
  • I thought so too by PauloRodriguez (Sun 8th Mar 2020 8:35pm)
  • I’d recommend your first port of call be your GP, who should be able to recommend appropriate services for someone in your circumstances. Best of luck to you. by PauloRodriguez (Wed 11th Mar 2020 10:56am)
  • £75 isn’t a bad deal as had been said, esp if it’s fiddly. Other than that, your best bet is to then do it yourself. If you’re after what I’d call a proper extension I.e. with a wall box, then assuming you’ve some basic tools - drill, screwdriver etc you’d need. 1) an extension kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=telephone+extension+kit+30m&sprefix=telephone+extension+kit&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_6_23 2) IDC punchdown tool https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07BRFBVR1/ref=sspa_mw_detail_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1 3) instructions https://youtu.be/h6TqFcAOIcM It’s not a hard job - my advice would be to test wire the box first to make sure you’ve learned how to wire it correctly. Once you’ve confirmed it works, disconnect it, then run and install the wiring. Good luck by PauloRodriguez (Wed 11th Mar 2020 2:50pm)
  • I’ve got mine running alongside my coving and skirting, I used the little white clips with nails. Staples are a good idea, how close can you get to a raised edge? by PauloRodriguez (Wed 11th Mar 2020 7:53pm)
  • You’re very welcome - and don’t be put off trying it yourself. If the instructions in the video make sense then having the punch down tool makes wiring it up a doddle and then it’s just a case of keeping it neat and taking your time. by PauloRodriguez (Fri 13th Mar 2020 5:05pm)
  • I’m currently self isolating so probably not the person to ask! by PauloRodriguez (Fri 13th Mar 2020 9:28pm)
  • Get yourself home, wherever that may be. You’ve no idea how long this will last for, and unless you’ve significant cash reserves, you may have no way of paying to keep a roof over your head if this continues into 2021. Look after yourself. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 17th Mar 2020 11:28am)
  • Looking forward to having you back again in the future! by PauloRodriguez (Tue 17th Mar 2020 12:53pm)

  • My pleasure by PauloRodriguez (Fri 27th Mar 2020 2:20pm)
  • This is bang on. We had to do the same between two different councils. We originally had our application rejected, but had a good conversation with the nursery and the council about why we needed to use a cross boundary nursery. They council were understanding thankfully and made sure we got accepted at the next review. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 9th Apr 2020 6:25pm)
  • You’re welcome - good luck! by PauloRodriguez (Fri 10th Apr 2020 8:45am)
  • Oh man, I loved that! When I moved to Glasgow it’s one of the first things I remember seeing. What’ve “proper” graffiti artists got against these? Feels like nothing but jealousy to me. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 12th Apr 2020 9:24am)
  • I think some folk find it healthy to think and chat about something other than the horror of the pandemic once in a while. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 12th Apr 2020 9:20am)
  • Indeed. And remember - you’re doing a terrific job. My words won’t come up close to adequately compensating you, jus my know we’re all rooting for you. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 12th Apr 2020 10:51am)
  • I’ve never heard of or tried Spätzle before - looking forward to giving it a go! by PauloRodriguez (Fri 24th Apr 2020 6:55pm)

  • I always assumed that “Kilbride” was the Gaelic word for roundabout, it’s the only explanation why there are so many of the things. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 9th Jun 2020 10:03am)
  • Glasgow’s roads are a special bunch all right. I can’t tell if it’s the poor signage or inconsistent logic, but as you say they were designed by a mad man. It’s the only place that comes close to knocking Manchester off of the top spot for “most batshit insane roads in the UK”. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 9th Jun 2020 10:06am)
  • Ha! Me too! by PauloRodriguez (Tue 9th Jun 2020 10:20am)
  • It’s difficult to say on account if Covid, asking your solicitor about the current market is a good first step. Usually, I’d say you’re looking at least 10% over the home report value, even if it’s a fixer upper. It’s a popular school catchment area and it unfortunately drives the prices. We found that out when we moved here. The same is true of Giffnock and Mearns. If schools aren’t a priority you’ll get more for your money elsewhere. If you’re moving here for the schools then Busby is also worth considering. If you’re not from the area and have a question about it feel free to drop me a message. by PauloRodriguez (Wed 24th Jun 2020 11:28pm)
  • Public transport to there from East Ren is pretty poor, driving is the only practical option. It’s about 25-35 minutes from Clarkston depending on traffic. You want to be on the road from about 07.15 if you’re planning on taking the M77 and want it to take that length of time. It just gets busier with every passing minute and will continue to do so as Newton Mearns expands. by PauloRodriguez (Fri 26th Jun 2020 10:20am)
