  • Nice try (not really) by desolateisotope (Sun 14th Feb 2021 12:50am)
  • Not disagreeing with you but if the last 4 years have taught us anything it's changing the name on the masthead at the council won't do much for the day to day. More community action outside of election time is key. by desolateisotope (Mon 15th Feb 2021 3:48pm)
  • If you think you're in the wrong band you can apply for an adjustment (though people have done this and ended up raising the band for the whole block instead so it's risky business). by desolateisotope (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 4:24pm)
  • World Cup-level scenes at ours. Funny how Drag Race is about the only thing that brings out the lad in me. Well done Lawrence 🌈 by desolateisotope (Fri 19th Mar 2021 10:32pm)
  • Huh. That is oddly specific. by desolateisotope (Sun 16th May 2021 9:28pm)
  • I'm sure it works different in different places but my work is on Cycle2Work and I didn't have to deal with Halfords at all - like I went to an indy shop with my email from Halfords and they dealt with it, so either way it's definitely possible. by desolateisotope (Sun 18th Jul 2021 7:01pm)
  • Here for the comments - Cafe Nardini used to have very good sfogliatelle but since they shut I haven't tried any others. As a last resort well worth a trip to Naples IMO. by desolateisotope (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 2:00pm)
  • Thank you, this looks very promising! by desolateisotope (Wed 4th Aug 2021 9:49pm)
  • Not quite there yet but I dream of the day I have enough space to need a whole drum! by desolateisotope (Wed 4th Aug 2021 9:51pm)
  • Love the look of the place - a bit further from me but I might give it a go too, thank you! by desolateisotope (Wed 4th Aug 2021 9:50pm)
  • I would second this - it's almost certain these details are getting entered somewhere, but not on your current account. Also, as someone said elsewhere in the thread, do you have a CHI number, i.e. are you registered with an NHS GP? If not that would probably complicate things. by desolateisotope (Thu 19th Aug 2021 8:59am)
  • Yup, Network is still around and IMO by far the best right now. It can be a hefty wait if you try to get it on the spot but I've used them to pre-book dozens of times at this point and they've only failed to turn up once (which still sucked but what can you do) - they do usually turn up 10 or so minutes early so I try to account for that! by desolateisotope (Sat 21st Aug 2021 12:14pm)
  • Been there myself, it's a little over half an hour for me and that's still pretty frustrating. There's definitely mobile sites going round, there was one on George Square the other day but I've no idea how you can find out about those in advance. As for who to speak to, as far as I can tell the centres are ran by the UK government, so in the absence of any clearer leads I'd probably write to your MP about it - not that you're too likely to get anywhere as the gov are clearly very proud of themselves for having these many centres already. by desolateisotope (Fri 24th Sep 2021 4:56pm)
  • Hm, I'd definitely hear it if it was coming into the building (we have suprisingly thin doors) but I suppose it's possible it's going somewhere else nearby. by desolateisotope (Wed 8th Dec 2021 12:56pm)
  • Yep, just checked the delivery email and it's correct, plus when I spoke to Deliveroo they had me confirm it. by desolateisotope (Wed 8th Dec 2021 1:50pm)
  • Yep it does, I've just checked that as well. I've never had a problem with any delivery (including Deliveroo) other than these two so I don't think it's on my side. by desolateisotope (Wed 8th Dec 2021 4:29pm)
  • I'm pretty sure it does actually so that checks out. by desolateisotope (Wed 8th Dec 2021 4:27pm)
  • I saw that for the first time on my flight in when moving to Glasgow, with no friends here and barely a place to stay, and it nearly sent me spiralling lol. I also think it's kinda funny now but it's just very badly thought out. by desolateisotope (Mon 20th Dec 2021 6:43pm)
  • Counterpoint: which ones provide cottaging services? by desolateisotope (Tue 21st Dec 2021 1:05pm)
  • If you need both of them I think your only choice is a Zonecard or a [Glasgow Tripper](https://glasgowtripper.co.uk) card - the latter should be cheaper overall as it's bus only. It's 5.40 pounds for a daily and 22 pounds for a weekly. Full disclosure, I've never used one or heard anyone mention it, but it seems to be a thing! If you can live with just one of them, pretty sure the cheapest tickets you can get will be on their respective apps. by desolateisotope (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 3:20pm)
  • It's not that I haven't been tempted, but someone has to not do it. by desolateisotope (Mon 3rd Jan 2022 10:52pm)
