  • Oh fuck. We got someone to do our 2nd floor flat and we paid £50. Feel like a twat now. He did insist on climbing out the window and standing on the ledge so maybe it was danger money by hamnataing (Sat 9th May 2020 7:46pm)
  • Like what? by hamnataing (Sun 24th May 2020 9:39pm)
  • Shopping centres seem to be notorious for trying to be as American as possible. It must be part of the dream they're trying to sell us. Go visit some stores (shops), see a movie (film) and then nip to the restroom (take a shite) by hamnataing (Sat 13th Jun 2020 7:04pm)
  • Yes this I think, I didn't get the feeling he was about to ransack anything. But I've read in more than one place [that Utilita staff have just 'barged in'](https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6002273/utilita-not-sure), so maybe that's how they're trained by hamnataing (Tue 17th Nov 2020 10:38am)

  • Not excusing what he said (especially playing down the threat of COVID with misleading comparisons) BUT it must be hell to be an entrepreneur in the pub industry right now, having no idea what the future holds for you or your staff, watching the business you've built slowly crumble to fuck. So I understand his desperation by hamnataing (Wed 18th Nov 2020 7:32pm)
  • All good here thanks! Yourself? by hamnataing (Fri 20th Nov 2020 10:41pm)

  • I love the amateur photography on this sub. One of the few things on reddit that makes me feel connected to my home, especially during the pandemic by hamnataing (Mon 11th Jan 2021 6:22pm)
  • Nice one, this is a great post by hamnataing (Fri 29th Jan 2021 1:21am)
  • Had a bad experience with this lot. They charged us for a 'deep clean' that was totally unnecessary. From that experience I've learned to document the actual state of the property forensically (photos etc) before I move into a flat. by hamnataing (Thu 5th Aug 2021 12:48am)
  • Aye it's poor, but consider the fact that there is so little infrastructure and investment to develop new sitcom writing in Scotland, I think it's an achievement that they even got the show together. The mistake they made was to frame their indie production as a TV show, and invite comparisons with actual television by putting it on Prime. It needs so much development and it wasn't anywhere near ready for the amount of exposure and PR they brought it. Moral is: new writers in Scotland need more opportunities to get stuff produced, and to fail with safety (imagine reading these reddit comments after spending 4 years making this) by hamnataing (Tue 7th Sep 2021 10:04pm)

  • What instrument(s) do you play? I didn't know live music during yoga classes was a thing but it makes complete sense, live music is so much more moving and humane in a way by hamnataing (Fri 29th Oct 2021 9:55pm)
  • Btw - seeing the baffled reaction you're getting here, it might be helpful for us if you give some more information about your background and some more information about what 'live music' means in the context of yoga, it's seemingly not such a common thing in Glasgow. Most people are used to recorded music here. Glasgow has a very strong music culture and the phrase "live music" evokes images of Sauchiehall Street buskers, pub guitar bands, noisy gigs at the Barras- possibly a very different kind of live music to what you're talking about! There are many yoga studios you could reach out to in Glasgow about this, here is a list of them: https://www.whatsonglasgow.co.uk/activities/yoga/ by hamnataing (Sat 30th Oct 2021 5:18am)
  • Yes he was a gem. In fact, once after he served me, he was so friendly that I quickly looked up how to say "thank you" in BSL on my phone. On the way out I tapped him on the shoulder and did my best to do the gesture, and he was so appreciative. I loved that guy by hamnataing (Fri 4th Mar 2022 12:32am)

  • One of the worst travel experiences of my life. Sleeping in a bloody hammock bouncing off the window, wide awake at 5am, swinging around like a dick. At cardiff they chucked us off the bus and handed us a Costco blueberry muffin to eat in the rain. Bus stank of pish too by hamnataing (Tue 8th Mar 2022 1:49am)

  • Aye it's shambolic. The city deserves better, I think we've all learned to settle for the way it is. I wish more Glaswegians would visit other cities in Europe and see it doesn't have to be this way. by hamnataing (Mon 21st Mar 2022 3:29pm)