  • Wild flowers are getting less and less common these days, though with council services suspended during lockdown more are appearing on verges with the grass not being cut. I’d start there and leave anything in a park or public space that may have been cultivated. And leave plenty for the bees. by PauloRodriguez (Fri 26th Jun 2020 12:47pm)
  • Lovely story! Reminds me of the Still Game episode were they built the wee garden on top of the flats. by PauloRodriguez (Fri 26th Jun 2020 12:54pm)
  • You’ll have more success generating a discussion on it if you can suggest some positives that might come out of it Probecard. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 28th Jun 2020 12:44pm)
  • A few homeless folk have told me the same - they feel safer sleeping rough than being indoors with some of the characters in the shelter by PauloRodriguez (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:23pm)
  • There is no excuse for causing trouble or harassing passers by. I won’t pretend to understand the factors that cause homelessness. I’d guess if I had no home, no friends, no mental stimulation and was generally ignored by the world at large, then I’d imagine that drink or drugs would be a pretty big draw, to dull the senses if nothing else. It’s a very difficult problem to fix for all concerned. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:33pm)
  • I used to live in G41 and it was fine on a BT line, got the 56mbps down that was advertised and around 7mbps up. If you’re GF using the connection for something as minor as snapchat interrupts your connection that badly for 5 minutes, it points to the most likely culprit being a problem your end. Does your router have Quality of Service (QoS) settings that let you prioritise the traffic over certain applications or ports? If so then I’d give that a whirl first. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 6th Jul 2020 7:44am)
  • A decent router is always a good investment. Before spending any money though do call your ISP and see what sort of speeds you should be getting , esp the upload speed. If it’s a lot higher than what you’re getting, and you’ve set it up correctly, then push for them to sort it for you first. It’s win win for you - either they sort it or you’ve a way out of your contact with them. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 6th Jul 2020 2:53pm)
  • Ta, I should have thought to add that by PauloRodriguez (Wed 15th Jul 2020 2:25pm)
  • I’ve used them in the past too, I was thorough happy with them. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 21st Jul 2020 7:30pm)
  • Amen. I spent a while living in Chester - the land of wannabe footballers and footballer’s wives. Antisocial as hell. I had more random chats my first week in Glasgow than the years I lived there. It’s one of a few reasons Glasgow turned from a temporary stay into my home. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 23rd Jul 2020 6:20pm)
  • I take it everyone else heard Ned’s voice right? And perhaps changed it to neighbourino? by PauloRodriguez (Fri 14th Aug 2020 7:55am)
  • Me too please - I’d love to recreate your stunning work. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 17th Aug 2020 4:16pm)
  • This is sound advice - make sure you’ve evidence of your attempts to proactively resolve it. I had a similar beef that escalated to threats of court action; having records of my attempts stopped the threats in their tracks. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 17th Aug 2020 5:13pm)
  • Thank you very much, it’s appreciated! by PauloRodriguez (Mon 17th Aug 2020 8:01pm)
  • SIMD is a good tool - keep in mind though it’s not 100% right given it’s reliance on group via postcode data. For example, Dumbreck and lots of Mosspark are gorgeous areas - but fall into the G41 postcode which increases their deprivation ranking. Use SIMD as a baseline, then make your own inquiries to be sure. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 24th Aug 2020 9:56am)
  • Underground rail - you can’t get lost going in a circle. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 25th Aug 2020 10:32am)
  • I used the home removals company a few years back. Just under £1,200 for them to pack and move a very full 3 bed house with some garden and attic contents too. This was a Glasgow to Glasgow move. They were a great bunch, I’d thoroughly recommend them. Part of the reason for the “visit for a quote” is that the average person struggles to estimate exactly how much they have. We’d moved fairly recently before so I already knew exactly how much needed shifted, but without that I’d have struggled to give them the info they needed. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 30th Aug 2020 10:59am)
  • Best to be avoided unless you’re sure of what you’re having your fire on. In the right conditions and location the hot embers can burn down into the ground and then move along - the fire effectively burrows underground. Extinguishing the fire won’t necessarily be enough if the fire has already spread. Less chance of this just now are low given the wet weather, but it’s one of the primary reasons for avoiding having a fire on the ground that leaves scorch marks - it’s as much about avoiding this scenario as it is cosmetic. If want to do this then get yourself a wee fire bucket. They normally come with legs that are long enough to keep the heat away from the ground, small enough to cook a wee bit of food and aren’t so large that you will risk the surroundings igniting. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 8th Sep 2020 5:24pm)