  • Have you considered moving abroad? I swear the state of our mental health care makes me seriously consider it every few months... Rant aside though - I know you've mentioned wanting someone local to Glasgow but if you're willing to try an online service, I've been recommended [Psychiatry UK](https://psychiatry-uk.com/). Their fees are not-not-high, but not also not quite £500 for an assessment. I think they do have reasonably available appointments (except for ADHD though). by desolateisotope (Tue 11th Jan 2022 5:47pm)
  • Always glad to find other '91 (I assume) people who feel that way, makes me feel less alone xD by desolateisotope (Mon 31st Jan 2022 7:04pm)
  • You can [report this to Scottish Water](https://www.scottishwater.co.uk/help-and-resources/contact-us/contacting-us) as an issue - no idea what happens once you do but that would be my advice. I'm pretty confident it's supposed to be delicious (I genuinely don't enjoy water in other cities or even bottled anymore!) so to me it sounds like an issue with your supply in particular, though it might just be preference I suppose. by desolateisotope (Wed 9th Feb 2022 8:15am)
  • I fucking hate it here. "Landmark nature of the building" my arse, I bet the person paid to write this wasn't even given pictures. by desolateisotope (Wed 16th Feb 2022 12:19pm)
  • That's a good shout, though I'd note they don't usually alternate, each line is generally mostly one or the other. by desolateisotope (Sat 19th Feb 2022 7:34pm)
  • New buses on the 60? Never thought I'd see the day. by desolateisotope (Sat 19th Feb 2022 10:50pm)
  • In my humble immigrant opinion, it's a UK-wide problem rather than a Glasgow one. Sure there might be exceptions but London is the only place I've lived where I couldn't bear to wear sandals outside even at 30 degrees. That said, the other day I saw a car pull out at Tesco and the passenger decided to do a clear out, throwing rubbish out the window as they went all the way out of the parking lot. No council can fix that. by desolateisotope (Tue 22nd Feb 2022 1:01am)
  • Like others are saying, get your job to pay for this. But if that's somehow not possible: with train tickets, what you see is what you can get. Maximum (off-peak/anytime) prices are fixed annually by the government and there's no evil algorithm personalising them. Anything below that is simply because you got there in time for an advance ticket. If you're still paranoid, you can use any number of websites to check prices - Avanti, other operators, National Rail, and then third-party websites some of which will also do split fares, allowing you to maybe save a few quid. Other than that, try to figure out exactly when advance tickets are being released for your route (I'm not sure if that's all at the same time), and jump the moment that happens - and keep in mind you're not the only one doing that. by desolateisotope (Thu 31st Mar 2022 9:26am)
  • First Bus is my main motivator to work on my accent (to sound less foreign/more Scottish) - I think you have to nail the exact sound they expect to hear, otherwise it's 2-3 tries every time. If only you could get short hop tickets on the app. by desolateisotope (Fri 1st Apr 2022 2:57pm)
  • I'll try not to take it personally then 😁 by desolateisotope (Fri 1st Apr 2022 7:14pm)
  • Presumably because, **theoretically**, the political will is there for it to be treated as a nationalised service rather than ran under govt ownership for fattening and selling on. Time will tell. by desolateisotope (Mon 4th Apr 2022 10:27pm)
  • What is it with folk filming basically entire gigs on their phones? Is it one of those things like leaving your trolley next to your parking space that half of humanity does and the other half hates and the two halves never talk to each other? I don't get it. Cracking gig at SWG3 tonight otherwise. by desolateisotope (Mon 4th Apr 2022 10:33pm)
  • LGBT experiences with the health service are sometimes so bad, it's easy to see how someone with preexisting mental health issues would come to that conclusion. by desolateisotope (Sun 17th Apr 2022 8:21pm)
  • Somehow I doubt the council had a say about the merger (not to defend the council, that would be the day). by desolateisotope (Sun 17th Apr 2022 8:27pm)
  • I would assume the Competition and Markets Authority, although I'm not sure if their remit actually extends to matters this small, in the grand scheme of things, or if they would even give it a second look if it does. by desolateisotope (Sun 17th Apr 2022 10:54pm)
  • With a bit of quick googling: > The CMA has jurisdiction to review a merger where either (a) the target company generates more than £70 million of turnover in the UK (the turnover test); or (b) the merger results in the Parties having a share of supply of goods or services of any description in the UK of 25% or more (the share of supply test). In this case the first test would apply to the pre-merger turnover of the smaller company (presumably Network) and the second test refers to "the UK", rather than any local market. So, without any hard numbers to go by, my gut feeling is yes. by desolateisotope (Tue 19th Apr 2022 12:51am)