  • This is the slow creeping trend towards alienation. Get the self driving bus into town. Go to the shop and use the self service. Go to the pub and order your pint on your phone, no eye contact needed. The more we eliminate small moments of human interaction the lonelier we'll get by hamnataing (Mon 25th Apr 2022 7:46pm)
  • You're right about the parking being a ripoff, they need to sort it. But having lived in Prestwick most of my life, the last thing I want is to see the town turn into a free car park for Glaswegians going on holiday. by hamnataing (Mon 25th Apr 2022 11:52pm)

  • When I was in school my best friend's dad was a landscape gardener. He used to talk about putting big jaggy bushes in to stop the 'meanderthals' who'd cut across like this. He was a bit of a wank tho by hamnataing (Wed 27th Apr 2022 9:56pm)
  • Sorry to hear this happened to you. I visited London the other week and a random cyclist spat on me, seemingly for no reason. Never had it happen in Glasgow but I think some people are just rotten, I wouldn't take it personally. by hamnataing (Thu 28th Apr 2022 12:19am)
  • Voting green. I don't trust the SNP or Labour to actually give a fuck about changing anything. The city direly needs overhauled in so many areas (transport, sanitation, public facilities...) and I don't believe the SNP is really as left-wing as I once thought it was. by hamnataing (Mon 2nd May 2022 9:44pm)
  • Aye, you could put greens as your second choice after SNP (tho i'd prefer green myself) by hamnataing (Mon 2nd May 2022 9:53pm)

  • Would think so, but Reddit's demographic skews heavily towards [younger people](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1184024/reddit-user-demographics/) (and possibly on other factors too...) so I would be surprised if this subreddit is reflective of the general population of Glasgow by hamnataing (Tue 3rd May 2022 12:56am)

  • Yeah I don’t think I’d sit there 😂 but it would make my walk to work nicer than it is at the moment. The motorway is a scar through the city by hamnataing (Fri 24th Jun 2022 2:59pm)
  • In my view it's not the driver's fault, they're part of a broken system that fails to support the needs of its users. If the buses were really run for our benefit (rather than the benefit of shareholders) we would have * bus stops with clear, well-designed maps of the routes * integrated ticketing across rail, subway and buses (making connections possible) * drivers who are incentivised to actually help customers, rather than punished for being late The public transport in this city is a joke because its chronic dysfunction works to the benefit of the wealthy individuals who own and control it. Who wants integrated ticketing? There's more money to be had if the bus companies don't cooperate. Total racket by hamnataing (Sat 25th Jun 2022 4:40pm)
  • My point is the bad manners of the drivers just are a symptom of much bigger systemic problems. Speak to some drivers and they’ll tell you why they’re miserable by hamnataing (Sat 25th Jun 2022 7:55pm)

  • Actually the push to create as much housing as possible (in the form of high rises) was led by a left-wing campaigner called [David Gibson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Gibson_(British_politician) in the 1950s, he fought hard to create better housing for workers in Glasgow. People were desperate to leave the slums and get houses with indoor toilets, and by all accounts the quality of the housing was amazing in the beginning. Unfortunately, the incentives given to the building companies in the 50s meant these blocks were built too densely and the communities lacked things to do like cinemas, shops etc. The result was a lot of the social problems of the slums were migrated into the new housing and nothing was improved by hamnataing (Sun 15th Jan 2023 12:34am)

  • What feedback did you get from them? Don't be disheartened, there is a way to do this right and to get the money. Make sure the budget adds up and that everyone is being paid properly. Make sure you add a contingency to your budget (5-6% for theatre) if things might go wrong. Very important - make sure everyone is being paid industry rates (ideally slightly above industry standard rates, to account for inflation/cost of living.) They hate it when you undercut yourself and try to do things on the cheap, they see it as a big risk. Think about all your environmental impact risks and explain how you're addressing them. Also, they want to see that you're creating good opportunities for employment and development in the sector - how are people (audiences and employees) benefiting from your project? Without seeing your application its hard to say more, but feel free to PM me if you want to brainstorm it together by hamnataing (Tue 25th Apr 2023 11:00pm)
  • Bollocks. The difference is rich guys can pay grant writers to write perfect applications for them... if you're a normal person it's absolutely possible to get arts funding, but you need to learn how to raise money for yourself (and the language to use), so most people just give up. by hamnataing (Tue 25th Apr 2023 11:30pm)
