He has a studio in the Glasgow city church as well so you can practice there. He charged me £20-30 for 2 hour lesson each week I remember. • Coming from the south of England I have got to say Glasgow’s properties are very affordable despite of the recent raise in value. Although the salary down south tends to be higher, the post tax income narrows the margin. The post tax income to property price ratio down south is much higher than Glasgow and over the pandemic quite a few people relocated and “discovered Glasgow”. I think folks from down south(myself included) might have driven up the prices. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 8:58am)

  • I think it drills down to where people(employee and clients) want to live. Edinburgh has a much better reputation so it would attract a wider talent pool from down south and globally. Glasgow on the other hand is lesser known. Westend is v nice but I feel like a lot of people passing Glasgow would have missed it. M8 cutting the city in half is really not ideal. • Slightly different ball game for you as you can't easily change jobs while you are on your visa tho market is v hot. Usually the most lucrative bits of tech is when you move out of your first job/ go contracting. With 3-5 YOE, contracting day rate would be at least £400. Perm would put you at £45-55k depending on you stack. If you are welling to do London based job you could be on £500 per day and £65k. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 2:48pm)

  • For accommodation you could have a look at Shawland as well. They have a bit more space there without the competition from the students etc. £1000 will get you a larger space too. For west end you might struggle a bit with that budget. Rooms are going for £550 without bills at minimum. What do you do for a living at the moment? There are a couple of fancy wine places round but I think the chances is that you would be on just above minimum wage which can be a bit grim in the UK compare to Nordic countries. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Mon 3rd Oct 2022 8:03pm)

  • There is no use protesting to a SNP government. They are not in charge and a GE will just mean SNP winning here again. If anything asking for a GE now will result in a labour gov which will reduce the likelihood of independence by Wrong_Complex8794 (Fri 21st Oct 2022 6:28pm)
  • ^This by Wrong_Complex8794 (Fri 21st Oct 2022 10:42pm)
  • OP is asking about a protest for GE. In Scotland that’s pointless because a GE will lead to another SNP majority and result in no change. If a GE is held then labour will be in power and make Independence less likely. That’s the only outcome. Independence seems to be a way to insulate ourselves from the Tories and WM politics/ English voters. By having the tories in power we will have a better chance of going independent. Does that make sense? by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 22nd Oct 2022 12:47am)
  • That’s the thing tho… I don’t disagree with all the PROBLEMS that you have pointed out. I care about the folks down south as well. I am English myself living in Scotland who d support independence. All my fam and many pals are down south. But you know what? they voted for the mess in WM now not us. They go sort it out. I m not going to tell em what they do. Welsh, Scottish, NI voters made our voice quite clear already in the last GE. Additionally, what are the SOLUTIONS or what are you actually protesting for? Is it for a new GE? Is it to get Tories out? Is it to rejoin the EU? If it is just to show people are unhappy, I think everyone already know shit has hit the fan if not the turbo jet. There is no doubt the Tory is out already but it’s just a question of in which order it happens. If labour get in before independence then we might remain in the UK. 10 years 20 years down the line Tories maybe back in power and same shit again. We can’t protest for folks down south not vote for Tories. The rational way is to leave and continue trading with em just like our European partners and join as many singles markets and avoiding political unions. I m not trying to patronise you or try to get you to agree with me either.A bit of debate is always healthy and not everyone need to think or behave the same way. You can judge me rather than hear me all you like but that attitude put you in the same category of people you think I am. That precise the symptom of global and UK politics today whoever shouts the louder wins. No one is listening. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 22nd Oct 2022 9:16am)
  • I guess then the protest should be for proportional representation/ electoral reforms. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 22nd Oct 2022 4:41pm)
  • So can you not be friend with people who have different political views? That’s seems to be a bigger problem tbh. As a matter of fact the majority of them are not Tories. When I am referring “they” I mean the English voters. Lot of traditional labour seats are now Tory. Those areas bare the biggest responsibility to push for a GE. I highlighted my pals and fam are in England as the reply above claims that I don’t care about the English people suffering. I do care but me caring won’t do shit if the English voters keep voting for Tory. And above all who am I to tell em who they should vote for in their own constituencies. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 1:50am)

  • The people and traffic that it draws in continue on for a bit more. I think it’s a good idea to organise events round the city but just not at a residential area. Even relocating to behind the gallery could be good by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 9:43am)
  • The question is benefit vs cost it brings for the community. It’s a public space in the first place. It’s being used for private for profit reasons. I m not against private businesses making a profit but it shouldn’t be at the expense of local residents. This is particularly undesirable when the disruptions can be mitigated but are not. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 10:48am)
  • Yes every residential street probably have one of those but not every residential area have a venue playing loud music for a whole month outside for substantial amount of time. Try to put one next to another residential area I m pretty sure you will find a lot of people unbearable just like I am. It’s a public space being used for private profit. It does create jobs and make west end vibrant but the same benefits could be achieved by relocating the venue behind the gallery or at people palace. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 1:42pm)
  • It’s not emotional tho it’s the truth. If they weren’t next to a residential area then obviously those points wouldn’t be valid. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 2:07pm)
  • I don’t think NHS workers live in non residential areas. Say for example 20m away from people palace or George square where another ice rink is. The point of highlight the NHS workers and family with babies is to show that if you have a venue close to residential area it will inevitably impact everyone differently. Yes the music stops at 10 but some people will be affected disproportionately. If the venue isn’t so close to residential area than these problems wouldn’t exists. It’s the hard fact and there is nothing emotional about that. It’s not like oh well it’s stops at 10 every night, it’s not that late, there people who lead different lives in this city. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 2:22pm)
  • OP is right about lot of things but most of this is out of our control. Unless you up skill yourself or get out of this country there really isn’t much there is to it. To put it simply, we are paying the bills for covid now. It’s China’s fault to conceal the news about virus in the beginning and the world was caught off guard. There was a coronavirus outbreak called SARS in China back in 2001. Back then the Hong Kong media(had press freedom) reported it and the spread was contained. China should be paying for the bill really but the question I guess is: how do we make em pay when they are more powerful than we are. by Wrong_Complex8794 (Mon 12th Dec 2022 2:55am)

  • Thanks for your reply! Agree with all your points on the Americanised suburban planning and property prices. It’s hard to beat Glasgow in terms of value for money. Internet was quite slow as well. Tho on jobs and purchasing power front, the Aussie pay is higher than I expected - 50% higher in Melbourne for what I do specifically. Perhaps the exchange rate since Brexit and inflation in the UK has played a part in that. • Sad to see it go. Definitely feel like it represents an end of an era in Glasgow. When I first set foot in Glasgow 5 years ago, rent were cheap and there was a certain energy to this place. It was like people had the time and resource to focus more on other things rather than just surviving. The last 2 years in particular I think a lot has changed. Prices has gone up significantly to say the least but that certain relaxed vibe to Glasgow has gone as well. Not sure if that's just me or its the post lockdown reopening or cost of living crisis.