  • Flew out of Glasgow about two weeks ago, on a 6 am flight. I didn't time security, but I can tell you the queue for security was backed up all the way to boarding pass control, and they were setting up an extra queue before that to avoid a crush. So yeah, I'd say go early. by desolateisotope (Wed 4th May 2022 11:03pm)
  • Freeview play I think is basically an enhanced TV guide. You flick through the programs and then for most (but not all) of them it will give you an option to play them on catch-up. The live TV option needs an aerial, I believe. If you're okay with that though it's pretty easy to use yeah, as long as you set up your accounts on every service you care about it will play with no more hassle. That is _assuming_ the guide will load without an aerial, which it should do, but I've never tried it (might do this evening if it would help). by desolateisotope (Wed 25th May 2022 9:43am)
  • There's an important difference though in that successful European federal states are, largely, nation-states which are federated for historical/political reasons - e.g. Germany. Elsewhere, where federalism has been attempted as a solution to internal strife between different peoples/nations coexisting within the same state, it has been a far less rosy picture, e.g. Belgium. And the closest extant equivalent to a federal UK, still overwhelmingly dominated by England, would probably be Spain's quasi-federalism, which... well. by desolateisotope (Thu 26th May 2022 11:56pm)
  • I personally quite like Richard Leonard, and his entire tenure he was constantly hamstrung by the right-wing party machine every bit as much as Corbyn, and without the energised base make up for it. That said, the only two things I actually remember him doing as leader are saying he'd support England against Scotland at the footy (*a man supposedly aspiring to be First Minister*), and proclaiming the need to nationalise Scottish Water, so he really didn't help himself all that much. by desolateisotope (Fri 27th May 2022 12:14am)
  • Just tried now and I'm really sorry to say no, it doesn't even load without an aerial :/ You can still use the apps separately (iPlayer etc) but that's about it, nothing that works like a telly. by desolateisotope (Fri 27th May 2022 10:29am)
  • I lol'ed, but surely it's the other way round? by desolateisotope (Wed 15th Jun 2022 12:47am)
  • Ah, fair. I've never bought my undies at Waitrose tbf. by desolateisotope (Wed 15th Jun 2022 9:45am)
  • Keep in mind, the quality of your broadband overwhelmingly depends on who provides the physical network. Traditionally that would have been Virgin for Virgin, or Openreach for everyone else - it is now a bit more complicated if you're looking at FTTP packages, but for Shell the answer is still Openreach. Then a much smaller factor is who provides the higher-layer connectivity to the Internet - for Shell, that is TalkTalk. Past that, the difference is just who does the billing and customer service. So, at least as someone who doesn't speak to customer service all that often, I'd say if you're already on an Openreach provider and are happy, feel free to change to whoever is cheapest. If not, then it might pay to look into it some more. by desolateisotope (Sun 19th Jun 2022 7:19pm)
  • Expecting this to be controversial, but keep calm and just wait for Popeye's to open in a few months honestly. Other than that, the Chicken Place on Gallowgate is fairly decent. There's also a Chicken Cottage in the southside, but I've never tried this one and their quality in London varies *wildly* so it could go either way. by desolateisotope (Thu 6th Oct 2022 11:37am)
  • Very fair, though I've never had Jolibee elsewhere so I've just assumed that's what it's like - I may well be wrong. I have such high hopes for Popeye's though, but I do fear about how close the UK version is to the original. I've literally been thinking about a trip south to try it so I'm not even more disappointed if I wait for it to come to Glasgow and it's shite haha. by desolateisotope (Thu 6th Oct 2022 8:04pm)
  • A bit late to this, but more often than not this means there is FTTC provision (the usual ~35/~75 Mbps packages), but no current availability - technically, in Openreach terms, that means there is a waitlist, however virtually no provider actually supports the waitlist so in practice it's a matter of checking back until someone else cancels their service and a spot opens up. YMMV. BT does have their own [broadband checker](https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/), which is a bit technical but it will tell you if the waitlist applies to your address. by desolateisotope (Thu 20th Oct 2022 5:45pm)
