  • My partner and I used to get knocked back from Maggie Mays all the time to the point it became a joke between us. Sometimes we'd be going back home and decide to get one for the road only to be told "sorry guys, not tonight". Other times we'd go there after work at about 1am, completely sober, same result. One time we got knocked back at the front door but tried our luck at the side entrance. That bouncer was sound and let us in. We stood at the bar with our drinks and the bouncer from the front door saw us and kept walking by with a pure raging look on his face. We still chuckle about that. What's weird though is that if either of us went there with friends there was never any issue getting in. by SherbertComplex6196 (Tue 28th Jun 2022 9:42am)

  • Aye don't get me wrong GCC are absolute cowboys but a lot of the mess in the city could be sorted if everyone just did the bare minimum of disposing of their rubbish properly. • When I was buying last year I noticed all the prices in these websites were always at least 10% short of the home report value. Saying that it's still cheap for a 2 bedroom that close to the city centre. Mate of mine lived in that building for a few years and it's nicer than some places I've lived. If I had the cash I'd take it for a buy to let. by SherbertComplex6196 (Thu 8th Dec 2022 10:53pm)
  • I bought last year in the east end. From my experience the prices quoted on websites mean nothing, add on an average of 10% to get an estimate of the home report value (HRV). A couple of the agents really knew their stuff about the flats, local area and the current market but most just directed us to the home report. One guy opened the door and waited outside and never really spoke to me. I'm lucky that I got my flat for the home report value. The owner had moved to Oz and had been trying to sell for about 6 months. I put the offer in thinking they'd reject it but at least it would give me an idea of what they want. Was surprised when they accepted. I had another offer accepted for £5,000 over the HRV before this. That one fell through at the last minute because of a rift between the family members who inherited it. I guess it really depends on who's selling. Most folk want as much money as possible which is understandable, though I spoke to 2 couples who said they didn't want to sell to a landlord. My guy obviously just wanted a quick sale at the right price, I'm happy and I'm sure he is as well. The whole process was pretty straight forward tbh, though tbf I'd just came back from working overseas and had a lot of free time. I'm sure the market has picked up a bit in the may year though will probably allow down again due to the cost of living crisis. by SherbertComplex6196 (Fri 9th Dec 2022 12:54pm)

  • The two-point pour does not affect the amount of gas in the pint so wouldn't be the reason it was flat, most likely the CO2 needs changed. Typically if you single pour a pint of Guinness you just end up with a massive head. by SherbertComplex6196 (Thu 5th Jan 2023 1:12pm)

  • Most of my mates in Glasgow are just people I've met in the local metal scene over the years. Christ, I met my Mrs in Rufus through a guy I knew from the Crow Bar. Point being go out and mingle. Folk in the rock and metal scene are, for the most part, pretty welcoming. by SherbertComplex6196 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 6:19pm)
  • A little bit of empathy and manners go a long way. Worked in hospitality and retail for years. Most people are sound, but it just takes that one arsehole to just ruin your day. • Ronin Grappling in Rutherglen is a super chill place to train with a wide range of experience. MNBJJ in Tradeston is also top tier. Most places you go to will cater to your lack of experience, jui jitsu training is really chill compared to other martial arts/combat sports. Good luck. by SherbertComplex6196 (Mon 20th Feb 2023 9:42am)

  • Haghill. Lots of bars and restaurants, cheaper than the west end. Easy access to the city centre and merchant city, lots of gay bars there. This place has a bit of a reputation but it's very much based on the past. Keep yourself to yourself and no one will bother you. by SherbertComplex6196 (Thu 13th Apr 2023 1:57pm)
  • Celinos and Amore' are on the Parade. For the sake of arguing, there's nothing wrong with the La Cala or Lea Rig. But aye, since he's coming from the Netherlands I'm sure he can take the 5 minute doss down to Duke St and check it out. by SherbertComplex6196 (Fri 14th Apr 2023 12:39am)
  • Fully aware thanks, used to live on Marwick St. Aye, but the guy's visiting the whole city, not just Haghill. Just saying it'd be better for getting about. by SherbertComplex6196 (Fri 14th Apr 2023 3:47pm)

  • Nah mate, I'd say the side Duke St train station is on is definitely Haghill. Basically, Cumbernauld Rd is the border, that's what I think anyway. by SherbertComplex6196 (Wed 27th Sep 2023 12:38pm)