  • Another tip - never put stones under, in, or on a fire. Stone is porous and will absorb water to some degree. That water can become superheated and expand rapidly, causing the stone to crack and explode in the worst of cases. This is especially true of stones found near a riverbank. by PauloRodriguez (Tue 8th Sep 2020 7:02pm)
  • You’re right, though why go through the hassle refusing it. For the satisfaction of telling the Police their business you’ve now got a trip to a local station within 7 days to do exactly what you could have just done their and then. Just roll your eyes quietly to yourself if it helps and be done with it. by PauloRodriguez (Sat 21st Nov 2020 11:27am)
  • I think the 50m rule specifies it be a horizontal distance - not vertical. I’m not overly fussed, esp as I liked the shot, just be mindful of the difference OP. One over zealous polis and it’s a hefty old fine. by PauloRodriguez (Sat 9th Jan 2021 10:23pm)
  • I wouldn’t say arsehole is the word. I think folk in Glasgow do drive more aggressively than other places I’ve lived (Manchester was the worst), but not out of anger or maliciousness, more for self protection from the sheer number of cars that are on the road at some of the busy times. Rush hour has a real vibe of organised chaos, but folk do seem for the most part to signal and let each other in. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 29th Apr 2021 6:37pm)
  • There’s a company called Forest Craft who do this sort of work - they can build you a cabin from the ground up as well as making it habitable. They’ve a few Scottish Branches - closest is Newhouse, so maybe worth giving them a shout to quote for the latter. by PauloRodriguez (Sun 2nd May 2021 11:39am)
  • I’m assuming you’re on a budget? If so, prioritise accordingly as lessons ain’t cheap. A resource I’d definitely recommend is the book “Kana can be easy” Kunihiko Ogawa. A second hand copy is about £6. The Japanese have three writing systems - Katakana, Hiragana and Kanjii. The book teaches you to read the first and write the first two which is immensely helpful. Katakana is the first writing system learnt by children, and combined with it’s written to use Western words means a lot of the signage is written it. You can usually figure out the meaning of a word simply just saying it aloud to yourself as the spoken translation is fairly close. Hiragana is the next one and is used for writing Japanese words. Get yourself a copy of Pimsleur Japanese Basic Course (under £20 second hand) too - it’ll give you a good grounding in some of the basic conversational phrases you’ll need. Add in a phrase book once you’re over there, and that gives you a pretty decent starting point for under £30. The first time I went I managed with just Katakana, and some basic phrases such as “hello, how much is this? One of those please” Where is that? Excuse me, please say that again, and some time telling (and learning to understand the responses). Good luck on your language Journey! by PauloRodriguez (Mon 3rd May 2021 8:32am)

  • If you find yourself on Victoria Road then I can recommend Milk cafe. I’m not a vegan myself, but I found their vegan cakes very enjoyable. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 19th Jul 2021 12:25pm)
  • Before you look into it, are you sure the drive just isn’t being mounted (given a drive letter and then shown in Windows explorer). Can happen for a variety of reasons. I’ve had a lot of folk encounter this problem over the years who thought the drive was broken. Open up Disk Manager, and make a note of any drives that are displayed. Then connect your external SSD. If it then appears then changes are good you can just mount it and assign a drive letter by following the instructions below… https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/assign-a-mount-point-folder-path-to-a-drive To mount a drive in an empty folder by using the Windows interface In Disk Manager, right-click the partition or volume that has the folder in which you want to mount the drive. Click Change Drive Letter and Paths and then click Add. Click Mount in the following empty NTFS folder. Type the path to an empty folder on an NTFS volume, or click Browse to locate it. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 28th Feb 2022 1:08pm)
  • Outside of the greater Glasgow area there are lots of lovely commuter towns, but not many of them are reasonably priced and within a 30min journey of the hospital during peak hours. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 7th Mar 2022 5:45pm)
  • That it is, though it’s going to take you around 20-25 mins to reach the west side of East Renfrewshire. You’ve still then got to get to the QEUH and that’s going to double that time - and that’s before you add in traffic. I’m not saying that it’s not a nice reasonable place, just that reaching it in 30 mins is unrealistic. by PauloRodriguez (Mon 7th Mar 2022 8:58pm)
  • It’s been a few years since I ordered one, I think paid about £150 & £200 respectively for 6 and 8 yard skips to be placed on private drives. I think the price may be greater if you place one on a public highway as a permit is (or at least was) needed. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 21st Apr 2022 5:55pm)
  • What would you recommend instead? by PauloRodriguez (Thu 12th May 2022 2:46pm)
  • Thank you, I’ll try them next time I’m through. by PauloRodriguez (Thu 12th May 2022 10:16pm)
